Mexican Illegal Immigration
Illegal Immigration in the USA. Historically, agriculture has been the most important sector of Mexico
s economy, since plants and grains were first domesticated to today s modern world. Today, Mexico s
main agricultural products like corn, fruits and vegetables that make up about 80% of agricultural
production, which in many states is the only source of income that people have to survive day to day.
Unfortunately, this livelihood has become threatened by the American subsides that create unfair
competition with local Mexican farmers and small business, by offering to the Mexican market a vast
supply of agricultural products along with low prices that take away jobs from millions of farmers.
These unfortunate circumstances are damaging consequences ... Show more content on

Most Americans are not aware, or have not been exposed to the fact that part of their taxes are given to
companies that take away the sources of income of the Mexican people who already live in poverty.
Moreover, the encouragement of corn subsidies have created a greater demand from American
growers, who are only getting wealthier from the tens of billions of dollars that the government pays
them. Since 1995, $84 billion have been paid to agricultural subsidies, and currently the Farm Bill
spending estimates that the total government aid to farmers will reach up to $23.9 billion in 2017
(Charles 2016). Most importantly, Americans should be more concern about the health issues and the
environmental harm that comes with the overproduction of crops; which are mostly used for unhealthy
foods like sweeteners and additives that can contribute to

Resilience In The Workplace
The resiliency quiz and article suggest that resiliency is innate to most people. No matter the
challenges, we all have the capacity for resiliency building. As Social Workers we will encounter
individuals who may need assistance in recognizing, building and maintaining resilience. this
powerful self assessment tool does an effective job of highlighting areas of resilience and resiliency
builders.
Reflection of Resiliency
Cultural structures, values can positively or negatively impact an individual s resilience. Research
supports that culture, ethnicity, and environment are major factors in the manifestation of resilience in
individuals and communities of color (Chang, Scott, Decker, 2009, p. 26).As practitioners we must

The organization I work for is experiencing a tremendous and stressful transformation. It requires that
we utilize some of the resiliency builders including perceptiveness, being aware of exactly what is
happening, maintaining a sense of humor ( a recent physical move of an entire organization into
another work site has us labeling water fountains BHSI only and CBH only ...really?).
One of the strengths of this organization is also one of its weaknesses. We have a set criteria for those
that want to access our services, however during the recent economic crash we relaxed our rules as we
were perceptive enough to realize that if we didn t there would be a whole community of individuals
that we would not serve. Encouraging flexibility in the workplace can be challenging as individuals
must be able to discern.
Resilience is the cornerstone of the Strength Based perspective. This tool can be used to re enforce
resiliency in the individuals we serve and is a excellent self assessment tool. I manage a group of para
professionals who provide telephonic support to individuals in recovery. I will share the assessment
tool with the group as a baseline tool for resiliency. This quiz can provide conversation that
encourages openness and enlightenment. I believe it will be immensely helpful. Times are tough, high
unemployment, decreased resources within our communities; international unrest are just some of the
stressors that challenge our resiliency. Positive reinforcement is not only welcome, it is necessary

The Bicycles Changed America Essay
The Bicycles Changed America
The great changes in American society that came with the introduction bicycle in the late 19th century
are often overshadowed by the influence of the automobile in the following decades. Today, bicycles
are often seen as an alternative mode of transportation a cleaner and more environmentally conscious
form of travel. Because of this, it may be difficult to realize the incredible modernizing effects that
bicycles had on American society when they were first introduced. Manufacturing and marketing
techniques introduced by the bicycle industry were massive steps towards modern industrial practices.
In addition, by making individual travel available to many people for the first time, bicycles changed

Drais de Savebrun was aware, however, of some of the important aspects of the draisine that hinted at
the future possibilities of bicycles: when roads are dry and firm it runs on a plain at the rate of 8 to 9
miles an hour which is equal to a horse s gallop...[and] on descent it equals a horse at full speed.
(Smith, 1972, pp 4)
The next major development came with the acquisition of pedals. In 1855, the first bicycle with
pedals, the velocipede, was invented and became briefly popular when it was brought to the United
States. Because of the ride provided by its iron tires and wooden frame, the velocipede became known
as the Boneshaker. The excitement around the velocipede died off within a few years, however, as it
proved to be difficult to ride, expensive, and dangerous.
During the second half of the 19th century, most of the major improvements were made that allowed
for the invention of modern bicycles. An iron frame rather than a wooden one, rubber tires (solid
rubber, however), rubber coated pedals and steel rims were all developed during this time. Although
the new bicycles, known as Ordinaries, had one wheel much larger than the other, were difficult to
mount and dismount, had no brakes, and were expensive, they became much more popular than any of
the previous ancestral bicycles. They were promoted on the basis that they provided exercise to the
riders, and that they had

The Battle Of The Se Sherman s Total War Strategy
The March to the Sea: Sherman s Total War Strategy to Save the Union Depending on geography,
William T Sherman has gone down in the annuals of history as either one of the most hated or most
respected generals of the Civil War. Through his March to the Sea, he became the first general in the
nineteenth century to use total war against an opponent. He knew civilian anger was inescapable in
wars and decided to not only use the outrage for the best military outcome, but also for the
psychological and emotional effect. Therefore, the March to the Sea not only left behind in its wake a
demoralized and defeated people, but also introduced a new war strategy, which would save the
nation. After his assignment to the southern states as a young military officer Sherman s exposure to
the secessionist movement helped him to understand the Southerner s will to fight against the North.
This assignment also provided Sherman with the complete knowledge of major Southern strongholds.
Sherman even warned President Lincoln not to underestimate the will of the South and to his
disappointment; Sherman felt the administration failed to take the threat Southern secession seriously
and did not make the proper preparations to deal with it. When devising his plan for The March to the
Sea, Sherman knew that he not only must capture military targets, but also hurt the South
psychologically as to break the will of the Southern people. Sherman s plan involved less combat and

Change In Macbeth
Macbeth undergoes a complete change from a strong, independent, reliable leader to a devilious,
psychotic, dependent lad. A man that wasn t phased by nothing, a brick wall, to a curious, weary,
pansy, that needs reassurance. As you read you notice Macbeth s confidence is great until his
encounter with the witches and his wife s findings of his soon to be position in which she forces it to
be quickened. What he hath lost, noble Macbeth hath won (Act 1 Sc.2 Pg.13) says the king. As he

seen in early scenes in act 1 this general is far from a coward. In fact rather complete opposite due to
his peers thinking of him as double killing the dead. This hits him rather hard and his wife knows this,
which in turns makes his actions fall less about what he wants and more toward acceptance. He lets

