Irish Immigrants And The Potato Famine
How did the Irish immigrants come? In 1818 there were Irish immigrants, they came on the first steam
service to go to the UK ,this was called the called Rob Roy. Within a decade, ships were also ferrying
passengers, mainly to areas in liverpool. One pull factor for them was that they heard that England had
a lot of isolated area that could be used for growing crops. One push factor is the potatoe
famine.Starting, in 1845 the potato famine killed over a million men, women and children in Ireland
and caused millions to leave the country. Many poor people grew potatoes for food. Potatoes grew on
unhealthy soil, even in winter. When a potato disease called blight arrived, possibly in ships from
America. It was a disaster. Potatoes went rotten, and were

The Importance Of A Hero And Frederick Douglass
Embedded Assessment 1.1 A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes
longer, (Ralph Waldo Emerson). A hero is just like an ordinary person, but they make a choice to
rescue someone, and put their life on the line. For instance, a hero is valiant when they need to be,
sacrifices themself for another, and they don t put another in harm s way.
A heroic person is undaunted by fearsome situations and uses courage when it is needed. When a hero
sees someone in danger, they aren t quite a hero yet. They are just a regular person that springs into
action to save someone. At the Primrose Daycare, a car crashed into a fence, almost running over
some children. A teacher that was nearby tried to shield the kids, [and] she got the brunt of it,
(NBCDFW, Injured in Crash at Frisco Daycare). This woman is a prime example of courage and her
quick actions saved them all. Similarly, Frederick Douglass displayed this amount of courage as well.
Frederick Douglass was a slave that had to be brave and escape himself and others from the wrath of
slavery. This is what the people saved by Douglass think about him, When it is finally ours, this
freedom, this liberty, this beautiful and terrible thing...this man, this Douglass, this former slave, this
Negro beaten to his knees, exiled, visioning a world where not is lonely, none hunted, alien, this man
shall be remembered, (Hayden 81). Frederick had to be strong and stealthy to make the journey to the
North. Both of

Analysis Of Reyna Grande s The Distance Between Me
In the memoir The Distance Between us, written by Reyna Grande in 2012, U.S., Reyna Grande told
her story from childhood to adulthood, she described her relationship with her family and how it was
affected by the distance between them. In her childhood, she was separated from her father and later
from her mother, making her live with her grandmother Evila. A few years later, her mother, Juana,
returned to Mexico, but she wasn t the same happy and sweet mother Reyna had remembered, and it
was because Reyna s father got another woman. Later in the story, Reyna s father returned to Mexico
and decided to take the kids with him to the U.S. In the second half of the memoir, Reyna described
her life in the U.S., her experiences, the abuses she received and how she went through a lot of things
to become a successful woman. At the ending of the story, she described her feelings towards her
father in a bittersweet way: What was needed was something I was struggling to give my forgiveness.
The day before my thirty sixth birthday, I found myself at my father s hospital bed as his life support
was turned off. As I held my father s hand, and my life with him flashed through my mind, I thought
about that question I had often asked myself: If had known what life with my father would be like,
would I still followed him to El Otro Lado? You made me who I am, I thought as he took his last
breath. And I knew then that the answer to my question was yes (322, Grande). The Distance

Ordinary People written by Judith Guest is a story about a typical American family. The book
examines how a family reacts to the adversity of losing a member. The book begins just over a year
since the Jarrett family lost Buck, their teenage son.
After reading the DSM 5 is was clear to me that Conrad was suffering from persistent depressive
disorder. In order to be diagnosed with PDD you must have a depressed mood for most of the day,
which in children and adolescents lasts for a year. Conrad s problems have been going on for just over
a year, as his brother died in early summer and the book takes place the next fall. His depressed mood
is apparent from the very start of the book, as he mentions not having ... Show more content on

First, is the Diathesis and Stress model, which proposes that depression, results from the interaction of
personal vulnerabilities and stressful events or circumstances. Therefore, if Conrad was susceptible
either due to genetics or temperament his brother s death could have been the stressor that resulted in
his depression. Although we are only given a little information on what Conrad was like before the
death of his brother, this is definitely plausible. Another factor is that research indicates that families
of depressed children are characterized by problems with attachment, communication, conflict,
cohesions, and support, as well as poor child rearing practices. It is clear that the Jarrett family has its
fair share of family problems. The first is a problem that due to his mother s love for Buck, Conrad
feels that their relationship does not measure up. Therefore, there is most likely some attachment
issues within the relationship. Lastly, there is certainly a lack of communication within the house.
Nothing is talked about because there is a belief that they don t have any problems.
The article Child and Adolescent Depression in the Family examined the positive effects that family
therapy can have on a child suffering from depression. The research found that all the studies
involving a family focused treatment was effective at decreasing youth depression. I think that this

