What are some ways to be healthy? Content questions: What is exercise? What is stress? What are vitamins? The Healthy Living unit is designed to help students and their parents learn healthier ways to live their lives. Over the years obesity in adults and children has been a major topic of discussion for all. With this unit students will be researching healthy activities, healthy foods, and also learn what things help or hinder having a healthy lifestyle. As the teacher, I will provide my students with a number of resources to help them complete this project with their group members. I will also provide aid to any of the groups that express that they need help. Role of the parents, I ask that you all will participate in helping your child with this project by providing healthy meals and healthy activities at home to offer your child a hands-on experience to healthy living. Role of my students, I expect that each of you will contribute equal amounts of work in your groups towards the project and you will have a knowledge of some steps to having healthier lifestyle by the end of this unit. The benefits from this unit are: Students will have a opportunity to participate in Project-Based Learning and that we all will gain knowledge of different activities, foods, and contributing factors that can help us live healthier. Standards: Use the internet, health magazines, and science book resources to research the topic for this unit. Objectives: The students will have the opportunity to participate in PBL by working in groups to research and present information on ways to live healthier. What is Project-Based Learning(PBL) ? Project Based Learning is a hands-on student directed way of learning in which students are able to create projects to display what they have learned. With PBL students are able to work in groups to discuss and explore their collective thoughts and ideas about tasks at hand. PBL steps away from the usual teacher-directed way of teaching and offers a new way of teaching that is student-directed. PBL is a way for students to actively engage in school work instead of sitting at a desk with a book in hand. With this unit students will be researching healthy activities, healthy foods, and also learn what things help or hinder having a healthy lifestyle. As the teacher, I will provide my students with a number of resources to help them complete this project with their group members. I will also provide aid to any of the groups that express that they need help. Role of the parents, I ask that you all will participate in helping your child with this project by providing healthy meals and healthy activities at home to offer your child a hands-on experience to healthy living. Role of my students, I expect that each of you will contribute equal amounts of work in your groups towards the project and you will have a knowledge of some steps to having healthier lifestyle by the end of this unit. The benefits from this unit are: Students will have a opportunity to participate in Project-Based Learning and that we all will gain knowledge of different activities, foods, and contributing factors that can help us live healthier. Standards: Use the internet, health magazines, and science book resources to research the topic for this unit. Objectives: The students will have the opportunity to participate in PBL by working in groups to research and present information on ways to live healthier. What is Project-Based Learning(PBL) ? Project Based Learning is a hands-on student directed way of learning in which students are able to create projects to display what they have learned. With PBL students are able to work in groups to discuss and explore their collective thoughts and ideas about tasks at hand. PBL steps away from the usual teacher-directed way of teaching and offers a new way of teaching that is student-directed. PBL is a way for students to actively engage in school work instead of sitting at a desk with a book in hand.
