The World Trade Center Memorial
World Trade Center Memorial The World Trade Center Memorial commemorates the September
11, 2001,attacks and the bombing that occurred at the World Trade Center in 1993. The memorial
can be found at the former location of the Twin Towers in New York. These fountains that rest in
the footprints of the towers are a powerful reminders of our nations history and all the lives that
were lost that day. This memorial is ultimately successful because it evokes emotion, whether that
be sadness or possibly a feeling of serenity or stillness. The memorial was commissioned by Lower
Manhattan Development Corporation and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. An
international design competition was held in 2003 for selecting the design for... Show more content

I don t care if Peter is described as this or that, he says. It s my design. The announcement of
Michael Arad s design winning the competition was the start of controversy for this memorial.
Daniel Libeskind was furious that he won because Arad s design completely destroyed the vision
he had for the space. I will fight this! he yelled during his first meeting about it with the LMDC. I
am the people s architect! Daniel want the slurry wall to be present in the memorial and have the
whole site set below the main street. Arad felt that this would disconnect the memorial from the life
of the city. His opinion won and the slurry wall can still be viewed below the memorial in the
museum. That was only the beginning of conflict between architects in this process of construction.
Many victims groups hated Arad s design as well. They hated the fact that fountains when
underground instead of rising into the sky. The feeling of absence made them uncomfortable. The
idea of absence is common in counter memorials. How can someone depict the incomprehensible
events with a comprehensive memorial? A primary solution to the problem has been the formalized
absence given by deconstructivism. I think the use of absences is what gives this memorial
strength. 9/11 was a major day in our nation s history, therefore it should have an immense
memorial. The reflecting pool mark the footprints of the north and south towers that fell. Each are

Wireless Technologies
Wireless Technologies
Introduction
As wireless technology has begun to mature, the demand for wireless products has increased as
new applications for the technology are realized. One application for wireless technology at the
U.S. Naval Academy is to use the wireless capability to enhance classroom instruction. Currently
the Electrical Engineering and Physics Departments have wireless access points and wireless
laptops/desktops available for classroom instruction. The purpose of this report is to provide the
technical research necessary to aid decision makers in determining which wireless technologies the
Naval Academy should invest.
Background
In a wireless network, computers communicate with the network through a radio ... Show more

Each access point can practically service between 32 to 64 users, depending upon manufacturer.
The bandwidth will be shared by all users. The number of radio channels associated with each
technology will vary by technology and product manufacturer. Multiple channels allows for
multiple access points to be collocated in order to provide access for a larger number of users.
Current USNA Uses
The Electrical Engineering Department currently uses the Dell suite with a wireless access point
and 24 wireless laptops. They use the wireless network for in class projects where the use of either
simulation (OPNET) or design software (PSPICE) is being taught and used.
The Physics department is using a LinkSys 802.11b wireless access point and LinkSys wireless
NIC cards with desktop computers. Their primary use is for internet access.
Recommendation
The best technology system for the Naval Academy would be the 802.11a standard. It has 54
Mbps throughput capability as well as adequate range, sufficient for classroom use. Since the 54
Mbps is shared amongst all users, it would allow, at a minimum, 2 Mbps for each user in a class of
20 midshipmen operating simultaneously. It also has higher data rates at comparable distances

The Kite Runner By Khaled Hosseini.published Essay
The Kite Runner is the kind of novel portraying the common issues of the lives of parents and
children. The Kite Runner is the first novel by Afghan American author Khaled Hosseini.Published
by Riverhead Books, it recounts the narratives of Amir, a young boy from the WazirAkbar Khan
district of Kabul, whose closest companion is Hassan, son of his father s servant Hazara. The story
is situated against a backdrop of turbulent and volatile events, from the fall of Afghanistans
monarchy through the Soviet military intercession, the mass migration of refugees to Pakistan and
the United States, and the rise of the Talibanregime. Mr.Hosseine attempts to draw out the
distinctions that both the parents and children are confronting in their lives through this characters
in the story.
Hosseini has commented that he considers The Kite Runner to be a father son story, stressing the
familial aspects of the narrative, a component that he continued to utilize as a part of his later
works.Themes of guilt and redemption feature include conspicuously in the novel, with the essential
scene depicting an act of savagery against Hassan that Amir neglects to prevent.
The later half of the book centers on Amir s endeavours to make ammends for this transgression by
rescuing Hassan s son over two decades later. Amir s father fails to comprehend his son and his
emotions at numerous points in the story. He fails to comprehend the bond of the two children and
their genuine bond of companionship.

Social Work Intervention
INTRODUCTION
School social work and its purpose is first discussed in Chapter 3. Before 21st century we are not
sure why it did not have formal position. However, in order to demise child labor and include
cultural sensitivity for immigrants; school social work began to take its form (Jarolmen, 2014). The
school social worker has been charged with lifelong learning to increase professional
development, awareness of local, state and federal laws; as well as the position to link services
to students, families and co educators. This practice behavior will allow the school social worker
to ensure that every child will receive the tools necessary for educational success. School social

46). Standard 4 (a) of the NC Professional School Social Work Standards 2004, informs you that as
a professional school social worker you must be knowledgeable of strength based interventions. The
school social worker must also include the support of other stake holders within the educational
process of the student. For instance, principals, administrators, counselors and other support
personnel may be solicited by the school social worker to implement Positive Behavior Support
(PBS) which is an intervention used to deter negative behavior of a student demonstrating signs of
behavior disorder even before it becomes a problem (Merchant, Anderson, Caldarelli, Young, Young,
2009 as cited in Jarolmen, 2014).In addition, NC Standard 4 (a) elaborates that school social
workers must exercise assessments to correctly establish the need of the student as well as identify
service gaps within the school setting. Authors Scott, Nelson, Zabala, (2003), explains the process
of using assessments such as the Functional Behavior Assessment . The Functional Behavior
Assessment is used to develop a behavioral intervention plan for the student as needed. This
assessment is just one of many assessments utilized within the school setting (Scott,

Increasing pressures of cutting costs and improving the quality of care in health care services
influences the management of the health care organization to implement the generally accepted
accounting principles (GAAP) within their daily routines. Generally accepted accounting principles
(GAAP) are a set of uniform accounting guidelines health care organizations follow to determine
the financial position of an organization. According to Finkler, Kovner, and Jones (2007) the most
common and important GAAP are as follows: (a) Entity concept, (b) Going concern concept, (c)