Metaphors And Symbolism In Death Of A Salesman
ABSTRACT
Miller has been one of the most outspoken American writers of the last four decades. He has held
generally progressive and radical views and has variously written against racism, capitalism and
Vietnam war. All these ideas are amply reflected in his plays. Death of a Salesman was Miller s play
and an instant success. It was hailed as a modern classic and has put Miller among the foremost
playwrights of this century. Death of a Salesman Miller is still concerned with the exploitations of the
individual and the evils of a commercial society. The protagonist Willy Loman ,was a traveling
salesman, and his family were the main characters in this play. The usage of Language, verbalism,
Symbolism were extraordinary and unique from other styles of Drama.

He has ambition and expectations beyond his reach. This aspect is revealed by a contradiction in his
name low man and his dream of high man . In his own vision and dreams, his sons to him are only
boys , kids , little children with nollypops needing his advice and care. He fails to regard them as
grown up adults. Death of a Salesman, on a close examination, will be found a play with logical and
linguistic contradictions. But such contradictions are deliberate and are used to sharpen the effect.
Willy Loman suggests his moral immaturity through logical as well as linguistic contradictions,
especially when offering advice to Biff. He warns his sons: gee is a boy s word , and he uses this term
frequently. He complains: not finding yourself at the age of thirth four is a disgrace! , and greatest
thing in the world for him was to bum around, and that Biff is a lazy bum. And after some he

The Innocence of the Devil by Nawal El Saadawi
In this novel, the reader (including myself) should have sympathy for Ganat and Narguiss. I felt
horrible for both of these characters in the novel. Ganat was the proud and defiant woman who was
physically attractive. Narguiss was the head nurse in the asylum who was Ganat s best friend. I had
sympathy for Ganat and Narguiss because of what they had to go through in the novel. Ganat was
accused for being born with her eyes wide open, not wearing a veil and supporting Satan. The judge
that tried her was an oppressive man and sent her to an asylum for treatment. I thought it was injustice
that Ganat had no say in what was accused of her. Having wide open eyes when born was in no way
Ganat s fault yet she was punished for it, simply unbelievable! I understand that in the Islamic culture,
a women needs to keep their head down but what does a new born infant know about culture/religion?
I can actually relate to Ganat s predicament she had about being born with her eyes wide open. My
family friend gave birth to a baby girl who was had a darker skin tone than anyone else in the family
and the father hated baby girl because of it. He said Indian girls are fair not dark skinned. He ended up
beating his wife for giving birth to a
dark skinned baby and kicked her and the baby out of the house. I don t see why it was the mother s or
even the baby s fault that she was a darker shade when the father himself was dark. This goes to show
how culture can really impact someone and

Police Brutality in Anywhere, USA Essay
After our marching band s performance at a football game was cancelled because of lightning, about
six or seven of the band members (including a few student leaders) sat around shooting the breeze, not
fighting, not smoking, not drinking, not being loud. An unmarked police car rolled up and our
conversation stopped as we turned our attention to him.
In an acrid and condescending tone, the policeman pointed a finger to the exit of the parking lot and
said, Out.
Okay, just give us a moment to figure out what we can do, we replied. We wondered if Friendly s was

My friend and I, both student leaders, got out of the car to address the situation.
The officer, frantic and quite enraged at his own idiocy, pointed a menacing finger at me, Let me see
your ID.
Why do want to see my ID? I asked, because I was the passenger.
Let me see your ID! he demanded. I asked why again, reminding him that it was a legitimate question.
Getting the same non answer, I started to hand him my license. He all but ripped it from my hand.
And may I have your name? I asked. He is Detective X.
A fine representation of the Marching Knights you are! he yelled. I must have missed the meeting that
decided nothing cordial will be said by, and no questions will be asked of, an officer of the law. Even
though my parents pay him his salary, he is above acting like a decent human being. His last name
sounded familiar. I should have known better than to ask if I knew his son. The officer s eyes widened
and he yelled, You leave my family out of this! I guess that was his way of saying yes.
As three more police cars showed up, Officer X instructed everyone to go home except for me and my
friend. He said he knew everyone had junior licenses and would be out past curfew, when actually the
only one who did was rear ended by a cop, which caused him to stay out way past curfew (nice irony).
Officer X also suggested, very rudely, that a

Vladimir would have loved to receive his price right there so that he could flee from this place that

The next morning, two teenage girls came to play in the park. They had typical signs of late puberty.

Warm up is necessary before any game. They started jogging around the park as they usually do.

Examples Of Civilization In Huckleberry Finn
Civilization. A word we use to define the proper and advanced ways of which we work and act as
human beings. A word of which Huck Finn finds too confusing and can live and do without. He
believes that civilization is too restrictive and, instead, wants to live a free and joyful life as an
individualist. To Huck, civilization means the end of his freedom. In the novel, The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn, Huck rejects civilization because he does not want to be told what is right or

Life has a funny way of showing you what it is, you are looking for. We re always searching for
something. Whether it be meaning, love, career paths, family, we all want that something that makes

troubled with deciding if I wanted to pursue business or psychology. I spent years climbing the
business ladder to achieve highly reputable internships. The glamour spoke to me, people were
fashionable and well mannered all around. Something about celebrity culture excited me and I could

We Real Cool: Poetry Explication
We Real Cool is a poem written by Gwendolyn Brooks in 1959, and published in her book The Bean
Eaters (We Real Cool, pg 1). A simple and light poem, We Real Cool is vague enough to allow readers
to visualize their own characters and setting, but specific enough to keep a consistent rebellious image.
Brook s attitude toward the characters is undecided, as the tone is neither tragic nor victorious, but
more so just balanced and neutral.
We Real Cool is written from the perspective of the involved fictional characters. It is as if the reader
is in the presence of these characters as they introduce themselves. They speak with confidence and ...

