This document discusses the challenges of adopting a landscape management approach (LSM) for implementing India's Greening India Mission (GIM). It outlines some key challenges, including limited guidance in the GIM guidelines on achieving multiple objectives and managing trade-offs. There are also methodological challenges in selecting appropriate scales, integrating diverse data, addressing complexity and uncertainty, and defining and measuring landscape indicators. Integrating economic analysis and linking projects to decision-making are also challenges. Overall, while LSM is seen as important for GIM, there remain significant challenges to adopting this approach that need to be addressed.

It can be put to various uses in soil conservation, viz; Strip cropping, rotational cropping or lay farming. Stabilization of bunds and terraces. Stabilization of gullies, diversion or drainage channels. Stabilization of sand dunes. Meadows and pastures on steep slops. Fertility builder for eroded soil.

The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Govt. of India has
developed guidelines for designing, implementing and monitoring of GIM.
The main guidelines for implementing GIM is based on “Landscape”
approach.
Criteria for identification of Landscapes
1. Based on biophysical and socio-economic parameters; with an operational unit
(about 5000-10,000 ha) often co-terminus with micro/mini watersheds.
2. As a contiguous area, the operational units within larger landscapes to address
ecological as well as socio-economic objectives
3. Projected vulnerability to climate change
4. Status of forest cover,
5. Significance of biodiversity and other ecosystem values, critical habitats and
corridors
6. Potential of area as a carbon sink
7. Overlays of socio economic criteria like poverty and ethnicity (tribal /non-tribal)
to further help prioritization of project areas within the candidate landscapes.

27. Challenges and Lessons Learned from Integrated
Landscape Management Projects
1. Assessing past and current conditions and trends of the systems
including landscapes, to create a baseline scenario (often based on past
data) for strategic planning.
2. Envisioning or forecasting potential future pathways and desired
conditions for the analyzed landscape.
3. Establishing plans and objectives to attain these desired conditions in a
collaborative inter-jurisdictional context.
32. Global Experience in Designing and Implementing
LSM Approaches
Integrated landscape management has been implemented and tested in
a wide range of environments and cultures across the globe, providing
practical examples of place-based implementation.
A recent continental review by the Landscape for People, Food and
Nature Initiative identified
365 programs in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and South and
Southeast Asia that are utilizing methods and practices that characterize
them as integrated landscape initiatives (ILIs).
Results from the continental reviews show that simultaneous
improvements in conservation, agriculture, livelihoods, and
institutional capacity and coordination can be achieved using an ILM
approach
