Does coaching feel trying at times? "Sometimes we're tested. Not to show our weakness, but to discover our strengths. When adopting new frameworks and practices that challenge old habits or beliefs, individuals often get stuck. And when individuals are stuck, it can lead to entire teams or organizations getting stuck. In this session, we'll explore what it means to amplify our strengths rather than our weaknesses in order to help people get un-stuck. Find out how we've changed hearts and minds to embrace change by tapping into our uniqueness as coaches.
If you are a change agent working with teams or leaders who are struggling to be agile, learn how to use your strengths to meet them where they are and form a stronger coaching relationship.
Little Rock Tech Fest - Change your questions change your worldAllison Pollard
At a critical moment in history the world pivoted because people began to look at things from a different perspective. They stopped asking themselves, “How do we make our product large enough for people to see?” and started asking themselves, “How can I make my product more visible to the public?” When we change our questions we get entirely different outcomes. Questions are powerful tools in the hands of agile teams that can help people discover innovative solutions that have been locked inside waiting to be released into our products! Join Allison for a high-energy workshop that teaches how questions can be used to help a team learn, grow, and break through thought barriers. Learn what makes certain questions provoke more thought than others and how to make your questions more impactful.
As agilists, how are we affected by our relationships with transforming organizations? Organizations treat an agile transformation as a singular event. A budgetary line item, a noun, a one-time metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly. The danger is that we expect people to transform in a particular way or on a schedule.
We believe organizations benefit when we transform the way we assist organizations. In this interactive workshop, Allison and Barry will facilitate discussion on experiences with transformations and what might happen within an organization if we more actively transform ourselves.
Join us as we explore who and what is transforming through agile transformations.
Everyday beliefs come true - Creating greatness through the stories we tell @...Allison Pollard
How engaged, innovative, and resilient is your organization? Are your teams feeling like victims of change? Do you find yourself trying to rescue people? In our experience, how people respond to change impacts their ability to deliver greatness. We can choose to change, or change can be forced upon us—in either case, we can focus on the outcomes we wish to create as a result of the change. Have you discovered your teams’ power to become great?
Nobody is the villain in their own story, and yet many teams get in their own way. The stories we tell ourselves have the ability to hold us back or propel us forward. Whether it’s folklore, gossip, or coffee talk, what gets said can perpetuate the ways things are. Focusing on problems can drive reactive behaviors. And in organizational transformations, the key to change lies in communication.
Allison and Michael will share a model to recognize what kind of stories your teams are telling themselves in their everyday conversations. Noticing the current perspective teams are speaking from enables us to help them shift into more proactive, empowered, and creative thinking. Join this interactive workshop to learn how to listen to a team and coach them to become greater through the words they use. Amplify the positive results of an organizational transformation by becoming a co-creator or coach for your teams.

Getting Real without Getting Fired - Saying Things in a Way People Can HeartAllison Pollard
Are important words often left unsaid at your place of work? Do you feel like you're navigating a complex maze in conversations? Does your message tend to miss the mark with co-workers, who increasingly seem to be impediments to reaching your goals? Are these unspeakable truths in your workplace that you wish someone would resolve for you?
Trust and communication issues within the workplace can hollow out an organization. Invisible lines get drawn. Alternate forms of communication open up to subvert perceived rivals. Allies are recruited, reinforcing an us vs. them behavior cycle. Organizations are suffering from a lack of trust, and it's costing them speed, productivity, and collaboration. What can YOU do about it?
Regardless of your title, you can be a leader in your organization, and a leader's first job is to inspire trust. In this session, Allison and Marcus will share models to evaluate your own behaviors and facilitate activities to help you find your voice for speaking the truth in a way that builds trust. Softening the truth can feel comfortable in low trust environments--it's simpler, nicer, and can make you look like a team player. It can also lead to miscommunication, undelivered news, and blame shifting. On the other hand, saying the truth in all of its ugliness is risky and potentially career-limiting. Finding the sweet spot of communication to become a trusted leader takes self-awareness and practice. Attend this workshop and learn to recognize how your behavior is building trust--or not--and practice speaking hard truths so that others can hear it.

