This document proposes a new progressive model for digital citizenship called ABLE (Attendant, Balanced, Lifelong Learner, Empathetic). It consists of 5 components: being self-aware and other-aware online, balancing technology use in a healthy, moderate way, becoming a lifelong learner of digital skills, and showing empathy and care for others. The model is intended to teach digital citizenship skills to students through strategies like encouraging present moment awareness, moderate tech use, validating information, and developing compassion. It aims to intersect with other areas of teaching to promote well-being, self-expression and academic development through digital tools and relationships.