The second half of this stanza is, We left school. This is an obvious statement of action, but leaves the
reader questioning whether they left a not yet dismissed school day or a school day that had come to
an end. As a third option, the reader might also assume they left school for good.
The couplets continue in the next stanza with, We lurk late. With this line we can assume the verb lurk
is meant to represent a much less gracious movement, an almost monstrous, but comical way of
walking. In the poem s consistent three word lines, the word late is included to end the sentence. This
gives the reader an idea of when the poem can possibly take place within the time of day. Although it
may not be a literal statement regarding the time of day, as it can also translate to a rebellious activity
the characters wish to point out. The second sentence within this stanza is, We strike straight. This line
can also have multiple meanings depending on the usage and perspective of the words strike and
straight. Two possible literal translations can be deal with fighting, as strike means hit or punch, while
another meaning of strike is how one lights a cigarette.
The fourth stanza begins with, We sing sin, a line that can also have multiple meanings. If taken from
a paradox angle, the gentleness and innocence of singing contradicts with the literal meaning of sin.
This method of verbal irony is what keeps the tone consistently light throughout

Ancient Civilizations Of Mesopotamia And Mesopotamia
Sumerian (3500 2300BC) Babylonian (1792 1750 BC) both belong to civilizations of Mesopotamia,
but they existed different period. The ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia are the source of the
earliest surviving art; these civilizations were situated between the Tigris and the Euphrates Rivers.
Dating back to 3500 B.C.E., Mesopotamian art was intended to serve as a way to glorify powerful
rulers and their connection to divinity. Art was made from natural resources such as stone, shells,
alabaster and marble, and was often created as didactic pieces. No artist signatures can be found on
most of the work, because the pieces were meant to embody the subject matter, rather than the creator.
Popular items that typify this time period include cylindrical seals, steles, narrative relief sculptures,
and lavishly decorated tombs. More than 4,000 years ago the valleys of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers
began to teem with life first the Sumerian, then the Babylonian, Assyrian, Chaldean, and Persian
empires. Here too excavations have unearthed evidence of great skill and artistry. Examples of fine
works in marble, diorite, hammered gold, and lapis lazuliahve been found. Stone, wood, and metal
was imported. Sumerian art and architecture was ornate and complex primarily used for religious
purposes painting and sculpture the main median used. Of the many portraits produced in this area,

The Problem Of World Hunger
Growing up, the commercials of starving children in Africa in need of food because of rampant
starvation and the pervasive threat of death have been streaming on various media. World Hunger is
one of the main problems that a large portion of the global population faces today. Hunger varies with
severity but in this case it is the want of food in a third world country. World hunger is a problem that
has existed for much of our known history; it has faded away from central concerns because it is
barely brought up in everyday conversations. World hunger has many aggravating factors and
principal causes, such as insufficient economic systems, misinformation, climate changes, etc. But the
main debilitating factor is poverty as poverty always has led to people going without regular meals
because they cannot afford to eat. There are vast quantities of people in third world nations and
developing countries that are so impoverished that are in desperate need for food. Whether a country
is rich or poor, there are always tremendous numbers of people dealing with poverty and hunger.
Perhaps most disheartening is the cruel reality that most of the victims are young children. Hunger is a
very serious issue that cannot easily be remedied.
As a matter of fact, people all over the world mainly concentrated in developing countries die because
of hunger and starvation on a daily basis. With the growth of population, the number of hungry people
also increases at a disproportionate rate.

The Importance Of Serving As A Naval Officer
One of the most interesting and, at times, challenging aspects of serving as a Naval Officer is working
with a team of people from a diverse background. The sailors I have worked with come from all over
the United States, and even some from other countries. While this has led to a rich experience, it
sometimes presented a leadership challenge. What I found out quickly was that every sailor
approached his or her service in the Navy slightly different. Some sailors served because a relative
did, some to pay for college, and some joined to see the world. The more I spoke with sailors, the
more I understood the importance for me, as a leader, to not only know the people I was leading, but
also to try to understand their perspective. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He drew on his own experiences, both inside and outside the Navy. Much of what he believed was
based on his wife s experience as a high school teacher. As much as I tried to convince him, it was to
no avail, because he had a set of beliefs about discipline that guided every decision he made.
What I understand know, after reading Thomas Kuhn s The Structure of Scientific Revolutions (1996)
was that his paradigm about discipline was different from mine. In fact, our paradigms were what
Kuhn (1996) describes as incommensurable. The idea of incommensurability accounts for the
different way that my commander and I viewed the world (Kuhn, 1996). Our paradigms about
discipline were so different that we could not even really have a conversation about it without one of
us getting angry or frustrated. At the time I did not understand this concept, and it left me confused
about how he could approach a situation in a way that I viewed as harsh and unfair. Eventually, we
were able to understand each other, and move forward, and eventually work together to find the best
solution to future problems. We came to an understanding that we felt differently sometimes, but
began to try to view the situation from each other s point of view. Had I possessed the knowledge that
I do now about Kuhn s ideas, I would have immediately understood the problem, and been able to
articulate my views to him and help us both understand that

Cracking Our Dna Barcode Analysis
Comparison and Contrast of Cracking Our Genetic Barcode
In the essay, DNA fingerprinting: Cracking Our Genetic Barcode , by Elaine Marieb, illustrates how
significant DNA fingerprinting is today. She initiates a candid example of how New York City s World
Trade Center massacre killed more than 3, 000, left millions of bodies distorted, charred, and decayed.
It was the staple for the ever increasing need for DNA fingerprinting.
In current events, DNA fingerprinting is a vital instrument soldiers who are unidentifiable after war.
Marieb wrote (435), The U.S military takes blood and saliva samples from every recruit so it can
identify soldiers killed in the line of duty. In contrast, in the past, there were rudimentary ways to

Marieb stated (435), DNA fingerprinting can prove that a suspect was actually at the scene of a crime
and establishes innocence. Before the evolution of DNA fingerprinting, persecuting attorney and our
judicial system depended on many aspects of reliable sources to convict a criminal. They depended on
the eyewitnesses who were likely to recant on their statements, tampered evidence, and bias jurors.
Presently, DNA fingerprinting have aided in exonerating hundreds of cases including Ray Krone, also
known as The Snaggle Tooth Killer. He was exculpated by DNA evidence after he served 10 years and
was facing the death penalty for a crime he didn t commit. He was wrongly convicted of murder and
the circumstantial evidence at the time was the bite marks they found on the victim s body resembled
his teeth. DNA revealed Kenneth Phillips was the culprit. He was the 100th inmate vindicated through
DNA from death row since 1976. Even though, this is a fascinating process. It is not a perfect system.
Similarly, fingerprints were used in the past, yet the current progression speaks for

