External Factors Affecting The Chinese Airlines Industry
EXTERNAL FACTORS THAT AFFECT CHINAAIRLINES INDUSTRY
Gong Liting (Jacqtin)
With the development of the society, the level of people living standard has improved a lot. Airplane
becomes a popular transportation in recent years. No matter travel or business, more and more people
chose airplane to travel which is due to its time saving and security. Therefore, more and more airline
companies have come out. Under the fierce competition with the domestic and international airlines
market, China Airlines has to be competitive in order to stay at the leading position. An analysis of
these factors of China Airlines industry is essential to the strategic management and implementation of
the project. The positive and negative effect on the projects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

China has a large and young population. It not only created many opportunities for airlines to attract
customers but also provided cheap man power. Beside that, airlines industry has concern about social
characteristic of enterprise as researching the market. The social factors will divide the community
into groups of customers depend on the average life expectancy, health status, eating habit, average
income, lifestyle, knowledge, psychology and living conditions. That way China Airlines can offer
customers the best quality services. Along with the growth of economy, culture also changes
accordingly with morden life. To those who have high or even average income and care more about
saving time, aviation transport is the right choice. Meanwhile, in recent year, China is considered safe
country and is one of the top acttactive destinations in the world that has made the number of tourists
visit China increasing, especially tourists from Asia, Europe and America (China inbound tourism in
2015, 2015). Tourism development led to increased aviation revenue. One more aspect of the social
factors is that many people have considerd using air transportation as one of the ways to express and
assert themselves which creates favorable condition for airlines industry to approach the subconsicous
and the needs of custumers. It is proven by the fact that China Airlines had a good result with a

Marijuana Research Paper
The Legalization of Marijuana
Lately it seems that drug policy and the war on drugs has been in the headlines continuously. Policies
in United States government takes against illegal drugs are coming into question. Marijuana laws have
been enacted since 1937, that s over 75 years of prohibition. But in 1996, California passed
Proposition 215, legalizing the use of prescription medical marijuana. Just like the failed attempt of
alcohol prohibition, marijuana is now rising as the most popular drug in America. Marijuana is the
most commonly used drug in the United States. However, it is an illegal substance. It could be used
for medical purposes but how will it be kept from being distributed illegally?

That s because the Long term marijuana abuse can lead to addiction; that is, compulsive drug seeking
and abuse despite the known harmful effects upon functioning in the context of family, school, work,
and recreational activities. Even though Marijuana isn t a physical addiction(your body NOW needs
the drug to survive) but its a mental addiction. Marijuana users feel like they need to smoke just to get
through the day, so they can enjoy life, which is a contradiction, Marijuana is a depressant causing you
to feel drowsy. People who claim Marijuana isn t an addictive drug, they re wrong. About 9 percent of
people who use marijuana become dependent on it. It may not seem like a lot but the global number of
people who used cannabis at least once in 2007 is estimated to be between 143 and 190 million
people.
It is time for cannabis to become legal. Galloping polls show that 50% of the U.S. population agrees
with the use of marijuana. In 1965, 1 million Americans have tried weed. In 1972, that number jumped
to 24 million Americans. These are hardly criminals, they are CEOs, farmers, singers and song
writers, tax paying citizens being forced to use their weed beneath the law. Every 37 seconds,
someone in America is arrested for marijuana related charges, 98% of those arrest are people just
holding. Americans should not suffer for outdated laws. It s obvious there are

The Modern Plague Of Overpopulation
Unlike plagues of the dark ages or contemporary diseases we do not understand, the modern plague of
overpopulation is soluble by means we have discovered and with resources we possess. What is
lacking is not sufficient knowledge of the solution but universal consciousness of the gravity of the
problem and education of the billions who are its victim. This was said by Martin Luther King, Jr on
May 5, 1966. If this was said almost 49 years ago by one of the greatest leaders of American history,
why hasn t the issue of overpopulation been solved yet? Simply because we lack the universal
consciousness of the serious issues overpopulation bring and the education required on how to prevent
it. The world just can t support every single human being if we continue to ignore the issue. So what
would happen globally if the demand for natural resources is greater than the supply? There will be
conflicts and wars, environmental degradation and climate change. In addition to having a high
demand for natural resources and a low supply, it will also cause a rise in unemployment and raise the
cost of living.
There will be many wars and conflicts to come due to fact that there just won t be enough resources
for everybody. Michael Klare, professor of peace and world security studies at Hampshire College,
and the author, most recently, of The Race for What s Left: The Global Scramble for the World s Last
Resources, informs us that there have been a total of six global conflicts that have

Cesar Chavez Struggle In The Fields Analysis
SSCI 100 Assignment #2
The Struggle in the Fields has always been a controversial issue. In the PBS series, we get to learn
how many obstacles came along, when many Filipino farm workers along with Mexican American
workers began to demand a change in the fields.
The struggle in the fields was a movement that was primarily started as a strike in 1965 by Filipino
farm workers in Coachella, California than it was led by Cesar Chavez throughout the central valley,
they demanded better working conditions from the Growers. Many Mexican American farm workers
in Delano, California started to walk off the fields, refusing to pick grapes until the demands they had
were heard. The workers were tired of inhuman treatment and the poor working conditions, ... Show

