TREATMENT
– IDEA 1
Amy Hill
A working
title
films length
longline
• The current title of the film is ‘rites of passage’
• I am aiming to make the film between 5 and 10 minuets
as I want to allow it to be long enough to tell the story
however still fit with the time limit in the brief
• ‘here's to teenage memories’
The
characters
• There is 3 main characters in the film, teenage girls
aged 18 that are best friends
• Harper – the lead character has always the ideal
teenager, working hard at school and never getting in
trouble with her parents, she realises she has never
done of the fun stereotypical teenage things and she
only has one weekend left with her friends before they
all go away to university.
• Grace & Ella – Harpers friends who are more
adventurous than her, they have always told her to
relax and have fun and make memories. They are
dragged along to help Harper do all the things she
wants to in their last weekend together.
Act 1 • Act one starts with Harper in her room in the evening,
she is scrolling through social media and sees a post
from someone with highlights of all the fun things they
have done that summer, she looks across to a
scrapbook she was given as a present that is empty on
the floor, inspiration strikes as she decides to make a
list of all the stereotypical rites of passage with the aim
to fill her scrapbook with memories to take to
university with her. She talks her 2 friends into coming
with her who are more social able and have always
been telling her that she needs live more.
Act 2
• The next day Grace and Ella come to pick up Harper to
start her mission to make memories, they drive
through the forest, get drive through food and sing
along loudly as they drive, they stop and get out as
Harper takes photos of the 3 of them for the scrapbook
she has brought with her, the sun sets as they are still
there and they come back and order pizza and watch
films as they have a sleepover, Harper continues to
take photos. The next day they are to go to the beach
and are taking photos on the pier and on the sand.
They come back Harper is convinced to go to a house
partying as there is a montage of the girls getting
ready followed.
Act 3 • After getting ready the girls turn up to the house party,
Harper is sceptical about being let in as she isn’t invited
however is reassured that people crash parties all the
time by Grace and Ella.To her surprise she is let in
handed and drink and enjoys the night. The next
morning she wakes up and is scrolls through the
camera roll on her phone to see all the photos from her
weekend. She walks into town to print them off and
the final shot is her sticking them into her scrapbook
as she feels satisfied that she has made memories and
gained experiences that she can take to university with
her.
Target
audience
• The target audience for this film is likely to be a
teenage to young adult demographic ages between 13-
25 as it will be similar ages t0 the characters in the film
and so they can relate to them and their feelings and
what they get up to during the film. The audience is
also likely to be majority female as it may appeal to
them more as they can relate to the dynamic between
the 3 girls in the friendship. On the 4Cs scale the
audience can fit into the explorers category as they
have a need for discovery and adventure like the main
character in the film and they are typically young in
age. In the NRS scale the audience can fit anywhere
between E to C1 as they may be students or just
starting their career depending on their age.
Form and
style
• The film will look as aesthetically pleasing as possible
with the lighting, colouring, location and background
of the shots to produce a high quality looking film. I
also aim to edit screen recordings from a phone screen
to play on-top of footage to add to the story. I want t0
add music to lots of the shots where there is no or little
dialogue to film the noise and set the tone of the
scene. There will also be smooth transitions through
each scene as it will make the overall film seem more
consistent rather than jumpy and roughly edited. A
light for filming will be helpful to make sure that the
scenes are lit well especially for shots in the evening or
at night.
Place in the
market
• I think that this film would to well if uploaded to
YouTube and other websites for films such as short o
the week as it would be able to reach its audience on
that platform easily as it is aimed at teenagers and
young adults and therefore they could access it easily
and for free allowing no barriers to the film. The fact
that it is easily accessible and that it is an inclusive film
as it takes the audience on a journey with 3 friends
making them feel part of the group as well as the 3
main characters being strong female roles can help it
do well, also because it has a theme of memories and
the importance of them I think this will be appealing in
the market.
TREATMENT
- IDEA 2
Working
title
film length
longline
• The current title of the film is ‘jealousy’
• The film will be between 8 and 10 minuets so that it is
long enough for the audience to connect with the
characters
• ‘everyone has something someone else wishes they
had’
The
characters
• There are 2 main characters in the film, they are 17 year
old girls who are students.
• Sophie – a girl who is shy, slightly socially awkward and
doesn’t have a large group of friends but she does have
one close best friend who she has known all the way
through school and she shares everything with her.
• Katie – a popular girl who is confident and is friends
with everyone however her friends are fake and are
friends for popularity not because they care
Act 1 • Starts in a classroom with a teacher talking about how
living in a world with social media effects teenagers as
they are constantly comparing and finding themselves
jealous of others. She sets the class a project to work
with the partner they will be given to find something
that they wish they had that the other person does that
isn’t posted all over social media. Sophie and Katie are
paired together. In the corridor Katie suggest to Sophie
they should meet at Katies house to do the project.
Act 2 • Sophie walks up to Katies house hesitantly, she knocks
on the door and is greeted by Katie, they go to her
room to work. They ask each other questions to find
out about each other, Sophie admits she is jealous of
Katie's confidence and Katie tells how she is jealous of
sophies relationship with her friend. Sophie offer to be
a close friend for Katie to talk to and Katie is going to
help build sophies confidence. They stop working and
sit talking for hours as Katie sees what its like to have a
close friend to open up to.
Act 3 • Sophie is at home and reives a text from Katie, she tells
her she is coming to pick her up and she is going to
hang out with katies large group of friends as she is
going to teach her confidence around lots of people.
They meet others at a blowing alley, they have fun and
Sophie relaxes talking to others in the group and going
on things in the arcade. After they finish Sophie hugs
Katie and thanks her for teaching her it is fun to be
round people and not to always feels awkward. The
next day back in the classroom Sophie and Katie walk
in laughing together, they each put their work on to
their teachers desk as they have completed the
project.
Target
audience
• As the film focuses on the friendship of 2 teenage girls
it is likely the audience will be mainly girls ages
between 12-20 as they can relate to the characters ad
he environment they are in. it also means the audience
will be digital natives and so have grown up with social
media and the comparisons girls often make to
unrealistic images posted on it. On the NRS scale this
mean they are likely to be E to C grade as they are most
likely to be students and non earners or in low skilled
jobs. On the 4Cs scale they could be aspirers as they
care about how they appear to others through social
media and what others think which can be related to
the theme of the film.
Form and
style
• As the film is about the friendship between 2 girls I will
use lots of over the shoulder and close up shots to
make the audience feel like they are with the
characters to build up a relationship and make it feel
personal the audience. I want to use lighting well by
having harsher colder lighting during the scenes at
school when the characters don’t have a friendship and
t become warmer when they are opening up to each
other and forming a bond.
Place in the
market
• I think the film can do well in the market as it has quite
a clear audience and themes of strong female
friendship and supporting each other which is relevant
in todays society. It could be uploaded online to
websites such as short of the week andYouTube as this
is where the audience is mot likely to consume most of
their content and is most likely to come across it.
