Four 10-12 Marla town houses were
planned with folding elevations to opti-
mize spatial area.
Two reverse aspect plans were combined
with two front aspect plans to achieve this
goal. Aa a consequence , an interesting
muti-faceted elevation is created , adding
intentional visual chaos.
The cladding material is kept light and
minimal to articulate the multi-faceted fa-
cade , and also to optimize its visual im-
pact.Fare faced concrete is used on the
facade of the houses , and all adorning
details are kept clean and minimal , such
as windows , balconies and trellis’s.
The hard finishes within the architec-
tural interior, such as floors , fireplaces ,
doors and windows are also designed with
straight strong lines keeping in line with
the exterior architecture. Juxtapostion of
light and use of warm materials adds soft-
ness to the otherwise hard architecture.

A French structural engineer , working for
MSF ( Medicine sans Frontiers ) in Pakistan
approached me to design a green villa for
him in France. He had purchased land in
the Eco Village of Cinetat , France ,where
very precise instructions and bylaws are in
place to regulate how land owners build
their homes. As a result the client had very
concise instructuions vis a vis his design
requirements.
The design brief was simple and to the
point - each design decision had to be con-
scious of green aspects and minimize the
carbon footprint of the user.
To add to this simple yet challenging
design brief , was the natural topography of
the site , which sloped 20 feet from the road
level to the end of the site.
The buidling envelope has been designed
space effectively , and makes use of muli
functional area’s. The total foorprint of the
space does not exceed 120 squaremeter.
A water reservoir has been designed which
is fed by a rainwater catchment. Only high
performance natural materials have been
proposed and solar panels cover a slanted
south facing rooftop . Walls, floor sections
and glazing have been designed to ensure
maximum insulation and provide increased
thermal comfort in both summer and winter
months.
The most challenging aspect for me in this
project was designing along the slope of
the natural terrain - trying to maximise multi
level vista’s and minimize excavation.

This is the proposed and approved design
for the Private Mansion for the Crown
Prince of Ras Al Khaimah.
For this project I played multifarious roles.
I was the Desgin Manager , Architect and
Interior Designer. My Client was Sheikah
Mona , the mother of the Crown Prince.
The program layout is considerate of
private and semi private zones , whilst
retaining visual layering throughout the
Villa.
The Architecture follows the language of
the firm and concentrates on articulating
floating masses , keeping the ground lev-
el translucent and open to visual vista’s of
the mountains that line the horizon.
Honed Limestone is specified for all the
white masses , and wooden louvres ar-
ticulate important planes.
The Interior Design for this Villa is abit
more elaborate that the intentional mini-
mal architectural design.
Interior Hallways and Lobbies retain the
symbiotic use of rich limestones and wood
.Formal spaces and Family Spaces also
make use of perforated Wooden Cladding
and Stone Cladding but are implemented
in a slightly more contemporary and elab-
orate manner.
Intrior Bedrooms and Bathrooms use rich
stones and Teak Wood , with focal feature
walls and distinctive Lighting features.

The main architectectural feature is the
celebrated stone wall that cuts the home
in half and articulates and seperates the
house in two : private and formal.
This separaton extends to the exterior
creating private gardens for the private
lving spacees and seperating the formal
interior areas with exterior entertaining
areas.
The internal spaces are kept as open as
posisble and integrate smoothly into one
another,
Special emphasizes is given to open,
light-filled spaces with strong connections
to the natural environment.

In the wake of modernity , to lose sight of ones
culture and indigenous arts and crafts would be
a tragedy , especially within our private homes -
A space that can afford to be warmer and is gen-
rally a reflection of our individuality ,
So when I can , or rather when I am allowed to
, I like to play with the past - and bring into the
spaces I design ,
little whimsical reminders of our glorious history.
a- A warm walnut wood is used together with a
harder material - a textured white Quetta Stone
from the north of Pakistan. The fireplace design
is simple and modern , adorned by a intricate tra-
ditional wooden carving.
b- A modern wooden staircase with an artisan
crafted
panel as the railing detail.
c- A traditional “ Jaali “ detail is used as the hori-
zontal surface of a skylight design.
d-Malagori White Marble is used with Whengee
wood as a compliment to the contemporary fire-
place design.

