This document summarizes several add-ons for Atlassian Stash, including plugins that provide graphs of commit activity, allow Subversion to Git migration, add gamification through achievements for coding activities, enable categorizing projects, and allow archiving source code downloads. The plugins discussed add analytics, migration tools, gamification, improved organization and archiving capabilities to the Stash platform.

Using static analysis tools within continuous integration systems

Rogue Wave Software

Static analysis tools are used for improving software quality and reliability. Since these tools can be time consuming when used for analysis of big codebases, they are normally run during scheduled (e.g. nightly) builds. However, the sooner a defect is found, the easier it is to fix efficiently. In order to detect defects faster, some analysis tools offer an integration with the integrated development environment of the developers at the cost of not always detecting all the issues. To detect defects earlier and still provide a reliable solution, one could think of running an analysis tool at every build of a continuous integration system. In this paper, we share the lessons learned during the integration of the static analysis tool Klocwork (that we are developing) with our continuous integration system. We think that the lessons learned will be beneficial for most companies developing safety-critical software (or less critical systems) that wish to run their analysis tool more often in their build system. We report these lessons learned along with examples of our successes and failures.

The Missouri Safe Routes to School State Network has over 100 partners working together to promote walking and bicycling to school. Some of their successes include passing complete streets policies in several cities, designating Walk to School Day as a state holiday, and quadrupling participation in Walk to School Day events. They are also working to reform the student transportation funding formula to encourage active transportation options. The network aims to sustain these efforts despite the end of federal SRTS funding through continued coordination and advocacy.

Citizens in Portland, Oregon organized to stop the proposed construction of a new freeway through their city in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They formed a group called STOP (Sensible Transportation Options for People) and used several strategies to build opposition and support for alternatives, including independent analysis, community outreach, and working from within local government bodies. Their efforts were successful and the freeway was not built, shifting transportation planning in Portland to focus more on public transit, bicycling, and pedestrian access instead of expanding roads. Their grassroots organizing and offering of better alternatives served as a model for involving the public in transportation decisions.
