The document discusses the narrative structures that will be used in a music video. It will predominantly use flashbacks and flashforwards to help the audience understand the plot and character development. It will also feature binary opposite characters that show different reactions to a break up between the characters. Specifically, one character will have a rose-tinted view of the break up while the other will have a more realistic view. The characters will also represent types - the male will be unable to accept reality while the female will represent a hard-hitting reality check. Finally, the video will use parallel narratives with each character telling their side of the break up story, complying with Goodwin's theory of relating the lyrics to the narrative.

1. Narrative structure in my music video:
There are severalnarrative structures I intend to usein my music video. However, there is
one predominant one that I would like to us throughoutthe music video.
In my video, I intend to predominantly use flashbacks and flash forwards. Theuseof this
allows for a clear image to be drawn within the audience’s mind, in regard to several
aspects of the music video, such as the plot and character backgrounds and development.
The use of a flashback will help the audience understand the plot to its full potential, and
the useof a flash forward will help the audience understand the character’s development/
reaction to the narrative, providing further detail about the character; from this the
audience can individually create their own opinion.
Another narrativestructureI intend to use is the idea of having binary opposite characters.
Usually, a binary opposite explores the idea of the battle between good and bad. However,
in my music video the binary opposite will be the difference between the two characters
and how they react to their break up. For example, one character will react badly and have
a rose-tinted perspectiveof how the break up went etc. and the other character will have
the realistic reaction of whatactually happened.
Following on fromthe binary opposites, there are going to be character types. The male
character will representsomeone who’s head is, almost, in the clouds and has a clouded
perspectiveof everything; someone who cannot accept reality. This is good for the
audience as they could relate as they might know someone like it, which creates a bond
between them and the music video. The female character will be the character who
represents the hard-hitting, reality check inveterate. Itwill be up to the audience to decide
which character they favour.
Finally, in my video I intend to use my own take of parallel narratives cross cutting. The two
narratives will be each character telling their side of the story (thebreak up). This will be
achieved through a compliance to one of Goodwin’s theories, that being a relationship
between the lyrics and the narrative.
