The document contains Michelle Dunbar's pitch for two short film ideas. For the first film titled "Opposites", the summary is that it will be a 6-minute film about an introverted girl named Maddie who meets an extroverted girl named Megan, and their budding friendship brings Maddie out of her shell. The second film idea titled "Knocking" will be a 5-6 minute mysterious film about two friends who hear unexplained knocking at the door of one of the girl's house at night. Both films target a teenage audience aged 16-18.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
2. Film idea 1
• Working title
I would like to call my short film ‘Opposites’ because it fits in well with the plot of my
film. I think that my title will give the viewers an idea of what it is about because they
are more likely to want to watch it if the title sounds interesting. I might change the
name if I find one that is more fitting and eye catching because I want the viewers to
be able to make an assumption about what it is about without having to watch it.
• Length of film
I would like my film to be around 6 minutes long because I think that I will be able to
fit in everything that I need to in that time frame and if it was any longer, I think that
it would drag. If I made it longer i think that the quality wouldn’t be as good.
• Logline/Tagline
I want my tagline to be ‘They do say opposites attract’ because it relates to
the plot of my film and it summarises what it is about in a sentence.
3. Key Characters
• Maddie
A 17 year old introvert who prefers to stay at home, she doesn't have lots of friends
and prefers to have a small but close group of them. She finds it hard to fit in because
she finds it difficult to talk to people first. She needs someone to bring her out of her
comfort zone and show her how to have fun.
• Megan
A 17 year old extrovert that loves to meet new people any chance she gets. She is a
risk taker and isn't scared of the consequences. She likes to spend her time outside
and go out of her comfort zone to have fun.
4. Synopsis
• Act 1
Maddie and Megan wake up and start getting ready for their day.(they are in separate
houses but the screen is split in half to show both of them at once) They spend their
mornings alone and get ready to leave the house. They leave their houses at the same
time and bump into each other at the park. Maddie is reading and gets approached by
Megan who Is listening to music, it is very loud and Maddie hears it and looks up
before Megan reaches her.
• Act 2
Maddie and Megan sit together and get to know each other with Megan leading the
conversation. They talk about their interests to each other. Megan tells Maddie that
she needs to do something crazy once in her life. Megan then suggests that try and
steal a car during the night.
They wait till it gets dark and successfully get the door open to someones car. But just
as they open the door, the porch light to the house turns on and they run away, but
first they grab the CDs that are in the glovebox.
• Act 3
They run away laughing, they stop somewhere to take a break from running, they look
through the CDs they took and thro them in the air, they then have a long hug.
5. Target Audience, Form + Style,
Marketplace
• Target Audience
My target audience are going to be around 16-18. I think that my short film
will reach them because it is a teen film. On the NRS scale my audience would
be an E because it would be targeted at teenagers still in school and it would
be unlikely that they have their own income.
• Form + Style
I want my film to have a modern feel to it as it is aimed at teenagers. There is
not a particular style that I want to film in.
• Marketplace
I think that my film will be popular on sites like Youtube and Short of the
week, this is because teenagers are more likely to watch something if it is
online and easily accessible by phone. Also I think that teen drama is a
popular genre and that my film also be popular because of that. I don’t want
there to be a prequel/sequel because I just want it to be a stand alone film.
8. Film idea 2
• Working title
I would like to call my short film ‘Knocking’ because it will refer to something
that happens in the plot. The title will also give the audience an idea about
what will happen.
• Length of film
I want the length of my film to be around 5-6 minutes because I think that it is
a good length to get everything I need in and for it to still be interesting.
• Logline/Tagline
I want my tagline to be ‘something is knocking’ because this gives an insight
into what my film is about but also doesn’t give anything away so that you still
have to watch it to find out what the full story is.
9. Key Characters
• Jess
A 17 year old kind and light-hearted girl who likes to stay at home and watch
films with her friends. She is scared of the dark and likes to be home early.
She is also quite nervous and gets scared easily.
• Sabrina
A 16 year old confident girl who has a quirky dress sense. She is not scared of
much and likes to stick up for her friends, especially her best friend Jess. She
will back up her friends in any situation and will try and keep them from harm
when she can.
10. Synopsis
• Act 1
Jess Is sat in her room, she hears a knock at the door, she gets nervous but it is only
her friend Sabrina, who arrived an hour early for their mvie night. Sabrina comes in
and goes to Jess’ room to get comfortable.
• Act 2
Its dark and the girls are watching a movie, halfway through thy hear a knock at the
door. Jess thinks that it is her dad who is home early from work but when she goes
down and opens the door there is no one there. She goes back upstairs and thinks
nothing of it.
They hear another knock and they get nervous and slowly walk downstairs together as
they think it is strange that these knocks happened more than once. They go and open
the door with Sabrina taking the lead, and once again no one is there.
• Act 3
Jess calls her dad to ask if he knows who was knocking, he doesn’t and tells them to
stay inside. They hear more knocks and get scared, the door then creaks open and the
screen fades to black.
11. Target Audience, Form + Style,

• Target Audience
My target audience are going to be around 16-18. I think that my short film will
reach them because it is a teen film. On the NRS scale my audience would be an E
because it would be targeted at teenagers still in school and it would be unlikely
that they have their own income
• Form + Style
I want my film to have a mysterious vibe, I want it to also be relaxed until it gets to
the climax, where the pace will then increase. I would like to try and give my film
a tense feeling throughout as I think that will make it more interesting. I think that
the name of the film will also add to the tense atmosphere because the audience
will be waiting for the title of the film to make sense.
• Marketplace
I see this film on short of the week and Youtube, this is because they are
easily accessible and are more likely to be viewed by younger people because
it is online. I think that there is rom for a sequel because of where I left the
end of my film.
