2. The State s Transportation System
One of the challenges that the Texas government is failing to keep up with is the
state s transportation system due to the increased population. From 2000 2010 the
population has grown by over 4 million people. As of now Texas also has the largest
transportation infrastructure in the nation. So can the state of Texaskeeps up with the
projected increased population of fifty million people by 2040? Or will the state cuts
corners and let the infrastructure fall by the weigh side? These are two of the
concerns that Texans want answers to. As member of our communities we have to
hold the TexasDepartment of Transportation accountable to their mission statement;
which is to provide safe and reliable transportation solutions in Texas. To get... Show

The truth is, Texans already spend more than they should on the Texas
transportation system. By failing to invest in highways, the cost is shifted to
consumers in the form of wasted time stuck in traffic, damage to vehicles,
accelerated tire wear, and increased likelihood of being in a serious accident (The
Cost). Drivers, truckers, visitors spend countless hours stuck in traffic, costing
businesses time and money, polluting the air, and the wear and tear of the roads
(Agency 8). Also due to congestion, costs the Texas economy 10.8 billion per year,
which they push onto the citizens through groceries and goods you buy that have
transportation cost. The average annual hours of delay a commuter has in a Texas
Metro area are at or above 37 hours. The city of Houston leads delays with about 50
hours per year. In 15 years if the transportation system is still underfunded could
rise up to 74 hours (The Cost 2). Every driver in Texas should know what the
differences that they are paying for the transportation system being underfunded
and well funded. Currently households are investing $232 per year, which comes
out costing drivers $6,095 in total vehicle use and maintenance cost. If drivers
invest an additional $279 reduces total vehicle cost to $4,228 and saves them
$1,558. An additional $402 more each year will also cut their cost to $3,652 and
save them $2,041. So raising highway investments will save drivers money in the
long run. Drivers all know that vehicle

Over nine months after Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 turned up gone in transit

There are several causes and negative effects of plane tragedy MH370 to Malaysia

4. The Virgins By Robert Herrick And His Coy Mistress By...
To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time by Robert Herrick and To His Coy Mistress
by Andrew Marvell, are two different, yet similar poems. While both are presented in
Carpe Diem form, each poem approaches seizing the day in alternative ways. Herrick
s poem is a caution to young, virgin women that they should make the most of the
moment, to find love now and not wait. Marvell s poem is directly addressing a
specific person, and slowly seducing them. Eventually declaring that they should act
immediately on their urges. These two poems have similar themes, but the one
constant throughout, is time.
The speakers use imagery and metaphors to convey the effects of time and the
transient prime of youth. Herrick s poem is crafted in four stanzas using a rhyming
scheme of ABAB, and is written in four quatrains. Beginning in his first stanza, the
speaker mentions of assembling young women and telling them to grab life and
live now. Herrick writes, Gather ye rosebuds while ye may / Old time is still a
flying / And this same flower that smiles today / Tomorrow will be dying (lines 1
4). The speaker uses the images of rosebuds to symbolize youth and beauty. Once
the flower peaks and blooms, its beauty will fade. So, too, will the beauty of
women as they grow older. Furthermore, in the second stanza, the speaker sets the
tone of the poem by writing, The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun / The high he s a
getting / The sooner will his race be run / And nearer he s to setting (5 8). The

In addition, the parties have a combined aggregate worldwide turnover of more than
EUR 5 billion, moreover, each of them has a communitywide turnover in excess of
EUR 250 million but none of the two has more than two third of their aggregate
communitywide turnover within one and the same Member State. For these reasons,
the case was considered to have a Community dimension and therefore, to be relevant.
The commission was not concerned about the entire activity of the two groups, but
focused its attention on the chocolate confectionery market and to a lesser extent, on
the sugar confectionery and chocolate drinks, where the two parties presented
overlapping activities, large market shares, and in some Member States, namely
Romania and Poland, the two were brands were regarded as close substitutes and no
other similar products were registered in the reference market.
The commission based its decision on the results on various economic analysis and
market research undertaken with the explicit purpose of assessing the market power
of the two group before and after the merger.
On 7 December 2009 Kraft Food proposed a first commitment package in order to