Theodore Roosevelt became president after the assassination of President McKinley. He was thought
of as the first modern president because he was the first to get
involved in foreign affairs, with his Big Stick Policy. Other things he did during his president
that are remembered for are his Square deal, Hay Pauncefote treaty, his corollary to the Monroe
Doctrine, and his trust busting. The Big Stick Policy came upon after Roosevelt said that his
motto was to speak softly and carry a big stick. The press gave his foreign policy the name
(The Big Stick Policy). Roosevelt warned Chronic wrongdoing, or an impotence which results in a
general loosening of the ties of civilized society, may in America, as elsewhere, ultimately require
intervention by some civilized nation (veeser 314). Roosevelt acted boldly and decisively in several
occasions in
his attempt to get the reputation that the US is a world power. Imperialists liked his policy, but
there were still critics that disliked the policy and favored noninvolvement in global politics.
The Square Deal came upon after Roosevelt s first economic crisis. He demonstrated that he
favored neither business nor labor but insisted on a square deal

adjustment. In some cases survivors are not fully recovered mentally and physically. Even though
survivors sometimes lived normal social life, their sexual life are greatly impacted. Survivors
sometimes feel unattractive and undesirable. Even though stroke does not reduce the libido, the
resumption of sexual activities is a milestone in the rehabilitation process.
After surviving the stroke the survivor s lifestyle will drastically change to accommodate a healthier

Hundred Years War Weaknesses
Throughout much of the course of the Hundred Years War, the English attained astounding success,
but the tide would turn in favour of the French during the period comprising the war s Fourth phase
(1399 1429), whittling down the territory held by the English to the region of Calais and retaining
French sovereignty over the lands. Resounding military successes, effective tactics and weaponry gave
way to weaknesses caused in part by an overstretched military, allowing the French to emerge
victorious in successive battles and reclaim regions that had previously fallen to the English. The
defection of Burgundy to the side of the French proved to be a costly betrayal for England, while
internal political disputes further undermined their efforts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These problems had some political, rather than strictly economic origins the decline in revenue from
direct taxation, from its peak at 1100 sterlings in 1360 to as low as 100 sterlings during the 1400s was
not necessarily due to a lack of means to pay taxes, but a waning political will and interest . During
this time, the parliament and convocations blocked proposed direct taxes, thus leaving the poorer
towns under a heavy tax quota and leaving wealthier parts of society relatively untouched of the
poorer populations, the town of Beverley had, for instance, made a protest addressed to its provost in
1435 opposing the payment of 200 marks . Following the death of Henry V in 1422, the English
parliament s financial contributions to the war ceased for a period of seven years as the will to
continue investing in the war waned, thus placing limits on ambitions for conquests in France. The
Duke of Bedford, who oversaw the governing of French territories, managed to maintain garrisons and
safeguard conquered territory during this period through taxation from the English possessions in
France, though this brought dissatisfaction among the peasantry in regions such as Normandy.
Subsidies only began again when the gains made under Henry V appeared to be endangered in

Ephesians Historical Background
We must understand Ephesus if we want to understand the Book of Ephesians. Ephesus was a large
prosperous city in Asia Minor. One of the seven wonders of the world was in Ephesus. It was a large
temple dedicated to a goddess named Diana (Artemis). The temple and streets were lined with
immoral goddess prostitutes. It was a very wicked city and immorality flourished and flooded over
into society and families. Paul was clever in using the concepts of holiness, service, and temple to
reveal the power of the Gospel in how it creates a new people born of God dedicated to His holy
purposes.

Renaissance Period Research Paper
The Renaissance Period Lasting for a little more than a century, the Renaissance took a huge leap
from the art of the Middle Ages. Focus shifted from the intangible religious world to the tangible real
world. However, religious art did not die out. Instead, it too became more realistic looking as new
techniques emerged. Perspective now played an immense role in much of art, as did the three
dimensional portrayal of human figures. Also, it became extremely fashionable to be multi skilled. To
be skilled in many arts or trades was to be a Renaissance man. Three pieces of art exemplify this
pivotal era: Jan van Eyck s Arnolfini Wedding , Michelangelo s Pieta , and Leonardo da Vinci s Mona
Lisa . First is Arnolfini Wedding by Jan van Eyck.

Essential UI Design Practices For Every Mobile App Developer
When it comes to communicating with and accessing potential users around the globe, mobile apps
have gradually emerged to become a very important tool. Virtually everyone is talking about using,
having or sending mobile apps which have automatically become the buzzword in the mobile space. If
you are looking to create an app that will worth your users choice and time, then you must be ready to
build something that is well equipped with all necessary features and very attractive.
Alongside with User Experience (UX), you will surely need to consider developing your mobile app
with an impressive User Interface (UI). In case you do not know, this has to do with everything your
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Remember that before your app can be made available on major app stores like Google Play and
Apple Store, will have to be properly scrutinized and tested. It is advisable to use interactions, touch
gestures, and navigation systems to try out innovations.
Certain objective methods such as A/B testing and user studies may be helpful particularly if you are
seeking to try out new ideas on your own. You can use these methods to compare these components
with the initial versions of your UI. Through this means you can know which of the two versions is
simpler, more efficient, and preferable to use.
Make it look attractive
It always helps to keep the mobile UI of your app graphical. Just so you know, appearance (design)
matters much. An app designed with a more text heavy design will surely not be preferred more than a
mobile app with an enticing look. As a general rule of thumb, ensure to make use of graphics that are
appropriately sized.
In terms of your app s visual appeal, it is good to establish simple resource management but avoid
employing inappropriate graphics. Many mobile app development companies often make the mistake
of taking a one size fit most approach to enhance their app s graphics. If you want your mobile
application to look its best, then you must ensure to incorporate appropriately sized graphics
particularly those specific to the screen of the device you are developing for.