Their faith allowed them to feel stronger when the movement was taking place, it allowed them to
fight in several different ways. The movement was already in the fifth month and they had not seen
any type of change, this was when Cesar Chavez decided to start a peregrinacion to Sacramento. His
goal was to recruit or inspire as many people so they could join the movement and have a louder
voice. This brought an opportunity to take their voices all around the San Joaquin valley, they saw the
valley as a place that had been full of limitations for them and the peregrinacion made the limitations
disappear, they were able to surpass those walls, and as they walked throughout many towns more and
more people became sympathetic to their cause and joined them on this journey. When they were on
the peregrinacion their mornings began with the faith they had held they went to mass, after they
would begin to walk to the next town, following a sacred image of La Virgen de Guadalupe it gave
them hope. His nonviolence policy also had a lot to give to the movement, as years pass many of the
farm workers became frustrated at the fact that they had not seen any changes, they began to talk
about using violence against the growers, this was when Cesar Chavez began to worry about the
things they could do, and he took matters into his own hands. In 1968 he started a

Christopher Stojanowski Summary
The first article, The Bioarchaeology of Identity in Spanish Colonial Florida: Social and Evolutionary
Transformation Before, During, and After the Demographic Collapse, by Christopher M. Stojanowski,
Stojanowski states that he uses a biological approach and population genetic analysis to reconstruct
the biological changes from the 16th and 17th century in La Florida. He says that his approach is
based on the potential contributions to an anthropological study in order to better identify and
construct transformations in La Florida (Stojanowski 2005: 417). He continues to explain his purpose
of the study and what he was emphasising his research. Stojanowski discusses three themes,

the Washo tribe. Of the 34 samples taken from the Miwok, 7 haplotypes were observed. These 7 types

they primarily represent haplogroups B and D as well. There was an exception, however, one of the
Northern Paiute members fits into haplogroup A. Some of the Northern Paiute and Washo group fit
into the category of haplogroup C, but only a small percentage. While haplogroups B and D

Explain Where Most People In The United Kingdom
1. Explain where most people in the United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, and Italy live based on
location, climate, trade? (12 Points) In the United Kingdom, I know most people live in major cities.
The North Atlantic Current warms the waters around the country creating the Marine West Coast
Climate which prevents any ice from being formed, so ports are open all year, which makes trade easy.
Most Russians will live in major cities on the western side of the Russia, because of the warm climate.
Unlike the west, eastern Russia is covered in permafrost and the Arctic Ocean is frozen parts of the
year, so trade is difficult and dangerous. Since the Rhine River flows through the eastern part of
Germany, eastern Germany is more densely populated than western Germany, because the Rhine
River is used to trade goods among many different countries. Also, the winters are not as harsh in the
east than in the west. In Italy, which is a peninsula shaped like a boot, most people live on the coast,
because the Apennine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

is September 15. Instead of waiting an extra year, Teigen was put in a early. This only became a
problem when Teigen was asked to be put in two years ahead in math instead of just one. The only
issue was the fact that technically she already was. My point about all of this, is the fact that she isn t
only advanced in math, but technically all the other subjects too. So school wise she is perceived as a
genius. When she does a math assignment, she will get everything right. On tests, she is the one who

typical two paged essay, it is a kick butt 6 paged essay. (Unless the essay is limited to two pages, then

Southwest Airlines And Lincoln Electric Company
About Southwest Airlines and Lincoln Electric Company: (Questions 1.a and 1.b):
a. What are the objectives of each company s approach to benefits and services? I believe that the first
step here is to go through the actual approach of Southwest Airlines and Lincoln Electric Company in
respect to the workers benefits and services. Nevertheless, both these particular companies do in fact
have complete dissimilar approaches to motivate and encourage their workers. Here is a few examples
that Lincoln Electric Company believes in:
They believe in making consumers feel accountable to the actual success of the company, which can
be done by connecting the compensation of the workers to the achievement of the company as a
whole.

Lincoln Electric Company also believed in a lean labor force to lessen workers hours as the demand
dropped and then compensated for that with overtime hours in periods of busy demand, where the
workers could make more wages.
Here are examples of Southwest Airlines approach to motivating and encouraging the workers that
was in fact more than just financial benefits.
For instance, Southwest Airlines believe that the payment in salary would bring the workers to work
on time, make them work for their allotted time. However, the problem was what how to make their
workers enjoy the work they do each day and be satisfied about it. So, Southwest felt as if the only
means to do so was to stimulate motivation and accordance with the company as a whole. Also,
Southwest made their company a better place in which to work in that would draw attention to the
workers and keep them content/satisfied as well.
Southwest Airlines felt as if the workers who actually went out of their way to aid customers, did in
fact, deserve a public praise or hand shake. So each and every month Southwest s magazine Spirit
would printout a story or article of one special worker who went out of their way to deliver the
best/exceptional customer satisfaction.
It also has the greater number of Couples working in any company, which made the company more
like a complete family.

