Pharmacognosy studies drugs from natural sources including plants, animals, fungi and microorganisms. It aims to acquire knowledge about natural drugs from collection to extraction and identification of active chemical constituents. Pharmacognosy provides important information used in drug formulation, determining drug actions, prices, and isolating phytochemicals. It also studies biosynthetic pathways and plays a role in partial drug synthesis, using natural products as models for new drugs, and investigating drugs for various therapeutic uses. Pharmacognosy is an important link between pharmaceuticals and basic sciences as well as between allopathic and herbal medicine systems.
Black cumin oil contains the potent antioxidant thymoquinone. Studies show thymoquinone has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, and helps stimulate bile production and fat metabolism in the liver. Black cumin is also high in essential fatty acids and vitamins that are beneficial for brain function, blood pressure, and immune defenses. Research has found black cumin oil to have anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and potential anti-cancer effects. Black cumin nourishes the body, aids digestion, and promotes skin and immune health.
Homeopathy treats the whole person rather than just the disease based on the principle of "like cures like" where a substance that causes symptoms can cure similar symptoms. Remedies are selected based on a patient's overall health picture and administered in extremely dilute doses. While some are skeptical of its effectiveness due to the dilute doses, supporters point to numerous randomized controlled trials and other evidence showing positive results for various common ailments like indigestion, joint pain, bruising, insomnia, eczema, and hay fever. A homeopathic consultation involves taking a full medical history to determine the best individualized remedy. Follow-up appointments assess treatment progress.
Chaulmoogra oil is a fixed oil obtained from seeds of various Hydnocarpus species found in Myanmar. It contains chaulmoogric acid and hydnoctic acid as major constituents. Chaulmoogra oil has bactericidal effects against Mycobacterium leprae and M. tuberculosis, making it useful in the treatment of leprosy, tuberculosis, psoriasis, and rheumatism. It is administered by intramuscular or subcutaneous injection.

Cloves are the aromatic flower buds of a tree in the family Myrtaceae, Syzygium aromaticum. They are native to the Maluku Islands in Indonesia, and are commonly used as a spice. Cloves are commercially harvested primarily in Indonesia, India, Madagascar, Zanzibar, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Tanzania.
Extraction is defined as a process that involves separating active plant or animal components from inactive ones using selective solvents. There are several extraction processes, including infusion, maceration, digestion, decoction, continuous hot extraction, solvent-solvent precipitation, and liquid-liquid extraction. Caffeine is extracted from coffee seeds through infusion by steeping the seeds in water. It is then isolated from the tea solution through liquid-liquid extraction using methylene chloride followed by evaporation of the solvent to yield caffeine.
Pharmacognosy is the study of medicines derived from natural sources. It deals with the physical, chemical, biochemical and biological properties of drugs from natural origins, as well as the search for new drugs. The history of pharmacognosy dates back to ancient civilizations in China, India, Egypt and Greece where plants were used medicinally before the beginning of the Christian era. Modern pharmacognosy developed between 1934-1960 due to events like the discovery of penicillin and isolation of compounds like reserpine. Today, pharmacognosy plays an important role in drug development through the isolation of active constituents, elucidation of their structures, and use of natural products as precursors for drug synthesis. Antipsychotic drugs, also known as neuroleptics, are used to treat psychotic disorders like schizophrenia. There are two main types - first generation "typical" antipsychotics that are associated with more extrapyramidal side effects, and second generation "atypical" antipsychotics that have fewer of these motor side effects. Antipsychotics work by blocking dopamine receptors in the brain, particularly in the mesolimbic pathway. They can have various adverse effects involving the cardiovascular, nervous, endocrine and other body systems. Proper management of these drugs requires monitoring for potential toxic reactions and drug interactions.
Gokharu is the dried ripe fruit of the Tribulus terrestris plant, which is distributed in warmer regions worldwide including India, Sri Lanka, and Tibet. It is based on the principle that "like cures like," meaning that a substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person can cure similar symptoms in a sick person when given in very low doses. Homeopathic remedies are prepared from plant, mineral, animal, diseased tissue, and other sources, and are believed to stimulate the body's natural healing abilities. Common homeopathic remedies include arnica, belladonna, and chamomilla. Homeopathy is considered a gentle, non-toxic approach to treatment.

Anemia is a condition defined by a decrease in red blood cells or hemoglobin in the blood, resulting in paleness and fatigue. This lowers the blood's ability to carry oxygen throughout the body. There are three main types of anemia caused by blood loss, decreased red blood cell production, or increased red blood cell breakdown. Symptoms include weakness, shortness of breath, and pale skin. Anemia is diagnosed through a complete blood count and microscopic examination of a blood smear. Causes include impaired red blood cell production, increased red blood cell destruction, blood loss, or fluid overload. Homeopathic treatments for anemia are individualized but may include remedies like Cinchona for anemia due to blood loss

Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune DiseaseHealth Advances
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.