However, the materiality principle assists the professional judgment of a manager with these
challenges on deciphering whether or not to deem an item as material. Usually if an item has an
impact on the income, or affects the decision making of the professional using the financial
statement, the item is material. Another GAAP is the full disclosure principle. This principle states
that it is imperative to include all information in a financial statement of an entity that would affect
the reader s understanding of the statements. This principle also includes the reporting of any
current accounting policies as well as any changes of them. The last GAAP is the consistency
principle. The consistency principle suggests that once an organization agrees upon the utilization
of an accounting principle or method, they should consistently use the same method for future
fiscal years. This will provide a more accurate comparison for the individuals dealing with the
massive amounts of numbers and transactions each fiscal year. In conclusion, a health care
organization s primary focus may be to provide quality care services; however the financial
wellbeing and viability is critical to meet that focus. A substantial portion of U.S. Generally
Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S. GAAP) applies specifically to reporting entities that are
involved in the business of healthcare. Therefore, the generally accepted accounting principles

Teen Activity Persuasive Essay
By: Eduardo Gutierrez Teens in todays society are often at risk of abusing substances, getting into
trouble, and causing violent scenes. They also are still trying to discover who they are, what
interests them, who to hang around with, and just discover themselves. But an issue people debate
about is the actions that teens choose to do. Many teens often hangout in groups at a variety of
locations such as houses, parks, the mall, and other places such as a recreational center. Although
teens may not see harm in being out and about with friends, adults may think otherwise. Some
parents may be worried where there kids are or what they re doing, other parents may just say, Let

A successful recreational center is the Howell Recreational Center and Park they have a variety of
tasks and sports for teens to participate in that could appeal to many people, they have classes,
programs, sports, trips, and other activities. A teen recreational center can proide many benefits
such as positive youth development, a supervised substance free place to socialize with peers,
healthy activity prevention programs, promote ownership and responsibility, provide community
service, provide teens with leadership roles, and give teens a voice. In todays society teens are
often associated with drinking, doing drugs, and causing trouble. If a recreation center was built
what would be stopping teens from bringing drugs and alcohol there? They may even be getting
more teens to participate in such wreckless behavior. In the past year about 70.6% of teens have
consumed alcohol and thats just highschool seniors. Also, in order to even have a recreational
center you would first need an advisory committee and later a board of directors. For you to have
these you would need to get voulenteers from the community to take part in these groups, which
community members may not want to partake in or support. To even consider having a recreational
center you would first have to see what people in the

Dehumanization In Blade Runner
Assigntment 3 Cities and cultures
Cities future
Zombies and androids have both been used as productive ways of imagining city futures. Develop
an argument in which you use one of these two tropes as a conceptual tool for critiquing the current
direction of urban identity, either by revealing a problem or by articulating an alternative.
Dystopian science fiction films of the past have frequently presented a critical dystopia, by
projecting future cities that perpetuates corporate capitalism s prominent features. Examples of
these features are urban decay, commodification, overcrowding, highly skewed disparities of wealth
and poverty, and authoritarian policing. An example of a Dystopian science fiction filmthat project

It opposes the values of love, empathy and community with the innovative forms of technology and
social life under advanced capitalism. The binary opposition between man and technology is
represented by three characters in the plot: Deckard, apparently a human. Roy, an android who
fears death and longs to be human and Rachel, who thinks she is human and who enters a
relationship with a human. These replicants represent capitalism s oppressive characteristics and
also to a certain extent the rebellion against exploitation. Deckard s realization of how the Tyrell
Corporation exploits him, and the rebellion of the replicants against their oppressors, is the ultimate
critique of capitalism. Since both sides killer and killed reject their status as servants of the
corporation and refuse further exploitation. (Kellner, et all) The corporation in the Blade Runner
that is used to illustrate capitalism s destructive characteristics is The Tyrell Coporation. The Tyrell
Corporation invents replicants to have a controllable labor force that will perform difficult and
dangerous tasks. Similarly applicable to today, where capitalism turns individuals into machines
that have only the function of productivity. Ironically, the replicants form a human rebellion; while
the actual human characters in the film seem to submit to corporate domination and live a life like
the corporations sees them to. It seems as if the humans have become so dehumanized that the
replicants form a rebellion against their oppressor instead of human beings. Capitalism has
dehumanized the population to such an extent, that technology is actually more

of his NHL career winning many Hart Trophies as league MVP as well as Stanley Cups. He was a

Bobby Orr redefined what it is like to be a defenseman. He played for the Boston Bruins and won
eight Norris Trophies as best defenseman and many Hart Trophies as well. His career was
limited due to bad knees. He would rush up in the offensive zone and basically be another forward

Governor, Tom Corbett took action and warned students to refrain from any violence and should
monitor their behavior. The crowd initially was a peaceful demonstration against Coach Paterno s
firing. The crowd quickly turned from a peaceful demonstration to a riotous mob, State College
police said in a statement. The mob attempted to light vehicles on fire, and tore down light posts
and street signs. (Klopman) University officials reminded the students that their actions are
affecting the family of the victims and other victims in the community that were sexually abused.
Assistant coach, Mike McQueary testified to the grand jury in December 2010 that he saw
Sandusky sodomize a naked boy of about 10 years old in the football team s locker room shower
in 2001. The jury quickly saw his testimony more credible than Curley s and Schultz s. Because of
this, Penn State placed Mike on administrative leave. McQueary testified in a grand jury
investigation that eventually led to child sex abuse charges being filed against former defensive
coordinator Jerry Sandusky. The ensuing scandal brought down longtime coach Joe Paterno, who
was fired by university trustees amid growing criticism that he should have done more to stop the
alleged abuse. (Marklein) McQueary changed his story saying he e mailed his friends and