Urban Politics Of The Brazil
Urban politics of poverty in Brazil have been highly publicized over the past few years. In large part,
this is due to capital spending on the creation and renovation of stadiums for the World Cup in 2014
and the Summer Olympics in 2016. Imagine waking up every morning and walking outside to slum
like conditions. Right next to those slum like conditions are brand new athletic stadiums that will
primarily used for about a month. It must be infuriating seeing public money be spent on flashy
buildings, meanwhile, homes, parks, schools, and more are not given nearly enough funding that is
required for complacency. Yet, much of what an individual sees may be interpreted differently. These

Urban politics in Brazil happen to be the exact reason why housing, transportation, inner city crime,
and more happen to occur in the favelas. Brazil is suffering from inconsistent political agendas which
ultimately, has created collective effort by citizens to riot against uneven development. All throughout
Brazil they built new state of the art stadiums, meanwhile there was a massive issue of poverty
occurring. Favelas in Brazil can be found throughout the country. Most famously, Rochina, a favela in
Rio De Janeiro sits massively entrenched on a hill in between a mountain range. Just below Rochina
lies Rio s developed downtown area. Maracanã, a local stadium in Brazil that was subject to much
criticism, just miles away from Rochina was renovated heavily to be the standard for all stadiums.
Accord to NPR, further outcry embellished when a brand new stadium in Manaus was built. Manaus
is located in the middle of the Amazonas state (in the Amazon Rainforest) and it is only accessible by
boat or plane. That is how far out of the way this city is. Yet, Brazil decided to invest in a brand new
stadium in the middle of the Amazon Rainforest rather than invest in its people. There is increasing
hope that the arena will draw future investors, businesses, and home developers/renovators to the area.
However, it is unlikely that this occurs quickly if at all. Amazonas is amongst the poorest states in
Brazil, which infers that

The History of LG
LG was born as the Lak Hui Chemical Industrial Co. in 1947. It was founded by Mr. In hwoi Koo for
the manufacture of cosmetic creams. Finding that there were no independent manufacturers capable of
supplying bottle caps needed for packaging the cream, Lak Hui Chemical set up its own facilities and
utilized the excess capacity of its injection molding machines to manufacture small consumer products
based in plastic. This led to an entry into the manufacture of plastics components for
telecommunication and electrical companies presaging LG s entry into the telecommunications
business. In fortifying its access to feedstock for plastics manufacture, the company moved into oil
refining and later into shipping to transport crude oil. It was in 1958 that the Goldstar Co. (currently
LG Electronics) was first established to consolidate expansion in the fast growing area of plastics.

The Measures against Drunk Driving
Should drink drive limit? include: arguments, data analysis, economic effects, and social effects
environmental effects. Drunk driving over the years has led to many atrocities; traffic congestions,
accidents, mishaps, unruly words exchanged and on the other extreme, deaths. An American is killed
every 40 minutes by a drunk driver. These accidents usually occur in the later parts of the night or
early parts of the day. And the age group for drunk drivers is usually between 21 24 years. Also men
seem to be more susceptible to be drunk drivers than women. (Facts, 2009) To qualify as a drunk
driver, the alcohol content in the blood level of an individual needs to be greater than or equal to .08

that they think like their children. Be it teenagers or adults. Young people think they can do anything.
They are reckless and full of life, not thinking of the dire consequences of situations they may place
themselves into. But parents know better. They know that even young people cannot combat death

By introducing eggs to infants starting at six months, the baby will have a higher blood concentration

Eggs, similar to milk or seeds, support the early growth and development of an organism. It is also

better for building muscle after a workout compared to the same amount of egg whites. In the
research, 18 young men were given an 18 gram serving of protein from egg yolks or egg whites after
they had one weightlifting session.
Researchers took the blood samples and muscle biopsies of the 18 to track their muscle protein
synthesis. Those who were given the egg yolks registered a 40 percent greater post exercise response

Nicholas Burd, a professor of kinesiology and community health at the University of Illinois, said that
research shows more protein is needed in the diet than once thought to maintain health. He observed a
lot of stress on protein nutrition in modern society.
Burd said that as the world population grows, there is a need for cost effective and sustainable
strategies to improve the use of protein in the diet. He said that the study showed consuming egg
protein in its natural matrix has a greater benefit than getting isolated from the same source.

The House by The Railroad
Edward Hopper is a renowned American painter. In the poem the house by the Railroad, he tries to
portray a picture of a house erected beside the railroad. This poem seems to bear a lot more than what
its simple title indicates. He has used the railroad to emphasize the rift between the viewer s world and
the picture space. The more one tries to penetrate the depths of his paintings, the more difficult it
becomes. Hopper s artistic vision was in line with his view of the contemporary world and nature.
This piece of art symbolizes loss that is felt when present progress leaves behind an agrarian society
the central theme being the Alienation of modern life.
In this picture, Victorian style house stands alone in the field. A railroad track cuts through the
foreground. There is a bare sky behind the house with no secondary objects in the immediate
surroundings of the building. this enables us to keenly focus on the articulation of the building and its
relationship with its environment.
This picture can be broken down into two basics: the house and the train line. However, this is not
really what Hopper is trying to convey to us. Life in this country is made of pure isolation in nature.
The presentation of the train cutting across the land conveys how the train serves those in the country
different from those in the city.
In the use of light to depict the mood of the situation, Hopper uses intense light

Affluenza- An unhappy relationship with money Essay
Affluenza An unhappy relationship with money
Causes Cures
In this essay I plan to analyze a dangerous disease that is infecting people through the U.S. This
disease is called affluenza it is very contagious and once infected with the disease it is difficult to
unseat. Affluenza us characterized as an unhealthy relationship with money, swollen expectations and
trying to keep up with the Joneses. Affluenza creates stress, bankruptcies, and causes problems in
relationships. Although, there are some people who have a different definition for affluenza. Many
people find affluenza to be a rich man s disease and have responded by suggesting that the world has
bigger problems without have to feel sorry for the rich. I would contend that ... Show more content on