6. Marius s Life
Marius, a Romanian 8 year old boy, lived a life just as every other kid his age. He
attended school, played with his friends and his dog, and helped his family with
chores. Once the accident occurred, life changed for Marius although he was
always positive during his recovery process. Both of Marius s parents died during
the accident, however, he still had a large support system. This support came from
both Marius s older sister and brother who were not home at the time of the
accident. Also, the interns at the hospital provided a large amount of help to Marius
as did the interns parents and other family members. Shriners Hospital for Children
in Los Angeles as well as all of the support from teachers, home tutors, and the
translator, Teodora, made the entire recovery process possible. So even though
Marius did not have his parents, he still had an abundance of support and assistance.

was unable to blink. The doctors feared Marius would lose his sight so they had to

difficult for Marius to complete ADLs and it was months before he left bed and
attempted to walk. Therefore, this was a long, expensive process in order to
7. Black Spider Research Paper
Nothing can cause us to turn into a ninja faster than running into a web. The
thought of being anywhere near the vicinity of these little eight legged creatures can
cause fight or flight mode. Whether you choose to grab your shoe and kill both the
spider and everything around it or you would rather jump on a couch and
contemplate burning down the house, knowing what you re dealing with can help.
Safety First Pest Control is here to explain how to identify a dangerous spider. Study
these tips on different spiders and you ll be ready to take on whatever nature throws
at you.
Black Widow
The most well known, infamous and incredibly venomous crawlers, the Black
Widow is also easily identifiable. The large black body sports a red hourglass
shape or dot on the underside. This marker is a giveaway that you are dealing with
the Black Widow. If you can t see the belly though and don t feel like taking the
time to flip it over and examine (who takes the time to do that) then play it safe. If
the creature has a bulb like dark body then assume it s a Black Widow and take
necessary precautions. You will usually find them in dark places like under a bed
and/or near a stable source of heat. If bit, call an ambulance immediately.

The same is true for the brown recluse. This little sucker only has six as opposed to
the standard eight. Since the only person who is likely to stop and count their eyes

normally find them by accident like underneath a box or inside a pair of shoes you
haven t worn in months. The dull brown color makes them good at blending in with
surroundings but if you do find yourself close, take a quick look at the legs. The
recluse has smooth tentacles devoid of thick
8. Summary Of Email Phising
Email phishing, one scheme of internet scamming, is a problematic issue in society
as it causes millions of people to fall victim to identity theft and financial exploit.
Acts such as this could not be more apparent at The University of Alabama during
its 2013 2014 school term, when an email headlined New Year Upgrading surfaced
its way into the inboxes of UA students. In his article University OIT warns of
phishing scams for The Crimson White, author Josh Sigler cautions students of The
University of Alabamato be wary of false advertisement and to refrain from
providing personal information, if uncertain. Sigler attests why UA students should

Kairos refers to an audience, time, and place. Sigler s intended audiences are
obviously UA students with an addition to Crimson White readers, so what better
of a venue, such as The Crimson White, for Sigler to publicize his argument. The
Crimson White serves as a source for UA students to acquire information about all
the latest events and issues in order to keep in touch with campus activities. Sigler
utilizes The Crimson White because more than 15,000 papers are circulated on the
UA campus, therefore his claim is delivered and available to his projected
audience. Sigler chooses to publish his claim in The Crimson White newsletter
rather than a newsletter that is local or international, specifically because of its
relevance to UA students having greater significance on them, oppose to people
who do not attend The University of Alabama. The time frame Sigler chose to
address the email phishing issue served a great deal as well. Sigler addressed that
UA students should be cautious of email phishing in early January because the topic
of discussion was still a relevant issue since it took place in the fall; this action
demonstrates Sigler s persistence to grasp his audience
9. The Importance Of Stock Characters In Sense And...
Jane Austen s first book to be published was Sense and Sensibility. Austen s story
depicts the life of a family who loses everything because of the death of their father.
The father s wealth goes to his son, John Dashwood. Mr. Dashwood doesn t help his
sisters because his wife, Fannie, doesn t think it s a good idea. When all hope is lost,
Edward Ferrars enters the story and takes an interest in the eldest daughter, Elinor.
Throughout this story, Austen introduces many characters, some of which have
minor roles. Margaret Dashwood, Lucy Steele, and Mrs. Jennings are a few of the
characters that partake in minor roles, but have a huge importance to the plot. A
minor character tends to bring out traits in other characters. Margaret Dashwood is...