Horwitz And Foreign Language Anxiety
2.1.3.1. Horwitz, Horwitz and Cope s contribution and Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale
(FLCAS)
In 1986 Horwitz, Horwitz and Cope introduced their groundbreaking article and defined FLA as an
interrelated but a distinct type of anxiety for the first time: a distinct complex construct of self
perceptions, beliefs, feelings, and behaviors related to classroom language learning arising from the
uniqueness of language learning process (Horwitz, Horwitz, Cope, 1986, p. 129). Based on their
teaching experience with foreign language students in university classes, Horwitz, Horwitz and Cope
suggested that FLA is not only a classroom anxiety being transferred to foreign language classrooms,
but a situation specific anxiety, which learners experience in the well defined, unique situation of
language classroom (Tran, 2012).
From a theoretical viewpoint, Horwitz et al. (1986) was not only concentrated on the definition of the
foreign language anxiety, but also on three important performance anxieties: communication
apprehension, test anxiety and fear of negative evaluation, which they believed to be rewarding for a
better conceptualization of foreign language anxiety.

pointed out that, in terms of language skills, students who have a high level of foreign language

Abortion Should Not Be Legal
There must be a point in which the law acknowledges a life in all stages of development. Allowing
late term abortion is taking away the rights of life to healthy babies. An abortion can be carried out
any where from thirteen to thirty nine weeks. Some doctors say that late term abortions are only done
when medically necessary. However, there is evidence to prove that this is not always the case. In
order to save healthy babies lives, late term abortion needs to be illegal unless it is truly a medical
emergency. There are supposed to be laws in place to make sure that late term abortions are done only
when the mothers health is at risk. However, these laws are so cryptic, that when using the word
health, almost any medical issue a mother or their unborn baby has, can qualify for an abortion. The
laws also suggest, that at any point during a woman s pregnancy she may have an abortion. Ron
Fitzsimmon, the Executive Director of the National Coalition of abortion, confessed that most partial
births or late term abortions were done on completely healthy babies and mothers.
In addition, three out of four abortions that were done by abortionist, Dr.Tiller, were preformed on
teens who were in denial of their pregnancy. Until the teens could no longer hide their condition from
their parents, they proceeded with an abortion with out any real medical reasoning. Also, surveys
taken by women who have gotten late term abortions, showed that they received an abortion because

`` The Road `` By Cormac Mccarthy
Literature has always been a medium to express writer s concerns; in her award winning book The
Handmaids Tale Margaret Atwood warns of the instability in our patriarchal society, likewise Cormac
McCarthy in his acclaimed book The Road also gives a warning; that of the fragility of human nature.
Using the setting of hostile, post apocalyptic America these authors explore what happens to both
individuals and the wider society when rights and basic human necessities are taken away. Atwood
creates the patriarchal dystopia, Gilead, which strips women of their identity and through her
protagonist, Offred, she explores a society where human instinct is forcibly suppressed, but cannot be
completely stifled. McCarthy on the other hand shows humanity which has not yet rebuilt itself and
because of this basic human existence is a fight and the man s survival is a constant battle throughout
the novel. Using hostile environments as well as symbolism, metaphor and characterisation the two
authors reveal their ideas about identity and, subsequently, human nature. In both texts the authors
explore identity, revealed through the harsh and hostile setting. McCarthy s fragmented and sparse
writing reflects the barren and bleak landscape With the first gray light he rose and walked out to the
road and squatted and studied the country. Barren, silent, godless, the simplicity of his writing
replicates the emptiness of the landscape and basic need to survive which is now all that underpins the

Essay On Getting Organized For Divorce
Getting Organized for Divorce
A divorce is an emotional, stressful, and exhausting time in a couple s life. The dissolution of a
marriage, when paired with attempting to understand the legal process of a divorce, is overwhelming
and confusing for most individuals. Although this is a difficult time, each party must try to set
emotions aside and prepare for each phase of the divorce process.
In any divorce, there are a number of issues that must be resolved. Property must be divided, and
custody and visitation with the couple s children must be arranged. Will alimony be paid? Will the
divorce proceed on a fault based ground, or is one spouse accusing the other of causing the divorce?

Unfortunately, many individuals become blinded by their emotions, and make irrational decisions
during this time that damage their case. If you are going through a divorce, make sure to follow these
tips.
Listen to your divorce attorney. Your attorney s job is to offer objective, rational advice throughout the
case. If your attorney says that certain actions should or should not be taken, follow that advice.
Do not play games. When your spouse s attorney asks for certain documents during the case, or seeks
certain information, do not pretend that you do not have it or cannot get it. Such behavior is not
tolerated well by judges.
Remain honest throughout the divorce process. You may be held in contempt of court or be ordered to
pay your spouse s attorneys fees if you are caught lying during sworn testimony or in notarized
statements.
You must be open with your attorney. If you made mistakes during the marriage, own up to them so
that your attorney may prepare accordingly. Your attorney does not want to find out that you had an
affair during a court proceeding.
Similarly, stay in touch with your attorney and keep your attorney informed as to issues you and your
spouse discuss so that your attorney may take appropriate action when