Pyramidal Cells (PC)
Pyramidal cells(PC) are the source of excitatory input to the cortex, similarly the granule cell in the
cerebellum, core and matrix thalamocortical cells in the thalamus, and by STN in the basal ganglia.
GABA is responsible for keeping a tab on excitatory activity in the brain and prevent the occurrence
of a seizure (9). The process of surround inhibition occurs at every station(i.e. in the spinal cord,
brainstem, thalamus, somatosensory cortex) for discriminative active touch and is regulated by
GABA interneuron. These interneurons allow only the strongest input to go through resulting in
precision and make it possible for two distinct points stimulated on the skin to be interpreted by
adjusting the effective receptive field size(23).This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The inhibitory control is provided by basket cells which are GABA ergic. The GABA release is
activated by incoming glutamate activity (7). Inhibition mediated by basket cells is enhanced
when excitability increases during preparation prior to movement(motor set)(7). Basket cell
activity helps control the output of PC and describing the discharge pattern of these cells. Double
bouquet cells(DBC) are responsible for restricting the activity of minicolumn and preventing a
spread of activity(7). They also inhibit basal and apical dendrites of the CM cell (7,11). Top down
influence mediated by thalamocortical connections and cortico cortical connections result in
activation of local GABA ergic interneurons and glutamatergic neurons, inhibition of the basket
cells/chandelier/DBC results in disinhibition of the CM cells leading to the conversion of No Go
to Go (7). The position of DBC enables its role in controlling the horizontal influence of
overlapping PC(7). Recent studies indicate critical role of inhibitory interneurons located in L1

Research about inflation is based on Inflation Theory. One of the famous inflation theory is the
Quantity Theory that inflation can occur when there is increase the amount of money in circulation
and the public s expectations of price increases in the future.
Research on the impact of inflation to employment rate is based on Phillips Curve Theori, that said
when the unemployment rate is high, the inflation rate is low, and vice versa, if the unemployment
rate is low, then the inflation rate is high.
III.Literature Review
Research on the impact of budget deficits policy to inflation has been done a lot, including
research that conducted by Darrat (1985) using data from the United States in the 1960s , and the
results showed that the growth of money and the budget deficit policy in the U.S. affects inflation

The Correlation Between Two Hardships
Imagine your older sister was just diagnosed with Leukemia. How does that make you feel? How
do you think she feels? I wanted to research the thoughts and feelings someone who has cancer
might go through. From the research, I found depression to play a big role in the outcome of the
patient s therapies and quality of life with cancer. In fact, a study shows there is a direct
correlation between the two, which is quite fascinating; it amazes me how the brain, the body,
and the unconscious mind work together. This topic hits home when it comes to cancer. Sadly,
we have all lost someone to the deadly disease or know someone who is battling it right now. I ve
always wondered what my loved one might be feeling. Do they believe they can fight cancerous
cells or will they succumb to the illness and fall into depression? I find it upsetting to see the second
choice happen, but what if there was something we could do? These questions lead me to research
the correlation between two hardships: cancer and depression. In the event of being diagnosed with
cancer, one may experience many emotions, from anger to hatred, or sadness to even the feeling of
guilt. Along with emotional strain, a patient will experience treatments and therapies to help fight
the cancerous cells. The type of treatment cancer patients receive has multiple side effects,
including depression as a dominant effect. From these two different yet relatively relatable
conditions, many clinical trials

Essay The Effectiveness of the Five Year Plans
The Effectiveness of the Five Year Plans
Stalin introduced the Five Year Plans. This brought all industry under state control and all
industrial development was planned by the state. The state would decide what would be produced,
how much would be produced and where it should be produced. An organisation called Gosplan
was created to plan all this out.
В· The first five year plan was from 1928 to 1932.
В· The second five year plan was from 1933 to 1937.
В· The third five year plan was from 1938 to 1941 when the war interrupted it.

Ex peasants were used as skilled workers. This did not work at all, despite their valiant efforts, a
lot of factory machines were damaged because they didn t know how to use them, also the

Factories decided to inflating their production figures and the products produced were
frequently so poor that they could not be used, even if the factory producing those goods
appeared to be meeting its target. The punishment for failure was severe. A manager could be
executed as an enemy of the people . Workers could be sent to a prison camp in Siberia. Nobody
was allowed to criticise the five year plans as they were Stalin s idea.
Life was very hard for industrial workers. Their pay was poor and there was barely anything they
could spend their money on even if they had any. Consumer goods were not produced. Working
conditions were very poor and dangerous and the hours were long. The homes that were provided
were poor.
They often worked hard because the young workers were still idealistic and dreaming. The
concept of communism was still making them believe. They called Stalin Uncle Joe and they
were willing to suffer a few years of hardship if they were going to get to the promised land of a
better society.

Dna Database Ethics
How would you feel about a DNA database having record of every man, woman and child in the
United States? Many questions are raised on whether it is ethical to have, safe and beneficial. A
national DNA database could help solve crimes, but it also allows for thousands of innocent
people to be at risk. Many argue against having a DNA database and many are for a database. I am
going to argue against having a national DNA databasebecause it has potential of being hacked, it
is a violation of individual rights and DNA is not 100% accurate. A national DNA database would
be under control by the government, but is the government able to create such a secure system to

Though there are many arguments against having a DNA database there are also reasons to
have a DNA database. DNA is one of the leading factors in putting criminals behind bars. When
DNA is evident in a criminal case, it makes that case a lot stronger. With a database of all citizens
DNA it can help law enforcement catch criminals to make communities safer. DNA will not only
be able to help solve crimes ongoing now and for the future but to help solve past crimes. DNA
also allows for scientist to use the valuable information for research to get a better understanding
of health and safety for individuals and to help link people who have the same medical
condition. With an entire database of all people, it allows for the system to not be
discriminatory. Minorities make up the vast majority of the criminal justice system. With every
race, gender and ethnicity in the system it opens up the ability for all people to be at risk for
being in the system with DNA placing them for a crime and making it harder to get away with
one. There is also a possibility that having a DNA database will lower crime rates. People who
feel they can get away with crimes now, will have a higher chance of getting caught. Those who
fear getting caught because the government and police agencies have their DNA will be less likely
to commit crimes. Mark Kleiman a professor who deals with criminal justice stated, DNA
databases reduce crime rates,

Compare And Contrast Leonalo Messi And Cristiano Ronaldo
Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are definitely the best soccer players in the world. They
dominate world soccer for eight years. There are many comments but still nothing definitive about
who is better. I will do my best to compare and contrast them to explain why I prefer Ronaldo than
Messi in two areas: their styles and technical abilities.
To an extent, their styles are determined by their own careers. For Messi, he came to Barcelona
from Newell s Old Boys at the age of 13, with the club helping him for a growth hormone
deficiency that threatened to limit his growth and paying for a treatment ( Lionel Messi vs

ability to hold himself in the air creates huge threats in the air to opposing defense line; his
strong shooting strength helps his long drives become the effective means to break the blanket

Ronaldo s powerful ability to adapt, strong will, indomitable spirit and self discipline to his own

