Old Man And The Sea Essay Questions
Crafting an essay on the topic "Old Man and the Sea Essay Questions" is not without its
challenges. Firstly, delving into the intricate themes and symbolism within Ernest Hemingway's
classic novel requires a comprehensive understanding of the text. It demands a meticulous
analysis of the old man Santiago's character, the symbolism of the sea, and the profound lessons
embedded in the narrative.
Moreover, the essay must not merely summarize the plot but explore the deeper layers of
meaning, connecting the events to broader literary and philosophical contexts. This demands an
adept ability to interpret and critically analyze the nuances of the story, considering the author's
style, historical context, and the cultural influences shaping the narrative.
Formulating well-crafted essay questions adds another layer of complexity. These questions must
be thought-provoking, guiding the reader to explore the thematic richness of the novel. Crafting
questions that provoke insightful responses and encourage critical thinking requires a deep
engagement with the material.
Furthermore, addressing potential counterarguments and providing a nuanced perspective adds
an extra dimension of difficulty. It necessitates a careful balancing act to present a compelling
argument while acknowledging alternative interpretations.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the specified topic demands more than just a cursory
understanding of "The Old Man and the Sea." It necessitates a profound engagement with the
text, analytical skills, and the ability to articulate complex ideas coherently. Success in this

The Remarkable British Empire
Over a number of centuries, The British Empire colonized or invaded all but 22
countries in the world. This is an astonishing feat that would make ancient empire
leaders such as Remesses II or Genghis Khan bow down to the power of the
British. Since the Middle Ages, The Royal Class in England desired a wide variety
of exotic spices. The merchants were under so much pressure to try to satisfy the
high demand, that they resorted to committing criminal acts such as piracy in order to
fulfill the demand of the royal class.
In order to truly understand the roots and culture of the British Empire one must
imagine themselves in 400 BC and as a member of one of the countless Celtic
tribes that existed in Britain. The land beneath your feet is some of the most
diverse soil in all of Europe and the landscape is full of trees and grassy plains. In the
book British Food by Colin Spencer, Great Britain s very fertile and rich soil
allowed the possibility for grass to grow year round allowing livestock to graze
green pastures, even in the winter time. Great Britain s soil allowed grains such as
barley, rye, and wheat to grow in abundance. The Celts would use these grains to
produce bread which became the staple of many Celtic and then, Anglo Saxon diets
(14).
The Celtic people were very fond of seasoning their foods with local ingredients
such as onions, garlic, shallots and parsley which grew plentifully in their fertile soil.
The idea of seasoning meals with local ingredients

Heartbleed is a name that security researchers have given to a serious bug found in
a very common piece of software used by many websites. The software name was
OpenSSL which is used to encrypt the information that we send to and from
websites. Heartbleed vulnerability in OpenSSL allowed attackers to get sensitive
data i.e. user s authentication credentials (login name, password) and secret keys
through incorrect memory handling in TLS (Transport layer security) heartbeat
extension. ORIGIN OF HEARTBLEED The name heartbleed is derived from

provides a way to test and keep alive a secure communication link which is already

In 15 October, 2014 this attack was identified by Google security team under the
vulnerability CVE 2014 3566 in SSLv3 protocol. In this POODLE attack the bug
has been found that exploited the intercept data that is supposed to be encrypted
between system and the server. According to the researchers who found the bud,
an attacker/Hacker interferes between the computer and the server with the
handshake process. This handshake process is used to verify which cryptography
protocol the server can accept using a protocol downgrade dance . By doing this
the computers are forced to use the older SSL 3.0 protocol to protect data that is
being sent. Hackers can then easily exploit the bug by carrying out a man in the
middle (MITM) attack to decrypt secure HTTP cookies, which could let them steal
information or take control of the victim s online accounts. The information to test
websites weather they are affected with POODLE was given by the
What Was The Role Of Reconstruction In The 1800 s
The Civil War was a major conflict in American history that led to the Reconstruction
period. This name evolved from the need to rebuild the war torn South, Union, and
Southern society (Keene, 404). Reconstruction was difficult to define because many
questions were raised by war and emancipation (Keene, 404). The two periods of
Reconstruction and the Fourteenth Amendment were significant events during the
1800 s. It is important to learn such topics to understand the history behind each. The
struggle to define Reconstruction began with President Lincoln. He thought that
extending lenient terms to the South would convince Confederates to surrender
sooner and speed the healing process (Keene, 408). Lincoln developed the Ten
Percent Plan where Southerners took an oath of loyalty to the Union (Keene, 408).

The Presidential Reconstruction was led by Andrew Johnson. He was committed to
maintaining white supremacy, so he created a policy to rapidly re establish
Southern state governments and restore the Union (Keene, 412). Pardons, amnesty,
and the return of confiscated property was offered to Southerners who took an oath
to the Union (Keene, 412). Johnson also laid out terms for Confederate states to
follow to gain readmission into the Union (Keene, 412). The Presidential
Reconstruction was over when all 11 former Confederate states established new
governments under his terms (Keene, 413). The Congressional Reconstruction
aimed at blocking Johnson s lenient policy. Two bills were passed by Congress to
counteract Southern resistance and the oppression of freedmen (Keene, 416). The
first bill was Freedmen s Bureau, which expanded its powers and continued for two
more years (Keene, 416). The Civil Rights Act was the second, which declared
citizens as those born in the United States (Keene, 416). Both periods of
Reconstruction are equally
Explain Why Did Tsar Nicholas II Face Problems From
1906...
Why did Tsar Nicholas II continue to face problems from 1906 to 1914?
After the 1905 Revolution, the Tsar got a little taste of what was to come if he did
not change the way the country functioned. However too little was done too late and
after war was declared and Stolypin s assassination it was almost certain that there
would be no more tsarist regime.
Nicholas II promised in the October Manifesto that a duma may be set up, so he
can get some liberal support. This was the first time the Tsar has tried at a
democratic government. However what displeased the people is what the Tsar had
done in April 1906. He passed on the Fundamental Laws which basically allowed him
to overrule any decision of the Duma and that he would keep most of his autocratic
power. It seemed that nothing has changed after the 1905 Revolution. The first ...

Many historians believe that if there was no World War I, Stolypin would be able to
save Russia by resolving the peasant s discontent. As the peasants had no land of
their own and the Mir was creating major problems, the peasants were quite angry.
Also they made up most of the population, which showed that they must be taken
seriously or they could do major damage to the country. Stolypin gave the peasants
the power to choose to leave the Mirs and join Kulaks freely. Because of this there
were some successes; record harvests in 1913 and production was increasing
however it depended on the region. The problem was that Stolypin was
assassinated and nobody was there to continue his reforms. However there were
many peasants that were left without anything and they were forced to go to towns
and look for work. This new class of peasants were dangerous as they were easy
targets for radicalism. Also most of the land still was owned by the high class and
not a lot has changed. The peasants in Russia were not pleased as
Analysis Of Of Mice And Men And Oliver Twist
Women of today or of the 21st century have the privilege of working, having an
opinion and the right not to be ruled by men. However, women from the 19th and
the 20th centuries were dependent on men, because only men were able to work
good wages. The only job a woman had was to either be a housewife and mother or to
be a prostitute. Nancy is a girl from Great London from the book Oliver Twist . She
is a prostitute and a thief and she is the girlfriend of Bill Sikes. Curley s wife is a girl
from the 20th centuryfrom the book Of Mice and Men , who is married to Curley and
lives in California, USA. For this coursework, I am going to be exploring the
presentation of these two characters, Nancy and Curley s wife, from the books Of
Men and Men and Oliver Twist .
The two characters were introduced by the authors Dickens and Steinbeck in a
very negative yet interesting way. In Of Mice and Men Candy says to George, I
think Curley s married a tart . Steinbeck uses dialogue to describe Curley s wife
when Candy talks about her to George in a negative way. This tells readers how men
have no respect for women because she is called a tart which means a slut, and
conveys the idea that women were thought in a misogynistic manner by males in the
20th century. In the Victorian era, women were supposed to be properly attired and
dressed ladylike. Dickens uses description to describe Nancy in an opposite manner,
....remarkably free and agreeable in their manners . She acted in a carefree
Cohabitation- Wiki
Cohabitation is an arrangement where two people who are not married live together
in an intimate relationship, particularly an emotionally and/or sexually intimate one,
on a long term or permanent basis
Reasons for cohabitation
When people have more personal freedoms, they seem to forget traditional morals
one of which is not living together until they get married. Through press, we know
that more and more young people cohabit nowadays, especially among students and
industrial workers. Why do they do that?
The first reason is free relationship. Usually, cohabitants are those who come to city
from provinces, so they are free to make their own choices. When asked, they say
thay they are not bound by their parents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When a couple is in love, love is wonderful. However, when they live together, they
will interact each other more and more and discover many bad habits of their partner
such as smoking, snoring, laziness, or speaking impolitely. It is easy to make them
feel disappointed with their love heart. In addition, when a couple live together
without marriage, they are usually dishonest. Both men and woman in cohabiting
relationships are more likely to be unfaithful to their partner than married people.
(Civitas)2. They will be unfaithful about their inner feelings or their finance.
Therefore, they usually argue and then find a new lover easily.
Another serious consequence is that cohabitation causes a lot of social evil. The most
social evil is abortion. Rate of abortion in Vietnam is very high in the world.
According to Family Planning Association, our country has about 1.2 to 1.6 million
abortions each year, of which 20 percent of adolescent ages. There are many young
girls who are in cohabiting relationship must abort because they do not have good
methods of birth control (TT GD) 3. Abortion affects the women s health seriously.
Many women who abort with unsafe conditions are usually infertility, even death.
Broken cohabiting relationship and abortion not only affect women heath but also
hurt women hearts. In naturally, they can not keep balance and focus on their work
in their lives. As a result, many young
Midwife In Australia
This essay demonstrates significant factors, a midwife and the women may face
within Australian public hospitals. As a midwife the key skills are understanding of
what supports and impacts the normal physiological process of labour and birth. This
essay will discuss two influencing factors that have a negative effect on the normal
progress of labour and birth. This will be seen, firstly by discussing the cultural and
environmental impacts of labour and birth. Then, examining how the midwife may
best support and facilitate the adverse effects of normal physiological process. This
essay also discusses a positive labour and birth environment within the Australian
standard model of care. Currently, majority of Australian women deliver their babies