The illustrated project is a team venture
at NAGA ARCHITECTS.
I was the Lead Interior Architect for this
Project , and had 2 junior Architects and
Interior Architects on my team. Moreover
, I collaborated with the Lead Architect
to modify and revise many architectural
changes with coordination with the SMEP
team to ensure the spatial Interior was not
compromised.
The Family Compound consists of the
Main Villa , 2 Junior Villas , 2 Girls Villas ,
a Mens Majlis and a Ladies Majlis.
My role was to take the aleady planned
masterplan and architectural design and
design the hard interior for all the Villa’s.
I would say that this project was a very
good example and oppurtunuity between
all departments to closely collaborate and
the synthesis and final outcome is the
consequence of succesful collaboration
between internal teams.

The main intention for the Interior Archi-
tecture and Design was to keep the in-
dividual Villa’s open and luxurious , but
at the same time retain a very modern
language.
Rich Travertine Stones have been used
to accent feature walls and bring richness
into the Villa’s.
The individual Villas retain certain dis-
tinctve characterisitics but are binded by
the use of stone and an arabesque pat-
tern ontop of the glazing.
The Womens Majlis and Men’s Majlis fol-
low a slightly more classic modern style to
cater to the Cients expected guests.
However the Private Villa’s For the main
Family and seperate Villa’s for their chil-
dren have a more contemporary modern
style.
All villa’s connect on the Basement Level
, where Kitchen and staff services are lo-
cated.

Collaboration Project between Architec-
ture and Interior Deparment.
The Site lies parallel to the beach in Ras
Al Khaimah and tapers about 40 feet down
towards the beach.
As a result the Architectural Design was
intentionally kept low and horizantal from
the highest entry point , and makes use of
the topography to allow natural Views into
the Interior from both Ground Floor and
Lower Ground Floor.
A celebrated stacked stone wall is a main
volumetric feature in the exterior and
within the interior , bringing the natural
landape and the retaning walls language
within.
The ground floor level is majorly kept
open plan to allow for maximum views to-
wards the sea and pool deck.

As is common in most projects, the most
challenging element in this project too,
was to deliver a high-end office interior in
a very economical budget and in a quick
time frame.
The program consisted of a CEO’s cham-
ber, an executive secretary desk, a board
room, a workspace for 4 executive staff, 2
administrative staff, a greeting desk, stor-
age and kitchen facilities.
The conceptual design was straightfor-
ward and focused on functional & effective
spatial planning. Every square foot of the
small office space strove to be used for
maximum utility .
The design style emphasizes clean lines
and sophisticated material fabrication.
Splashes of color are used to break the
monotony of the more conservative grey
and white. Surprise elements include the
360-degree rotational LCD panel screen,
which acts as a television/multi-media set
and a discussion board on the opposite
side. This panel is located between the
boardroom and CEO’s room for maximum
efficiency, simultaneously promoting the
need for sustainable solutions.
Concealed cabinets in the CEO’s room
open to reveal a hidden bar, suit cabinet
and a safety vault.
I am proud of this project for many rea-
sons. First of all , it was designed and
built within 8 weeks. Moreover the total
cost of the project came to $22 per sqaure
feet , which is a great accomplishment
when considering the elegant and modern
materials selected and used.
All hard and soft furnishings have been
custom designed and built to specifica-
tion.

Institute.
This project was a 4 member team pro-

We all took equal part and ownership of
proposing 3 conceptional exhibition de-
signs to the client , and then made mock
up models of the selected proposal before
going on to build the fine-tuned proposal
at site - the Architecture Digest Show in
Manhattan.During the course of this pro-

George Nakashima’s granddaughter , and
made various field trips out to the estate
where the furniture workshop is. Our EDI
Professor Mr.Jon Otis was our advisor
throughout the project.

