Health Education
Parents and guardians,
 This presentation will inform you everything that

your child will be doing over the next two weeks for
our Health Education unit. You will learn what your
child will be expected to know, what you can do to
help, and what will be expected of each of the 4th
Grade teachers.
What should my student know?
 By the end of this unit, your student should understand:
 1. How can we be healthy?
 2. How can we make our diet more healthy?
 3. How can we increase our daily physical activity?
 4. What is obesity?

 5. How can we prevent becoming overweight/
 6. What benefits do we get from exercise and a healthy

diet?
What will my child be doing?


Your child will be learning about and participating in the Play
60 campaign. This is a campaign sponsored by the NFL that
encourages kids to be active for 60 minutes a day to reverse
childhood obesity.



Your child will be keeping a log of his or her daily physical
activity. This includes Physical Education and recess.



Students will use technology to research the properties of a
balanced meal and what a person should do if he or she eats
more than they should to make up for the extra consumption.



Once the students have learned the components to healthy
eating they will create a healthy dish in groups.
How to help your child
 It is highly encouraged for parents to be

encouraging of this project at home. This can be
done by encouraging your child to go outside and
play, having your child determine and choose
healthy snacks, having them help prepare a healthy
meal, or simply showing interest and asking
questions about what was learned each day.
The Role of the 4th Grade Teachers
 Teachers will help students to work collaboratively in

groups.
 Encouragement will be given to maintain a healthy

lifestyle during and after the unit.
 Teachers will assess students on their understanding of a

healthy diet, the importance of exercise and their
completion of creating a healthy meal.
 Questions will be asked throughout the unit to

determine what students have learned each day.