Kate Chopin s The Storm Essay
Kelly Obert Professor Dr. Firtha English 1B January 17, 2016 The Storm by Kate Chopin. While it has
traditionally been men who have attached the ball and chain philosophy to marriage, Kate Chopin
gave readers a woman s view of how repressive and confining marriage can be for a woman, both
spiritually and sexually. While many of her works incorporated the notion of women as repressed
beings ready to erupt into a sexual a hurricane, none were as tempestuous as The Storm. A storm can
have several meanings, an aggressive ruckus of the environment with thunder, lighting, snow,
powerful winds and rain, or a violent response, when it is broken down it just depends on the
individual s analysis of the explanation. In the fiction story The Storm by Kate Chopin (1851 1904)
she associates the images of essential elements of a storm as a representation to depict the emotion
from the beginning, during, end and after the erotic sexual rendezvous bounded by the characters
Alcee and Calixta as well as molding a captivating tone, and a reminiscent affair in a generation where
it was frowned upon for woman to voice their sexual urge, above all pledging infidelity. An analogy is
displayed in our language daily, there is always something compared to another. The storm is used in
this story to connect the actions and feelings from the beginning, during, end and after the sexual urge
between the two characters Alcee and Calixta. The storm rapidly appeared lacking trailing great trial.

products and services. Moreover due to the emergence of globalisation, these organizations are bound
to apply cost cutting approach (lower wage approach), which influences the shifts in workforce
composition, labour utilization and labour demand. (Rani, 2000) This shift leads to what can be
defined as labour flexibility . According to Standing (1999), the term can be defined as a rise in new

For example: One of the outcome of globalization is labour flexibility, now if we consider labour
flexibility and portray it into Giddens idea, we can see that in order to meet the demands of the
consumers, firms are constantly looking for a workforce which can easily adapt to the changes in the
preferences and choices of the market. Globalisation not only plays an important role in these changes
of trends whether it is measured in political, social or economical aspect but also it is formulating
them. So in a way the term can be described as a meta myth (Bradley et al, 2000). On the other side,
stating it as an argument the concept of globalisation has no particular definition or a particular way of
how things will be affected due to its existence. There are two different extreme views that contradict
each other, there are the hyper globalists who argues that globalisation has decreased the autonomy of
governments and has increased individual autonomy, which has reduced the power of governments or
state domination on market regulation. On the other side, there are Neo Marxists who believes that it
has created a capitalist based economy that leaves room for more

Definition Essay On Plus Size Women
Curves ... More than the average. An authentic person. A generous silhouette. Round and magnificent
... Voluptuous ... There are so many ways to describe a plus size woman! What is the meaning of plus
size and what does it mean? The subject provoked controversy. What women are in this category?
What is a plus size silhouette?
We are often told via our social media platforms that our models are not really size anymore . Whether
it s pictures of our advertising campaigns, portraits of our fashion bloggers or photos of our fans, the
silhouette and size of the women we publish are criticized.
The plus size category refers to a range of silhouettes and sizes. Some women have small stature,
others are taller, some have broad hips, others have narrower hips, some have a strong chest, others
have a smaller chest ... but whatever their characteristics, Women all have one thing in common.
And what do they have in common? Simply ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Otherwise, they could not wear our clothes!
We are keen to show that the term plus sizes is not a vague term for randomly speaking all silhouettes;
It has a definite meaning. It refers to a range of silhouettes and sizes. So here is the list of our models
and bloggers with their stature and size.
The views vary with respect to the plus sizes and there will inevitably be someone to oppose our
interpretation of the term. On the other hand, before commenting that this or that woman is not really
much more , ask yourself if you are not judging the body of another woman. What gives you the right
to judge whether or not a woman is plus size ?
Be receptive to the magnificent diversity of women plus sizes, and encourage each other by offering
us support, affirming and accepting us, rather than criticizing us with disapproval. In clarifying our
position, we hope to have shed light on the issue and above all a more positive light in the debate on

Tennis Ball Research Paper
One cold winter day, I walked down to the blacktop at the start of recess period. The first thing that
seemed odd to me was that the wall ball crew did not have a tennis ball to play with. Then, as if in
answer to this thought, I saw Levi and Tim struggling to get the tennis ball unjammed from the rungs
of a gate to a ventilation system at the PCBC pavilion. Without giving much thought, I ran down to
help them.
For about a minute, we shared ideas on how to get the tennis ball down. After some intense
brainstorming, I decided it would be a great idea to sit on Tim s shoulders with a stick in my hand and
wack at the tennis ball until it rolled out from between the rungs. I sat there, trying to maneuver a way
to get it unjammed, but to my disappointment

H R Block Performance Management Best Practices
H R Block Performance Management Best Practices
During the time that I spent in labor force I was able to work with numerous of people in various
fields of work. When I first read this assignment, I knew exactly who I wanted to interview. Indeed,
out of all the people I ve worked alongside with, none made an impression on me quite as much as my
former manager Maria from H R Block. Her commitment, friendliness and work ethic were nothing
short of extraordinary. She was the first and only thought that came into my mind when I thought of
who to interview for this assignment.
The first question I asked Maria had to deal with her duration at H R Block. Indeed, she had been with
the company for ten years and had become the manager of the ... Show more content on