During the last term of the EDI Program
at Pratt Institute , I had the great oppur-
tunity to work with a local middle school
in Brooklyn. Myself and my 5 team mates
volunteered to work with Citizen’s School
NY - an establishment that gets diverse lo-
cal professionals to conduct after-school
workshops for 5th to 8th graders on topics
of their expertise .Students sign up for a
workshop after hearing all the volunteer
groups pitch their workshop topics.
I was part of the 6 member team from
Pratt’s graduate ID department and we
pitched a workshop idea that involved
designing a theme chair and undergoing
the creative design process. We tiltled the
workshop “ Sit on It ! “. Within this work-
shop , we worked closely with 12 middle
schoolers and went through the process
of putting together a “ theme chair “. As
a part of the workshop , students were
taken to the Vitra Showroom in Manhattan
and the Industrial Department at Pratt In-
stitute to strengthen their understanding
of chair design.
After 4 weeks , each student created a
theme chair ready for exhibit , which our
team designed , and held at Pratt Insti-
tute.
During the workshop , we held a photo
shoot for the kids , we took them aroun
Pratt and basically through showing and
doing , we tried to teach them , what a
designer’s job entails.
This was one of the most rewarding pro-
jects that I had the great oppurtunutiy to
be a part of - to work with and get to know
these kids was a great gift.

YA R D S COMPLETED : 2 0 0 7 ROLE : DESIGN ARCHITECT & PROJECT MANAGER Four 10-12 Marla town houses were planned with folding elevations to opti- mize spatial area. Two reverse aspect plans were combined with two front aspect plans to achieve this goal. Aa a consequence , an interesting muti-faceted elevation is created , adding intentional visual chaos. The cladding material is kept light and minimal to articulate the multi-faceted fa- cade , and also to optimize its visual im- pact.Fare faced concrete is used on the facade of the houses , and all adorning details are kept clean and minimal , such as windows , balconies and trellis’s. The hard finishes within the architec- tural interior, such as floors , fireplaces , doors and windows are also designed with straight strong lines keeping in line with the exterior architecture. Juxtapostion of light and use of warm materials adds soft- ness to the otherwise hard architecture.

  • 6. A French structural engineer , working for MSF ( Medicine sans Frontiers ) in Pakistan approached me to design a green villa for him in France. He had purchased land in the Eco Village of Cinetat , France ,where very precise instructions and bylaws are in place to regulate how land owners build their homes. As a result the client had very concise instructuions vis a vis his design requirements. The design brief was simple and to the point - each design decision had to be con- scious of green aspects and minimize the carbon footprint of the user. To add to this simple yet challenging design brief , was the natural topography of the site , which sloped 20 feet from the road level to the end of the site. The buidling envelope has been designed space effectively , and makes use of muli functional area’s. The total foorprint of the space does not exceed 120 squaremeter. A water reservoir has been designed which is fed by a rainwater catchment. Only high performance natural materials have been proposed and solar panels cover a slanted south facing rooftop . Walls, floor sections and glazing have been designed to ensure maximum insulation and provide increased thermal comfort in both summer and winter months. The most challenging aspect for me in this project was designing along the slope of the natural terrain - trying to maximise multi level vista’s and minimize excavation. For this project I played multifarious roles. I was the Desgin Manager , Architect and Interior Designer. My Client was Sheikah Mona , the mother of the Crown Prince. The program layout is considerate of private and semi private zones , whilst retaining visual layering throughout the Villa. The Architecture follows the language of the firm and concentrates on articulating floating masses , keeping the ground lev- el translucent and open to visual vista’s of the mountains that line the horizon. Honed Limestone is specified for all the white masses , and wooden louvres ar- ticulate important planes.
  • 8. The Interior Design for this Villa is abit more elaborate that the intentional mini- mal architectural design. Interior Hallways and Lobbies retain the symbiotic use of rich limestones and wood .Formal spaces and Family Spaces also make use of perforated Wooden Cladding and Stone Cladding but are implemented in a slightly more contemporary and elab- orate manner. Intrior Bedrooms and Bathrooms use rich stones and Teak Wood , with focal feature walls and distinctive Lighting features. This separaton extends to the exterior creating private gardens for the private lving spacees and seperating the formal interior areas with exterior entertaining areas. The internal spaces are kept as open as posisble and integrate smoothly into one another, Special emphasizes is given to open, light-filled spaces with strong connections to the natural environment.

The fireplace design is simple and modern , adorned by a intricate tra- ditional wooden carving. b- A modern wooden staircase with an artisan crafted panel as the railing detail. c- A traditional “ Jaali “ detail is used as the hori- zontal surface of a skylight design. d-Malagori White Marble is used with Whengee wood as a compliment to the contemporary fire- place design.