Jennings, Lucy Steele is another important character in the story. Lucy let s Elinor
know that she has been engaged to Edward Ferrars for five years. This creates
internal struggles with Elinor because she had loved Edward. Lucy, Elinor,
Marianne, Charlotte, and Mrs. Jennings all go to London for a trip right after
Elinor learns of Lucy s engagement. Marianne is hoping to meet John Willoughby
for an explanation and Lucy and Elinor are hoping to see Edward. While in
London, Lucy meets Robert Ferrars whom she finds to be an exceptional
gentleman. Lucy and Robert end up marrying which frees up Edward for Elinor. If
Lucy hadn t been a part in the story she would not have been able to meet Robert,
making Edward and Lucy engaged. Lucy had a very important role in the plot.
Einstein s butterfly theory shows how one little thing can change the outcome of
something completely. If anything had changed in Austen s story nothing would be
the same. Each minor character that is included has a purpose to her story and they
are all important. If one character is taken out then there wouldn t be as much insight
to the other characters and there would be drastic changes to the original plot. Austen
does a great job at controlling her characters to give each one meaning and
10. Ethical Issues In A Hospital
For this assignment, I spent time volunteering at Mercy Downtown, helping at the
main information desk. While I was there, I assisted visitors in finding patients by
looking up their room number, directed patients and visitors to the correct area of
the hospital, and delivered flowers to rooms that had been dropped off. A paid
employee also accompanied me while there, as volunteers are not allowed to
actually look up patient information via the online portal, but I could call a different
help desks within the hospital to ask other paid employees to look patients up for me
if needed. The experience made me realize that there are so many little unthought of
components to making a hospital as big as Mercy be efficient for everyone. The

I have learned that no matter how many times people tell me not to judge a person
by their appearance, I have grown up in a world where we still do it daily
regardless of how hard we try not to. I go back and forth thinking about whether it
s right or wrong to so openly give out patient room numbers but in the end, I think
it s really only fair to do so. I think there could be changes, if possible phone up to a
room and ask the patient if they know so and so, and if they want them to come to
their room. Another option might be calling the nurses station or something on the
floor, but I can only imagine how crazy that would drive employees who are trying
to do their jobs. I can guess that most health care related organizations come across
many situations and circumstances that could sway between ethical and unethical,
and the decision about what to do is probably very difficult. It has been made very
clear to me now, as to why hospitals have boards of directors with members from
different backgrounds, so that there is really someone pulling from every angle to try
and think about all the options to help make a sound

12. The Cold Sassy Tree Research Paper
Inventions have affected and changed many people s lives. It is a constant use in
humans lifestyles, and they can adapt to technological devices very quickly. The
Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns, described how people living in a productive
time came to know of new technology, and how it shaped the people of Cold Sassy.
An invention that became known back then, was the telephone. Its use was to
communicate with others instantly and efficiently. A current invention that affected
people globally, was the cellphone. It can send messages and call anywhere he or she
goes. These technical inventions have built our world today.

everyone enjoyed having one at home. Later on, in 1992, SMS or text messaging

but Papworth made it possible. Now, people could send messages to their loved
ones, and they didn t have to call. It was a faster way of reaching others through

and caught many people s attention. The Iphone was more advanced than any other
cell phone. It allowed access to sending emails, the internet, and social media. It has
many apps such as, a Safari engine, weather, news, banking, reminders, and other
helpful tips. These are some of the reasons why cell phones have affected many lives
of today.
In conclusion, inventions have changed many lives of the people. In the past,
Alexander Bell had invented the first telephone for better communication, and he had
inspired many great inventors. Those creators would then invent efficient and rapid
ways of communication for people to talk with others at home or anywhere they
travel. The first telephone has evolved since the time Bell invented it. Now, many
people have access to useful information, and it has become one of the world s
important creations of all
13. Indian Caste System
The Indian caste system describes the system of social stratification and social
restrictions in India in which social classes are defined by thousands of endogamous
hereditary groups, often termed jДЃtis or castes. Within a jДЃti, there exist
exogamous groups known as gotras, the lineage or clan of an individual. In a handful
of sub castes such as Shakadvipi, endogamy within a gotra is permitted and
alternative mechanisms of restricting endogamy are used (e.g. banning endogamy
within a surname).
The Indian caste system involves four castes and outcasted social groups. Although
generally identified with Hinduism, the caste system was also observed among
followers of other religions in the Indian subcontinent, including some groups of