But, sadly enough many families get affluenza and it consumes them and the final product is surely
not The Waltons. An example of this is a women named Julie, 24, who filed for bankruptcy last year
when harassing phone calls from creditors and high monthly credit card payments overwhelmed her.
The mother of a 7 week old child, she erased more than $20,000 of debt, most of which was run up by
her affluenza infected former boyfriend who charged clothes and took cash advances on her account.
Even after filing for bankruptcy she has received three offers for unsecured credit cards, (IIN, 1997).
This is an illustration of how the blame does not solely lye with the consumer. She tried to rid her self
of affluenza but credit card companies were attempted to give her more credit at the same time. This
goes against a quote made by David Sandor, a spokesman for Visa he stated, No bank card issuer
wants a consumer to be over his head or in bankruptcy. But, surely Visa and other companies have
access to her credit report which states her credit history, including current debt, and surely
bankruptcy.
Materialism is also a symptom of this disease we call affluenza. What perpetuates materialism and
causes affluenza? This simple answer is marketers by uses an abundance of information that cannot be
avoided they condition consumers to buy. One example that supports this claim is a statistic, it states
by the age of 20, the average American will have

Ordering Process
To review the ordering process for The Broadway Cafe to make sure it is efficient and effective I
would change counter A to where a customer is able to order both their meal and drink at one place.
This will benefit both the process of getting a meal and make it easier for customers to order
everything they need at one spot. Counter B should be used as just food pick up and counter C for
picking up your drink so things do not get crowded in one area. Counter D could be with counter A so
when you order your meal you can go ahead and pay. Counter E is necessary where it is and removes
bottlenecks.
To Be process
Changing around where medication is ordered, picked up, and paid for to just one area makes it easier
for customers to get everything at one spot rather than having a section for each one which will be
more efficient. When waiting for medication to be picked up customers can look around at products
and might buy something else. Once the prescription is ready and they have questions there is a
separate area to talk to the pharmacist privately. With three easy steps of ordering/picking

Maximizing the Corporate Objective with the Stakeholder...
Introduction The main contender to value maximization as the corporate objective is stakeholder
theory, which argues that managers should make decisions so as to take account of the interests of all
stakeholders in a firm, including not only financial claimants, but also employees, customers,
communities, and governmental officials. Because the advocates of stakeholder theory refuse to
specify how to make the necessary tradeoffs among these competing interests, they leave managers
with a theory that makes it impossible for them to make purposeful decisions. With no clear way to
keep score, stakeholder theory effectively makes managers unaccountable for their actions (which
helps explain the theory s popularity among many managers).
But if value creation is the overarching corporate goal, the process of creating value involves much
more than simply holding up value maximization as the organizational objective. As a statement of
corporate purpose or vision, value maximization is not likely to tap into the energy and enthusiasm of
employees and managers. Thus, in addition to setting up value maximization as the corporate
scorecard, top management must provide a corporate vision, strategy, and tactics that will unite all the
firm s constituencies in its efforts to compete and add value for investors.
In clarifying the proper relation between value maximization and stakeholder theory, the author
introduces a somewhat new corporate objective called enlightened value

Marisol s Case Study Answers
Interviews Parent 1: Marisol Marisol s son Jason had been recommended for services for almost seven
months by school teacher and supporting staff. Throughout his year in Pre K, his teacher documented
several incidents which lead her to believe he needed to be evaluated for special education. He was
not reaching academic milestones for his age. In response, Marisol felt that she was being pressured
into rushing an evaluation and thought her son deserved to meet the milestones at his own pace.
Marisol delayed the evaluation process by not submitting necessary consent and paper promptly.
When asked what hopes or fears she had about special education, she expressed fears of Jason being
treated different not only by teachers and peers, but by relatives and friends. She noted that she also
did not feel well informed on the process of evaluation and allocation of services when asked about
what would help calm her fears. Marisol explained that she just needed a meeting where every
question she had would be answered with knowledge, exactitude, and expertise. After Jason s behavior
led to a teacher injury, Marisol felt forced to allow the evaluation process to begin. Jason, who is now
five years old, was placed in a twelve to one Kindergarten setting upon ... Show more content on

What Is The Definition Of Political Parties
We can define political parties as a confederation of politically active citizens who come together for
the purposes of pushing forward a political agenda. Different parties have different goals. Most of the
parties are created to correct social problems. Some of them form around issues, such as taxation or
civil rights. By comparison with the Europe, democratic countries such Sweden or Russia which have
many different active political parties, the United States has two major parties the Republican Party
and Democratic Party.
The Democratic Party in the United States was established in 1792. This is oldest party in the world.

