3. Introduction
• The poisons which act Primarily on
nervous system are called neurotic
poisons.
• The chief signs and symptoms in
general are usually headache ,
drowsiness, giddiness, delirium,
stupor, coma and sometimes
convulsions or paralysis, though
individual poisons may have
characteristic effects.

 Mainly divided into
1) Cerebral
2) Spinal
3) Peripheral

5. 1) Cerebral poisons
 These poisons acting on cerebrum
 Types of cerebral poisons:
1) Somniferous poisons: which causes sleep
and it includes opoids.
2) Inebriant: a liquor or brew containing
alcohol as the active agent and it includes
alcohols, anaesthetics, sedatives
agrochemicals etc
3) Deliriant: serious disturbance in mental
abilities that results in confused thinking and
reduced awareness of the environment and
it includes Datura, belladonna cannabis

6. 2) Spinal poisons
 These poisons act on spinal cord.
 It includes Nux Vomica (Strychnine)
and its alkaloids, Gelsemium