Therefore, this will include to ensure adequate open spaces for the woman to move
around with a toilet close by, low or adjustable lighting, comfortable bedding and

to incorporate both physical and psychosocial/spiritual safety that cannot be
compromised. Most women birth effectively in a calm environment, this includes soft
music, dim lights and calming voices from all support person s around them

labour and birth. These involve endorphins, oxytocin, adrenaline and noradrenaline

Sports In Sports Essay
Teenagers competing in all kinds of different sports have always had a lot of issues
to deal with and even more in recent years with expectations for young athletes
getting increasingly high. These issues need to be addressed and I am going to
outline why. Young people generally have too much pressure put on them when
participating in sporting activities by parents, coaches, and teammates. Teenagers
have large expectations to perform at a top level by everyone around them when
playing a sportand the pressure put on them can a lot of the time be too much to
handle for their developing minds and bodies and will affect many other aspects
of their life which can cause plenty of stress for them. For example, many teens
participating at top levels of sport fall behind on their school work and will not
have the time to do many other things that may be important to them due to the
immense amount of pressure put on them from their chosen sport. A specific
example being in New York where a young boy, aged 10, was shocked when he
was told by the coach of his baseball team that he planned to have them cheat in
order to win the game. In my opinion, it is getting increasingly difficult for
teenagers to just enjoy the sport they love to play and have a good time with their
friends while still working hard and competing at a high level, and instead sports at a
high schoollevel are becoming purely focused on winning, which is because of adults
around the students being bad role
Cotton Mather
Typology and typewriters appear to be two vastly different tools that are used to
educate and understand the workings of the universe. One is rooted in Biblical
literalism, while the other is rooted in technology, which often seem to be
diametrically opposed. However, the evolution of spiritual thought and the
understanding of Godfrom the PuritanEra to the Enlightenment reveals that science
and technology has the ability to produce spiritual discoveries, increase morality, and
inspire a sense of patriotic duty in the New World. In particular, Cotton Mather was
essential in shifting Puritan values and ideologies toward the acceptance of new
technologies during the pandemic outbreak of small pox in North America, and set
the foundation for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What has drastically changed over time is our dependence on God, in addition to our
priorities focusing more on discovery of the unknown as opposed to pleasing
unknown, unseen divine forces. Typology and a typewriter may be incredibly
different, but they prove that the human evolution of spiritual thought, relies on the
creation of tools to bring us closer to understanding God and more broadly, the

Character Analysis Of Joe Rantz In The Boys In The Boat
Though all the members of the team are important characters, Joe Rantz is
undoubtedly the novel s protagonist. Trace Joe s character development from his
childhood to his gold medal finish in Berlin. How does Joe grow as a character?
What does he learn about himself and the world, and in what ways does he
change? Throughout The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest
for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Joe Rantz shows the traits of a common
protagonist. Joe grows throughout the book as a person and an athlete in order to
eventually push himself to win the gold medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. This
book is a great example of how despite his setbacks it didn t stop him from living
his life and chasing his dreams in winning the Olympics. Joe grows as a character
throughout the book, his life began at a very young age when his mother Nellie
died of throat cancer, this left Joe growing up without having a good mother figure
in his life. Not only that, but Joe was also really sick at a young age by contracting
scarlet fever. So he would be staying at his aunt Alma s home, where he was raised
as a young child. Later on when he turned five years old, he went to go back to
living with Harry and his newly wedded wife Thula. Harry Rantz packed his family
into his Franklin touring car and headed northeast, to the mining camp where he had
been working as a master mechanic for the past year. (Brown 71). The longer Thula
and Joe lived together, the bond between them
Essay about Analysis of an Advertisement
Analysis of an Advertisement
In this piece of writing we will be analysing adverts published by Guinness.
Guinness itself has, according to one of its adverts, been around since 1759. If this is
true then this would make Guinness one of the oldest drinks around today, except, of
course, water. What really matters for us is that Guinness has been at the forefront of
advertising since the 1920s. Guinness adverts have constantly changed to both
influence and keep up with changing ideas on gender, as well as giving us a few
surprises along the way. In fact Guinness adverts have been so consistently good that
there are books detailing all of Guinness adverts. One such book is where this piece
gets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This again draws the reader s attention to the top and the word Guinness. This is
emphasizing the product name and, in collaboration with the picture, makes sure
that the reader cannot forget what the advert is advertising, as is the case in some
more modern adverts. There is a slight pun in the words Guinness by the sea as it
depicts Guinness as a holiday resort instead of a drink. This lightens the advert up
and may make the reader laugh. This is to make the advert stick in readers
memories, as you are more likely to remember something that you laughed at than
something that you found dull and boring. Also the color helps to achieve this by
being very bright.
I believe that the target audience of this advert is the young adults because it shows
that drinking Guinness is cool. In this way it appeals to snobbery and the desire to
be cool and to keep up with what is fashionable. It also challenges popular notions of
gender by showing women drinking with the men. In this way it depicts women as
equal.
The second advert that we will look at is a T.V commercial from 1996. It is broken
up into eight slides. It shows women at work in what were traditionally considered as
men s jobs, like working down a mine and driving a lorry. It also shows a woman
beating a man in an arm wrestle and an empty maternity ward. This is showing that
women
Essay A Mother s Displeasure with Her Life in Rita Dove s...
In Rita Dove s Daystar, Dove describes an unnamed mother s repetitive and
exhausting daily routine to reflect the unsatisfying role that women play in society.
The woman in the poem fulfills her duties as a mother by performing her chores and
watching after her children, but at the end of the day, feels empty. Going through the
same motions and actions day after day are not enough to fulfill the woman s wants
or needs anymore and she finds herself dreaming of a place other than the one she
currently occupies. Dove switches tones frequently to express the emotions that the
woman experiences throughout her day and uses disheartening words to mirror the
mother s displeasure with her life. Diction is an integral part of the poem because...

She imagines an out of body experience and is able to indulge in her own fantasy
by feeling as if she does not have to be depended on by anyone for anything. In
addition to diction, tone also plays an important role in understanding the effect of
the poem. In the first stanza of the Daystar, when the mother is overwhelmed by
the many tasks already laid out in front of her, the tone expressed is desperation.
All the mother wants is a little room for thinking (line 1) but instead, is faced with
having to clean up after and take care of her young children. She desperately wants
to take a break and rest but understands that she must complete all of her duties
first. The tone then shifts to sympathy when the reader is forced to empathize with
the mother when they realize that the most anticipated part of her day is watching
crickets shed and leaves float in her backyard. Although it is peaceful when the
mother is alone behind her garage, the relaxation is taken away as soon as it is
given when reality dawns on her that her daughter, Liza, has woken up from her
nap. The mother does not have any freedom in her life and is constantly restricted to
the time table her children provide her activities and chores all revolve around when
her children are awake or asleep. Liza
Essay about The Benefits of Animal Testing are Too Great...
Animal Testing Animal testing began when William Harvey used animals 400 years
ago to find out how blood circulated through the body. The modern era of animal
research however started about 150 years ago with the rise of physiology as a science.
It was very different back then. There were no anesthetics or effective painkillers, so
the animals suffered a great deal, as did patients. Scientists learned that putting
animals, or humans through that type of torture was inhumane. Consider having to
have a leg amputated, which was not uncommon in those days due to the fact that
infections got very severe without the use of antibiotics, without even so much as an
anesthetic to control the pain. Now the treatment is there to help the pain, so... Show