Book Review Of Anne Rice s Interview With The Vampire
The first vampire book I have ever read was Interview with the Vampire, which peaked my love for
vampire literature. This novel is a part of a series of Vampire Chronicles written by the author Anne
Rice. Rice was born on October 4, 1941 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her real name is Howard Allen
Frances O Brien; named after her father. When she was in first grade her name was changed to Anne.
She was raised in a conservative Catholic home and attended a parochial school as a young girl. In
1958 her family moved to Richardson, Texas where she would gradate high school. According to
Biography.com, Rice studied briefly at Texas Women s University and North Texas State College.
After marrying Stan Rice, she eventually moved to California, where she earned her degree at San
Francisco State College. (Biography.com 2014).
Before her successful career as a writer of vampire novels and erotica she tried her hand at several
different jobs. She was a cook, a waitress and an insurance examiner before she began her true calling.
Her inspiration for her first novel Interview with a Vampire was inspired by the death of her daughter
Michele, who at the tender age of five died of leukemia. The character Claudia in the story is based on
her dead child, as an outlet for her pain and probably as a way to keep her alive forever. After her first
novel Interview with the Vampire was published in 1976 she gained a vast following of readers who
shared a love for the supernatural.
Her novel was such a hit that in 1994 it was turned into a movie starring Brad Pitt as the vampire
Louis and Tom Cruise at the vampire Lestat. The movie would be called Interview with a Vampire,
instead of Interview with the Vampire. Luckily I was able to read the book before I was even remotely
interested in watching the movie. I was completely drawn to Anne Rice after reading her novel back in
2000 when I was in high school. She changed my view of what I think vampires should be; turning
them from a hideous, blood sucking monster to a beautiful and mysterious person full or raw human
emotion.
Let s take a look at the book that made vampires my favorite fictional characters. The novel Interview
with the Vampire centers around a 200 year old vampire named

The Tragedy Of Romeo Is To Blame In Romeo And Juliet
Young love is a subject that many authors write about and many people enjoy reading about. In these
stories it s great when everything works out for the young couple, but sometimes it doesn t work out
and there s always someone at fault. In William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is to blame
for both himself and Juliet dying at the end of the play. It is Romeo s fault because he rushed into
decisions, kept secrets from those that could help him, and there ultimately could have been a better
solution. Romeo rushed into decisions and didn t think about his choices. Early in the play, Romeo
says I ll go along, no such sight to be shown, But to rejoice in splendor of mine own. (Romeo and
Juliet Act I Scene II) agreeing to go to the Capulet s party with his friends only to see Rosaline, the
girl he was in love with, and whom he had talked so much about, but who didn t return his love,
devastating him, which shows how devoted he was to her and her alone. However later in the evening
at the party he says Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! For I ne er saw true beauty till this
night. (Romeo and Juliet Act I Scene V) upon seeing Juliet. He very easily forgets about the girl that
he showed such devotion and love for only hours earlier, upon seeing a more beautiful girl. Romeo
was very dedicated to his love until a better option came along, showing how he was very impulsive
and inclined to act on feelings rather than judgement. Another example of how he made a hasty
decision was when he says, I ll tell thee as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Note On The New Baltic Bank
Considering that this is the first time the New Baltic Bank enters to a syndicated loan, I will point out
the important key clauses that you should be looking for in a loan agreement. The loan agreement is
the document set out by the Lender, which is in this case, is the bank to provide the terms and
conditions of the loan that will be given to the borrower. The structure of the agreement must have a
few components such as representations, warranties, covenants and duties.
The Loan Market Association along with major city law firms and the Association of corporate

degree of protection and the ability to refuse to complete obligation if the borrower suffers change in
circumstances that would affect his ability to continue his obligations with the lender. For Material
Adverse changes can function as an event of default or potential event of default. The Material
Adverse changes can either stops the drawing down of the loan or a basis for ending the lenders
obligations, and it can also accelerate the loan and the lender could demand the borrower for an early

Representations and warranties focus on the borrower s ability legally to enter into a financial
agreement. In case of breach in the representations and warranties, the lender will consider it an event
of default and the lender could demand repayment of the loan. If they were widely drafted, they could
trigger material adverse effects that is why the borrower seeks to restrict them.
Default or potential default clauses deals with the case of the borrower not being able to continue his
obligations towards the lender or potentially not being able to continue his obligation. Under this
clause it will be determined if the lender could stop

The Man Nobody Knows Essay
The Man Nobody Knows
The author of this book Bruce Barton was a partner in a successful advertising firm during the 1920 s.
This was a time when the industry of advertising was under going some major changes. These changes
had a lot to do with a number of factors the first of which being the post war prosperity this meant
people had more money than they ever had before. Another one of these factors had to do with the
high number of teens who were now attending high school, this proved to be important because it
created a whole other market which hadn t existed before. One more factor was the advances made in
transportation and communication, these advances allowed goods, people, and information to travel ...

Barton goes on to describe how the teacher had repeatedly stressed the need for him to love God and
Jesus, and how the boy had grown to be fear God. He also told us how the boy pictured Jesus as the
Lamb of God , which reminded him of Mary had a little lamb. This association between Jesus and a
children s song had made the boy think of Jesus as meek, and lowly and as a man of sorrows and
acquainted with grief (Barton prologue). Later in Barton s story the man grows up and becomes a
business man, and again finds him self confronted by Jesus, only now he is old enough to read it for
himself and this time he doesn t see Jesus as a weakling at all. Now he sees him as a successful
carpenter who is both mentally and physically strong as well as a great leader. He also realizes the
great feat Jesus has accomplished as well as the methods he used to accomplish this feat. Methods
Barton felt every business man should know about. Barton concludes this explanation by telling us
how he waited for someone to write a book relating Jesus work to modern day business, and how
when no one did he decided to write it himself. And with that he set out to write what he called the
story of the founder of modern business Jesus Christ.
At first glance Barton use of a parable seemed un important but as I read on I realized his intent in