The Prevalence of Younger Students Lying to Health...
Communication is a functional, purposeful, and strategic aspect of human socialization. Individuals
have the ability make conscious decisions to control their expressive language to manipulate the
perceived interpretations of others (Burgoon, Callister, Hunsaker, 445). As people acquire language,
they develop sensitivity to the Gricean maxims of conversation. The first of these maxims is
Quantity I , or the failure to provide enough information. The second of these maxims is Quantity II
, or the provision of too much or redundant information. The third of these maxims is Quality , or
veracity (Siegal, Iozzi, and Surian, 2009). These three Gricean maxims of conversation alone
encompass the prevalence of various forms of lying in the context of human communication. The
significance of lying is that it can change various outcomes that negatively impact various
circumstances. In the realm of health care, patients may lieto health professionals for a number of
reasons including to acquire unnecessary or excessive medications, to avoid embarrassment or
judgment, and to reduce expensive medical charges that may accumulate over time. No matter
how well intentioned the doctor faced with a patient in need of help may be, it is he who has the
advantage resulting from the knowledge he has (the truth) and his skills: a disproportion occurs
between these two parties (Tanasiewicz, 2005, 16). Regardless of the motivation patients may have
for lying, they may be jeopardizing

The Piano Lesson Essay
It s being here now that s important. There s no past and there s no future. Time is a very
misleading thing. All there is ever, is the now. We can gain experience from the past, but we can t
relive it; and we can hope for the future, but we don t know if there is one. (George Harrison)
Although things can come from the past, they must be put to use in the know, and although we like
to plan for the future, we need to try and make an impact now. What George Harrison is trying to
say is that while it is nice to try to set things up for the future, we need to use what was given to us
from the past, to try and better the lives of other immediately. In The PianoLesson, by August

The Snow Man By Wallace Stevens
In The Snow Man by modernist poet Wallace Stevens, the idea is brought up that one must have a
certain mind to see things a certain way; in his poem, Stevens explores the idea of perception,
challenging the realities commonly seen, with one common scene often interpreted. The poem
describes a scene in the midst of winter s gloom, then shifts into the perceptionof this scene, saying
how in reality there is no gloom. Stevens mentions how one must have a mindof winter (line 1) to
refuse internal psychological interpretations on the outside world. But at the same time, he is
leaning to the other side, saying how difficult something like that is. In an earlier line, Stevens
says to regard (line 2), but he laters shifts to behold. (line 5) The word behold implies awe, and
the words that follow it, the junipers shagged with ice/ the spruces rough in the distant glitter/ of
the January sun; (lines 5 7) seem to evoke a sense of melancholy. He follows that set up with a
sort of obvious fact tone in his next line by saying and not to think of any misery in the sound of
the wind. (lines 7 8) Stevens is stating that one must have a mind of winter, or a mind that is like
winter, in order to look at all the desolation, and not think of precisely that. But he uses language
that sets up a very lonely mood, which is the reality of what he is trying to say. As something is
seen and perceived, minds interpret it accordingly to what they feel; vise versa, something
commonly associated

Learning s Reflection On The Experience Of Learning
Back when I was a child, learning to me was memorising multiplication tables and grammar rules.
That perception altered during my university years, when learning meant observing, researching,
gaining experience through trial and error. I believe that it is the grand experience during my
university days, which showed me that the time honoured custom of reading and remembering
never did help me. I came to realise that learningis a mind altering process where, action during a
mind engaging activity, begs you to learn, unlearn and re learn.
I have also learnt through experience that learning cannot happen in a one size fits all approach.
Each child has a combination of different intelligence and learning style (Howard Gardner). Some
children would portray a balanced perspicacity, while others show certain dominating traits of
intelligence. It is not up to the child to identify these traits and harness it. In fact the onus is on the
teacher to identify and draw out the true potential of the learner, in a way the learner feels
motivated and challenged.
Traditional syllabi and formulaic methods of teaching aren t engaging and contradict many theories
I ve learnt from this course. I believe that learning happens when the process is learner centred,
wherein learners construct on previous knowledge (Bruner) with plenty of audio visual stimuli and
the right amount of intervention from the facilitator (William Black), thus maximising the learning
potential. Learning happens at one s own pace (Maria Montessori), that which is based on
experience (John Dewey, Kolb s Experiential learning theory) and the learner should be encouraged
to be curious enough to pursue bigger questions.
I found some of the following teaching strategies to be of great value enhancing the learning
process.
Group work: Group work aids in students working together maximising their own and each other
s learning (Johnson, Johnson Smith 1991). Group work allows productive in class discussions
that can be successful in large classrooms. This has to follow with an exit card or a 3 2 1. This
was also evident in my observation of EP, where the learners learnt from their peers and were
confident to share with other peers thus making it a successful

My Family Obstacles
Have you heard of a family crest before? A family crest is a shield that has a motto, symbols,
and a name. The symbols of the shield is something that would represent your family. Back in the
olden days they would use a family crest to kinda spy on families and they could find
information about families that they would not want to tell. The three thing I put on my family
crest are a elephant, cross, and a flower. The first thing I put on my family crest is a elephant .
The reason I put a elephant on my family crest is they are strong, and they are smart. I also
picked a elephant because the symbolize strength and power. I picked a elephant because I am

The Scientific revolution and The Enlightenment period overlapped by a hundred years and were

One of his oppositions was Thomas Hobbes who argued that people needed authoritarian rule and
were selfish and evil. This was also the era that Women s Rights and equality began to gain
popularity.
Visual arts took on the rococo style during the Enlightenment period. Gardens of the rococo type
(which were popular amongst the leisured elite) imitated those of Chinese gardens of the far east.
Rose and pastel colors were popular throughout the era in paintings and decorations. Jean Honore
Fragonard was considered to be the highlight of all rococo artists, he created flirtatious and highly
sexual paintings for the era. Neoclassical architecture was revived during this era, bringing about
amazing pieces of work such as the Arch of Triumph in Paris (at the end of the period). Leonardo s
contribution reflects an excellent example of art and how it was affected by the scientific
revolution in early modern science. The superior quality and complexity of his Oeuvre, Leonardo
was recognized as an extraordinary artist already from the Renaissance. When scholars turned to his
scientific research in modern times, they privileged his anatomical and botanical drawings, and
invested heavily in the notion of scientific naturalism , which was partially supported by the
artist s professed emphasis on direct observation. Such a focus relegated to the background

Budget And Financial Issues Of The United States
BUDGET AND FINANCIAL ISSUES At its formation, the UN had inherited financial problems
from its predecessor the League of Nations (McDermott, 2000). Seventy years down the lane,
financial problems have been at the core of the UN activities in peacekeeping missions. Thus, the
issue of budgetary crisis with regards to financing old and new peacekeepingoperations continue to
persist. According to McDermott (2000), peacekeeping have been both the making and near
breaking of the organization. On one hand, peacekeeping expansion from traditional peacekeeping
to peacekeeping and now peacebuilding have contributed to the exponential growth of the
organization. On the other hand, the spread out of peacekeeping increases cost and have overly...