It is very difficult, and in most cases simply not yet possible, to develop non animal
methods to replace the use of living animals. (RDS 2006).
There are many myths to animal testing. Many groups such as Animal Liberation
Front (ALF) contest that domestic animals are not receiving their rights and that
this is not justice. (BBC. 2006) However, studies have shown and proven that only
0.4% of all research animals are cats, dogs, and monkeys. 80% of animals being
used are mice, rats, fish, amphibians, birds, rabbits, and the occasional pig or sheep.
No matter what the animal, being used, a licensed breeder must specially breed it.
Another issue that is a big deal, yet is easily justified is the anesthetics. Anesthesia is
used to prevent suffering. Most procedures (60% in the UK) are so mild that giving
an anesthetic would mean more suffering than the experiment itself. (RDS 2006).
Members of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals
) suggested that
animals are not the same as humans so there is no logical reason to why they should
test products on animals. Obviously there are differences between animals and
people. Under the skin or fur, the biology of humans and other mammals is
surprisingly similar. People have the same organs, controlled by the same nerves and
hormones, like other species. When there are differences, researchers know about
them. The differences can actually help scientific
Garmin Vivofit 3 Research Paper
The significance of Garmin Vivofit 3 is the combination of waterproof and
disposable coin battery. Since users can wear the Vivofit 3 even in the shower and
don t need to take it off to charge, they can wear it all the time in one year, which
means users will not miss out any activities (such as steps) or lose the band when
they take it off. The reason why I think it s significant is that I had a Fitbit band. It
s not waterproof, so I need to take it off every day before shower. Also, I need to take
if off and recharge it every few days. The problem was, the Fitbit band is really
difficult to snap on. I only used it for three months because it was so inconvenient.
From user s perspective, I don t want a complicated band that track a lot of
Analysis Of The Book The Noble Lie
The thought that Sissela Bok about the whole truth being attained is that it is
impossible that it can be attained. She believes that people are lying deceived
everyone, and sometime is used to protect the person. She also thinks that people that
are lying is more important than anything in all of the decision that a simple lie
brings. I believe she doesn t have any faith that everyone could tell the truth. The
truth is something that is hard to say, and people at times need to lie to protect
their love ones. In the beginning of the chapter of The Noble Lie she explains how
there are different lies. She explains how the lies have different reasons to for
people doing it. For some of those reasons it is impossible to be completely truth.
Some have to lie to protect others, and cover up the secrets that can be told. There
are plenty reasons that there are to lie to people. She states, The lies are often seen
as necessary merely at one stage in the education of the public. (Bok 166) This is
something that everyone does growing up, and no one in one time of their life
cannot lie to anyone. The view of rejecting all lies that Sissela Bok has is endanger
and is something that could affect your soul. She explains on page 33 how religion is
someone that rejects that thought of lying. It is forbidden by our super natural
because it affects our soul. St Augustine someone that believed that lies was justified.

demographic events that had a significant change in America would be the Great

southern hemisphere of the united states to the northern hemisphere around the time
of the 20th century. To better explain this event in American history it would be
best to start with the chain of events that caused it in the first place. That starting
point would have to be the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. This was an
announcement that was laid out to say that if any state if not by the start of the
1863 that is in rebellion would have all there slaves declared free if they did not
reunite back with America. Abraham Lincoln, being the president at this time,
pushed this through because would have hurt and reduce the South s capacity to
start a war by encouraging and threatening that their slaves would leave the
southern lines and come to America s. Once the slave would come and join
America they would be enlisted into the army and fight against the south. This
defiantly was the most important and first act done to help Africans in America
because it helped bring up the idea of freed slaves, but this was only done as a war
measure because slave was at that time very essential to the South s war effort and
did not have helping and freeing slaves as the main idea. This announcement did not
Questions On Historical Criticisms Of Derivatives Essay
Introduction Derivatives tend to be an intricate topic in accounting. So to begin, a
very basic understanding of a derivative is that they are a binding contract between
two or more parties. The contract is for a future transaction of some underlying
financial asset. The purpose for companies to implement derivatives are to aid
them in managing risk by using a type of financial forwards, futures, options, or
swaps. For example, a forward contract is when Company A believes Company B s
stock price will substantially increase over the next year. However, Company A
does not have the resources to purchase the stock today. Therefore, Company A and
B enter a contract for delivery of 10,000 shares of Company B in one year at an
agreed upon price. However, derivatives are incredibly more exhaustive than the
rudimentary illustration above.
Thus, this discussion will examine scholarly articles to provide insight on historical
criticisms of derivatives, why derivatives tend to be a more complicated accounting
topic, implications for auditors and analysts, how FASB is making attempts to
simplify derivatives, and lastly, concluding remarks.
Historical Criticisms When FASB first released the exposure draft for derivatives, it
received strong criticisms. Dolde and Swieringa (1997), shortly after the exposure
draft was released, listed some of the major criticisms. Dolde and Swieringa (1997, 2)
noted that, Many...believe that [derivative standards] are too complex to be

Analyzing Dante s Inferno, Up On Your Feet Passage
Dante Says Up
(A critique on Dante s The Inferno, Up On Your Feet Passage)
As the great Norman Vincent Peale once said, The trouble with most of us is that
we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism. In Dante s The
Inferno, he creates a vivid image of what his version of hell looks like. Hell isn t the
typical hell, which they talk about in movies. You have to put everything else away
when you start to read about Dante s The Inferno. In Canto XXIV, circle eight, the
passage, Up On Your Feet, lives. This passage is a passage that is full of inspiration,
and drives a person to be their very best. In Dantes, The Inferno, specifically the Up
On Your Feet, passage (pg.207) can be critiqued in many ways, three of these... Show

You are the only person that is control of your body. No one can make you do
anything that you don t want to do. It is your own fault if you make the bad choices,
but you have to have the strength the choose the right ones. Once you know that you
are strong enough to pick the right choices then you are strong enough to do anything.
Lastly, within the Up On Your Feet, passage the final thing you see in the passage
while critiquing it is understanding. Understanding that no one is exactly perfect.
Everyone is fighting their own battles just like you. There is a ladder long enough
to climb: this much is not enough. Basically what this line within the passage is
trying to say is that, everyone has their problems, and once you face one problem
another one is coming. Life is a never ending string of problems, but with those
problems comes a million blessings. The understanding within this passage that
Dante says is the words that everyone wants to say, but is too scared to say. Facing
your fears is one of the scariest things that you will ever have to face, but once you
conquer your fear, its also the most rewarding.
Overall, there are many things that you could critique about the Up On Your Feet,
passage. First, in the Up On Your Feet, passage, there are many lines that go within
the inspiration category during the critique. Next, self drive is an extreme theme
within this passage of Dante s The Inferno while you are critiquing the passage itself.

Effects Of Bribery And Corruption In Kurdistan
Bribery and Corruption in Kurdistan
Corruption and bribery are like cancer in most governments and businesses around
the world. There is always someone that is not being faithful in his job. Kurdistan
like every other country is facing this type of conflict. It is destroying the economy of
the region. Kurdistan has been going through an economy crisis in the past few years,
corruption and bribery are a big aspect of this crisis. It happens in every day s life
everywhere around us. Bribery can be defined as offering something, usually money
to gain advantage. On the other hand, corruption is to abuse a position or to use the
power of your position to gain advantage. Whenever either one of these ways of
gaining advantage is used, other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The future of this region is in the hand of the students, so if the students are not
properly educated, the future of this region will be between some ignorant people
s hands. This conflict is harmful on so many levels. In order to resolve a conflict
one must find the roots of the conflict or what causes it. The reason why students
can easily bribe teachers is because the salaries of teachers are not adequate to
cover their needs and demands. If the government could pay the teachers higher
salaries that can cover all of their needs, they will not take bribes from students.
The low salary issue goes back to the bad economy in Kurdistan, and beside that
they are not giving the salaries in time causing the rates of bribery to increase. They
are also implementing taxes which are surely going to effect lower and middle class
people. Not having an infrastructure that the region can depend on when it s going
through a crisis is a huge cause of this phenomena. The educational system is
corrupted as well, because during this crisis teacher are even more volatile that
before to be forced by the higher class of the people with the power. The reason
The Real Inspector Hound Essay
Argument of a play: A play within a play in The Real Inspector Hound.
The Real Inspector Hound is a play by Tom Stoppard whose plot follows two
theater critics called BirdBoot and Moon as they attended a play in London. The
play also traces the narrative arc of the two theater critics as well as the narrative arc
of the murder mystery play that they are assigned to review. In the play, Tom
Stoppard provides a story and a one act parody play about the nature of role playing
in a detective fiction. This paper explores the play within a play as explored by
Stoppard where by the end of the play, both the internal and external play becomes
entangled and becomes almost impossible to separate. A play within a play is where