Hart stated that the earliest Tamil texts show the existence of what seems definitely
to be caste, but which antedates the Brahmins and the Hindu orthodoxy . He believes
that the origins of the caste system can be seen in the belief system that developed
with the agricultural civilization , and was later profoundly influenced by the
Brahmins and the Brahmanical religion . These early Tamil texts also outline the
concept of equality. Saint Valluvar has stated pirapokkum ella uyirkkum , which
means all are equal at birth . Likewise, Saint Auvaiyaar has stated that there are only
two castes in the world: those who contribute negatively and those who contribute
positively. From these statements, it can be inferred that the caste system is a socio
economic class system.
[edit] Caste and social status
Traditionally, although the political power lay with the Kshatriyas, historians
portrayed the Brahmins as custodians and interpreters of Dharma, who enjoyed much
prestige and many advantages.[17]
Fa Hien, a Buddhist pilgrim from China, visited India around 400 AD. Only the lot of
the Chandals he found unenviable; outcastes by reason of their degrading work as
disposers of dead, they were universally shunned... But no other section of the
population were notably disadvantaged, no other caste distinctions attracted comment
from the Chinese pilgrim, and no oppressive caste
14. Power In J. R. Tolkien s The Lord Of The Rings
J.R.R. Tolkien s Lord of the Rings saga and Peter Jackson s movie renditions have
been accused of including many complicated or otherwise controversial social and
cultural themes such as orientalism, racism, sexism and homosexuality. Many
scholars over the decades have debated whether or not if it was Tolkien that harbored
these feelings, or if it was just his characters. More recently many people have
brought up that Jackson blatantly ignored significant aspects of the original story.

pertain to discourses involving Orientalism. Her argument showing that there are

They travel, fight, and survive together while constantly being in danger. Despite
the fellowship being very close, no two characters were closer than Samwise

feelings of affection for one another (Kaufman). He also states The homoerotic
aspects of this motif of male partnership are strikingly evident in Tolkien s novel, in
which Sam is portrayed as much more than just a close friend to Frodo (Kaufman). I
do not believe this is true. Tolkien had explained in multiple letters that the
relationship between Sam and Frodo was inspired from his experiences with
comrades in World War I, which were most likely not homosexual in nature. Kaufman
is reaching for something that just isn t there. War and life threatening situations
bring together people in intense ways. The relationship Sam and Frodo has is
platonic. You can love someone with your whole being and be affectionate without
sexual desires. Other than almost forcing a homosexual related connection between
the fellowship, namely Sam and Frodo, his essay does contain interesting aspects
and views but I do not support his thesis or believe that he is
15. My Community Service
Going to many different private schools during my elementary and middle school
years, I had the opportunity to do many special things in my community most
students did not have access to. Though all of the schools were very different, they
all had the common value of service before self and gave their students numerous
ways to help the schooland community. From visiting nursing homes, to playing
with the band at school fundraisers, to being paired up as mentors with younger
students, I always had my hands busy providing someone in need. One of the
biggest parts of my community service was visits to those in assisted living. Those
visits taught me an immense amount about the importance of reaching out,
especially to those who have been isolated from the outside world. Just the act of
visiting and singing Christmas carols, or simply talking to them brought so much
joy to the entire facility and improved the residents days. Though I may not have had
the most polished singing voice, the happiness our miniature concerts brought far
surpassed the embarrassment I felt scratching out the notes. On one occasion, our
little group managed to get an entire facility participating in an exciting rendition of