Moreover , I collaborated with the Lead Architect to modify and revise many architectural changes with coordination with the SMEP team to ensure the spatial Interior was not compromised. The Family Compound consists of the Main Villa , 2 Junior Villas , 2 Girls Villas , a Mens Majlis and a Ladies Majlis. My role was to take the aleady planned masterplan and architectural design and design the hard interior for all the Villa’s. I would say that this project was a very good example and oppurtunuity between all departments to closely collaborate and the synthesis and final outcome is the consequence of succesful collaboration between internal teams. Rich Travertine Stones have been used to accent feature walls and bring richness into the Villa’s. The individual Villas retain certain dis- tinctve characterisitics but are binded by the use of stone and an arabesque pat- tern ontop of the glazing. The Womens Majlis and Men’s Majlis fol- low a slightly more classic modern style to cater to the Cients expected guests. However the Private Villa’s For the main Family and seperate Villa’s for their chil- dren have a more contemporary modern style. All villa’s connect on the Basement Level , where Kitchen and staff services are lo- cated.

The Site lies parallel to the beach in Ras Al Khaimah and tapers about 40 feet down towards the beach. As a result the Architectural Design was intentionally kept low and horizantal from the highest entry point , and makes use of the topography to allow natural Views into the Interior from both Ground Floor and Lower Ground Floor. A celebrated stacked stone wall is a main volumetric feature in the exterior and within the interior , bringing the natural landape and the retaning walls language within. The ground floor level is majorly kept open plan to allow for maximum views to- wards the sea and pool deck.

F E E T As is common in most projects, the most challenging element in this project too, was to deliver a high-end office interior in a very economical budget and in a quick time frame. The program consisted of a CEO’s cham- ber, an executive secretary desk, a board room, a workspace for 4 executive staff, 2 administrative staff, a greeting desk, stor- age and kitchen facilities. The conceptual design was straightfor- ward and focused on functional & effective spatial planning. Every square foot of the small office space strove to be used for maximum utility . The design style emphasizes clean lines and sophisticated material fabrication. Splashes of color are used to break the monotony of the more conservative grey and white. Surprise elements include the 360-degree rotational LCD panel screen, which acts as a television/multi-media set and a discussion board on the opposite side. This panel is located between the boardroom and CEO’s room for maximum efficiency, simultaneously promoting the need for sustainable solutions. Concealed cabinets in the CEO’s room open to reveal a hidden bar, suit cabinet and a safety vault. I am proud of this project for many rea- sons. First of all , it was designed and built within 8 weeks. Moreover the total cost of the project came to $22 per sqaure feet , which is a great accomplishment when considering the elegant and modern materials selected and used. All hard and soft furnishings have been custom designed and built to specifica- tion.

This project was a 4 member team pro- ject from concept all the way to execution. We all took equal part and ownership of proposing 3 conceptional exhibition de- signs to the client , and then made mock up models of the selected proposal before going on to build the fine-tuned proposal at site - the Architecture Digest Show in Manhattan.During the course of this pro- ject , we met regularly with the client , George Nakashima’s granddaughter , and made various field trips out to the estate where the furniture workshop is. Our EDI Professor Mr.Jon Otis was our advisor throughout the project. Myself and my 5 team mates volunteered to work with Citizen’s School NY - an establishment that gets diverse lo- cal professionals to conduct after-school workshops for 5th to 8th graders on topics of their expertise .Students sign up for a workshop after hearing all the volunteer groups pitch their workshop topics. I was part of the 6 member team from Pratt’s graduate ID department and we pitched a workshop idea that involved designing a theme chair and undergoing the creative design process. We tiltled the workshop “ Sit on It ! “. Within this work- shop , we worked closely with 12 middle schoolers and went through the process of putting together a “ theme chair “. As a part of the workshop , students were taken to the Vitra Showroom in Manhattan and the Industrial Department at Pratt In- stitute to strengthen their understanding of chair design. After 4 weeks , each student created a theme chair ready for exhibit , which our team designed , and held at Pratt Insti- tute. During the workshop , we held a photo shoot for the kids , we took them aroun Pratt and basically through showing and doing , we tried to teach them , what a designer’s job entails. This was one of the most rewarding pro- jects that I had the great oppurtunutiy to be a part of - to work with and get to know these kids was a great gift.