Good Order And Accountability
The importance of Good order and discipline and personnel accountability. Having good order and
discipline is important in any aspect of the United States Army, because it shows you hold the
standards of the unit you are assigned to at great heights. Good order and discipline in my opinion is a
responsibility of the individual soldier and it shows that the soldier takes responsibility upon himself
without having to be told or shown. It shows that the soldier has the mindset that is most beneficial to
the overall readiness and ability of the unit to accomplish its mission. Good order portrays that the

Essay on Basketball Needs To Be Fixed
Basketball Needs to Be Fixed
Professional and college basketball have become very popular in the hearts and minds of many
Americans. Millions of dollars a year are spent on apparel, tickets, and television all generated by
people s love for basketball.
But in the last couple of years, both the National Basketball Association (NBA) and college basketball
have lost a substantial amount of their competition and have caught much criticizim for it. At the heart
of this problem is a single cause, greed. The game of basketball has become all about money instead
of the game and its fans. This problem needs to be addressed, and the best place to start is with the
college players, or more specifically, the NBA draft. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
College basketball markets their teams after their best players, when those players decide to go pro
early, the promotion of college basketball is hurt; along with the overall talent level of the league is
lowered drastically. Games become less interesting because the players are not as talented. This in turn
hurts the television networks because people do not like watching games in which they do not know
who the players are.
And then, that in turn hurts the league and the schools again because the networks will not pay as
much to televise the games as they once did.
The schools and the league are not the only ones hurt, by leaving school early hoping to make the big
bucks the players hurt themselves. In the world that we live in today, if you do not have a college
degree, opportunities are limited. Look at the statistics, 60 players are drafted each year, and there are
only 360 roster spots in the entire NBA. The chances that each player drafted will make the team is
almost an impossibility. Some people go back to school and try to finish their degrees, but most do not
because once you give up your eligibility, you cannot get it back, with means most of them cannot
afford to go back to school. This leaves a lot of people out of work and with no degree. By keeping the
college players in school, most will achieve

The Secession Of The Civil War
Secession Paper Assignment After Abraham Lincoln was elected president in 1860, politicians in the
southern states wished to secede from the northern states. President Lincoln opposed slavery and
hoped to get rid of this act in any state that practiced it. The southern states viewed Lincoln s vision as
a threat to those states who supported slavery and they believed that having an anti slavery president
would endanger the states in many ways. For this reason, South Carolina became the first to secede six
weeks after Lincoln became president and later on more states to follow the secession (lecture). The
states who seceded became known as the Confederate states and the conflict resulted in the civil war
which lasted from 1861 to 1865 (lecture). The secession all falls back to the disagreement between the
North and the South s different views on slavery based on three different factors which were
geographic positioning, economic power and man power. Not all southern states seceded from the
Union. The wave of secession varied between the Upper South, Middle South and Deep South states.
The geographic positioning was an important factor that determined how much influence slavery had
on the states. The Deep South states, which included South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama,
Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas, were the states who were the most dependent on slavery. The
reason for this is because the soil in this region was the best for growing crops. Most wealthy white

them. They were and are still my heros. That is why my goal in life is to become a general surgeon. I
want to be able to save many lives, since it is possible now to do so. It will take a lot of effort and time

people, I want to be able have the same satisfaction those doctors and surgeons from my toddler years
had after helping me. 2 Responsibilities of this job occupation includes providing medical attention,
offering emotional support, and helping patients with other ailments. Surgeons provide medical
attention by operating on their patient and fixing the root of the problem. Trust between the surgeon
and patient is a necessity on both ends. All surgeons need to provide emotional support to reassure

Michelangelo s work in the Sistine Chapel is one of the greatest pieces of fresco work in the Italian
Renaissance. Every year millions of people travel to the Vatican to see this impressive work . Not only
is the Sistine Chapel an attraction for art lovers, but for Christians the Sistine Chapel is considered one
of the holiest chapels in our world today . However, the Sistine Chapel like any other works of art was
designed to send a message to its viewers. Like most art commissioned by the Catholic Church, the

Although his actions were not beneficial to everyone, Pope Sixtus spent a vast amount of money
rebuilding the Vatican. He rebuilt bridges, streets, churches, and he founded the Vatican library. One of
his projects included the expansion of the Palatine Chapel which would be later referred to as the
Sistine Chapel. Pope Sixtus commissioned Florentine architect Bartelomeo Baccio Pontelli to rebuild
the chapel. Pontelli was known for his ability to reconstruct and fortify building structures, which was
pivotal to rebuilding of the dilapidated Palatine Chapel. The building plans for the chapel required it to
be built on a larger scale than most chapels during that time period, and to have fortress on the top
level of the chapel to serve as security for the Vatican. The actual layout of the chapel was a copy of
the Jewish Holy Temple. It is still a mystery how that occurred, but many researchers speculate that
Pope Sixtus requested that the temple build a church similar to the Jewish Holy Temple. The reasoning
behind the layout of the temple has to do with a religious doctrine known as successionism, which is
the belief that one religion can take the place of another. Researchers believe that Pope Sixtus
designed the temple to illustrate to the world that the Catholic Church was the true church and that
Judaism was not. Having a new Holy Temple meant that Rome was now the New Jerusalem, and the
capital of the Christian world. Pope Sixtus arranged

Evil In Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde
Questioned for years has been the idea that man is born evil.. It has also been brought up in
discussions about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Was Hyde evil because of the potion or was his other
persona, Jekyll, evil from birth and that came out through Hyde? This argument will never go away,
but the answer is out there. Evil strengthens over time but it is within everyone as soon as they take
their first breath of life. The Bible says that even from birth the wicked go astray; from the womb they
are wayward, spreading lies (New International Version, Psalm 58.3). The writer of this Psalm is
saying that people stray away from what is right as soon as they are born. That is a hard concept for
many to understand. How can an innocent child be evil right as they are born? When Eve ate the
forbidden fruit that God said not to eat, she committed the first sin. Every person to be born is now
cursed with sin because of Eve and Adam. Eve was not alone when she ate the forbidden fruit. Satan
was there and he had tempted her by questioning God. Billy Graham ... Show more content on

within man at birth. In this case Jekyll s potion is like the abusive parent or harsh videogame of today.