16. Solaris And Memento Analysis
Elizabeth Loftus is a psychological scientist who discusses memories, specifically
false memories, in her TED Talk How reliable is your memory? Ultimately, Loftus
explains that it is possible to not only have false memories, but it is also possible to
feed people misinformation that in return alters one s memory. This concept of false
memories, and more broadly one s remembered past, is evident in a few films we
have studied in class. In both Solaris (Soderbergh) and Memento, improving one s
self knowledge was dependent on dealing with regret and guilt about one s
remembered past. Solaris follows the protagonist, Chris Kelvin, on his journey to
the space station with the goal of helping the scientists with an unspecified
experience aboard the station. Shortly after his arrival, Kelvin experiences the
strange experience firsthand when his deceased wife Rheya appears in the middle
of the night. At first, Kelvin believes she is a figment of his imagination, or perhaps
a dream, but soon he discovers she is real. Kelvin quickly decides to rid the station
of Rheya by sending her off in a separate skyrocket; yet, to Kelvin s surprise Rheya
materializes again that next night. In contrast, the second timeRheya emerges, Kelvin
decides not to kill her, but rather begins to question her existence. It is argued that
Solaris is able to reconstruct deceased ones from the memories of the scientists
aboard the station. This raises the following question: are the duplicates
materializing on the space station real people? Gordon has an unwavering opinion
that these creatures are not human, and thus, should be eradicated. However,
Kelvin has already resurrected his love with the duplicate of Rheya, and believes
he could be happier living a life with her. Surprisingly, it is Rheya that indicates she
is not the original woman Kelvin is remembering, or dreaming about. Instead, she is
a reconstruction of Kelvin s remembered past of her. Kelvin s memories dictate how
the duplicate Rheya speaks, moves, listens, and feels. This is problematic because as
Loftus explains, memory can be unreliable. To improve his own self knowledge
Kelvin must deal with the guilt of having hurt Rheya by leaving her and potentially
leading her to

detail the procedure to be followed by the constitution drafting body. Elections for the
296 seats assigned to the British Indian provinces were completed by August 1946.
The Constituent Assembly first met and began work on 9 December 1946.
(Indian Independence Act 1947): The Indian Independence Act, which came into
force on 18 July 1947, divided the British Indian territory into two new states of India
and Pakistan, which were to be dominions under the Commonwealth of Nations until
their constitutions were in effect. The Constituent Assembly was divided into two for
the separate states.
The Act relieved the British Parliament of any further rights or obligations towards
India or Pakistan, and granted sovereignty over the lands to the respective Constituent
Assemblies. When the Constitution of India came into force on 26 January 1950, it
overturned the Indian Independence Act. India ceased to be a dominion of the British
Crown and became a sovereign democratic republic.

19. How Does Darcy Mature
One of the hardest things to understand as you mature is that you will be wrong a
lot. What is even harder, though, is admitting to yourself that you are incorrect, and
intentionally changing yourself based on new information. The novel Pride and
Prejudice revolves around Elizabeth Bennet and her interactions with Mr. Darcy, a
man she originally takes to be rude and cold, but later realizes is generous and well
mannered. This realization is part of her coming into maturity. Though she appears as
twenty one in the novel, she still only truly comes into womanhood in the moment
she admits she was wrong about Mr. Darcy after reading his explanatory letter. More
than half of the novel shows Elizabeth hating the man she met at a Netherfield ball.

21. A Reflection On The Church Of Santa Rosa
I went to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Santa Rosa, California. The
church is located in the old movie theater in downtown Santa Rosa. I parked in a
nearby parking garage, grateful for the free parking on Sunday, and walked down
the street toward the church. I knew that I had arrived at the correct place because
of the large granite sign with the name Unitarian Universalist Congregation Santa
Rosa. There were many people standing outside talking to one another. I was
immediately greeted by a church member who welcomed me and showed me to
the main entrance. As I walked through the door, I noticed a rainbow flag above
the main entrance, and could not help but begin thinking of the differences
between this church and the one I was raised in. The first thing I noticed as I
entered the first room was the pictures on the walls. They were not of gods or
deities, but of ethnic minorities who had lived in the local community and had a
positive impact. Underneath each photo was a brief description of who the photo
represented. I continued walking down the main hall and it ended in a large semi
circular room with a kitchen nook in one corner. They had many chairs available
chairs and tables to sit and socialize. Another friendly church member approached
me, noticing a new face in the congregation, and asked if I was new. After I briefly
explained why I was there, he told me that he was one of the reverends and had just
finished conducting the nine o clock service. He

Amoco began its life as a part of John D. Rockefeller s powerful Standard Oil Trust.
Incorporated in 1889 as the Standard Oil Company (Indiana), the company s first
challenge was to build a refinery in Whiting, Indiana, specially designed to handle
high sulphur crude oil from a field near Lima, Ohio.
In 1912, a year after dissolution of the Rockefeller Trust, company scientist William
Burton and his colleague, Robert Humphreys, received a patent for the thermal
cracking process that doubled the yield of gasoline from a barrel of crude oil, while
also boosting its octane rating. Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, Standard Oil of
Indiana remained the company s name until April of 1985 when it became Amoco,
reflecting a growing international presence.