Privacy In Demand Essay
Like most countries and especially the United States their inhabitants enjoy a certain level of privacy.
People don t generally want intimate information to be accessible to the public eye. In fact many
people go to great lengths to hide everything about themselves. What exactly is the definition of
privacy? Well, privacy is the expectation that confidential personal information disclosed in a private
place will not be disclosed to third parties, when that disclosure would cause either embarassment or
emotional distress to a person of reasonable sensitivities. This information includes facts, images (ex:
photographs and videotapes), and disparaging opinions. When over zealous law enforcement officials

It sounds like these two laws should cover everyones privacy without too much of a problem.
However, this is not the case. There is an immense amount of information floating around that is
concidered public domain. Take for example the drivers license. Every drivers license contains a
name, birthdate, home mailing address, license number, physical description failures to appear in
court, failures to pay traffic fines, license status, and major convictions up to and including the past
seven years. It does not end there. The Department of Motor Vehicles contains information that is
commonly and routinely consulted by employers, insurace companies, attorneys, and private
investigators. What kind of information are these people trying to access. Well, that would include just
about everything about your car such as its make, its owner and even the lienholder if the loan for the
vehicle has not been paid in full. This information that is being collected by these third party groups is
not being researched with the same intention that it was collected for. This is also wrong.
What about court records. Unless those record involve a juvenile, they are usually public. Propety
records are also open for public inspection. When a home or other real estate is

Obedience and Submissiveness in Samuel Beckett s Waiting...
Obedience and Submissiveness in Waiting for Godot
Samuel Beckett s pessimistic attitude about the existence of man lead him to write one of the best
contemporary plays known to the twentieth century. Even with its bland unchanging set, clown like
characters, and seemingly meaningless theme, Waiting for Godot, arouses the awareness of human
tragedy through the characters tragic flaws.
Charles Lyons feels, a character s attitude of the space in which he lives, shows a range of detail
marking economic status, social classification, and psychology (Lyons 19). Beckett uses the character,
Lucky, as a metaphor for Man. Using physical, mental, and social blemishes, Lucky exemplifies
Becketts idea that universal man is a slave ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus Lucky is drawn closer to bondage now not by choice, but by necessity. Their relationship
becomes symbiotic. Just as man communally needs man to help get through rough times, Lucky needs
his master to communicate for him.
The next blemish that contributes to the slavery of Lucky is his mentality. Lucky is not capable of
functioning on average human mental capacities. According to Eva Metman, Lucky allows his master
to organize his life for him (Metman 122). This makes life easier to bear because Lucky can escape
the burden and consequence surrounded by decision making. Beckett portrays Lucky as a lunatic too
dumb to speak or even think for himself. When Lucky finally does speak, on command, he stutters
and repeats incoherently, according to Ramona Cormier and Janis Pallister. They also feel Lucky s
disorganized sentence fragments is symbolic of the mental deterioration of man (Cormier and Pallister
9). In addition, Iser believes, the repetition emphasizes [Lucky s] unawareness of problems (Iser 253).
Lucky s ideas are distorted from lack of identity. He cannot be his own person, thus, the broken record
like speech symbolizes his broken spirit. Man tends to waddle through life pretending that his mental
being is somewhat tainted in order to divert problems and avoid circumstance. Finally, Beckett s
universal man is conveyed through the social status Lucky upholds. Lucky is below animal

Development of Social Networks and Their Impact on Society
The contribution of Informatics to the development of social networks and their impact on society.
With the progression of technologies that are able to overcome the obstacles of time and space (e.g.,
airplanes, cars, the Internet), one would think that these tools would be used to gain an understanding
of other cultures, meet people all over the world, maintain and strengthen familial relationships,
communicate effectively with others, and help people to become more socially strong. However, some
technological advances cause people to be distracted, overly stressed, and increasingly isolated. Many
people are involved in an abundant number of relationships through technology, but sometimes the
quantity of these associations leaves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, a false sense of security may leave social networking site users vulnerable to security
attacks such as hacking, leaking sensitive information, and sending viruses. People trust messages sent
through social networking sites and consider them more legitimate than emails. However, social
networks do not scan messages for viruses or phishing scams; while most email accounts do scan the
messages for spam and viruses through antivirus software. The public nature of online profiles creates
security risks about which most users are unaware. Cybercriminals can gather information to be used
for identity theft from social networking profiles, such as birthdays, pet names, mothers maiden
names, names of children, and other details often used in passwords and security questions. Offline
crime may result from posting personal information, like home robberies committed after a person
announces vacation plans and alerts criminals when the home will be left unattended. In the final
analysis, I would tell, it is apparent that technology has the potential to harm or enhance your social
skills and social life. The key is to analyze how technology affects you socially. The society should
pose questions for itself, as to how technologies help us build positive, meaningful relationships, or do
technologies hinder this process? Are we better able to communicate, listen, and share because of

Consciousness Is A Wide Topic That Spans Many Different...
Lane McTaggart Psychology Keith Stovall November 16, 2016 Consciousness Consciousness is a
broad topic that spans many different schools of thought. Its role in the early evolution of animals
would be more related to biology than psychology. However, the role in consciousness plays in how
the human brain operates would be of great importance in psychology. In this paper certain topics
central to understanding consciousness will be discussed. What consciousness is and rather its more
than just biochemistry. Where did consciousness originates and what role did it play in evolution. The
functions that consciousness provide will be discussed, and the benefits that consciousness gives us, as
humans, will be as well. How consciousness is intertwined with being human. Also a look into
consciousness and artificial intelligence will be introduced. Consciousness is a remarkably complex
and interesting subject to discuss. We have to ask ourselves, what is consciousness? Consciousness is
more than cellular chemistry. (perlis 99) Consciousness is not fully explainable or describable by the
molecular chemistry of the brain to many researchers. Our understanding of consciousness is
intertwined with our understanding to be human in a lot of ways. Being without consciousness is
indescribable. (perlis99) So intertwined that we are not able to fully understand how to begin to look
at the world without consciousness. Pure consciousness may not exist. (perlis99) Perlis states