History of British Literature
Late Medieval Period 14th Century British Literature
14th and 15th were period of transition from feudalism to pre industrial era. A time of political, social

England was in war with France (the hundred year war 1337 1453 Edward s claim to the French

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, by the same anonymous author, is also of high literary
sophistication, and its intelligence, vividness, and symbolic interest render it possibly the finest

The Canterbury Tales are stories told each other by pilgrims–who comprise a very colorful cross

Overshadowed by Chaucer but of some note are the works of John Gower.
The Fifteenth Century:
The 15th cent. is not distinguished in English letters, due in part to the social dislocation caused by the

  • 2. Mexican Illegal Immigration Illegal Immigration in the USA. Historically, agriculture has been the most important sector of Mexico s economy, since plants and grains were first domesticated to today s modern world. Today, Mexico s main agricultural products like corn, fruits and vegetables that make up about 80% of agricultural production, which in many states is the only source of income that people have to survive day to day. Unfortunately, this livelihood has become threatened by the American subsides that create unfair competition with local Mexican farmers and small business, by offering to the Mexican market a vast supply of agricultural products along with low prices that take away jobs from millions of farmers. These unfortunate circumstances are damaging consequences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most Americans are not aware, or have not been exposed to the fact that part of their taxes are given to companies that take away the sources of income of the Mexican people who already live in poverty. Moreover, the encouragement of corn subsidies have created a greater demand from American growers, who are only getting wealthier from the tens of billions of dollars that the government pays them. Since 1995, $84 billion have been paid to agricultural subsidies, and currently the Farm Bill spending estimates that the total government aid to farmers will reach up to $23.9 billion in 2017 (Charles 2016). Most importantly, Americans should be more concern about the health issues and the environmental harm that comes with the overproduction of crops; which are mostly used for unhealthy foods like sweeteners and additives that can contribute to ... • 3. Resilience In The Workplace The resiliency quiz and article suggest that resiliency is innate to most people. No matter the challenges, we all have the capacity for resiliency building. As Social Workers we will encounter individuals who may need assistance in recognizing, building and maintaining resilience. this powerful self assessment tool does an effective job of highlighting areas of resilience and resiliency builders. Reflection of Resiliency Cultural structures, values can positively or negatively impact an individual s resilience. Research supports that culture, ethnicity, and environment are major factors in the manifestation of resilience in individuals and communities of color (Chang, Scott, Decker, 2009, p. 26).As practitioners we must always be aware ... It requires that we utilize some of the resiliency builders including perceptiveness, being aware of exactly what is happening, maintaining a sense of humor ( a recent physical move of an entire organization into another work site has us labeling water fountains BHSI only and CBH only ...really?). One of the strengths of this organization is also one of its weaknesses. We have a set criteria for those that want to access our services, however during the recent economic crash we relaxed our rules as we were perceptive enough to realize that if we didn t there would be a whole community of individuals that we would not serve. Encouraging flexibility in the workplace can be challenging as individuals must be able to discern. Resilience is the cornerstone of the Strength Based perspective. This tool can be used to re enforce resiliency in the individuals we serve and is a excellent self assessment tool. I manage a group of para professionals who provide telephonic support to individuals in recovery. I will share the assessment tool with the group as a baseline tool for resiliency. This quiz can provide conversation that encourages openness and enlightenment. I believe it will be immensely helpful. Times are tough, high unemployment, decreased resources within our communities; international unrest are just some of the stressors that challenge our resiliency. The Bicycles Changed America Essay The Bicycles Changed America The great changes in American society that came with the introduction bicycle in the late 19th century are often overshadowed by the influence of the automobile in the following decades. Today, bicycles are often seen as an alternative mode of transportation a cleaner and more environmentally conscious form of travel. Because of this, it may be difficult to realize the incredible modernizing effects that bicycles had on American society when they were first introduced. Manufacturing and marketing techniques introduced by the bicycle industry were massive steps towards modern industrial practices. In addition, by making individual travel available to many people for the first time, bicycles changed the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Drais de Savebrun was aware, however, of some of the important aspects of the draisine that hinted at the future possibilities of bicycles: when roads are dry and firm it runs on a plain at the rate of 8 to 9 miles an hour which is equal to a horse s gallop...[and] on descent it equals a horse at full speed. (Smith, 1972, pp 4) The next major development came with the acquisition of pedals. In 1855, the first bicycle with pedals, the velocipede, was invented and became briefly popular when it was brought to the United States. Because of the ride provided by its iron tires and wooden frame, the velocipede became known as the Boneshaker. The excitement around the velocipede died off within a few years, however, as it proved to be difficult to ride, expensive, and dangerous. During the second half of the 19th century, most of the major improvements were made that allowed for the invention of modern bicycles. An iron frame rather than a wooden one, rubber tires (solid rubber, however), rubber coated pedals and steel rims were all developed during this time. Although the new bicycles, known as Ordinaries, had one wheel much larger than the other, were difficult to mount and dismount, had no brakes, and were expensive, they became much more popular than any of the previous ancestral bicycles. They were promoted on the basis that they provided exercise to the riders, and that they had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Battle Of The Se Sherman s Total War Strategy The March to the Sea: Sherman s Total War Strategy to Save the Union Depending on geography, William T Sherman has gone down in the annuals of history as either one of the most hated or most respected generals of the Civil War. Through his March to the Sea, he became the first general in the nineteenth century to use total war against an opponent. He knew civilian anger was inescapable in wars and decided to not only use the outrage for the best military outcome, but also for the psychological and emotional effect. Therefore, the March to the Sea not only left behind in its wake a demoralized and defeated people, but also introduced a new war strategy, which would save the nation. After his assignment to the southern states as a young military officer Sherman s exposure to the secessionist movement helped him to understand the Southerner s will to fight against the North. This assignment also provided Sherman with the complete knowledge of major Southern strongholds. Sherman even warned President Lincoln not to underestimate the will of the South and to his disappointment; Sherman felt the administration failed to take the threat Southern secession seriously and did not make the proper preparations to deal with it. When devising his plan for The March to the Sea, Sherman knew that he not only must capture military targets, but also hurt the South psychologically as to break the will of the Southern people. Sherman s plan involved less combat and concentrated more on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Death of a Salesman, on a close examination, will be found a play with logical and linguistic contradictions. But such contradictions are deliberate and are used to sharpen the