She says: Being lazy is when you are unwilling to do something while procrastinating
is when you intend to do something but you re just postponing the work. By
distinguishing these two words, Jill makes it very clear to the readers that
procrastination and laziness do not represent the same thing. Procrastination is not as
bad as being lazy. This comparison shows Jill acknowledges that there is a
misunderstanding of procrastination. Therefore, knowing the difference between
procrastinating and being lazy is very crucial in redefining the word procrastination .
Here, clarifying any confusion by using comparison helps develop the idea of what
does it mean to procrastinate, which contributes to the main points of this essay. To
explain why procrastination is not unacceptable, Jill not only uses comparison but
also effectively uses questions to further illustrate why procrastination is not

27. Problems Within Education Today s Education Essay
Problems Within Education Today
For my extra credit assignment I would like to research, and write about the
problems in education today. According to chapter eight in the book, worldwide one
in five adults can not read or write, two thirds of them being women. The problems
we are facing in education can be linked to other social problems such as poverty or
unemployment, seeing that those who graduate college make up twenty percent of
the unemployment rate, compared to the forty percent of the unemployment rate in
people with less than a high school degree. Another issue facing education is the
inequality of schools and school districts. School districts with a lower
socioeconomic status must spend more money on things like maintaining the school.
Thus, leaving less money to spend on bettering the education of the children, which
in turn leads to higher rates of drop outs, and lower rates of college attendance.
Therefore, leaving them more likely to be unemployed or live in poverty. Finally,
another major problem facing the American education system is the lack of financial
support. One survey revealed that the most common thing to happen due to budget
cuts is to increase the class size, which has been directly correlated with poorer
academic achievement. The problems facing education are plentiful, most of which
are grounded in financial woes. These effects can be devastating to the lives of the
children it affects or society as a whole, due to the statistics correlating
28. Democracy And The European Union
Introduction:
Democracy in the European Union (EU) has been described by academics ranging
from a classical case of a gradual de democratisation through integration , to opaque,
technocratic, and distant from its citizens . The EU began as an economic union
with 6 initial members for integrating Franco German production of coal and steel
following Robert Schuman s proposal in the 1950s. It has now become a progressive
political union, experiencing many innovations and changes in numerous fields right
from the ECSC to the Lisbon treaty. Today, the EU has 28 members representing
almost 500 million people. The expansion has resulted in the uprising of new
complex problems, democratic deficit being the most pivotal. Christopher Lord
defined democratic deficit as insufficiently representative of, or accountable to, the
nations and the people of Europe . The phrase was first used by David Marquand in
1979, referring to the then European Economic Community. Democratic deficit in
relation to the European Union, refers to a perceived lack of accessibility to the
ordinary citizen, or lack of representation of the ordinary citizen, and lack of
accountability of European Union institutions. The complex and distant nature of the
European institutions have contributed to this argument. This essay discusses the
European institutions involved in the legislative process before going on to evaluate
the role played by national parliament to combat the deficit, taking into

In Fisher v Texas, the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of special
admissions programs; but this could only be done under strict judicial scrutiny, and
with narrowly tailored provisions. Two separate questions stem from this: What does
narrowly tailoring mean in light of the 14th Amendment? And how can other
universities implement admission standards that are constitutionally permissible?
Short Answer Grutter and Gratz established that race could be a factor in the
admissions process. But it must pass strict scrutiny. At first blush, this might appear
discriminatory. But if there is a compelling government interest, then it is not covered
by the Equal Protection Clause, in the Fourteenth Amendment. So to pass strict

This is because schools have a rational reason for excluding certain individuals. It
cannot accept every student, so schools must have the ability to sift through
applicants. For example, test scores, GPA, extracurricular activities, and the like, can
be used when considering an applicants file. In short, this in no way perverts or
violates the Equal Protection Clause; schools have a reasonable interest in denying
certain applicants because they cannot admit every student that applies. Discussion of
Cases: How the Court Applied Strict Scrutiny When a University implements special
admissions requirements, like race and ethnicity, the Court called for the most
exacting judicial scrutiny when reviewing cases of this nature (Bakke v U.S.). For
this, the rational basis test is faulty. Strict scrutiny is prescribed to examine race
cases. The Court visited this topic in two separate cases: Grutter v Bollinger and
Gratz v Bollinger. Grutter examined admissions requirements for Michigan Law
School, and Gratz examined Michigan undergraduate requirements. Once again,
emphasis was placed on applying strict scrutiny when race plays a factor in
admissions. The court also established the need for narrowly tailored provisions when
implementing such programs. In Grutter, the court re emphasized the fact that
cultivating a diverse student body was a compelling state interest. And according to
Chief Justice Rehnquist, student body diversity is a compelling state