She was so well liked that clients would come from cities 100 miles away just to get their returns
prepared by Maria.
Despite the fact that H R Block is the biggest tax firm in the world, it still has many venues for
growth. In my interview with Maria, she mentioned to me that many people are off put by H R Block
due to the high prices. Other tax preparation firms charge anywhere from $50 $300 for a return while
H R Block charges range from $50 $700 returns. This staggering price range is the reason why many
people will risk doing their taxes with smaller and less organized firms rather than H R Block. The
reason why H R Block sets their price so high is because it backs each return with audit protection and
demands that the preparer checks every return carefully before being sent to the IRS. Maria claimed
that if more customers knew about the unparalleled quality of H R Block s guarantees, as well as the
danger and stress of an IRS audit, many more people would do their returns at H R Block instead of at
a cheap and risky unofficial stores . In order to solve this issue, Maria told me that she was trying to
emphasize the company s guarantees to the marketing team so they could make commercials and
brochures advertising this fact of H R Block. Americans need to consider the face that H R Block is
the largest tax preparation firm in the country. However, as Maria puts it: There is always room for

Non Verbal And Verbal Communication
Communication is important in any industry. There are many forms of communication and it is
constantly evolving. One such field that communication is important in is physical therapy. There is
constant interaction between patients, physical therapists, physical therapists assistants, other
employees, other health professionals, etc. This report will look at communication within different
levels of employment, non verbal and verbal communication, communication impacted by the
audience, technology, interpersonal skills, and feedback.
First and foremost is non verbal communication. The very first impression you have of someone is
their physical appearance. Nonverbal communication plays a large role in the dynamics of how people
relate to one another in the workplace (Perkins, 2010). It is important for workers in the physical
therapy profession to dress appropriately and show confidence. When working with patients there is a
lot to consider. What type of message do you send, consciously and unconsciously, in the way you
dress, your facial expression, your greeting rituals, your displays of emotion, your gestures, your tone
of voice, or your use of space? (Perkins, 2010, p. 51). It is important to consider all these because the
patient wants to know and feel they are in good hands.
Nonverbal communication is also important within the work area. Employers want to know they can
trust their employees especially with patients. An individual also wants to get along with their

Walt Disney s company was one of the biggest contributors out of the other big animation
corporations to the American animation industry and culture as well to the support effort for the allies
of WWII by providing the government with animated propaganda and Ignisia. Animation played a
major role for the advancement of motion film in 1900 s. Before motion picture camera, frame by

famous cartoons would be created which would lead to the expansion of animation studios in New

Mintz. Mintz had hired many of Disney s animators to his own company behind Walts back. He also
found out that Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was owned by Mintz according to the contract. So Instead of
giving in to Mintz by working for him and allowing him to own all of Disney s creations, Walt refused
and went along with Iwerks and Roy to create a new character and decided to move their studio on
Hyperion Avenue property in Hollywood. The new location of the their studio would allow them to
expand their materials in their studio and create a larger workplace to allow more employees to work
in there. A new cartoon character that would become a recognizable symbol of Disney would be the
famous Mickey Mouse which who would be have his own show and be featured in many famous
cartoons. It took

Improving Employee Turnover In The Workplace
It has been evident that organizations face challenges of maintaining employees within their firms, and
the challenge has been in place for a considerable period. Turnover in firms has been associated with
different costs that include the process of training new employees, training of the same employees and
their selection which has been seen to seen to exceed 100% of the total cost on an annual basis which
is usually witnessed in filling the existing position. The quit rate in the United States as indicated by
Bureau of Labor Statistics is at 25% (Glebbeek Bax, 2004). The significant issues that are associated
with turnover include work disruptions, direct costs, loss of seasoned mentors and organizational
memory. The other concerns that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Managers that are therefore in a position to obtain a shared understanding of issues to do with
employee turnover can be in a position to retain their employees and hence achieve a competitive
advantage. Turnover is also important for organizations so that they can r4place the old employees in
the process of them carrying out business processes (Glebbeek Bax, 2004). Organizations are in a
position to plan for employee replacement in the most convenient manner without necessarily
disturbing the existing equilibrium. Decisions about turnover made by the employees have also been
seen as an opportunity for employees to carry pout individual improvement. Employees are in a
position to carry out an assessment of the current job and bring into perspective the possible
alternatives that they can go for in the market.

Changes That Affect the Economic Environment in Business
Introduction
For this task I shall explain the changes in the economic environment on the business. This may
include changes within the following,
Business cycle
Inflation
Unemployment
International trade
The business that that I will be looking at is Whitbread who own Premier Inn and Costa coffee. I will
be explaining within this task how the above may affect Whitbread and its two companies Costa and
Premier inn whether it is for the better or worse.
Business cycle
When looking at a graph of a business cycle we can expect to see increases and falls in production,
income and expenditure of a company over time. The economy of the U.K, moves from boom to
recession over time and these changes within the economy have major ... Show more content on

This will also affect trade as If the UK has higher inflation than competitor countries (which it isn t
now, but it has been for a lot of the last few decades) then UK prices gradually rise above imported
prices. More imports are bought, so demand leaks out of the country and leaves UK businesses in a
weak position such as Premier inn and Costa Coffee so overall inflation is not a good thing if it does
occur and will have a negative effect on Whitbread s businesses.
Unemployment
High unemployment rates especially within the countries that Whitbread operate their businesses,
Costs and Premier inn can have a great effect on business operations as high unemployment will mean
that more people will be relying on benefits for survival and as a result will be spending less, this
would in turn affect businesses such as Premier inn and costa coffee as no one will be using their
products and services which will then effect profits which would mean that they would have to halt
growth and cut staff which are all negative factors as a result. This means when Whitbread are
planning on expanding within different countries they will carefully have to look at these factors.
Since consumers have lower confidence in the strength of the economy and less to spend, demand for
products and services drops, and

