2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
2. Three effective tips to avoid problems experienced in a business meeting.
1. The key to a successful meeting is to show security. If you are sure, others will be attracted to you and
your message.
3. Three effective tips to avoid problems experienced in a business meeting.
2. Be polite. If you treat others with politeness, you will maintain the serenity of the meeting and make the
atmosphere less tense.
4. Three effective tips to avoid problems experienced in a business meeting.
3. Never say you don’t know. One thing is to avoid improvising and another is to demonstrate
unprofessionalism, you do not have to tell others that you do not know, you can indicate that you will soon
have the answer, that you will investigate or ask them to see if you could clarify the doubt in another way .
5. Three proposals to have effective meeting.
1.- Practicing your speech will allow
you to master your subject and
demonstrate security.
2.- Being polite is the beginning of
your speech is one of the key
moments to attract attention.
3.- Focus on the topic and the
explanation of what one has
professionalism and knowledge.
Do not deviate from wanting to
explain things you do not know.
6. Forbes Leadership
1.- MakeThe Meeting Actionable
Send people the agenda and
anything else they can read before
the meeting so you can use the
meeting to focus on what actions
and decisions need to be made to
move things forward.
2.- Invite Fewer People
Limiting the meeting attendees to
those who most need to be there
will be double time saving for your
staff. They don't have to spend time
in a non-essential meeting, and they
can spend more time on essential
work. Plus, it allows you to run more
efficient and focused meetings with
just the key stakeholders.
7. Forbes Leadership
3.- OpenWith A Bang
Start with a focused "attention getter" that will put your meeting in context.
Before going over agenda or thank yous, ask a provocative question, state an
interesting statistic, quote someone or tell a story. Make sure these connect to the
"why" or bottom line of your meeting and address "what's in it for them." This will
wake up the creative part of listeners' minds and lead to more engagement.