As peacekeeping missions are organized on adhoc basis, each peacekeeping mission budget is
authorized separately, and member states are assessed per mission. It is interesting to point out
that the peacekeeping budget allocation since its creation has always been far more than the
regular budget of the UN as a whole (McDermott, 2000). To demonstrate this, according to
McDermott (2000), the budgeted expenditures of the UN in 1994 reached $8.3 billion, of which
$1.3 billion went to regular budget; $3.3 billion to peacekeeping operations; and the remaining
$3.7 billion on operational activities and programs supported by voluntary contributions. As noted
in Article 17 of the charter, the expenses of the organization shall be borne by member states and
approved by the General Assembly (UN charter). However, the charter does not point out the scale
of contributions from member states. The system evolved over years with formulas that determine
contributions based on the capacity of countries to pay. As a result of the special role played by
the five permanent members of the Security Council, the system allocates to them a very high
percentage (McDermott, 2000). In December 2000, the General Assembly reaffirmed this with
resolution A/RES/55/235. (UNGA, 2015). The system therefore categorizes member states into
groups: A, B, C and D, for scaled of assessed contributions. Category A

The Influence Of Western Imperialism
Western scientists proposed new ideas regarding biological races that enhanced their beliefs that
westerners are naturally superior than other groups. Europeans were convinced that colonization
and enslavement of other societies were justified and as a result imperialism of the western world
began and influenced the basis of America. By taking over these new colonies, such as India and
Sri Lanka, science was able to develop and incorporate new information on the origins of humanity
with respect to the organization of the natural world. Within the beginnings of Western
imperialism, America was able to develop and thrive from the influences of previous European
activity, which granted the advancement of science and thus entirely changed the definition of
modern science. The British invasion of India came after the desire of the East India Company
wanting to grow trade and thus required knowledge of the indigenous living in India, so they
became highly interested in the Sanskrit texts (Sivasundaram 130). The importance of such texts
showed scientists that India s past...was glorified, and progress was tied not to the body or
physiognomy but to language (Sivasundaram 131). This new discovery allowed for the intelligence
of the culture of India to change and demonstrated the differences among environments Europeans
were not exposed to. The anti British Indian Mutiny of 1857 showcased Europeans taking over

The Importance Of The National Anthem
The decision, made by Colin Kaepernick and a handful of other NFL players, to kneel or sit down
during the playing of the American Nation Anthem is an immature and disrespectful gesture to this
country and to our flag. There are better more respectful ways to protest and put out word about
your cause. While it is our first amendment right to not stand up for the National Anthem, it is my
opinion that kneeling for the flag shows disrespect for this country, our armed forces, and the flag
itself.
The flag has a section of code in the U.S. law books called the flag code. This was adopted on
June 14, 1923, by the National Flag Conference which Navy and Army representatives attended.
Title 4 chapter 1 section 9 states, All other persons present should face the flag and stand at
attention with their right hand over the heart, or if applicable, remove their headdress with their
right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. While there are no legal
repercussions to violating these codes, it shows a great disrespect to the flag and to the country.
This section of code also states that citizens of other countries should stand in attention to show
respect for the nation.
A great example of a foreign athlete showing respect to the United States National Anthem would
be Usain Bolt. During a trackside interview that was being conducted with Mr. Bolt, the U.S.
National Anthem started to play at the 2012 London Summer Olympics, Usain politely interrupted

Differences Between New England And Middle Colonies
Differences between the New England and the Middle colonies
In the early 17th century, colonies were being established by outside settlers from European
countries. The Middle colonies consisted of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.
The New England colonies consisted of New Hampshire, Massachusetts Bay, Connecticut and
Rhode Island. Each colony had their differences when it came to religious beliefs and the
economy. The Middle colonies had a higher tolerance for religious beliefs. There were great
amounts of diversity when it came to religion. The various types of religion at the time were:
Presbyterian, Church of England, Dutch Reformed, Dutch Lutheran, Seven Day Baptist, German
Reformed and the Quakers, who were later known to lead the charge in freeing slaves. Many
Europeans frowned upon the idea of religious freedom. The freedom to express religious or non

The Pros And Cons Of The USA Patriot Act
Despite being the superpower of the world, the United States of America does not enjoy any
exception from the global threats and challenges. The people in denial of such global threats
finally woke up to the reality on the dawn of September 11th, 2001, when terrorists struck
American financial hub in the city of New York. A badly shaken nation shocked by the magnitude
of brutality quickly assembled behind its president to pass a legislation, known as the USA Patriot
Act, to tackle internal and external threats to this nation on a war footing basis. The haste with
which this legislation was passed made it controversial almost immediately. No doubt, the intent
was valid and there was an absolute need to tackle threats to the homeland, however,... Show more

Many times in the past decade and a half since the Act was passed, there have been numerous
reports of suppression of the rights protected by the First, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth amendments of
the Bill of Rights, directly threatening the freedom of association, information, speech, and the
right to legal representation as well as the right to liberty. This is simply unacceptable what is the
point of having a law of the land if we create and ratify legislation that destroys that supreme law?
For instance, in clear violation of the Fourth amendment, the library surveillance introduced by the
Patriot Act allowed monitoring of library s public computer terminals and use of secret search
warrants to seize any tangible thing in a library without probable cause and court procedure. It also
imposed a gag order on booksellers and librarians to prevent them from disclosing details of
surveillance.()CITE The extent of surveillance in libraries is just another reason Americans need to
realize that their privacy rights have been snatched from them under the disguise of the Patriot Act.
It is important to realize that the surveillance does not stop at the district or township libraries. It
has reached our residential doorsteps without us realizing it. In this era of digital communication,
most people rely on technology to stay connected with the rest of the world. The Patriot Act allows
federal agents to monitor electronic communications, which includes wireless phones, email, and
internet, without much oversight. It also allowed the government to seize business records of
telecom companies as well as customer records from the Internet Service Providers.

