3. Key Characters
• Oscar (main) - Oscar is the lead in this film and has been put in the middle of a
missing person case, however the missing person is his sister Julie.
• Julie (Oscar’s sister) Julie has gone missing and no one knows where she’s gone,
whether she ran off or was taken.
• Mum- Oscar and Julie’s mum is devastated by the disappearance of her daughter.
• Oscars Friend (name?)- One of Oscars closes friends that helps him through this
hard time.
• Julie’s Friend (name?)- Julie’s best friend that knows something very interesting.
• Step Father (to Julie and Oscar) - After their Mum and dad split up Gary and her
were introduced and since they met 5 years ago she has re-married.
• Brad (Julie’s Boyfriend) - Brad is Julies girlfriend who seems to be a very nice guy
on the surface.
4. Target Audience
• My target audience is the younger generation from the ages of 13-28, this is
because I feel I can relate to them the most as I am in that age range. I will
achieve this as most of the main characters in my film are the same age as me
therefore will be easy for similar demographic to relate to the characters.
• It will be staring both male and female characters making it more accessible for
everyone.
• Looking at the NRS scale the audience m film is s aimed at covers all of them,
although the characters might find enjoyment out of this film. The main focus
would have to middle class however as they will be able to relate to the
characters the most as they are in similar situations.
• In the 4’s model the primary audience would be the mainstreamer, this is the
most common out of all the audiences and due to how my film is recorded and
distributed (YouTube) the mainstreamer will fit into the target audience.
5. Form and Style
• This film will be shot on a DSLR Canon 200D I will use other
equipment like a tripod, Steadicam and I will also try to use some
lights so that the film looks more professional. I will be aiming for the
film to look like a professional short film like, Deep it or Shiro’s Story.
6. Marketplace
• This film would be a standalone meaning no prequel or sequel. The
story doesn’t really leave anything up in the air. Being a short film I
feel the most success will come from being on YouTube rather than
anything else.
7. ACT 1
• The Film opens with a scene inside a forest. The shot follows a girl walking
alongside a river. After a few seconds we hear someone shout “Julie”. The camera
spins till we see who shouted then it cuts.
• Next scene Oscar’s with a friend when he finds out his sister hasn’t come home.
Oscar goes back home to see if everything is okay. His mums is getting worried
that’s she’s missing. Step Dad comes home after work and runs over to mum to
comfort her.
• 3 days later: It’s been confirmed that she's gone missing, family and friends are
out looking for her. Oscars mum is struggling with the concept that she might not
come back. Oscar runs into Brad, who is Julie’s boyfriend, Brad asked Oscar if
there was any improvement on the search. He then helps Oscar search for a
while, they get talking and Brad mentions the last time he spoke to her was when
she came to the forest. Oscar get mad at Brad for not saying anything sooner.
Brad says that he’s pretty sure she got home after that.
8. ACT 2
Brad and Oscar are searching the forest but Brad was being very weird the
whole time. He then suddenly says he has to go and leaves quickly. Oscar
goes home and messages one of Julie’s friends, he asks if they might know
anything. They end up meeting up while searching for Julie in the car park.
She tells Oscar that Julie told her that Brad hit her. Oscar doesn’t take this
well and goes to confront Brad, he goes to Brads house, when he knocks he
sees the curtain open slightly then a few seconds later the door opens. Oscar
asked if he could come inside and brad lets him. They sit down and chat for a
while then Oscar brings it up, Brad denies it at first then admits to it, then
realises he looks very suspicious. He tries to tell Oscar that he doesn’t know
where she is but Oscar just gets angrier, Brad then says that he thought he
saw her step dad’s car there so assumed she got home okay. Oscar shrugs
this off at first but then realises it’s not likely to be Brad, although he's still
mad that he hit his sister he needs his help.
9. ACT 3
• Oscar gets home and waits for his step dad to get back. When he arrives
Oscar goes to the front door and waits for him, when he walks in Oscar
immediately tells him that Brad saw his car in the car park of the forest that
night. He denies being there and says that it could have been any car. He
then questions why Brad was there that night anyway and starts to blame
it all on Brad, he then gets mad and picks up his car keys, Oscar says he’s
coming with him and then they drive to Brads house. When they get there
Brad opens the door as Oscar warned him they were coming, Brad steps
outside as they approach then Brad says he knows about the Step Dad
cheating on Oscars Mum, Oscar thinks for a second and realises it makes
sense, Julie met with Brad to tell him and Gary (Step Dad) found out and
went to stop her, when he got to her she had already told Brad so he got
angry and accidently killed her. Oscar punches him and calls the police. The
film ends when the phone picks up and Oscar says “police”.
12. Key Characters
• Jamie (Fraser) - The leader of the group, he comes up with the plans.
He is also the most grown up one.
• Bradley (Dylan) – The stupid one of the group, he makes the most
mistakes.
• Samuel (Samuel) – The expert at robbing people, the other
responsible one.
• Joshua (Max) – He is good at stealing as well however usually tries to
steal too much.
13. Target Audience
• The target audience for this film would be a majority of teenagers/ young adults
due to the nature of the storyline. The four main characters are also around the
ages of 17/18, therefore people of the same age will find it easier to relate and
would understand the humour of the film more so than an adult.
• The age range would be from 13-25, there isn’t going to be anything too violent
or rude in the film therefore you just have the aspect of crime that shouldn’t be
shown to young children.
