What is creativity?
Let's try to give a definition and see how and why user experience is important also in non conventional fields like Embedded Systems and OSs.

A brief overview of "Design Thinking" as practiced at Stanford's d school, compared to the "Lean Startup" model from the book of the same name by Eric Reis.
Design thinking for Startups: An introductionArchana Devdas
This presentation begins by questioning our approach to business today and explores the idea of design and branding for startups. Presentation made @headstart.
Marcus Gosling, Highway1.io , @marceire
In mass-production, you only have one chance to get the product right. The in-flexibility and expense of the physical product supply-chain prohibits an experimental, iterative approach. Inspired by lean startup, hardware entrepreneurs are developing new tools and methodologies for exploring and validating their product ideas prior to mass manufacture. 3D printing and off-the-shelf development kits are being used to support rapid product iteration and low-volume early adopter sales. Existing commercial products are being hacked by entrepreneurs to prototype and explore completely new experiences. Prototypes are becoming instrumented to collect data on engagement and usage patterns in the field. Illustrated with case studies from the Highway1.io hardware startup accelerator this talk will share a range of emergent patterns and best practices in lean hardware development.

Design Thinking is a design methodology that provides a solution-based approach to solving problems. It’s extremely useful in tackling complex problems that are ill-defined or unknown, by understanding the human needs involved, by re-framing the problem in human-centric ways, by creating many ideas in brainstorming sessions, and by adopting a hands-on approach in prototyping and testing.
This talk will explore three key components to creating great products: understanding customer needs, rapidly prototyping and testing ideas, and true cross-team collaboration.
- How to discover customer needs through observation
- Rapidly test and iterate on new ideas without wasting development cycles
- Fostering cross-team collaboration that leads to customer empathy and a unified vision

In the physical world, designers like Jonathan Ives are credited with the success of their products. So why do so many digital companies favour technology over design? In this session Andy will explain how start-ups can use design for competitive advantage.
Design has slowly shifted from outcome oriented process to a thinking oriented process that does problem solving.
We made a presentation at Lounge 47, which is a upcoming startup incubation center.

SSBMInnovation Business Model Design Workshop-1Antony Upward
Presentation for first workshop (May 15, 2013) to design the business model for the crowd-funded collaborative project which will create the "book" / toolkit for Strongly Sustainable Business Model Innovation (http://www.SSMBG.com).
As usual, recommended downloading the presentation and viewing in slideshow mode with the speakers notes handy
These slides were part of a 30 minute presentation. The focus was on creating common (design thinking) ground between design, marketing and sales people inside a company.
These slides include a bit about me but mostly function as a backdrop I refer to during my oral presentation.
I do not read my slides :-)

Creativity, and design, is a major force that can shape the experiences we live in our world. We need to understand why creativity is not supported, and nurtured, by the business environment. At the very same time we need to define what creativity is.
Failure is not an option, or, why you need to ask 'Why?" more often.Alessandro Galetto
We should answer a simple question: "Why companies are built and managed in the way we know?".
In this presentation I will give my answer from an historic, scientific and economic perspective, and, at the same, I will try to show why other models are possible.
Different organisational models are not only possible, but needed when the current models are causing so much pain in modern companies.
We need to reinvent the way company works as well as we must reinvent the definition of career in the 21st century.
We have so many tools and the higher amount of technology that we can use to shape the future of our companies. Which is the reason why we are not doing anything about it?
Even if the presentation is definitely focused on the Italian market it contains elements and ideas that have a broader ranged of applicability.
And, as always, it's not too serious.
I used this presentation for my talk at the Better Software 2013 conference in Florence.
This was my keynote delivered to the Better Embedded 2013 conference in Florence.
A new renaissance is what we need to be successful as companies and the startup and maker movement is the perfect fit for this kind of revolution.
New business models and a new approach to companies organisation is the only way to success in these new economic landscape.
If you have a great User Experience team and you deliver great stuff to your internal or internal clients that's not enough to guarantee the success of your product or service.
There are so many things in a big organization that can dilute the value of your job.
Success can easily turn in failure if you don't have knowledge of the hurdles.
In this presentation I am talking about this.
Again, this is a real visual presentation. Most of the value was in the speech. I will try to record something to deliver the full value.
Messaging looks like a saturated market for Mobile Network Operators.
Actually we should try to look at new messaging opportunities out there.
The internet of things is becoming a reality and the number of objects and applications that can send messages is definitely huge.
In this presentation I will show some of the thing that have attracted my attention recently.
Stimulating a new generation of mobile internet applicationsAlessandro Galetto
Where should we look when looking at innovation in the mobile space?
In this presentation I am trying to show some trends that can influence the development on the next generation of mobile applications.
I think that we need to rethink how Social Networks are consumed in mobility.
There are several approach to this and this presentation is my personal view on the subject.
This is the presentation I have at the ExperienceCamp09 in Milan.
Tha main objective of the presentations is to explain which are the difficulties we need to deal with when thinking about mobile user experience at the operator level.
Huge number of mobiles, market speed, and flexibility of the vendors are some of the elements we need to cope with on a day by day basis.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