Was The Tiananmen Massacre Justified
From my perspective, the Tiananmen massacre of 1989 was not justified. The students and
protestors protested because they had a strong agreement of opposition about their current Chinese
government system that needed to be addressed. They wanted democracy for more individual rights
and freedom. Even though illegal organizations were violating laws such as forcibly occupying the
Tiananmen Square and vandalizing establishments, it does not justify the poor government attempt

How Different Features Of The Musculoskeletal System...
This essay will talk about how different features of the musculoskeletal system functioning in terms
of movement, support and load bearing, the factors which affect tensions in developed muscle and
different roles of muscle and their roles in movement. The first part to start with is to understand
what musculoskeletal system is and the function of it. The basic function of musculoskeletal
system is to support the human body, allow movement, support and protect organs, it also known as
the loco motor system. The system is formed by bones, cartilage, ligaments, muscles, tendons, joints
and other connective tissue that supports and binds tissues and organs together. The skeletal part of
the system works as storage system for calcium and phosphorus. It is essential for bones to regulate
mineral balance in the bloodstream, and then the variation of minerals is high, these minerals are
stored in bone; when it is low, minerals are withdrawn from the bone. The skeleton system has a
critical relationship with blood production (hematopoietic) system. The hematopoietic system
locates in long bones and there are two distinctions of bone marrow. The yellow marrow has fatty
connective tissue, the body uses the fat in yellow marrow for energy; the red marrow is important
for blood cell production. The bones also provide stability to the body; muscles keep bones in
place and also play a role in movement of the bones. When movement happens, different bones are
connected by joints and

But based on the research conducted this is only proven under certain conditions. The main
condition is that integration should be based on the individual needs of the student. This means that
child movement relies solely on social and academic readiness. Socal readiness is characterized by
impairments in social interactions, communication, and behavior. Some social issues include the
dislike for being touched, the inability to look others in the eye, being more interested in objects
than people, and not being able to make friends or play with others. When it comes to
communication these individuals have the inability to socialize properly, and difficulty with verbal
and nonverbal communication. Nonverbal communication is defined as the understanding of body
language, gestures, and facial expressions. Repetitive behavior, commonly identified in individuals
with OCD, can also be found in the autistic children. This causes these individuals to have impulses
to do certain things and to insist on keeping a rigid routine all day, in which they develop a

Analysis Of The Pathophysiological Framework Of Dilated...
Dilated Cardiomyopathy Cardiomyopathy is the deterioration of muscles within the heart which in
turn causes the heart to become thick, rigid or enlarged; this physiological change causes
decreased contractility and may lead to arrhythmias or heart failure (VanMeter and Hubert, 2013).
In the case study, the client is a seven year old girl from Chetwynd who is recently diagnosed with
dilated cardiomyopathy. When she was ten months old, she underwent a hearttransplant for her
hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Hypoplastic left heart syndrome is a complex and rare heart
defect that is congenital, or present at birth, in which the left side of the heart is severely
underdeveloped. The left ventricle is not functional and therefore the left side... Show more content

The rapid degeneration of myocardial fibers and diffuse inflammation lead to ventricular dilation
and hypertrophy which cause atrial enlargement and stasis of blood in the left ventricle (Park,
2008). The enlargement of the remaining heart chambers is mainly due to left ventricular failure,
but it may also be secondary to the primary cardiomyopathic process. Dilated cardiomyopathy is
associated with both systolic and diastolic dysfunctions, with decreased systolic function being the
predominant abnormality (Parker, 2008). This dysfunction leads to decreased contractility and
general contractile dysfunction (Parker, 2008). Progressive dilation can lead to significant mitral
and tricuspid regurgitation, which may further decrease the cardiac output and increase end
systolic volumes and ventricular wall stress. In turn, this leads to further dilation and myocardial
dysfunction (Friedberg, 2008). Dilated cardiomyopathy is the most common type of heart muscle
disease in pediatrics (Chow, Ateah, Scott, Ricci, Kyle, 2013). Dilated cardiomyopathy can be a
life threatening condition and can decrease life expectancy if severe damage occurs. Currently,
the five year survival rate for children diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy is between forty and
eighty percent. The survival rate decreases if they child is diagnosed at five years or older
(Friedberg, 2008).

Spanish American Colonization
British American and Spanish America were born as a result of European exploration. Starting
with Spain in the 15th and 16th century, European superpowers began sending people to America
to claim lands and grow their mother country s wealth and power. Spanish people came over for
wealth and economic gain, while the British came for wealth, and to escape from persecution.
When settled, Spanish America functioned as a decentralized monarchy, with representatives of
the Spanish King in each colony. In British America, each group of colonies was governed by
one of three systems: Royal, Charter, and Proprietary. Both colonies engaged in slavery and the
exploitation of natives and Africans to work on plantations and mines to produce goods to send
back to the mother country. England did include their colonies in the Transatlantic trade system,
however, Spain restricted trade from their colonies to minimize the power the colonies had. Both
of these strategies helped maintain power in the mother countries because England was gaining
wealth from its colonies resources, and Spain kept a strong hold on its colonies by keeping them
economically weak. The original cause of English immigration to the New World the search for
profit from from the lands of America. However, people later left to escape persecution as they
headed to the new land of opportunity. English immigration to America in the 1600s started with
the arrival of the colonists at Jamestown. The immigrants were Baptist and

Which Paper Towel Works Best
Which Paper Towel Works Best
When you come to the paper towel aisle in the grocery store do you ever get frustrated and
annoyed by all the brands to choose from? Every brand is telling you that they are the strongest
and that their brand will absorb the fastest. Have you ever actually taken the time to figure out
which brand is indomitable and absorbs the quickest? Well today I will fill you in on this
mysterious secret and tell you not only which brand is not lying to you but also which brand you
are getting your money s worth and if paying that extra dollar is worth the name brand I think that
the most expensive paper towel will be the strongest based on an ice cube suspended over a paper
towel over a bowl held by a rubber band. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After that I waited until the entire ice cube melted. This took about two hours or so. Now that the
ice had all melted and absorbed into the paper towel I could see that the ice cube had either broke
through the paper towel, absorbed fully into the paper towel or leaked though in some spots. When
I was finished looking over what had happened, I wrote down the results and everything all of my
observations.
The first brand that I decided to start with was Scott. Scott brand claims to have fast absorbing
ridges. I bought a package of ninety six one ply sheets for a $1.69. I figured out that each sheet
costs around 0.018 cents. The paper towel sheets individually are 27.9 by 27.9 centimeters. The
Scott brand held up pretty well with the ice cube. The ice cube did not break through or rip the
paper towel. The paper towel was fully wet and absorbed the entire red ice cube. None of the red
water leaked through. I feel that the Scott brand has passed the test.
The second brand that I tested was Giant Eagles Clean n Tuff . This brand claims to be strong and
absorbent. I paid eighty nine cents for a ninety six 2 ply sheet roll. The sheets had the dimensions
of 27.9 by 27.9 centimeters. Each sheet costs around 0.0092 cents. After the ice cube finished
melting I observed what happened and found that the paper towel absorbed the water with no
tearing or dripping through at all.