effect. Willy Loman suggests his moral immaturity through logical as well as linguistic contradictions, especially when offering advice to Biff. He warns his sons: gee is a boy s word , and he uses this term frequently. He complains: not finding yourself at the age of thirth four is a disgrace! , and greatest thing in the world for him was to bum around, and that Biff is a lazy bum. • 8. The Innocence of the Devil by Nawal El Saadawi In this novel, the reader (including myself) should have sympathy for Ganat and Narguiss. I felt horrible for both of these characters in the novel. Ganat was the proud and defiant woman who was physically attractive. Narguiss was the head nurse in the asylum who was Ganat s best friend. I had sympathy for Ganat and Narguiss because of what they had to go through in the novel. Ganat was accused for being born with her eyes wide open, not wearing a veil and supporting Satan. The judge that tried her was an oppressive man and sent her to an asylum for treatment. I thought it was injustice that Ganat had no say in what was accused of her. Having wide open eyes when born was in no way Ganat s fault yet she was punished for it, simply unbelievable! I understand that in the Islamic culture, a women needs to keep their head down but what does a new born infant know about culture/religion? I can actually relate to Ganat s predicament she had about being born with her eyes wide open. My family friend gave birth to a baby girl who was had a darker skin tone than anyone else in the family and the father hated baby girl because of it. He said Indian girls are fair not dark skinned. He ended up beating his wife for giving birth to a dark skinned baby and kicked her and the baby out of the house. I don t see why it was the mother s or even the baby s fault that she was a darker shade when the father himself was dark. This goes to show how culture can really impact someone and ... An unmarked police car rolled up and our conversation stopped as we turned our attention to him. In an acrid and condescending tone, the policeman pointed a finger to the exit of the parking lot and said, Out. Okay, just give us a moment to figure out what we can do, we replied. As three more police cars showed up, Officer X instructed everyone to go home except for me and my friend. Essay on We Real Cool, Poetry Explanation STUDENT NAME PROFESSOR CLASS DATE We Real Cool: Poetry Explication We Real Cool is a poem written by Gwendolyn Brooks in 1959, and published in her book The Bean Eaters (We Real Cool, pg 1). A simple and light poem, We Real Cool is vague enough to allow readers to visualize their own characters and setting, but specific enough to keep a consistent rebellious image. Brook s attitude toward the characters is undecided, as the tone is neither tragic nor victorious, but more so just balanced and neutral. We Real Cool is written from the perspective of the involved fictional characters. It is as if the reader is in the presence of these characters as they introduce themselves. They speak with confidence and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second half of this stanza is, We left school. This is an obvious statement of action, but leaves the reader questioning whether they left a not yet dismissed school day or a school day that had come to an end. As a third option, the reader might also assume they left school for good. The couplets continue in the next stanza with, We lurk late. With this line we can assume the verb lurk is meant to represent a much less gracious movement, an almost monstrous, but comical way of walking. In the poem s consistent three word lines, the word late is included to end the sentence. This gives the reader an idea of when the poem can possibly take place within the time of day. Although it may not be a literal statement regarding the time of day, as it can also translate to a rebellious activity the characters wish to point out. The second sentence within this stanza is, We strike straight. This line can also have multiple meanings depending on the usage and perspective of the words strike and straight. Two possible literal translations can be deal with fighting, as strike means hit or punch, while another meaning of strike is how one lights a cigarette. The fourth stanza begins with, We sing sin, a line that can also have multiple meanings. If taken from a paradox angle, the gentleness and innocence of singing contradicts with the literal meaning of sin. This method of verbal irony is what keeps the tone consistently light throughout ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia are the source of the earliest surviving art; these civilizations were situated between the Tigris and the Euphrates Rivers. Dating back to 3500 B.C.E., Mesopotamian art was intended to serve as a way to glorify powerful rulers and their connection to divinity. Art was made from natural resources such as stone, shells, alabaster and marble, and was often created as didactic pieces. No artist signatures can be found on most of the work, because the pieces were meant to embody the subject matter, rather than the creator. Popular items that typify this time period include cylindrical seals, steles, narrative relief sculptures, and lavishly decorated tombs. More than 4,000 years ago the valleys of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers began to teem with life first the Sumerian, then the Babylonian, Assyrian, Chaldean, and Persian empires. The Problem Of World Hunger Growing up, the commercials of starving children in Africa in need of food because of rampant starvation and the pervasive threat of death have been streaming on various media. World Hunger is one of the main problems that a large portion of the global population faces today. Hunger varies with severity but in this case it is the want of food in a third world country. World hunger is a problem that has existed for much of our known history; it has faded away from central concerns because it is barely brought up in everyday conversations. World hunger has many aggravating factors and principal causes, such as insufficient economic systems, misinformation, climate changes, etc. But the main debilitating factor is poverty as poverty always has led to people going without regular meals because they cannot afford to eat. There are vast quantities of people in third world nations and developing countries that are so impoverished that are in desperate need for food. Whether a country is rich or poor, there are always tremendous numbers of people dealing with poverty and hunger. Perhaps most disheartening is the cruel reality that most of the victims are young children. Hunger is a very serious issue that cannot easily be remedied. The sailors I have worked with come from all over the United States, and even some from other countries. While this has led to a rich experience, it sometimes presented a leadership challenge. What I found out quickly was that every sailor approached his or her service in the Navy slightly different. Some sailors served because a relative did, some to pay for college, and some joined to see the world. The more I spoke with sailors, the more I understood the importance for me, as a leader, to not only know the people I was leading, but also to try to understand their perspective. ... What I understand know, after reading Thomas Kuhn s The Structure of Scientific Revolutions (1996) was that his paradigm about discipline was different from mine. In fact, our paradigms were what Kuhn (1996) describes as incommensurable. The idea of incommensurability accounts for the different way that my commander and I viewed the world (Kuhn, 1996). Our paradigms about discipline were so different that we could not even really have a conversation about it without one of us getting angry or frustrated. At the time I did not understand this concept, and it left me confused about how he could approach a situation in a way that I viewed as harsh and unfair. Eventually, we were able to understand each other, and move forward, and eventually work together to find the best solution to future problems. We came to an understanding that we felt differently sometimes, but began to try to view the situation from each other s point of view. • 23. Book Review Of Anne Rice s Interview With The Vampire The first vampire book I have ever read was Interview with the Vampire, which peaked my love for vampire literature. This novel is a part of a series of Vampire Chronicles written by the author Anne Rice. Rice was born on October 4, 1941 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her real name is Howard Allen Frances O Brien; named