In the play, the main characters operate within two structural units. For example,
they acquire a single identity in the play as their actual identities and another in the
inner play as their fictive identities. The internal, which is the play within a play
and the external which is the Stoppard s play are intimately connected with the play
only functioning when it includes the play within a play and the play within a play
highly necessitates the external play s context. However, the distinction that exists
between their identities between the plays is not that absolute. The line that
separates the characters becomes weaker as they move across the boundary that
separates the inner from the outer play. This is replicated in the line separating the
reality of the world from the fiction of the Muldoon Manor s world. Stoppard was
able to provide a suggestion of the nature of role playing as well as the power of
illusion over reality through his creation of a rigid structural demarcation line after
which he violates the line through the entrance into the play by his
Morality In Gone, Baby, Gone
Gone, Baby, Gone is a powerful film that focuses on philosophical arguments
surrounding human morality in the context of a child abduction. The film begins
when a young girl, Amanda McCreedy, disappears from her home in Boston. Due
to the police force s lack of success, Amanda s aunt, Beatrice, hires a private
investigator named Patrick Kenzie and his girlfriend Angie Gennaroaare to find
Amanda. As the plot progresses, Kenzie discovers that Amanda s mom, Helene, is
a drug addict and had been previously hired to deliver illegal paraphernalia, and she
would often bring Amanda with her. Furthermore, Helene and her boyfriend
recently stole money from the local drug lord. The stolen money was originally
thought to be the catalyst for the abduction, so the Captain Doyle and Officers
Nick Poole and Remy Bressant arranged to trade the stolen money for Amanda.
However, the exchange fails and Amanda is thought to have drowned in the nearby
quarry. Kenzie then pieces together that the exchange was staged and that Amanda
had been taken by her uncle and Officer Remy Bressant in order to save Amanda
from her mother s influence. At the end of the film, Kenzie discovers Amanda
living happily with Captain Doyle and his wife and he calls the cops. Amanda was
then returned to her negligent mother and Captain Doyle was arrested for
kidnapping. The moral primary moral dilemma occurs at the end of the film when
Kenzie discovers Amanda alive. She was extremely happy and Captain Doyle and his

Ultrasound Accelerated Syntheis of Novel Benzimidazole...
Objective: Present research work is carried out for rapid development of some
biological active new heterocyclic moieties. Method: A novel series of 3
substituted 1 [1 (toluene 4 sulfonyl) 1H benzoimidazol 2 yl] propen 1 one (3a 3j)
were synthesized by tosylation of benzimidazole chalcones (2a 2j) using
ultrasound in lesser time with higher yields. All the synthesized compounds were
characterized by Elemental analysis, IR spectra, 1H, 13C NMR and Mass
spectroscopy. The newly synthesized compounds were screened for their О±
glucosidases and antibacterial activity. Result: Biological evaluation of the
compounds (3a 3j) revealed that most of them are good О± glucosidases inhibitors
and possess significant antimicrobial activity compared to their respective standards.
Discussion: Amongst (3a 3j), compound 3h showed moderate inhibition of
glucoamylase and compound 3j with compelling inhibition of О± amylase.
Compound 3g and 3e displayed excellent antibacterial activity against all tested
strains and admirable antifungal activity against Candida albicans respectively.

Who are Managers???
A manager is someone who coordinates and oversees the work of other people so
that organizational goals can be accomplished. A manager s job is not about
personal achievements it is about helping others do their work. That may mean
coordinating the work of a departmental group, or it might mean supervising a
single person. It could involve coordinating the work activities of a team of people
from different departments or even people outside the organization, such as
temporary employees or employees who work for organization s suppliers. A
manager s work may also include duties not related to coordinating and overseeing

Management Functions OR Process of Management
Management is the process of planning, organizing, leading and controlling the
efforts of organization members and of using all other organizational resources to
achieve stated organizational goals.
A process is a systematic way of doing thing. We refer to management as a process
to emphasize that all managers, regardless of their particular attitudes or skills,
engage in certain interrelated activities in order to achieve their desired goals.
PLANNING
* Determines in advance what should be done; looking ahead and preparing for the
future. * Process of designing business objectives and charting out the methods of
attaining those objectives; define goals, establish strategies for achieving those
goals, and develop plans to integrate and coordinate activities. * Determination of
what is to be done, how and where it is to be done, who is to do it, and how results
are to be evaluated * Planning as a function is performed by managers at all levels.
* Plans are guides by which (1) the organization obtains and commits the resources
required to reach its objectives; (2) members of the organization carry on activities
consistent with the chosen objectives and procedures; (3) progress toward the
objectives is monitored and measured so that corrective action can be taken if
progress is unsatisfactory. * The first step in planning is the selection of goals for the
organization. Goals
Describe How Several Ways Mineral Crystals Can Form
1.What is a mineral, as geologists understand the term? How is this definition
different from the everyday usage of the word?
To a geologist, a mineral is naturally occurring solid, formed by geologic processes
that have a crystalline structure and a definable chemical composition. Its internal
structure characterized by an orderly arrangement of atoms, ions, or molecules in a
crystalline lattice. Almost all minerals are inorganic, for instance, sugar is an organic
chemical in which is made by carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen that it is not a mineral.
2.Why is glass not a mineral?
A glass isn t a mineral because crystalline structure in which the atoms make up a
mineral aren t distributed randomly and cannot move around easily, and the atoms
in a glass aren t arranged in an orderly pattern. Moreover, both minerals and glasses
are solids, and they can retain their shape, but a mineral is crystalline ,and glass is
not because the atoms, ions, or molecules are the elements in a mineral are ordered
into a crystal lattice, and glass doesn t has those elements and disorderly arrange.
3.Describe the several ways that mineral crystals can form.
The mineral crystals can form in five ways. First, they can form by the

Chronic pain is a common symptom of diseases such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, nerve
damage, and is characterized as pain lasting longer than twelve weeks where
individuals will experience sharp or dull, causing a burning or aching sensation in the
affected areas and steady or intermittent, coming and going without any apparent
reason (Cirino Weatherspoon, 2016). Common management practices of chronic pain
involve oral and topical medications, which include nonsteroidal anti inflammatory
drugs, acetaminophen, opioids, and antidepressants (American Society of Regional
Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, 2017). The Public Health Agency reports, out of
every 5 Canadians aged 20 years or older, 3 have a chronic disease and 4 are at risk
of developing a chronic condition (Betancourt, Roberts, Bennett, Driscoll, Jayaraman

Monitoring Survey report indicated of the 17.7% of Canadians who indicated they
used cannabis for medical, 49.7% used for chronic pain caused by conditions such as
arthritis, back pain and migraines (Health Canada, 2014). In recent years a number of
studies have researched the potential benefits of marihuana an alternative to
traditional western medical practices. Encouraging findings have found that
marihuana use has due to patients reporting significant pain relief and reduction in
the use of other medications, including opioids (Ko, Hendin, Mindra Jung, 2016).
Similarly a review of clinical research noted patients who used marihuana reported
significant pain decreases, better sleep, and lessen stiffness (Jensen, Chen, Furnish

will using marihuana for medical practices (Desjardins, 2014), thus, it is important
that research continues to increase and ensure health practitioners are staying up to

Political Turncoatism
Introduction To be a party to an organization is to be identified to that organization
and renunciation of the other party. However, in the Philippine case politicians freely
and gracefully shift from one party to another, the other changed his mind and do the
same. Party switching had been a common scenario in the Philippine politics. Its
occurrence is usually at election times or at times when there is a need to resolve a
certain conflict involving a political issue or question and during times of revolutions
and People Power. True enough the party system of the country seems to resemble
chameleons of politicians going from one party to another.