In 1921, Mr. J.C Harmon became the President of Cottey College. Virginia Alice Cottey Stockard, the
founder and previous president of the college, was thrilled and believed she and the Board of Trustees
had made an excellent decision, considering they had trained him to know the inner workings of the
college for a year. He seemed to be a promising president of Cottey College. Unfortunately, at the
beginning of the new school year in 1922, Harmon resigned from his position as president due to the
financial difficulties the college was going to face. Stockard, at the age of 74 years old, stepped up as

Sisterhood and Cottey had a lot in common. Their colors were the same, the flower they chose to
represent their organizations were the same, and they each had a passion for educating women. She
followed up this interest by writing a letter to the President of the Supreme chapter of the PEO, Alice
Scott. Stockard offered to speak at the Supreme Chapter Convention to offer the college as a gift to the
PEOs. According to the 1927 PEO Record from November, Mrs. Edith Pritchard (the past president of
the Supreme Chapter) visited the college, as did Mrs. Hallie Newell, and both of them gave positive
feedback at the Convention. Stockard spoke at the Convention, and the very next day the PEO
Sisterhood accepted the college. The PEOs also agreed to bulk up the Endowment Fund to $200,000,
one of the provisions of the gift. Stockard requested to remain the president for the next two years, to

The American Dream Future Essay
A New VisionFor the past several decades, people in America have thrived with economic growth and
material wealth. These good times gave birth to the concept of an American dream, having a
traditional family and little to no struggle to obtain material possession. The issue arises when today s
youth is being told that they can have anything they want, similar to how their parents achieved their
goals. Being so focused on the past, one can become blind to the future and its harsh truth: the
realization that the good times as people have defined them are much less attainable today than it was

In the Heart of the Sea
In the Heart of the Sea The novel In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex, by
Nathaniel Philbrick, successfully tells the story of the whale ship Essex that was attacked by a sperm
whale 1,500 nautical miles west of the Galapagos, 40 miles south of the equator. Many people know
this as the story of Moby Dick , which was based off this event. The novel highlights three themes:
man versus nature, survival, and suffering. The novel starts out in the town of Nantucket, an island off
the eastern coast of New England. Nantucket, at this time, is known as one of the most successful
whaling ports. Docked on the port was the famous Essex, a 20 year whaling boat. The Essex is the
pride of Nantucket. It is 87 feet long, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In chapter 5, on November 20, the crew spots whales 40 miles south of the equator. Chase and his
crew go after a whale, which destroys their boat with its tail. When they bring their boat back to the
Essex, they spot a huge sperm whale near the bow of the ship calmly and quietly floating along the
surface of the water. The whale began to move quickly towards the ship. The men try to steer Essex
away from the whale, but are unsuccessful. The whale rams the ship with its head, and the men are
amazed. After the whale revives itself, it struck the ship again, causing the Essex to sink bow first. The
men board their whaleboats after a night of preparation of leaving the Essex. They stripped the sails of
the ship and attached them to their boats. The waves splashed over the boat, causing the work to be
more difficult. The next morning, the boats take off. Chase and Pollard talk of where to go now that
their ship has sunk. They speak about going to the Galapagos Islands, but Pollard noticed the wind
direction would not allow them to go there. Next, they speak about the Marquesas, in the west. The
men had heard that the inhabitants of the island were cannibals. South of the Marquesas were the
Tauamotu Archipelago Islands, but the men had also heard that the islands have a bad reputation. In
this conversation, we notice the colonist s outlook on the unknown. They share a sense of togetherness

Social Exchange Theory 2
Application of:
The Social Exchange Theory
In everyday interactions people are always looking to have a positive experience among those with
whom they interact. According to the Social Exchange theory, with each interaction an individual has
with another, that individual attempts to maximize the positive outcomes and minimize the negative.
The purpose of this paper is to apply the Social Exchange theory to an authentic real life situation to
best illustrate the theory and the key concepts that it holds. In applying the social exchange theory

According to West and Turner this is critical to the Social Exchange Theory (182). The theory rests on
the notion that within the limits of the information that is available to them, people will calculate the
costs and rewards of a given situation and guide their behaviors accordingly West Turner 182).
Meaning that people are always calculating the rewards and costs for each situation they are put into,
and those rewards or costs determine the outcome of their decision making.
Along with assumptions for the Social Exchange there is another factor that plays a key role. Relating
to the concept of cost and rewards is the comparison level or CL. The comparison level is a standard
representing what people feel they should receive in the way of rewards and costs from a particular
relationship (West Turner 184). Therefore the individual weighs the pros and cons of the relationship.
If the cons are an

acceptable amount, then the relationship should very well stay the same. However, if the costs far
outweigh the rewards, then there is what is called a comparison level for alternatives (CLalt). As
stated by West and Turner, this refers to the lowest level of relational rewards a person is willing to
accept given available rewards from alternative relationships of being alone (185). Signifying that the
CLalt measures how people evaluate a relationship compared to the realistic alternatives