There will be a multitude of trials and tribulations that a man will have to endure in order to
achieve a higher plateau in their life. I had many great experiences in my life, but I have also had
many disappointing ones. One of those disappointing moments in my life occurred when I was an
18 year old senior at City Arts in Technology high school.
Growing up as an adolescence, I had very strict parents who raised my siblings and I with a stiff

A Research Done By Morelli, Rameson, And Lieberman About...
Various articles and literature works coupled with the ongoing happenings clearly indicate that
happiness has no price tag. Since the beginning of human evolution, there has been a saying that
money cannot buy anyone happiness. Happiness refers to emotions, and it is dependent on people
s choices (Landau, 2008). Finding oneself in a place where material properties and social status are
crucial, many people s happinessin such cases would be dependent on these things. For the purpose
of understanding this issue, this paper critically analyses a researchdone by Morelli, Rameson, and
Lieberman about happiness.
Question 1: The Research methods
First, there is the observational method. The researchers used the observational method to
identifying how certain characters tend to be influenced by environmental changes. For instance,
the researchers review the study conducted by Morelli and Lieberman, where the volunteers were
instructed to look at pictures at their free time and memorize the eight digits assigned to them by
the researchers. Some individuals showed reduced empathy, while others were able to feel things
deeply (Kluger, 2013). This kind of research methodology is mainly concerned with psychological
or behavioral traits of the study population.
Generally, observations are cheap, and the researcher uses few resources in conducting the
research. Conversely, observations consume a lot of time since researchers have to wait for the
observational traits of the

Disruptive and transformational technologies typically appeal to segments of the market that are
undeserved, and not to the main stream of the market (Shane, 2009). These technologies have the
ability to make traditional tools and processes obsolete virtually overnight. In this paper I use
Netflix as an example of a disruptive technology and Toshiba NEC s HD DVD as transformational
technology. I begin with a discussion of disruptive technology. Afterwards, I will speak on the
success of Netflix; explain the disruptive and shifting technology created once it sustained itself in

In August of 2002, Toshiba NEC proposed the next generation optical disc format HD DVD
(Williams, 2008). HD DVD (High Definition/Density DVD) transformed the way we view digital
media in the early 2000 s. It was predicted that the HD DVD would be the successor to the standard
DVD format.
As the creator of the successor to the standard DVD format, Toshiba created a paradigm shift
phasing out the standard DVD which played at 704 pixels by 480 pixels and introduced HD
DVD which plays at 1920 pixel by 1080 pixels ( The difference between, ). The HD optical disk
held up to 15GB on a single side and produced a crisp picture for in home entertainment. The HD
DVD Promotion Group was a group of manufacturers and media studios formed to exchange
thoughts and ideas to help promote the format worldwide (Rapid Response Team, 2006).
With marketing and management Toshiba convinced companies such as Paramount Pictures,
Universal Pictures, Warner Bros. Pictures, HBO and New Line Cinema to announce support for the
HD DVD format. This shift in technology, with the help of HDTV, moved in home entertainment to
new heights. Toshiba NEC were able to capitalize on the market meeting the needs of the PC
industry driven optical drive business and the next generation DVD media ( Toshiba and nec,
2002). As Toshiba NEC and its supporters pushed

Galatia took its name from these Galatian inhabitants (Williams, 19). Paul had passed through
Galatia during his ministry and he had preached and established churches there. The letter to the
Galatians was written around C.E. 51 and later tradition will assert without certainty that Paul
had written to the Galatians from Ephesus. Paul s letter to the Galatians is sometimes compared
with his letter to the Romans in the respect that the Galatian letter was written to a church that
Paul founded and visited where his letter to the Romans was written to a church he had never
visited. The Galatian letter was also very hostile where the Roman letter was friendly and joyous
(Kee, 5th Ed., 240). Paul had a great attachment to the Galatians. He makes reference to the first
time he preached the gospel in Galatia and how he had fell ill and the Galatians cared for him.
This marked the beginning of a tender, honest and privileged relationship with them and even in
the face of their doubt in his gospel, Paul was still able to refer to them as quot;my dear children
quot; (Jervis, 1). Paul wrote the letter to the Galatians because, after his departure from the
Galatian churches, Jewish Christian fanatics came into Galatia and corrupted Paul s Gospel of
man s free justification by faith in Christ Jesus (Luther, 9). His main purpose in writing to the
Galatians was to re preach quot;the truth of the gospel quot; (Gal. 2:5, 14). This would prove a

Claude Mckay Essay
Caribbean Literature 1900 1929 In the Caribbean, specifically Jamaica, during the year of 1900
1929 there were two poets whose work truly stood out and made a statement. Those poets were
Thomas Redcam (1870 1933) and Claude McKay (1878 1972). Thomas Redcam was a Jamaican
poet who came from Irish ancestry. Throughout his life he promoted Jamaican literature and was a
notable poet. He was seen as helpful and encouragement to younger poets during that time period
including Claude McKay. Both poets had such a lovefor their country and made it clear in their
poems. They spoke about the beauty of Jamaica, how through thick and thin Jamaica would always
be their heart and homeland. The themes of nature, faith, and love are very present... Show more