I decided to think of the wrongs and liabilities of the political dynamics in the

for their own convenience and in my perspective, how the people just take that for

Is Eating Meat Wrong
Meat is more than just a saran wrapped package that one buys at the store. It is an
animal that went through a grueling process to provide customers with a home
cooked meal. I do not enjoy the fact that these animals unwillingly were born and
slaughtered just to provide us this, when there are other options to be had. I am a
vegetarian and have been for a little more than a year. I am healthy and believe that if
anyone put their mind to it, they could accomplish becoming one as well. Eating meat
contributes to global warming, animal cruelty, and is more costly.
There are many problems with eating meat. One of them is the correlation between
greenhouse gas emissions and the consumption of meat. As published on the Meat

If people are not eating the right foods, there can be an argument there. Natasha
Mann wrote an article on the website Opposing Viewpoints in Context and she told
a story about a family that was malnourished. She also made a list of nutrients that
you need in order to replace the meat that one is not eating. B12 is a vitamin
mainly found in meat, dairy products and eggs, vegans must get it from other
sources such as supplements, fortified breakfast cereals and Marmite. Deficiency
can lead to irreversible nervous system damage (26). Being just a vegetarian, there
are still options to get the vitamin from dairy products and cereals. Our skins make
vitamin D when exposed to the sun s ultraviolet rays. But with desk bound jobs,
long winters and unpredictable weather, it is not always possible to get enough.
Vitamin D is crucial for bone growth in children, and deficiency can result in
rickets (28). Vitamin D is a problem with meat eaters and non meat eaters. Vitamin
D is easily found in dairy products such as milk. Vegans drink almond milk or
coconut milk instead of milk from cows. Without sufficient iron, vegans and
vegetarians can become anaemic. Deficiency can also delay growth in toddlers.
Iron is commonly found in meat, but vegetarians can source iron from pulses and
leafy green vegetables (30). This problem occurs especially in fit, active, women.
There is nothing wrong with obtaining your iron from leafy foods or beans. High
biological value protein is found in meat, fish, eggs and dairy products. Low

The Value At Risk Management
Most people who have invested or are considering investing in any financial asset,
ask at some point in time the following question: What is the most I can loose on my
investment? The Value at Risk, commonly known as VaR, tries to answer this
question within a reasonable bound. VaR is used in financial mathematics and
financial riskmanagement as a risk management tool to measure the risk of loss of an
individual asset or a whole portfolio. Although it provides a good sense of risk one
is undertaking, it shouldn t be an alternative method to risk adjusted value and or
other probabilistic approaches. In the following lines, we first give a general
description of the VaR and the story behind its development and its applications. We

Financial institutions, mostly commercials and investments banks, use the VAR to
gauge the amount of cash they should hold in their reserve in order to be able to
cover the potential loss. Although the term Value at riskhas not been used till
the1990s, the origins of its measure lie further back in time. The arithmetic behind
the VaR were developed by Harry Markowitz (1952) in his studies of effects of asset
risk, return, correlation, and diversification on probable investment portfolio returns
which contributed to the modern portfolio theory. In fact, the trigger of the use of
VaR came from the crisis that tormented the financial market and the regulatory
responses to these crises. After the great depression of 1929, the Securities Exchange
Act established in 1934 the Security Exchange Commission (SEC), a federal
government agency in charge of regulating stocks and options exchanges. Since the
SEC initially required banks to keep their borrowing below 2000% of their equity
capital, Banks developed risk measures and control devices to ensure that they meet
the capital requirements. In the 1970, the introduction of financial derivatives
markets and floating rate exchanges have significantly increased the volatility, which
is the risk, in the financial markets. The latter was confirmed by the failure in 1995 of
Barings, the British investment bank, by the unauthorized trading in Nikkei (Japan s

thrown low and outside, and I took the swing. The ball landed in the hands of the

I believe in hustling and giving %110 effort when a person is playing baseball.
Baseball players get very low opportunities to prove themselves on the field which

I was at a baseball tournament on a warm summer day and I saw a sign in the
parking lot when I was walking into the park. The sign read, If you think you can,

and I would stand by it for the rest of my baseball career. Having the right mentality,

Comparison Of Monty Python And The Holy Grail
Monty Python and the Holy Grail, expertly parodies historical events throughout
the Middle Ages. It was able to do this by adding a humorous touch to these events.
Though with this they were only imitation and there were times in which the facts
were misconstrued about the general knowledge during this time period. The
examples the best demonstrate the differences and similarities include the time
period of the Bubonic plague, the determining of a witch, and the interactions
between Sir Robin and his troubadour. The first example that compared the general
of knowledge of the time period in the movie with historical facts is the Bubonic
Plague (otherwise known as the Black Death). During the time of the plague there
would be men with wheel carts who would come around and collect the dead. This
was clearly and for the most part accurately presented in the first scene of the film.
The inaccuracy that the film holds is simply a numerical/date error. The film in its
opening scene begins by telling us that the film is taking place in 932 A.D. This
could not have been so in regards to the Bubonic... Show more content on

During the middle ages there were many witch hunts, and many people were quick
to oust someone as a witch and in turn would try rid them of the world. In the
middle Ages method they used to determine if someone was a witch was they
would tie up their hands and legs, and place them in water. They would do this
believing that witches float in water, this was a lose lose situation for the person
being accused, if they didn t float they would drown, but if they did they would be
taken and then burned alive. The movie makes their own interpretation of this fact,
comparing witches to logs floating in water, which led them to come to the idea that
ducks also float on water. So in the movie they weighed her against a duck, since the
balance showed they were equal that determined her as a

the ribbons our nation proudly uses to help educate and raise awareness about cancer.
Each ribbon symbolizes a family member, friend, co worker, significant other, and/or

are widely known; however, cases show that Gestational Trophoblastic Diseases are
extremely rare but potentially dangerous forms of uterine cancer that can affect
pregnant woman during the beginning stages throughout fertilization (Gestational
Trophoblastic Disease, 2012). There are two forms of the Gestational Trophoblastic
Disease, Hydatidiform moleis a non cancerous form, where a fetus may or may not
develop. Out of all the types of uterine cancers presently known, Hydatidiform
Mole¬¬ commonly known as a molar pregnancyaffects one out of every 1,000

is even less common by affecting roughly two to seven pregnancies out of 100,000 in
the United States. In addition, choriocarcinoma molar pregnancies are more common
in Mexico, Southeast Asia, the Philippines, and African countries. Furthermore,
Caucasian women in the Unites States are at higher risk than African American

The Articles of Confederation Essay
The Articles of Confederation Independence from Britain made necessary the
establishment of a new government. Eleven states drew up new constitutions;
Connecticut and Rhode
Island revised colonial charters. The Articles of Confederation created a loose union
of near sovereign states. The Confederation was inadequate and was failing in the
structure of government. They also were in deep trouble, financially and
economically. The Articles of Confederationprobably achieved its most important
success in the handling of west diplomatic and financial concerns. In evaluting post

European governments closed off nearly all

Mikhail Baryshnikov s Famous Dancer
Mikhail Baryshnikov is a famous dancer from Russia. He feels that dancing helps
him to express how he feels and what he is thinking. He treats it like a job and it
plays a role in his contributions to society. This is because he is very talented and
wants to have freedom. Dancing is his form of freedom.
Mikhail was born in 1948 in Riga, Russia and liked sports during his early childhood.
When he was eleven, he started attending Riga Dance School where he learned
everything so quickly and gained his talent. Even though his mom loved dance, she
never got to see him dance because she committed suicide after he started learning.
Since living in Russia proved to be difficult for him, dance school helped him to

He did not complete his work with Balanchine successfully because his roles in the
stage performances were not developed enough. Robbins choreographed a few
dances which Mikhail danced in. Upon leaving the New York City Ballet, he was
ready to become the Artistic Director of the American Ballet Theater. Here, he
could combine his ability to express ideas in a creative manner with his best skills
in Russian ballet. He helped some dancers with their rehearsals for three months,
introduced new ballets to them, and obtained new pieces of dance from the people
who did choreography for modern dances. During the 1986 1987 season, a very
important season for the American Ballet Theater, there were so many problems
which Mikhail encountered while creating one of his shows, Sleeping Beauty.
Some of the crew members involved there either had health issues, got injured, or
died. Despite all of this, Mikhail continued working on his production. All of this
resulted in a sour start to the season. When the American Ballet Theater went into a
crisis, Mikhail quit his job there and shifted his focus from traditional ballet to
modern ballet where he performed in the Martha Graham Dance Company and
Mark Morris Dance company from 1988 to 1991. He also worked with a dancer
named Mark Morris on the White Oak Dance Project where a group of dancers went

Application And Application Of Input Controls
Introduction Most firms try their best to protect the data entry process in their
companies. As a result, the current computing platforms come with a variety of
applications. Some applications come with forms, which expect a user to fill in
particular details. To use them, consumers require various interactive components to
help them maneuver a page and operate applications. Besides, most website pages
will incorporate input controls into their forms to help consumers utilize applications
conveniently. The user interfaces will ensure that data entered is secure, safe,
complete, and accurate. In this context, users can enter data online or through
automated processing platforms. According to Veatch and Senning (2009), Input

Essentially, the focus should be on elements that promote the control of data accuracy
and quality for the sake of protecting users entering details on the pages. Without user
controls, it is likely that the implementation of data integrity while filling out forms
would be impossible. In addition, they help in the evaluation of data saved in
databases, as they ensure that all elements are presented in the same format.
Presentation of data in a similar format makes it simpler to assess and ensure that data
compiled is homogenous in nature. Finally, the validation rules and check routines
utilized in input control functions ensure that data entered in a system is correct and
meaningful (Perspective Pixel Inc., 2014). Such processes guarantee that data
presented by users filling a form make sense and is of a rich quality to the
organization in need of the data values entered.
Types and Functions of Input Controls The type of input control utilized is dependent
on its function on a page. Additionally, organizations employ particular user controls
with the aim of limiting data types; hence, facilitate easier manipulation of sent data.
In the event that multiple type set of questions is required for purposes of more
accessible analyzes, there is the introduction of different types of input controls. The
input controls help in achieving data accuracy, as