after her father. When she was in first grade her name was changed to Anne. She was raised in a conservative Catholic home and attended a parochial school as a young girl. In 1958 her family moved to Richardson, Texas where she would gradate high school. According to Biography.com, Rice studied briefly at Texas Women s University and North Texas State College. After marrying Stan Rice, she eventually moved to California, where she earned her degree at San Francisco State College. (Biography.com 2014). Before her successful career as a writer of vampire novels and erotica she tried her hand at several different jobs. She was a cook, a waitress and an insurance examiner before she began her true calling. Her inspiration for her first novel Interview with a Vampire was inspired by the death of her daughter Michele, who at the tender age of five died of leukemia. The character Claudia in the story is based on her dead child, as an outlet for her pain and probably as a way to keep her alive forever. After her first novel Interview with the Vampire was published in 1976 she gained a vast following of readers who shared a love for the supernatural. Her novel was such a hit that in 1994 it was turned into a movie starring Brad Pitt as the vampire Louis and Tom Cruise at the vampire Lestat. The movie would be called Interview with a Vampire, instead of Interview with the Vampire. Luckily I was able to read the book before I was even remotely interested in watching the movie. I was completely drawn to Anne Rice after reading her novel back in 2000 when I was in high school. She changed my view of what I think vampires should be; turning them from a hideous, blood sucking monster to a beautiful and mysterious person full or raw human emotion. In these stories it s great when everything works out for the young couple, but sometimes it doesn t work out and there s always someone at fault. In William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is to blame for both himself and Juliet dying at the end of the play. It is Romeo s fault because he rushed into decisions, kept secrets from those that could help him, and there ultimately could have been a better solution. College basketball markets their teams after their best players, when those players decide to go pro early, the promotion of college basketball is hurt; along with the overall talent level of the league is lowered drastically. Games become less interesting because the players are not as talented. This in turn hurts the television networks because people do not like watching games in which they do not know who the players are. And then, that in turn hurts the league and the schools again because the networks will not pay as much to televise the games as they once did. The schools and the league are not the only ones hurt, by leaving school early hoping to make the big bucks the players hurt themselves. In the world that we live in today, if you do not have a college degree, opportunities are limited. Look at the statistics, 60 players are drafted each year, and there are only 360 roster spots in the entire NBA. The chances that each player drafted will make the team is almost an impossibility. Some people go back to school and try to finish their degrees, but most do not because once you give up your eligibility, you cannot get it back, with means most of them cannot afford to go back to school. • 31. The Secession Of The Civil War Secession Paper Assignment After Abraham Lincoln was elected president in 1860, politicians in the southern states wished to secede from the northern states. President Lincoln opposed slavery and hoped to get rid of this act in any state that practiced it. The southern states viewed Lincoln s vision as a threat to those states who supported slavery and they believed that having an anti slavery president would endanger the states in many ways. For this reason, South Carolina became the first to secede six weeks after Lincoln became president and later on more states to follow the secession (lecture). The states who seceded became known as the Confederate states and the conflict resulted in the civil war which lasted from 1861 to 1865 (lecture). The secession all falls back to the disagreement between the North and the South s different views on slavery based on three different factors which were geographic positioning, economic power and man power. Not all southern states seceded from the Union. The wave of secession varied between the Upper South, Middle South and Deep South states. The geographic positioning was an important factor that determined how much influence slavery had on the states. The Deep South states, which included South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas, were the states who were the most dependent on slavery. The reason for this is because the soil in this region was the best for growing crops. Most wealthy white men ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although his actions were not beneficial to everyone, Pope Sixtus spent a vast amount of money rebuilding the Vatican. He rebuilt bridges, streets, churches, and he founded the Vatican library. One of his projects included the expansion of the Palatine Chapel which would be later referred to as the Sistine Chapel. Pope Sixtus commissioned Florentine architect Bartelomeo Baccio Pontelli to rebuild the chapel. Pontelli was known for his ability to reconstruct and fortify building structures, which was pivotal to rebuilding of the dilapidated Palatine Chapel. The building plans for the chapel required it to be built on a larger scale than most chapels during that time period, and to have fortress on the top level of the chapel to serve as security for the Vatican. The actual layout of the chapel was a copy of the Jewish Holy Temple. It is still a mystery how that occurred, but many researchers speculate that Pope Sixtus requested that the temple build a church similar to the Jewish Holy Temple. The reasoning behind the layout of the temple has to do with a religious doctrine known as successionism, which is the belief that one religion can take the place of another. Researchers believe that Pope Sixtus designed the temple to illustrate to the world that the Catholic Church was the true church and that Judaism was not. Having a new Holy Temple meant that Rome was now the New Jerusalem, and the capital of the Christian world. Pope Sixtus arranged ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Evil In Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde Questioned for years has been the idea that man is born evil.. It has also been brought up in discussions about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Was Hyde evil because of the potion or was his other persona, Jekyll, evil from birth and that came out through Hyde? This argument will never go away, but the answer is out there. Evil strengthens over time but it is within everyone as soon as they take their first breath of life. The Bible says that even from birth the wicked go astray; from the womb they are wayward, spreading lies (New International Version, Psalm 58.3). The writer of this Psalm is saying that people stray away from what is right as soon as they are born. That is a hard concept for many to understand. How can an innocent child be evil right as they are born? When Eve ate the forbidden fruit that God said not to eat, she committed the first sin. Every person to be born is now cursed with sin because of Eve and Adam. Eve was not alone when she ate the forbidden fruit. Satan was there and he had tempted her by questioning God. Billy Graham ... Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, by the same anonymous author, is also of high literary sophistication, and its intelligence, vividness, and symbolic interest render it possibly the finest Arthurian poem in English. Other important alliterative poems are the moral allegory Piers Plowman, attributed to William Langland, and the alliterative Morte Arthur, which, like nearly all English poetry until the mid 14th cent., was anonymous. The works of Geoffrey Chaucer mark the brilliant culmination of Middle English literature. Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales are stories told each other by pilgrims–who comprise a very colorful cross section of 14th century English society–on their way to the shrine at Canterbury. The tales are cast into many different verse forms and genres and collectively explore virtually every significant medieval theme. Chaucer s wise and humane work also illuminates the full scope of medieval thought. Overshadowed by Chaucer but of some note are the works of John Gower.
