PurposeQuality of Schooling in developing countries is often low, teachers are often absent from class and classes lack basic supplies. Teacher quality and availability is often a problem. 121 children world wide don't attend school (Oxfam). Mesh networks, peer to peerThe X0 laptop also utilises peer to peer networking to create a robust and inexpensive infrastructure. The laptops have wireless broadband that enables them to work as a mesh network where each laptop is able to talk to its nearest neighbour. This development reduces a reliance on pre-existing infrastructure (Negroponte).
ProgressIn Rwanda , 61,000 children in 124 schools use of the laptops. An OLPC Coordinator said that over 1,000 teachers have been trained to use the laptops to teach. The Ministry of Education is committed to enhance the quality of education through the integration of technology (OLPC Rwanda).