Biological (macroinvertebrates and wildlife) and Chemicals characteristics (pH,
dissolved oxygen, phosphates, nitrates, etc.) as well as physical observations (amount
of forested buffers, wetlands, etc.) Overall it was concluded that the health of the
water was good to excellent. What was found was that many of the
macroinvertebrates found in the water were sensitive or facultative, meaning the
water quality was good enough for them to live in. Also, the level of ph, temperature,
dissolved oxygen, phosphates, nitrates, and turbidityshowed that the water quality
was good. Finally, while we were canoeing down the Susquehanna River,

Underwater grasses, or Elodea, was observed as well. This wide variety of life is a
good indicator of the water s health.
The chemical characteristics observed and documented were pH, temperature,
phosphate, nitrate, turbidity, and dissolved oxygen. Each of these chemical levels
were documented and found differently. Most were found using a kit or a device.
The numbers found, would tell us how polluted the stream was and how much
nutrients were in the water. Each chemical has a scale for telling what a good level
is and what a bad level is. If an excess amount of nutrients was found in the water,
algae could be formed. When algae is formed it blocks sunlight from shining into the
water, which creates dead zones. This is called eutrophication. A dead zone is an area
where there is no life. This can cause major problems like population issues and
more. If the algae continues to grow in the river, the whole body of water can die
out, and people as well as other organisms are very dependent on the Susquehanna.
While on the river though, there was an absence of algae, so sunlight is able to get
through the water, which is very good.
Physical characteristics are important as well. While canoeing, many things were
observed and notices. Tires were seen at the bottom of the river. This is most likely
because of the highway that runs on both sides or the river, and over it on bridges
too. Because of the highway, there is a high risk

The most arguably abused animal in the world is the chicken. The common
commercial way of how chickens are factory farmed is inhumane to the animals,
because of the way the chickens are treated. Chickens are given insufficient living
conditions in areas that make it impossible for them to live enjoyable lives, as well
as the amount of birds contained in the buildings. The sake of the fowls health and
growth is cruelty altered, as chemicals and mutations are done to the them
throughout their time on the farms. A chicken that is hatched for the use of a

Certainly it would serve well for counselors to be well versed on the spiritual abuse
aspects that some LGBT persons may have experienced and be sensitive to those
issues. In doing a history, be aware of the beliefs the client has been exposed to.
More recently, LGBE members have new (or newly reinforced) fears of openly
practicing the lifestyle they identify with. As I write this, a clear indication of radical
Islam law was acted out in Orlando, FL. Omar Mateen, while claiming allegiance to
ISIS, (i.e. removing the homosexual infidels from the face of the earth) killed 49

Counselors need to be aware of the mental and emotional trauma and fears events
like this place on the LGBT community, and find effective ways to help them cope
with those fears. It may take time to build up trust in order to get them to open up and
we need to be understanding through the process.