Mysticism is not always taken in the positive manner by people it is also
considered sometimes that may be the devil has touched a person and it affects a
person physically, morally and psychologically. There are a few characteristics
which accompany a mystical experience such as sense of unity or totality, sense of
sacredness, sense of timelessness, and not being able to describe the richness of that
experience.
In everyday life in regular basis we as humans undergo such experiences but we
forget them, we feel there is something or someone with us who is helping us in
keeping our hopes up, in difficult tasks we are not able to do alone, or in decisions
we are not able to make alone.
William James the writer of Varieties of Religious Experiencepopularised the use of
the term Religious Experience observed that Mysticism requires knowledge of the
Transcendental and personal religion is more fundamental than any kind of theology.
The writer defines religion as feelings, acts or experienced had by the individual
men when they are in solitude. James denies the very fact religion should be
practiced in groups and in public he keeps feeling as the central idea to be aware of
any kind of religion. The divine feeling should come from the inside in the

It is clear that with increased Chinese purchasing power, businesses need to
understand China s middle classes, which today are better educated, better traveled,
more informed and more demanding. Predicting a growing number of buyers in the
middle to upper classes, many luxury and sport car brands are also heading to China
either through joint ventures or increased imports, such as Mercedes Benz (JV),
BMW (JV), Porsche (import), and Land Rover (import). A potential problem faced by
many auto firms is the asymmetric distribution of China s population and income.
Competition in major cities (i.e. Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen) has been
accelerated in almost all market segments (including economic, middle priced, and
luxury cars) because of population concentration and relatively advanced
industrialization, which indirectly causes the overcapacity problem in coastal auto
firms. The nation and its auto firms need to work together in exploring inland
demand market and in improving the general living quality. Overall, growing
domestic demand becomes a source of competitive advantage in China s auto
industry. The national government is working cooperatively to promote domestic
auto expenditures. The growing middle class group creates more sophisticated private
customers than institutional buyers. Auto firms

The Taliban became responsible for punishing those who committed crimes by
killing the criminals. These acts started a small fear in the Afghanistan people. Soon,
the Taliban group became a well armed and well funded militia with the support of a
province in Pakistan. As soon as fear stirred among the Afghani people, the president
of Afghanistan, Burhanuddin Rabbani, tried to create an alliance against the Taliban
in Kabul, the capitol. This alliance fell through, and the president eventually fled
Afghanistan. In December of 1995, the Taliban took hold of Afghanistan as a result.
On May 25th, 1997, Pakistan recognized the Taliban as the Government of
Afghanistan, the following day, Saudi Arabia also made this recognition. In August
of 1998, the United States had become suspicious of the Taliban forces, and the U.S.
fired five missals at Afghanistan because of suspicions that the Taliban was behind
the bombings of the U.S. embassies in East Africa.
At its height, the Taliban was recognized by Pakistan, by the United Arab Emirates
and by Saudi Arabia. It then controlled all of Afghanistan, apart from small regions in
the northeast, which were held by the Northern Alliance. Most of the rest of the
world, and the United Nations continued to recognize Rabbani as Afghanistan s legal

Eskimo Pie (Stand Alone Value)
Stand Alone Value
There are many valuation methods that could be used to evaluate this company.
Finding a method that valuates the stand alone value is difficult. The stand alone
value should be dependent upon the firm’s own assets and projected future
income. We decided to evaluate this company based upon two methods: The
Discounted Cash Flow Method and the Comparable Companies Method.
Discounted Cash Flow Method takes the forecast free cash flows during forecasted
horizon. Then we estimate the cost of capital (weighted average cost of capital) and
estimate continuing value (value after forecast horizon). The future value is
discounted to the present value. We than add back cash ($13 Million) and non current

Who will benefit
Reynolds Metals will benefit more financially by not selling to Nestle Foods. Both
estimated stand alone values are less then the purchase price, but Reynolds Metals
will have to pay significantly high capital gains by selling to Nestle. Capital gain
taxes will take a large sum of the cash.
On the other hand, Nestle will benefit from the purchase because it will get a tax
break from borrowing money to the purchase company and as mention above, buying
Eskimo Pie will lower overhead cost by eliminating Eskimo Pie management and
Nestle utilizing existing facilities and eliminating sublicensing costs creating greater
cash flows.
Based on the projections, Eskimo Pie Company is expecting sales growth
estimated at 15%. It is also undervalued compared to its industry average. Doing
the IPO will create higher market value of the company and generate enough cash
to finance the IPO. In addition, the IPO will benefit senior management,
employees, and the community. If Reynolds Metals is concerned about receiving
cash, they will receive upfront of 84% of $15 Million dollars of dividends and the
value of the stock would increase because it will be valued based on the market.

Potato Chip Calorimetry Lab
Calorimetry Lab
Introduction: As heat is released from an endothermic reaction, the heat is absorbed
by another substance, as energy, in this case heat, cannot be created nor destroyed.
Through calorimetry and enthalpy, the amount of energy absorbed by another
substance can be measured using the equation q=mcО”T, with the amount of energy
in Joules equaling the mass, specific heat, and temperature change of a substance, as
in this experiment, with the heat released from the combustion of the potato chip
causing the temperature of the water above it to dry.
Purpose: The purpose of the calorimetry lab is to investigate the amount of energy in
Calories produced when a potato chip is consumed, in this case by fire.
Hypothesis: If the temperature of the chip rises, the temperature of the water above it
will absorb some of the energy released by the endothermic reaction of the burning
potato chip.
Raw Data/ Results/ Observations: An increase in the mass of the potato chip resulted
in an increase in temperature change, with the height of the water above the flame
produced by the burning chip remaining constant. Although there was ВЅ gram more

Understanding The Terms State And Trait
First, define the terms state and trait. States are temporarily behaviors and feelings
that depend on a person s circumstances. States are responsible how to deal with
everyday stress circumstances. Traits are stable characteristic behaviors and
feelings also known as personality, it is a consistent way how individuals respond
to stress. It is genetic based (Kottler, 2011, pg. 116). Second, provide a brief
description of each of the personality types and how each deals with stress. Different

learned behavior between people, where one person is emotionally destructive and
abusive in relationship. One patient is the sick one and another one is enabler. Both
parties stay in this codependent relationship while they are feeling needed. While
dealing with stress, they continue to proceed to repeat the same dysfunctional,
dependent patterns over and over again until they experience consequences for their
actions and seek help. Codependent persons develop emotional problems, such as
depression, anxiety, and being hyperactive in one second and lethargic in another
second. As well, codependent persons can also experience physical problems, such as