How Did The Mongols Have Centralized Government
In the era of third wave civilizations, there were major states that had centralized governments and
those without. The Aztec Empire, most were Mexica people, had a centralized government. The extent
of empire and rapid population growth stimulated the development of markets and the production of
craft goods (582) The Mexica people began to trade in the Americas and It was important for their
government to put out what was okay to trade to have relations with other states. There government
produced markets and craft goods to trade with their surroundings. Therefore, The Mexica people had
good relationships with other states in terms of their works in trade due to their centralized
government. The Mongols are known as the ones who killed many people. Well, the Mongols did have
a centralized government. In 1209, the first major attack on the settled agricultural societies south of
Mongolia set in motion half a century of a Mongol world war, a series of military campaigns, massive
killing and empire building. (524) At this time, the Mongols were under the rule of the Khanate,
Chinggis Khan. Chinggis Khan claimed that the Sky God gave him orders to conquer others.
Therefore, the Mongols were under the rule of conquering other empires such as the Persian Empire
and the Abbasid Caliphate in order to please the Sky God. This meant that their empire expanded to
almost all of Asia. It is obvious that their relationship with other states were terrible, as they sacked
states that

History of Portraiture Essay example
History of Portraiture
Portraiture is a visual representation of an individual people, distinguished by references to the subject
s character, social position, wealth, or profession.
Portraitists often strive for exact visual likenesses. However, although the viewer s correct
identification of the sitter is of primary importance, exact replication is not always the goal. Artists
may intentionally alter the appearance of their subjects by embellishing or refining their images to
emphasize or minimize particular qualities (physical, psychological, or social) of the subject. Viewers
sometimes praise most highly those images that seem to look very little like the sitter because these

The Romans were expert in rendering individuals. Some scholars have argued that it was the practice
of making and keeping death masks of ancestors (worn by survivors in the funeral processions) that
accounts for the enormous skill with which Roman portraitists captured the individuality of their
subjects. Many portrait busts survive, including images of Roman rulers as well as poignant
representations of aged citizens. Especially noteworthy are the mummy portraits from the region of Al
Fayyūm in Egypt. Painted during the 2nd century ad, these portraits depict individuals who stare
wide eyed at the viewer. These slightly simplified representations of staring subjects anticipate the
severity and frontal orientation of early medieval portraits.
The Renaissance marked a turning point in the history of portraiture. Partly out of interest in the
natural world and partly out of interest in the classical cultures of ancient Greece and Rome,
portraits both painted and sculpted were given an important role in Renaissance society.
In the Netherlands, Jan van Eyck was a leading portraitist; The Arnolfini Marriage (1434, National
Gallery, London) is a detailed full length portrait of a couple. Leading German portrait artists include
Hans Holbein the Younger and Albrecht Dürer.

What Was The Women s Suffragettes Movement
The Women Suffrage
The 19th of September in 1893 marks the day that history changed forever for the women of New
Zealand. On this particular day the governor of New Zealand, Lord Glasgow signed a new election act
into law. This new election act allowed women the right to vote in any parliamentary elections. New
zealand was the first self governing country in the world to give the women the freedom of the vote.
This new law did not come easy, women from all over the country fought for their rights and put up
with a long battle to freedom. This achievement was awarded by the suffrage campaign lead by Kate

can change history for women. The way women are treated by men and society is disgraceful and

When you asked me what influenced me to go for the vote you are really asking me to look into the
lives of an average women and how could you not. I believe this vote could change women s freedom
rights and could help improve other issues women face. As soon as we are given the right to speak in
parliament meetings, I will personally fight for the temperance union. This new law will cause
equality between men and women. I was influenced by the thousand of women struggling with their

Functional Neuroimaging Analysis
According to Klein (2010) functional neuroimaging technologies, such as positron emission
tomography (PET) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), have revolutionized
neuroscience, and provided crucial tools that link cognitive psychology and traditional neuroscientific
models in the diagnosis and treatment of brain disorders (Klein, 2010; Sabb Bilder, 2006).
Neuroimaging refers to a collection of techniques that allow scientists to investigate the functions of
the brain through the detection of metabolic changes caused by the increase in neural activity during a
task (Klein, 2010). Similarly, Moran and Zaki (2013) state that functional neuroimaging has become a
primary tool in the study of human psychology (Moran Zaki, 2013).

Strategic Management Of Dish Network Essay
Strategic management in DISH Network is one of the most critical aspects of management. Effective
strategic management could be the difference of DISH Network is successful or a failing organization.
The successful implementation of the strategic management plan in a large corporation like Dish is
highly reliant on measurement and evaluation efforts during and after the implementation phase.
Strategic implementation is the process that puts plans and strategies into action to reach goals. A
strategic plan is a written document that lays out the plans of the business to reach goals, and is put
into action with strategic implementation. Strategic implementation makes the company s plans
happen. Strategic implementation is critical to a company s success, addressing the who, where, when,
and how of reaching the desired goals and objectives (Lorette, 2016). By analyzing and identifying
strategies from DISH over the past couple years that did not work out so well versus strategies that
were successful to build my case. I will evaluate barriers might have gotten in the way of any less
successful strategies, and what type of strategic evaluation efforts do you think are necessary to keep
an eye on progress in a large company like Dish. I will explain how measurement of implementation
process help assures DISH s success, and the evaluation process helps to assure future success to the
company. DISH Network was founded in 1980 by Charles Ergen, Cantey Ergen and James DeFranco.