Modern Times And It Happened One Night
There were many who often assumed roles or stereotypes recognized by the masses of the female
gender before the 1940s, of examples such as the naïve princess or the obedient housewife. It was
additionally a time of doubts and indecisions due to stock market crash. The concept of modernity was
slowly being represented as a mirror or response to the reality. This paper will discuss the way that the
female leads were presented in the film Modern Times and It Happened one Night in response the
changing ideas of modernity such as gender, class, and sexuality. The definition of the feminine form
was interpreted exceptionally in the titles mentioned to appeal to the developing modernity. During the
time, films presented women as fragile object that are easy to break and need to be cared for while
also often found themselves in love with dangerous men. Claudette Colbert, performing Ellen Ellie
Andrews from It Happened One Night, capture the necessary shift in characters to mirror the
conversions in the real life conventions. After defying her father s will of canceling her engagement
with Jameson Thomas, the pilot adventurer, she ran off the property where she was cherished and
loved. During her escape to her fiancé, she met Peter Warne, the tough reporter. The character of Ellan
aged throughout the film as Peter and she grew closer. In the end, she chose to reject her previous
lover to be with Peter. Similarly in Modern Times, Ellen Peterson, played by Paulette Goddard,

  • 3. Marijuana Research Paper The Legalization of Marijuana Lately it seems that drug policy and the war on drugs has been in the headlines continuously. Policies in United States government takes against illegal drugs are coming into question. Marijuana laws have been enacted since 1937, that s over 75 years of prohibition. But in 1996, California passed Proposition 215, legalizing the use of prescription medical marijuana. Just like the failed attempt of alcohol prohibition, marijuana is now rising as the most popular drug in America. Marijuana is the most commonly used drug in the United States. However, it is an illegal substance. It could be used for medical purposes but how will it be kept from being distributed illegally? Marijuana makes people with some ... That s because the Long term marijuana abuse can lead to addiction; that is, compulsive drug seeking and abuse despite the known harmful effects upon functioning in the context of family, school, work, and recreational activities. Even though Marijuana isn t a physical addiction(your body NOW needs the drug to survive) but its a mental addiction. Marijuana users feel like they need to smoke just to get through the day, so they can enjoy life, which is a contradiction, Marijuana is a depressant causing you to feel drowsy. People who claim Marijuana isn t an addictive drug, they re wrong. About 9 percent of people who use marijuana become dependent on it. It may not seem like a lot but the global number of people who used cannabis at least once in 2007 is estimated to be between 143 and 190 million people. It is time for cannabis to become legal. Galloping polls show that 50% of the U.S. population agrees with the use of marijuana. In 1965, 1 million Americans have tried weed. In 1972, that number jumped to 24 million Americans. These are hardly criminals, they are CEOs, farmers, singers and song writers, tax paying citizens being forced to use their weed beneath the law. Every 37 seconds, someone in America is arrested for marijuana related charges, 98% of those arrest are people just holding. Americans should not suffer for outdated laws. It s obvious there are ... • 4. The Modern Plague Of Overpopulation Unlike plagues of the dark ages or contemporary diseases we do not understand, the modern plague of overpopulation is soluble by means we have discovered and with resources we possess. What is lacking is not sufficient knowledge of the solution but universal consciousness of the gravity of the problem and education of the billions who are its victim. This was said by Martin Luther King, Jr on May 5, 1966. If this was said almost 49 years ago by one of the greatest leaders of American history, why hasn t the issue of overpopulation been solved yet? Simply because we lack the universal consciousness of the serious issues overpopulation bring and the education required on how to prevent it. The world just can t support every single human being if we continue to ignore the issue. So what would happen globally if the demand for natural resources is greater than the supply? There will be conflicts and wars, environmental degradation and climate change. In addition to having a high demand for natural resources and a low supply, it will also cause a rise in unemployment and raise the cost of living. There will be many wars and conflicts to come due to fact that there just won t be enough resources for everybody. Michael Klare, professor of peace and world security studies at Hampshire College, and the author, most recently, of The Race for What s Left: The Global Scramble for the World s Last Resources, informs us that there have been a total of six global conflicts that have ... In the PBS series, we get to learn how many obstacles came along, when many Filipino farm workers along with Mexican American workers began to demand a change in the fields. The struggle in the fields was a movement that was primarily started as a strike in 1965 by Filipino farm workers in Coachella, California than it was led by Cesar Chavez throughout the central valley, they demanded better working conditions from the Growers. Many Mexican American farm workers in Delano, California started to walk off the fields, refusing to pick grapes until the demands they had were heard. Their faith allowed them to feel stronger when the movement was taking place, it allowed them to fight in several different ways. The movement was already in the fifth month and they had not seen any type of change, this was when Cesar Chavez decided to start a peregrinacion to Sacramento. His goal was to recruit or inspire as many people so they could join the movement and have a louder voice. This brought an opportunity to take their voices all around the San Joaquin valley, they saw the valley as a place that had been full of limitations for them and the peregrinacion made the limitations disappear, they were able to surpass those walls, and as they walked throughout many towns more and more people became sympathetic to their cause and joined them on this journey. When they were on the peregrinacion their mornings began with the faith they had held they went to mass, after they would begin to walk to the next town, following a sacred image of La Virgen de Guadalupe it gave them hope. His nonviolence policy also had a lot to give to the movement, as years pass many of the farm workers became frustrated at the fact that they had not seen any changes, they began to talk about using violence against the growers, this was when Cesar Chavez began to worry about the things they could