INGSA aims to improve capacities at the science-policy interface globally. Its vision is to build expertise among practitioners, policymakers, and academics. It develops networks, shares knowledge, and partners with other organizations. INGSA operates under ICSU and has a secretariat in New Zealand and a research hub in the UK. It holds capacity-building workshops around the world and biennial summits. INGSA is establishing regional chapters and working to strengthen scientific advice related to issues like the SDGs. It is supported by various funders and has over 2800 members from over 75 countries.

The toolkit was developed by the partners of the EU Erasmus+-supported Active School Communities project, BG BeActive (lead), Youth Sport Trust, International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA), Hungarian School Sport Federation (HSSF), DGI, South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, Sport and Citizenship, UISP, Sports Union of Slovenia and Willibald Gebhardt Institute. The toolkit supports the NowWeMOVE campaign and #BeActive event European School Sport Day, established by HSSF and scaled up by partners including ISCA and BG BeActive.

Future work includes further developing measures, analyzing drivers of well-being, and providing local area well-being data. The goal is to better understand and monitor societal progress over time.

It includes indicators on trust in public institutions and satisfaction with public services, as well as evidence on good governance practices in areas such as the policy cycle, budgeting, procurement, infrastructure planning and delivery, regulatory governance, digital government and open government data. Finally, it provides information on what resources public institutions use and how they are managed, including public finances, public employment, and human resources management. Government at a Glance allows for cross-country comparisons and helps identify trends, best practices, and areas for improvement in the public sector.