  • 2. Irish Immigrants And The Potato Famine How did the Irish immigrants come? In 1818 there were Irish immigrants, they came on the first steam service to go to the UK ,this was called the called Rob Roy. Within a decade, ships were also ferrying passengers, mainly to areas in liverpool. One pull factor for them was that they heard that England had a lot of isolated area that could be used for growing crops. One push factor is the potatoe famine.Starting, in 1845 the potato famine killed over a million men, women and children in Ireland and caused millions to leave the country. Many poor people grew potatoes for food. Potatoes grew on unhealthy soil, even in winter. When a potato disease called blight arrived, possibly in ships from America. It was a disaster. Potatoes went rotten, and were ... • 3. The Importance Of A Hero And Frederick Douglass Embedded Assessment 1.1 A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer, (Ralph Waldo Emerson). A hero is just like an ordinary person, but they make a choice to rescue someone, and put their life on the line. For instance, a hero is valiant when they need to be, sacrifices themself for another, and they don t put another in harm s way. A heroic person is undaunted by fearsome situations and uses courage when it is needed. When a hero sees someone in danger, they aren t quite a hero yet. They are just a regular person that springs into action to save someone. At the Primrose Daycare, a car crashed into a fence, almost running over some children. A teacher that was nearby tried to shield the kids, [and] she got the brunt of it, (NBCDFW, Injured in Crash at Frisco Daycare). This woman is a prime example of courage and her quick actions saved them all. Similarly, Frederick Douglass displayed this amount of courage as well. Frederick Douglass was a slave that had to be brave and escape himself and others from the wrath of slavery. This is what the people saved by Douglass think about him, When it is finally ours, this freedom, this liberty, this beautiful and terrible thing...this man, this Douglass, this former slave, this Negro beaten to his knees, exiled, visioning a world where not is lonely, none hunted, alien, this man shall be remembered, (Hayden 81). Frederick had to be strong and stealthy to make the journey to the North. Both of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Reyna Grande s The Distance Between Me In the memoir The Distance Between us, written by Reyna Grande in 2012, U.S., Reyna Grande told her story from childhood to adulthood, she described her relationship with her family and how it was affected by the distance between them. In her childhood, she was separated from her father and later from her mother, making her live with her grandmother Evila. A few years later, her mother, Juana, returned to Mexico, but she wasn t the same happy and sweet mother Reyna had remembered, and it was because Reyna s father got another woman. Later in the story, Reyna s father returned to Mexico and decided to take the kids with him to the U.S. In the second half of the memoir, Reyna described her life in the U.S., her experiences, the abuses she received and how she went through a lot of things to become a successful woman. At the ending of the story, she described her feelings towards her father in a bittersweet way: What was needed was something I was struggling to give my forgiveness. The day before my thirty sixth birthday, I found myself at my father s hospital bed as his life support was turned off. As I held my father s hand, and my life with him flashed through my mind, I thought about that question I had often asked myself: If had known what life with my father would be like, would I still followed him to El Otro Lado? You made me who I am, I thought as he took his last breath. And I knew then that the answer to my question was yes (322, Grande). The Distance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Child Psych Thought Paper Kathryn Graf October 29, 2014 Ordinary People written by Judith Guest is a story about a typical American family. The book examines how a family reacts to the adversity of losing a member. The book begins just over a year since the Jarrett family lost Buck, their teenage son. After reading the DSM 5 is was clear to me that Conrad was suffering from persistent depressive disorder. In order to be diagnosed with PDD you must have a depressed mood for most of the day, which in children and adolescents lasts for a year. Conrad s problems have been going on for just over a year, as his brother died in early summer and the book takes place the next fall. His depressed mood is apparent from the very start of the book, as he mentions not having ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, is the Diathesis and Stress model, which proposes that depression, results from the interaction of personal vulnerabilities and stressful events or circumstances. Therefore, if Conrad was susceptible either due to genetics or temperament his brother s death could have been the stressor that resulted in his depression. Although we are only given a little information on what Conrad was like before the death of his brother, this is definitely plausible. Another factor is that research indicates that families of depressed children are characterized by problems with attachment, communication, conflict, cohesions, and support, as well as poor child rearing practices. It is clear that the Jarrett family has its fair share of family problems. The first is a problem that due to his mother s love for Buck, Conrad feels that their relationship does not measure up. Therefore, there is most likely some attachment issues within the relationship. Lastly, there is certainly a lack of communication within the house. Nothing is talked about because there is a belief that they don t have any problems. The article Child and Adolescent Depression in the Family examined the positive effects that family therapy can have on a child suffering from depression. The research found that all the studies involving a family focused treatment was effective at decreasing youth depression. I think that this would be especially important for the ... Roosevelt s annual message, delivered on December fifth 1904, refered to Dominican situation and briefly sketched the reinterpretation of the Monroe Doctrine that would shortly bear his name (Vesser 314 ) Theodore Roosevelt became president after the assassination of President McKinley. Other things he did during his president that are remembered for are his Square deal, Hay Pauncefote treaty, his corollary to the Monroe Doctrine, and his trust busting. The Big Stick Policy came upon after Roosevelt said that his motto was to speak softly and carry a big stick. The press gave