do, and he took matters into his own hands. • 7. Explain Where Most People In The United Kingdom 1. Explain where most people in the United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, and Italy live based on location, climate, trade? (12 Points) In the United Kingdom, I know most people live in major cities. The North Atlantic Current warms the waters around the country creating the Marine West Coast Climate which prevents any ice from being formed, so ports are open all year, which makes trade easy. Most Russians will live in major cities on the western side of the Russia, because of the warm climate. Unlike the west, eastern Russia is covered in permafrost and the Arctic Ocean is frozen parts of the year, so trade is difficult and dangerous. Since the Rhine River flows through the eastern part of Germany, eastern Germany is more densely populated than western Germany, because the Rhine River is used to trade goods among many different countries. Also, the winters are not as harsh in the east than in the west. In Italy, which is a peninsula shaped like a boot, most people live on the coast, because the Apennine ... In large part, this is due to capital spending on the creation and renovation of stadiums for the World Cup in 2014 and the Summer Olympics in 2016. Imagine waking up every morning and walking outside to slum like conditions. Right next to those slum like conditions are brand new athletic stadiums that will primarily used for about a month. All throughout Brazil they built new state of the art stadiums, meanwhile there was a massive issue of poverty occurring. Favelas in Brazil can be found throughout the country. Most famously, Rochina, a favela in Rio De Janeiro sits massively entrenched on a hill in between a mountain range. Just below Rochina lies Rio s developed downtown area. Maracanã, a local stadium in Brazil that was subject to much criticism, just miles away from Rochina was renovated heavily to be the standard for all stadiums. This led to an entry into the manufacture of plastics components for telecommunication and electrical companies presaging LG s entry into the telecommunications business. In the research, 18 young men were given an 18 gram serving of protein from egg yolks or egg whites after they had one weightlifting session. Researchers took the blood samples and muscle biopsies of the 18 to track their muscle protein synthesis. Those who were given the egg yolks registered a 40 percent greater post exercise response in building new muscle than the men given the egg whites. Nicholas Burd, a professor of kinesiology and community health at the University of Illinois, said that research shows more protein is needed in the diet than once thought to maintain health. • 17. Analysis Of The House By The Railroad Surname 6 Name Professor s Name Course Date The House by The Railroad Edward Hopper is a renowned American painter. In the poem the house by the Railroad, he tries to portray a picture of a house erected beside the railroad. This poem seems to bear a lot more than what its simple title indicates. He has used the railroad to emphasize the rift between the viewer s world and the picture space. The more one tries to penetrate the depths of his paintings, the more difficult it becomes. Hopper s artistic vision was in line with his view of the contemporary world and nature. This piece of art symbolizes loss that is felt when present progress leaves behind an agrarian society the central theme being the Alienation of modern life. In this picture, Victorian style house stands alone in the field. A railroad track cuts through the foreground. There is a bare sky behind the house with no secondary objects in the immediate surroundings of the building. this enables us to keenly focus on the articulation of the building and its relationship with its environment. This picture can be broken down into two basics: the house and the train line. However, this is not really what Hopper is trying to convey to us. Life in this country is made of pure isolation in nature. The presentation of the train cutting across the land conveys how the train serves those in the country different from those in the city. In the use of light to depict the mood of the situation, Hopper uses intense light ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An example of this is a women named Julie, 24, who filed for bankruptcy last year when harassing phone calls from creditors and high monthly credit card payments overwhelmed her. The mother of a 7 week old child, she erased more than $20,000 of debt, most of which was run up by her affluenza infected former boyfriend who charged clothes and took cash advances on her account. Even after filing for bankruptcy she has received three offers for unsecured credit cards, (IIN, 1997). This is an illustration of how the blame does not solely lye with the consumer. She tried to rid her self of affluenza but credit card companies were attempted to give her more credit at the same time. This goes against a quote made by David Sandor, a spokesman for Visa he stated, No bank card issuer wants a consumer to be over his head or in bankruptcy. But, surely Visa and other companies have access to her credit report which states her credit history, including current debt, and surely bankruptcy. Materialism is also a symptom of this disease we call affluenza. What perpetuates materialism and causes affluenza? This simple answer is marketers by uses an abundance of information that cannot be avoided they condition consumers to buy. • 21. Maximizing the Corporate Objective with the Stakeholder... Introduction The main contender to value maximization as the corporate objective is stakeholder theory, which argues that managers should make decisions so as to take account of the interests of all stakeholders in a firm, including not only financial claimants, but also employees, customers, communities, and governmental officials. Because the advocates of stakeholder theory refuse to specify how to make the necessary tradeoffs among these competing interests, they leave managers with a theory that makes it impossible for them to make purposeful decisions. With no clear way to keep score, stakeholder theory effectively makes managers unaccountable for their actions (which helps explain the theory s popularity among many managers). But if value creation is the overarching corporate goal, the process of creating value involves much more than simply holding up value maximization as the organizational objective. As a statement of corporate purpose or vision, value maximization is not likely to tap into the energy and enthusiasm of employees and managers. Thus, in addition to setting up value maximization as the corporate scorecard, top management must provide a corporate vision, strategy, and tactics that will unite all the firm s constituencies in its efforts to compete and add value for investors. In clarifying the proper relation between value maximization and stakeholder theory, the author introduces a somewhat new corporate objective called enlightened value ...