• On the NRS scale the main audience would be D/E due to the fact the audience
I’m targeting are students that could be unemployed. Other audiences will also
enjoy the film however D/E would relate with the film the most. On the 4c’s scale
the most likely audience to watch it would be either the mainstreamer or the
explorer. This is because the mainstream will be a primary audience for when it’s
on YouTube, and the explorer will enjoy it as it’s an interesting idea, and as an
explorer they would want to watch something new.
14. Form and Style
• This film will be shot on a DSLR Canon 200D I will use other
equipment like a tripod, Steadicam and I will also try to use some
lights so that the film looks more professional. I will be aiming for the
film to look like a professional short film like, Deep it or Shiro’s Story.
15. Marketplace
• This film would only be a standalone as it’s just for a project however
could be written to have multiple parts. This film will be uploaded to
YouTube meaning that it doesn’t have a set market, it would fit in well
with stereotypical short films on YouTube as it fits the same kind of
time frame.
16. ACT 1
• The film starts as the group are sat in a car getting ready to rob some houses, they talk about the
plan and make sure everyone is okay with everything. They then move towards the houses that
they are going to rob. When they get there they chat for a minute until they realise Bradley fell
asleep and doesn’t really know the plan. Without really thinking about it they just get on like
normal. They exit the car and get out into the road, they gear up so that they are ready to rob a
house each then they will move to a separate neighbourhood and repeat it all again a few times.
They never take a lot of money or items they just take a little so that it doesn’t instantly scream
theft. They’ve been working like this for at least 5 month now so they know what they are doing.
They give themselves 10 minutes to get in the house take some money and get back to the car, if
they’ve been gone for 11 minutes then everyone at the car gets in and they drive to the meeting
point, they wait for at least 20 minutes, until they decide to track them down. This has never
happened before. The scene will then cut out before they rob any houses. We then get a scene of
the same friends with an extra person (James) they are just talking and playing Xbox in a living
room. We then learn the origin of why they started to rob houses, it wasn’t complicated they all
wanted more money, apart from Bradley who just happy to do it. We then see this extra person
agree to it as well. We then get a scene where they plan how they will actually rob the houses
without getting caught, they came up with the idea of no taking anything obvious, and doing it
very quickly. They came up with a 20 minute window to get in the house and take a little bit of
money like ÂŁ20-ÂŁ30 at a time, then leave the house and meet up.
17. ACT 2
• We get a scene of the whole group meeting up including James Get into the same car from the earlier shots. As they all get in
James lets everyone else get in first then falls into the car. We get a few shots from inside the car showing how nervous everyone
is. When they arrive they are all in hoodies, they put their hoods on and tap the roof of the car, they say 20 minutes be back here.
We then start following Jamie towards his first house, he stops before he gets to the house and takes a breath then continues. We
get shots of everyone getting into a different house then the last shot is James, he’s running towards something then the shot
widens and we see the car, he gets in the car without robbing a house. We get a few more shots of the rest of them robbing the
houses and getting out, they then slowly start getting back to the car. Last to arrive after 23 minutes is Bradley, he couldn’t
remember where the car was parked. When they all got back to Jamie’s house they showed what they managed to steal. Jamie
Puts down about £50, Samuel throws down £40, Joshua drops £70, Bradley then put down £5 and James doesn’t put down
anything. They ask him what happened and he told them he couldn’t do it and he was just doing it because they are all his friends,
he didn’t want to steal. He tries to convince them too stop doing it but they ended up having a huge argument and James left.
•
• 5 months later
•
• We then get a shot of Jamie and his girlfriend arguing in another room, there isn’t any sound. Jamie comes out and phones Joshua.
Shot changes to a scene at Joshua’s house. Jamie starts telling him that his girlfriend found out about how he gets his money and
wants him to get out. Joshua defends the crime but he knows Jamie has already made up his mind. They talk for some more time
then Jamie leaves. It cuts to a scene of Jamie and his girlfriend, they are talking about taking all the money the group made and
moving somewhere else. Jamie comes up with a plan to try and steal all the money. He would rob houses in a close proximity to
his friends’ houses and sneak into their house and steal their money.
18. ACT 3
• This scene is the same as the first one, the whole scene plays through and then carries on past
the point it stopped before, while everyone else is robbing houses Jamie goes to Bradley’s house
first, he breaks in and finds no money, he looks for a while but couldn’t find anything. He makes
his way back to the car, he takes some money out of his wallet and tells everyone that he only got
ÂŁ20 from that house as he waves around his own money. They get into the car and everyone
seems a lot more serious and quite than usual, they get to the next stop and this time Jamie goes
to Samuel’s house, the same thing happens, there isn’t any money to be seen only £5. When
Jamie gets back to the car everyone is waiting for him they all have a normal amount of money
but Jamie just shows the ÂŁ5, Samuel walks up to Jamie and snatches the ÂŁ5 out his hand looks at
it and then gives it back and says he should have found more. Finally they make the last stop and
Jamie goes towards Joshua’s house, he looks at the house and the back door is left a little bit
open, Jamie walks in and gets attacked from the side. He falls to the floor and struggles against
the attacker then we get a shot of the attacker and its Joshua, he punches Jamie a few more
times, they fight for a minute then both get up a bit dazed Joshua tells him that while they’ve
been fighting Bradley and Samuel have gone to Jamie’s house to steal everything he’s saved, We
then get a shot of Jamie running out of his house towards the car, the car is gone. He runs all the
way back home, he gets back and his car is on the drive with the doors open and engine still
running, he runs inside and his house has been turned upside down. His phone then goes off and
it’s his girlfriend, she explains that she told the others what Jamie was planning.