  • 8. The Remarkable British Empire Over a number of centuries, The British Empire colonized or invaded all but 22 countries in the world. This is an astonishing feat that would make ancient empire leaders such as Remesses II or Genghis Khan bow down to the power of the British. Since the Middle Ages, The Royal Class in England desired a wide variety of exotic spices. The merchants were under so much pressure to try to satisfy the high demand, that they resorted to committing criminal acts such as piracy in order to fulfill the demand of the royal class. In order to truly understand the roots and culture of the British Empire one must imagine themselves in 400 BC and as a member of one of the countless Celtic tribes that existed in Britain. The land beneath your feet is some of the most diverse soil in all of Europe and the landscape is full of trees and grassy plains. In the book British Food by Colin Spencer, Great Britain s very fertile and rich soil allowed the possibility for grass to grow year round allowing livestock to graze green pastures, even in the winter time. Great Britain s soil allowed grains such as barley, rye, and wheat to grow in abundance. The Celts would use these grains to produce bread which became the staple of many Celtic and then, Anglo Saxon diets (14). The Celtic people were very fond of seasoning their foods with local ingredients such as onions, garlic, shallots and parsley which grew plentifully in their fertile soil. The idea of seasoning meals with local ingredients
  • 9. Nt1330 Unit 5 Heartbleed is a name that security researchers have given to a serious bug found in a very common piece of software used by many websites. The software name was OpenSSL which is used to encrypt the information that we send to and from websites. Heartbleed vulnerability in OpenSSL allowed attackers to get sensitive data i.e. user s authentication credentials (login name, password) and secret keys through incorrect memory handling in TLS (Transport layer security) heartbeat extension. ORIGIN OF HEARTBLEED The name heartbleed is derived from Heartbeat extension. Heartbeat extension is an extension for TLS and Datagram TLS. This standard was proposed on February 2012 by RFC 6520. Heartbeat provides a way to test and keep alive a secure communication link which is already created. Robin Segglemann implemented the Heartbeat extension for OPenSSL and was introduced in December, 2011. But opensSSL was not able to find the bug and flooded the flawed code into... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 15 October, 2014 this attack was identified by Google security team under the vulnerability CVE 2014 3566 in SSLv3 protocol. In this POODLE attack the bug has been found that exploited the intercept data that is supposed to be encrypted between system and the server. According to the researchers who found the bud, an attacker/Hacker interferes between the computer and the server with the handshake process. This handshake process is used to verify which cryptography protocol the server can accept using a protocol downgrade dance . By doing this the computers are forced to use the older SSL 3.0 protocol to protect data that is being sent. Hackers can then easily exploit the bug by carrying out a man in the middle (MITM) attack to decrypt secure HTTP cookies, which could let them steal information or take control of the victim s online accounts. The information to test websites weather they are affected with POODLE was given by the
  • 10. What Was The Role Of Reconstruction In The 1800 s The Civil War was a major conflict in American history that led to the Reconstruction period. This name evolved from the need to rebuild the war torn South, Union, and Southern society (Keene, 404). Reconstruction was difficult to define because many questions were raised by war and emancipation (Keene, 404). The two periods of Reconstruction and the Fourteenth Amendment were significant events during the 1800 s. It is important to learn such topics to understand the history behind each. The struggle to define Reconstruction began with President Lincoln. He thought that extending lenient terms to the South would convince Confederates to surrender sooner and speed the healing process (Keene, 408). Lincoln developed the Ten Percent Plan where Southerners took an oath of loyalty to the Union (Keene, 408). Once ten percent of a state s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Presidential Reconstruction was led by Andrew Johnson. He was committed to maintaining white supremacy, so he created a policy to rapidly re establish Southern state governments and restore the Union (Keene, 412). Pardons, amnesty, and the return of confiscated property was offered to Southerners who took an oath to the Union (Keene, 412). Johnson also laid out terms for Confederate states to follow to gain readmission into the Union (Keene, 412). The Presidential Reconstruction was over when all 11 former Confederate states established new governments under his terms (Keene, 413). The Congressional Reconstruction aimed at blocking Johnson s lenient policy. Two bills were passed by Congress to counteract Southern resistance and the oppression of freedmen (Keene, 416). The first bill was Freedmen s Bureau, which expanded its powers and continued for two more years (Keene, 416). The Civil Rights Act was the second, which declared citizens as those born in the United States (Keene, 416). Both periods of Reconstruction are equally
  • 11. Explain Why Did Tsar Nicholas II Face Problems From 1906... Why did Tsar Nicholas II continue to face problems from 1906 to 1914? After the 1905 Revolution, the Tsar got a little taste of what was to come if he did not change the way the country functioned. However too little was done too late and after war was declared and Stolypin s assassination it was almost certain that there would be no more tsarist regime. Nicholas II promised in the October Manifesto that a duma may be set up, so he can get some liberal support. This was the first time the Tsar has tried at a democratic government. However what displeased the people is what the Tsar had done in April 1906. He passed on the Fundamental Laws which basically allowed him to overrule any decision of the Duma and that he would keep most of his autocratic power. It seemed that nothing has changed after the 1905 Revolution. The first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many historians believe that if there was no World War I, Stolypin would be able to save Russia by resolving the peasant s discontent. As the peasants had no land of their own and the Mir was creating major problems, the peasants were quite angry. Also they made up most of the population, which showed that they must be taken seriously or they could do major damage to the country. Stolypin gave the peasants the power to choose to leave the Mirs and join Kulaks freely. Because of this there were some successes; record harvests in 1913 and production was increasing however it depended on the region. The problem was that Stolypin was assassinated and nobody was there to continue his reforms. However there were many peasants that were left without anything and they were forced to go to towns and look for work. This new class of peasants were dangerous as they were easy targets for radicalism. Also most of the land still was owned by the high class and not a lot has changed. The peasants in Russia were not pleased as
  • 12. Analysis Of Of Mice And Men And Oliver Twist Women of today or of the 21st century have the privilege of working, having an opinion and the right not to be ruled by men. However, women from the 19th and the 20th centuries were dependent on men, because only men were able to work good wages. The only job a woman had was to either be a housewife and mother or to be a prostitute. Nancy is a girl from Great London from the book Oliver Twist . She is a prostitute and a thief and she is the girlfriend of Bill Sikes. Curley s wife is a girl from the 20th centuryfrom the book Of Mice and Men , who is married to Curley and lives in California, USA. For this coursework, I am going to be exploring the presentation of these two characters, Nancy and Curley s wife, from the books Of Men and Men and Oliver Twist . The two characters were introduced by the authors Dickens and Steinbeck in a very negative yet interesting way. In Of Mice and Men Candy says to George, I think Curley s married a tart . Steinbeck uses dialogue to describe Curley s wife when Candy talks about her to George in a negative way. This tells readers how men have no respect for women because she is called a tart which means a slut, and conveys the idea that women were thought in a misogynistic manner by males in the 20th century. In the Victorian era, women were supposed to be properly attired and dressed ladylike. Dickens uses description to describe Nancy in an opposite manner, ....remarkably free and agreeable in their manners . She acted in a carefree
  • 13. Cohabitation- Wiki Cohabitation is an arrangement where two people who are not married live together in an intimate relationship, particularly an emotionally and/or sexually intimate one, on a long term or permanent basis Reasons for cohabitation When people have more personal freedoms, they seem to forget traditional morals one of which is not living together until they get married. Through press, we know that more and more young people cohabit nowadays, especially among students and industrial workers. Why do they do that? The first reason is free relationship. Usually, cohabitants are those who come to city from provinces, so they are free to make their own choices. When asked, they say thay they are not bound by their parents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When a couple is in love, love is wonderful. However, when they live together, they will interact each other more and more and discover many bad habits of their partner such as smoking, snoring, laziness, or speaking impolitely. It is easy to make them feel disappointed with their love heart. In addition, when a couple live together without marriage, they are usually dishonest. Both men and woman in cohabiting relationships are more likely to be unfaithful to their partner than married people. (Civitas)2. They will be unfaithful about their inner feelings or their finance. Therefore, they usually argue and then find a new lover easily. Another serious consequence is that cohabitation causes a lot of social evil. The most social evil is abortion. Rate of abortion in Vietnam is very high in the world. According to Family Planning Association, our country has about 1.2 to 1.6 million abortions each year, of which 20 percent of adolescent ages. There are many young girls who are in cohabiting relationship must abort because they do not have good methods of birth control (TT GD) 3. Abortion affects the women s health seriously. Many women who abort with unsafe conditions are usually infertility, even death. Broken cohabiting relationship and abortion not only affect women heath but also hurt women hearts. As a midwife the key skills are understanding of what supports and impacts the normal physiological process of labour and birth. This essay will discuss two influencing factors that have a negative effect on the normal progress of labour and birth. This will be seen, firstly by discussing the cultural and environmental impacts of labour and birth. • 15. Sports In Sports Essay Teenagers competing in all kinds of different sports have always had a lot of issues to deal with and even more in recent years with expectations for young athletes getting increasingly high. These issues need to be addressed and I am going to outline why. Young people generally have too much pressure put on them when participating in sporting activities by parents, coaches, and teammates. Teenagers have large expectations to perform at a top level by everyone around them when playing a sportand the pressure put on them can a lot of the time be too much to handle for their developing minds and bodies and will affect many other aspects of their life which can cause plenty of stress for them. For example, many teens participating at top levels of sport fall behind on their school work and will not have the time to do many other things that may be important to them due to the immense amount of pressure put on them from their chosen sport. A specific example being in New York where a young boy, aged 10, was shocked when he was told by the coach of his baseball team that he planned to have them cheat in order to win the game. In my opinion, it is getting increasingly difficult for teenagers to just enjoy the sport they love to play and have a good time with their friends while still working hard and competing at a high level, and instead sports at a high schoollevel are becoming purely focused on winning, which is because of adults around the students being bad role
  • 16. Cotton Mather Typology and typewriters appear to be two vastly different tools that are used to educate and understand the workings of the universe. One is rooted in Biblical literalism, while the other is rooted in technology, which often seem to be diametrically opposed. However, the evolution of spiritual thought and the understanding of Godfrom the PuritanEra to the Enlightenment reveals that science and technology has the ability to produce spiritual discoveries, increase morality, and inspire a sense of patriotic duty in the New World. In particular, Cotton Mather was essential in shifting Puritan values and ideologies toward the acceptance of new technologies during the pandemic outbreak of small pox in North America, and set the foundation for... • 17. Character Analysis Of Joe Rantz In The Boys In The Boat Though all the members of the team are important characters, Joe Rantz is undoubtedly the novel s protagonist. Trace Joe s character development from his childhood to his gold medal finish in Berlin. How does Joe grow as a character? What does he learn about himself and the world, and in what ways does he change? Throughout The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Joe Rantz shows the traits of a common protagonist. Joe grows throughout the book as a person and an athlete in order to eventually push himself to win the gold medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. This book is a great example of how despite his setbacks it didn t stop him from living his life and chasing his dreams in winning the Olympics. Joe grows as a character throughout the book, his life began at a very young age when his mother Nellie died of throat cancer, this left Joe growing up without having a good mother figure in his life. Not only that, but Joe was also really sick at a young age by contracting scarlet fever. So he would be staying at his aunt Alma s home, where he was raised as a young child. Later on when he turned five years old, he went to go back to living with Harry and his newly wedded wife Thula. Harry Rantz packed his family into his Franklin touring car and headed northeast, to the mining camp where he had been working as a master mechanic for the past year. (Brown 71). The longer Thula and Joe lived together, the bond between them
  • 18. Essay about Analysis of an Advertisement Analysis of an Advertisement In this piece of writing we will be analysing adverts published by Guinness. Guinness itself has, according to one of its adverts, been around since 1759. If this is true then this would make Guinness one of the oldest drinks around today, except, of course, water. What really matters for us is that Guinness has been at the forefront of advertising since the 1920s. Guinness adverts have constantly changed to both influence and keep up with changing ideas on gender, as well as giving us a few surprises along the way. In fact Guinness adverts have been so consistently good that there are books detailing all of Guinness adverts. One such book is where this piece gets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This again draws the reader s attention to the top and the word Guinness. This is emphasizing the product name and, in collaboration with the picture, makes sure that the reader cannot forget what the advert is advertising, as is the case in some more modern adverts. There is a slight pun in the words Guinness by the sea as it depicts Guinness as a holiday resort instead of a drink. This lightens the advert up and may make the reader laugh. This is to make the advert stick in readers memories, as you are more likely to remember something that you laughed at than something that you found dull and boring. Also the color helps to achieve this by being very bright. I believe that the target audience of this advert is the young adults because it shows that drinking Guinness is cool. In this way it appeals to snobbery and the desire to be cool and to keep up with what is fashionable. It also challenges popular notions of gender by showing women drinking with the men. In this way it depicts women as equal. The second advert that we will look at is a T.V commercial from 1996. It is broken up into eight slides. It shows women at work in what were traditionally considered as men s jobs, like working down a mine and driving a lorry. It also shows a woman beating a man in an arm wrestle and an empty maternity ward. This is showing that women
  • 19. Essay A Mother s Displeasure with Her Life in Rita Dove s... In Rita Dove s Daystar, Dove describes an unnamed mother s repetitive and exhausting daily routine to reflect the unsatisfying role that women play in society. The woman in the poem fulfills her duties as a mother by performing her chores and watching after her children, but at the end of the day, feels empty. Going through the same motions and actions day after day are not enough to fulfill the woman s wants or needs anymore and she finds herself dreaming of a place other than the one she currently occupies. Dove switches tones frequently to express the emotions that the woman experiences throughout her day and uses disheartening words to mirror the mother s displeasure with her life. Diction is an integral part of the poem because... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She imagines an out of body experience and is able to indulge in her own fantasy by feeling as if she does not have to be depended on by anyone for anything. In addition to diction, tone also plays an important role in understanding the effect of the poem. In the first stanza of the Daystar, when the mother is overwhelmed by the many tasks already laid out in front of her, the tone expressed is desperation. All the mother wants is a little room for thinking (line 1) but instead, is faced with having to clean up after and take care of her young children. She desperately wants to take a break and rest but understands that she must complete all of her duties first. The tone then shifts to sympathy when the reader is forced to empathize with the mother when they realize that the most anticipated part of her day is watching crickets shed and leaves float in her backyard. Although it is peaceful when the mother is alone behind her garage, the relaxation is taken away as soon as it is given when reality dawns on her that her daughter, Liza, has woken up from her nap. The mother does not have any freedom in her life and is constantly restricted to the time table her children provide her activities and chores all revolve around when her children are awake or asleep. • 20. Essay about The Benefits of Animal Testing are Too Great... Animal Testing Animal testing began when William Harvey used animals 400 years ago to find out how blood circulated through the body. The modern era of animal research however started about 150 years ago with the rise of physiology as a science. It was very different back then. There were no anesthetics or effective painkillers, so the animals suffered a great deal, as did patients. Scientists learned that putting animals, or humans through that type of torture was inhumane. Consider having to have a leg amputated, which was not uncommon in those days due to the fact that infections got very severe without the use of antibiotics, without even so much as an anesthetic to control the pain. Now the treatment is there to help the pain, so... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is very difficult, and in most cases simply not yet possible, to develop non animal methods to replace the use of living animals. (RDS 2006). There are many myths to animal testing. Many groups such as Animal Liberation Front (ALF) contest that domestic animals are not receiving their rights and that this is not justice. (BBC. 2006) However, studies have shown and proven that only 0.4% of all research animals are cats, dogs, and monkeys. 80% of animals being used are mice, rats, fish, amphibians, birds, rabbits, and the occasional pig or sheep. No matter what the animal, being used, a licensed breeder must specially breed it. Another issue that is a big deal, yet is easily justified is the anesthetics. Anesthesia is used to prevent suffering. Most procedures (60% in the UK) are so mild that giving an anesthetic would mean more suffering than the experiment itself. (RDS 2006). Members of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals ) suggested that animals are not the same as humans so there is no logical reason to why they should test products on animals. Obviously there are differences between animals and people. Under the skin or fur, the biology of humans and other mammals is surprisingly similar. People have the same organs, controlled by the same nerves and hormones, like other species. When there are differences, researchers know about them. The differences can actually help scientific