Introducing Engineering Practices without being hands-onAllison Pollard
How do you coach teams in software craftsmanship practices when you are "Not Technical"? We assume our teams are addressing and improving their technical practices on an ongoing basis... and we all know what happens with assumptions!!! If the teams are not paying attention to their technical practices, the codebase is going to be a mess so big and so deep and so tall, you can not clean it up. Life will be BAD! How do you keep an agile team from losing productivity and not hyper-productively making a mess? Teams may not know where to get started adopting practices, but what can you do about it when you're "Not Technical"??
Understand why your team behaves the way it does? Identify their favored communication styles using DISC to nurture trust and promote a more agile team.
Emerging Leadership - DevOps Days Dallas 2016Allison Pollard
Leadership development is about helping others to grow. As leaders, how are we creating opportunities for other leaders to emerge and allowing them to grow? In our journeys, we’ve gone from feeling “no one is stepping up” to recognizing that today’s leaders show up in a different way if you expand your view to see them. It’s rare to find someone like yourself to handle certain responsibilities, and being open to new ideas and new practices can pave the way for more leaders to emerge. Regardless of title or role, teams and groups can evolve from “leadership from a few” to becoming “leaderful.”
Technical Excellence Doesn't Just Happen - AgileIndy 2016Allison Pollard
The ninth principle from the Agile Manifesto states that technical excellence enhances agility, but when the codebase is ugly and the deadlines are tight, most teams don’t choose to refactor mercilessly, adopt TDD, or evaluate automated testing tools—unless they have the proper support. In our experience working with multiple teams in a single codebase, developers can feel victim to a legacy codebase if only a few people are writing clean code or refactoring; guiding them on how to decrease technical debt while delivering their projects helps "unstuck" their other agile practices. We will talk about the challenges we’ve seen with Product Owners, Managers, and Scrum Masters interacting with teams at various stages of agile+technical excellence and how a focus on technical practices sparked a wider interest in craftsmanship. Learn how can you influence the team towards the right practices while fostering their sense of ownership. Getting serious about technical excellence requires support from technical and non-technical roles, and we’ll share how we partnered as coaches to help an organization through a technical turnaround with some tips for others who need to do the same.
When adopting new frameworks and practices that challenge old habits or beliefs, individuals often get stuck. And when individuals are stuck, it can lead to entire teams or organizations getting stuck. How do you move beyond what’s worked in the past? Can you reinvigorate people to combat complacency and apathy? What does it mean to change the mindset of an entire organization? In this session, we’ll talk about what we’ve done as Scrum Masters and Agile Coaches to change hearts and minds to embrace change and continuous improvement. Find out how we’ve helped people get un-stuck and fostered an agile organizational mindset at the individual, team, and organization levels through training, mentoring, and coaching.

Beyond Removing Impediments - Scrum Master as Team Coach - Houston TechFest 2014Allison Pollard
Are you ready to go beyond removing impediments and facilitating meetings to inspire a great team? A team aspiring to greatness often needs a coach, and Agile Coaches need to know how to communicate effectively. Learn how to use metaphor to inspire a high performing team and practice asking powerful questions to evoke discovery and action. In addition to developing your coaching skills, this session will add to your Agile toolbox Lyssa Adkins's high performance tree metaphor, a set of powerful questions to use to take your teams to the next level, and the wisdom to know when and how to use them with your teams.
We will discuss what characteristics and benefits of a high performing team might be lacking if one of the scrum values is not present. Similarly, a team could pick one of the benefits that might be missing and trace back to the values what they might need to improve. This way people will understand the elements of the metaphor and how a team can use it to talk about their behavior.

At its core, generative artificial intelligence relies on the concept of generative models, which serve as engines that churn out entirely new data resembling their training data. If taken to cyberspace, gans work almost the same way.

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3afZip4BTRcWe separate our professional and personal worlds, but it is our friends who are most willing to help us when we need itFacebook has expanded our meaning of “friend,” but each of us has only a few people who gives unconditional love, will try to help right now, seeks to empower us…
This is what we want in our friends… review and on the next slide, brainstorm your friends
Courage is one of our values… how do you know what you want to become?
Blogging is awesome for meeting people who share your interests.
Having a Facebook profile is no longer an advantage when it comes to networking; it’s a disadvantage if you don’t use it. Yeah, Facebook is for fun. But it will also help you get a job, or a tip if you’re a journalist, or a lead on a new apartment. Because if you’re on Facebook, you’re easy to find. And if you post even once in a while — just fun stuff about your life — your friends won’t forget about you. They’ll think of you when opportunities arise.