his foreign policy the name (The Big Stick Policy). Hundred Years War Weaknesses Throughout much of the course of the Hundred Years War, the English attained astounding success, but the tide would turn in favour of the French during the period comprising the war s Fourth phase (1399 1429), whittling down the territory held by the English to the region of Calais and retaining French sovereignty over the lands. Resounding military successes, effective tactics and weaponry gave way to weaknesses caused in part by an overstretched military, allowing the French to emerge victorious in successive battles and reclaim regions that had previously fallen to the English. These problems had some political, rather than strictly economic origins the decline in revenue from direct taxation, from its peak at 1100 sterlings in 1360 to as low as 100 sterlings during the 1400s was not necessarily due to a lack of means to pay taxes, but a waning political will and interest . During this time, the parliament and convocations blocked proposed direct taxes, thus leaving the poorer towns under a heavy tax quota and leaving wealthier parts of society relatively untouched of the poorer populations, the town of Beverley had, for instance, made a protest addressed to its provost in 1435 opposing the payment of 200 marks . Following the death of Henry V in 1422, the English parliament s financial contributions to the war ceased for a period of seven years as the will to continue investing in the war waned, thus placing limits on ambitions for conquests in France. The Duke of Bedford, who oversaw the governing of French territories, managed to maintain garrisons and safeguard conquered territory during this period through taxation from the English possessions in France, though this brought dissatisfaction among the peasantry in regions such as Normandy. • 12. Renaissance Period Research Paper The Renaissance Period Lasting for a little more than a century, the Renaissance took a huge leap from the art of the Middle Ages. Focus shifted from the intangible religious world to the tangible real world. However, religious art did not die out. Instead, it too became more realistic looking as new techniques emerged. Perspective now played an immense role in much of art, as did the three dimensional portrayal of human figures. Also, it became extremely fashionable to be multi skilled. To be skilled in many arts or trades was to be a Renaissance man. Horwitz, Horwitz and Cope s contribution and Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) In 1986 Horwitz, Horwitz and Cope introduced their groundbreaking article and defined FLA as an interrelated but a distinct type of anxiety for the first time: a distinct complex construct of self perceptions, beliefs, feelings, and behaviors related to classroom language learning arising from the uniqueness of language learning process (Horwitz, Horwitz, Cope, 1986, p. 129). Based on their teaching experience with foreign language students in university classes, Horwitz, Horwitz and Cope suggested that FLA is not only a classroom anxiety being transferred to foreign language classrooms, but a situation specific anxiety, which learners experience in the well defined, unique situation of language classroom (Tran, 2012). From a theoretical viewpoint, Horwitz et al. • 17. Abortion Should Not Be Legal There must be a point in which the law acknowledges a life in all stages of development. Allowing late term abortion is taking away the rights of life to healthy babies. An abortion can be carried out any where from thirteen to thirty nine weeks. Some doctors say that late term abortions are only done when medically necessary. However, there is evidence to prove that this is not always the case. In order to save healthy babies lives, late term abortion needs to be illegal unless it is truly a medical emergency. There are supposed to be laws in place to make sure that late term abortions are done only when the mothers health is at risk. However, these laws are so cryptic, that when using the word health, almost any medical issue a mother or their unborn baby has, can qualify for an abortion. The laws also suggest, that at any point during a woman s pregnancy she may have an abortion. Ron Fitzsimmon, the Executive Director of the National Coalition of abortion, confessed that most partial births or late term abortions were done on completely healthy babies and mothers. In addition, three out of four abortions that were done by abortionist, Dr.Tiller, were preformed on teens who were in denial of their pregnancy. Using the setting of hostile, post apocalyptic America these authors explore what happens to both individuals and the wider society when rights and basic human necessities are taken away. Atwood creates the patriarchal dystopia, Gilead, which strips women of their identity and through her protagonist, Offred, she explores a society where human instinct is forcibly suppressed, but cannot be completely stifled. McCarthy on the other hand shows humanity which has not yet rebuilt itself and because of this basic human existence is a fight and the man s survival is a constant battle throughout the novel. Using hostile environments as well as symbolism, metaphor and characterisation the two authors reveal their ideas about identity and, subsequently, human nature. In both texts the authors explore identity, revealed through the harsh and hostile setting. McCarthy s fragmented and sparse writing reflects the barren and bleak landscape With the first gray light he rose and walked out to the road and squatted and studied the country. While it has traditionally been men who have attached the ball and chain philosophy to marriage, Kate Chopin gave readers a woman s view of how repressive and confining marriage can be for a woman, both spiritually and sexually. While many of her works incorporated the notion of women as repressed beings ready to erupt into a sexual a hurricane, none were as tempestuous as The Storm. A storm can have several meanings, an aggressive ruckus of the environment with thunder, lighting, snow, powerful winds and rain, or a violent response, when it is broken down it just depends on the individual s analysis of the explanation. In the fiction story The Storm by Kate Chopin (1851 1904) she associates the images of essential elements of a storm as a representation to depict the emotion from the beginning, during, end and after the erotic sexual rendezvous bounded by the characters Alcee and Calixta as well as molding a captivating tone, and a reminiscent affair in a generation where it was frowned upon for woman to voice their sexual urge, above all pledging infidelity. An analogy is displayed in our language daily, there is always something compared to another.