History 313 Prof Gorman 4/4/16 Discrimination in the north (African American) One of the most dramatic demographic events that had a significant change in America would be the Great Migration. It had to do with the moving of 6 million of African American from the southern hemisphere of the united states to the northern hemisphere around the time of the 20th century. To better explain this event in American history it would be best to start with the chain of events that caused it in the first place. That starting point would have to be the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. This was an announcement that was laid out to say that if any state if not by the start of the 1863 that is in rebellion would have all there slaves declared free if they did not reunite back with America. Abraham Lincoln, being the president at this time, pushed this through because would have hurt and reduce the South s capacity to start a war by encouraging and threatening that their slaves would leave the southern lines and come to America s. Once the slave would come and join America they would be enlisted into the army and fight against the south. This defiantly was the most important and first act done to help Africans in America because it helped bring up the idea of freed slaves, but this was only done as a war measure because slave was at that time very essential to the South s war effort and did not have helping and freeing slaves as the main idea. • 24. Questions On Historical Criticisms Of Derivatives Essay Introduction Derivatives tend to be an intricate topic in accounting. So to begin, a very basic understanding of a derivative is that they are a binding contract between two or more parties. The contract is for a future transaction of some underlying financial asset. The purpose for companies to implement derivatives are to aid them in managing risk by using a type of financial forwards, futures, options, or swaps. For example, a forward contract is when Company A believes Company B s stock price will substantially increase over the next year. However, Company A does not have the resources to purchase the stock today. Therefore, Company A and B enter a contract for delivery of 10,000 shares of Company B in one year at an agreed upon price. However, derivatives are incredibly more exhaustive than the rudimentary illustration above. Thus, this discussion will examine scholarly articles to provide insight on historical criticisms of derivatives, why derivatives tend to be a more complicated accounting topic, implications for auditors and analysts, how FASB is making attempts to simplify derivatives, and lastly, concluding remarks. Historical Criticisms When FASB first released the exposure draft for derivatives, it received strong criticisms. Dolde and Swieringa (1997), shortly after the exposure draft was released, listed some of the major criticisms. Dolde and Swieringa (1997, 2) noted that, Many...believe that [derivative standards] are too complex to be understandable,

Financial institutions, mostly commercials and investments banks, use the VAR to gauge the amount of cash they should hold in their reserve in order to be able to cover the potential loss. Although the term Value at riskhas not been used till the1990s, the origins of its measure lie further back in time. The arithmetic behind the VaR were developed by Harry Markowitz (1952) in his studies of effects of asset risk, return, correlation, and diversification on probable investment portfolio returns which contributed to the modern portfolio theory. In fact, the trigger of the use of VaR came from the crisis that tormented the financial market and the regulatory responses to these crises. After the great depression of 1929, the Securities Exchange Act established in 1934 the Security Exchange Commission (SEC), a federal government agency in charge of regulating stocks and options exchanges. Since the SEC initially required banks to keep their borrowing below 2000% of their equity capital, Banks developed risk measures and control devices to ensure that they meet the capital requirements. In the 1970, the introduction of financial derivatives markets and floating rate exchanges have significantly increased the volatility, which is the risk, in the financial markets. The latter was confirmed by the failure in 1995 of Barings, the British investment bank, by the unauthorized trading in Nikkei (Japan s stock