relationships workshops, she is mostly concern with learning communication rules.
The communication rules are very helpful for the relationship to last for a long
period of time. Learning those rules will help people give more to the spouse they
love. People communicate every day, learning how to talk to each other could be very
helpful for a healthy relationship. By implementing the right techniques to resolve
conflicts and start understanding each other will help couples achieve their goals.
Fallowing Page?s rules gives couples ability to resolve conflicts, arguments and
understand what they might want from their life. Susan Page gets her expertises from
workshops discussions, interviews with happily married couples and her own
personal experiences. Page statistically found out that many couples have poor
knowledge on how to communicate with
42. It Is Voting Season Again
Since the origins of the first constitutional convention calling for the alteration of the
constitution, through our American history we have seen the rise of the two party
system. Initially however not officially through the opposition of the ratification of
the new constitution, we saw the first true political schism in the debate of the
constitution s ratification. Creating the birth of Federalist and Anti Federalist
movement. With the simple contrasting beliefs such as the opposition to a strong
centralized government (Anti Federalists) came the growth of those others which we
still fight for or against today. However we can call such divisions within our history
the baby steps onto to what would become a natural phenomena of the two party
system. While not during Washington s first electionbut not limited to his re election,
within the sidelines of his presidency some tension between Jefferson and
Hamilton began to arise. The beginning of the butting heads of Federalists v.
Republicans and leading to the eventually unfolding what would be the
Republicans v. Democrats. Through the power placed within America s traditional
two party system, unlike many countries they are able to keep the equilibrium or a
control of their political peoples and voters to be better able to transact new policies
and reforms while still keeping each other at a check. For years there were
appearances of new parties beyond the horizon and even now there still are, but due
to the their
43. Middle East Respiratory Syndrome
Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is a respiratory illness that can affect
anyone and is terrorizing the Middle East and other countries. It was previously
called Novel Coronavirus (nCoV). The illness affects the lungs and breathing
tubes. It is caused by a virus called the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome
Coronavirus (MERS CoV). The disease was first spotted in Saudi Arabia sometime in
September 2012. However, MERS CoV was probably around long before 2012. This
illness is very different from other coronaviruses found in people. About 3 to 4 out
of every 10 people with MERS have died. Most patients who have died, had an
underlying medical condition. MERS is a very serious illness that everyone needs to
be aware of its presence (ECDC,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are two different kinds of lab tests, Molecular tests and Serology tests. A
Molecular test is looking for evidence of an active infection of MERS CoV.
Molecular tests are used to diagnose patients who are thought to be infected with
MERS CoV because of their symptoms. Real time reverse transcription polymerase
chain reaction (rRT PCR) assays are molecular tests that are used to find specific
RNA that come from the virus in a host s body. This test converts the viral RNA
into its DNA. After it is converted, you look at one of MERS CoV s DNAs and see
if it matches. If it does, this is a positive test and the patient is infected with MERS.
The success of the test depends on several things. These factors include the
experience of the lab workers, the environment (no contamination), and the condition
and type of the specimens being tested. When doing this test, multiple specimens
are recommended to get to best result. However, a serology test is used in a
different way. It is made to detect previous infection in patients may have had the
virus. To do this, the serology test looks for antibodies to MERS CoV. Antibodies are
proteins produced by the body s immune system to attack and kill viruses, bacteria,
and other microbes during infection. If the test finds antibodies to MERS CoV it
proves that the patient has previously been infected with the virus and now has an
immune response. It has one screening test and two confirmatory tests to find
antibodies to MERS CoV. The screening part is called enzyme linked immunosorbent
assay (ELIZA) and the confirmatory tests are called immunofluorescence assay (IFA)
and microneutralhzation assay to check for the positive result. (Middle East

44. John Steinbeck Conflict
The Pearl, a novella written by John Steinbeck, is a story that deals with the
evolution and oppression of the main characters, Kino and Juana. The story takes
place in La Paz, Mexico, a place where the poor and rich live in it seems like
everyone lives in peace, which changes when the main character of the story, Kino
finds something that may change his world. Kino is a poor man that lives with his
wife,Juana, and son, Coyotito, Kino found a pearl in the beginning of the story that
had the power of changing Kino and his family s life forever. However, they
become oppressed as they realize that not everyone is as happy to have a valuable
pearl that Kino and Juana are. The main conflict of the story is the internal conflict of

An example of Kino and his family being target by those who mean harm to them
is when Kino, Juana, and Coyotito were all sleeping at night when all of a sudden
Kino was attacked by a dark one outside of his brush house. Kino, Juana, and rest of
the village were coming back from the pearl buyers who stated the pearl had no
value. Kinso was disappointed, when he then walked out of the brush house, when
Juana heard the attack. Kino lay on the ground, struggling to rise, and there was no
one near distances (56). After these sentences, the author proceeds to tell the
audience that Kino can feel the evil around him. This piece of evidence shows that
Kino is a victim in which he was being bright for have a pearl that could possibly
change his life. After Kino s beating, Juana began to realize that the pearl is evil
and will curse her family. Her thinking then leads to events later in the story. The
oppression Kino received creates a long lasting taste of the pearl in the family s
mouths. While Kino, Juana, and Juan are realizing that the pearl is evil, the pearl
begins to change Kino, and for the most part, the