Though you cas me from your breas An trample me to deaf; My heart will trus you none de less,
My land I won t forget (McKay, 64). McKay makes it clear that he will never lose his faith in
Jamaica as well. In this poem Jamaica McKay believes that his country Jamaica is one that can do
no wrong.
Once again the ideas of nature, faith and love continue in his next poem Flame Heart but this
time the idea of nature becomes the more predominant one. In this work Mckay speaks how he
returns back to Jamaica. Throughout the poem he mentions aspects of nature in the land that he
can not recall but then mentions the one part of the land he remembers so vividly. McKay
speaks of poinsettia plants he remembers so well. He speaks of their beauty and color, I have
forgotten much, but I still remember The poinsettia s red, blood red in warm December (McKay,
70). He speaks so vividly of this one aspect of nature and not only does he mention the beauty of it,
he dives even deeper when mention of climate comes in. This statement about the poinsettia is
mentioned a few times in the poem giving off a strong vibe and conviction. Everything to the
speaker is a blur but through his blurs he is able to remember that red blood poinsettia plant in
warm December month.
In his last poem I Shall Return McKay touches upon all three themes in such strong points. This
poem speaks of someone who has left Jamaica but has intentions of returning. It speaks of how their

The American Dream In Michael Jackson s The Man In The Mirror
Michael Jackson is known as the King of Pop and during his time he created multiple songs that
hold deep meanings and positively promoted what individuals morality should be composed of.
One of Jackson s world renowned pieces was a song called The Man In The Mirror , which
represents change and making a difference. When you hear about an artist having a new music
video out one would assume that they would be in the video, but in Jackson s video this is not the
case. In The Man In The Mirror Jackson has all types of individuals besides himself shown, which
is an unusual approach seeing that music videos are usually the artist time to take expressing
themselves a step further. Although you do not see Jackson within the video, the video itself... Show

It is still the dream for most today to be able to live The American Dream , but at the time this
video was produced it shows that many people were not able to live that dream because of the
many things they faced. Many individuals encountered obstacles such as poverty or even
segregation and that is displayed in this video by each clip correlating with the line of the song
and the message it is trying to put forth. In the video Jacksons says Who am I to be blind?
Pretending not to see their needs. and while this is said clips of protest, motivational speakers
and countries in need of help are displayed. By saying this line and showing these clips at the
same time Jackson is trying to imply that everyone acts as if they do not see what needs to be fix
in the world. By everyone pretending as if ignoring the wrong is the right thing to do they are
blinded that this is not the correct approach nor is it the right thing to do. Within the different
clips Jackson has in his video he shows that certain people and groups may believe that they are
the only individuals entitled to possessing The American Dream when that is not true. The
American Dream is not just for certain people it is for everyone and most of his lines can be
connected to that. Jackson shows people who need help and people who are helping, but
contradicts this with people who want change and equality and show the people who want to keep
everything unequal. With Jackson doing this he shows the people who have looked in the mirror
versus the ones who didn t. Currently people are still encountering all of these things from unequal
treatment to being in need of help and more people have put forth efforts and helping them conquer
life and work towards them living their dream. Thus, The American Dream correlates with The

Ethiopian Cultural Identity
1.What is your chosen group background? What has it meant to belong to this group? As you
know, I am Ethiopian. I was born and raised in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia. I belong to the Ethiopian
community not only in Ethiopia, but also here in America. Finding Ethiopian friends who share
the same interest as me, understand their culture, practice their languages, and have interest in
returning back to Ethiopia someday, has always been a struggle for me. Most of the Ethiopians
who I meet are Americanized. When I was studying at NIU, I was blessed to have a small circle
of Ethiopians who grew up there. Spending time with me made me feel secure, like I actually
belonged. Lucky for me, I am also a part of the African community. There are 53 countries in
Africa; however, there is an unbreakable bond that is seen amongst Africans around the world.
We share the same identity and have the upmost love and respect for our continent and the
people still living there. 2.Where did you grow up and what other groups resided there? How
did this early personal history influence your beliefs of others I lived in Ethiopia for quite some
time before given a chance to move to America. When I arrived in America, the only people that
were around me were Caucasians. They did not look like me or act like me. I found this very
difficult when I first came to America. I was jealous of my classmates because they spoke clear

  • 2. The World Trade Center Memorial World Trade Center Memorial The World Trade Center Memorial commemorates the September 11, 2001,attacks and the bombing that occurred at the World Trade Center in 1993. The memorial can be found at the former location of the Twin Towers in New York. These fountains that rest in the footprints of the towers are a powerful reminders of our nations history and all the lives that were lost that day. This memorial is ultimately successful because it evokes emotion, whether that be sadness or possibly a feeling of serenity or stillness. The memorial was commissioned by Lower Manhattan Development Corporation and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. An international design competition was held in 2003 for selecting the design for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I don t care if Peter is described as this or that, he says. It s my design. The announcement of Michael Arad s design winning the competition was the start of controversy for this memorial. Daniel Libeskind was furious that he won because Arad s design completely destroyed the vision he had for the space. I will fight this! he yelled during his first meeting about it with the LMDC. I am the people s architect! Daniel want the slurry wall to be present in the memorial and have the whole site set below the main street. Arad felt that this would disconnect the memorial from the life of the city. His opinion won and the slurry wall can still be viewed below the memorial in the museum. That was only the beginning of conflict between architects in this process of construction. Many victims groups hated Arad s design as well. They hated the fact that fountains when underground instead of rising into the sky. The feeling of absence made them uncomfortable. The idea of absence is common in counter memorials. How can someone depict the incomprehensible events with a comprehensive memorial? A primary solution to the problem has been the formalized absence given by deconstructivism. I think the use of absences is what gives this memorial strength. 9/11 was a major day in our nation s history, therefore it should have an immense memorial. • 3. Wireless Technologies Wireless Technologies Introduction As wireless technology has begun to mature, the demand for wireless products has increased as new applications for the technology are realized. One application for wireless technology at the U.S. Naval Academy is to use the wireless capability to enhance classroom instruction. Currently the Electrical Engineering and Physics Departments have wireless access points and wireless laptops/desktops available for classroom instruction. The purpose of this report is to provide the technical research necessary to aid decision makers in determining which wireless technologies the Naval Academy should invest. Background In a wireless network, computers communicate with the network through a radio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each access point can practically service between 32 to 64 users, depending upon manufacturer. The bandwidth will be shared by all users. The number of radio channels associated with each technology will vary by technology and product manufacturer. Multiple channels allows for multiple access points to be collocated in order to provide access for a larger number of users. Current USNA Uses The Electrical Engineering Department currently uses the Dell suite with a wireless access point and 24 wireless laptops. They use the wireless network for in class projects where the use of either simulation (OPNET) or design software (PSPICE) is being taught and used. The Physics department is using a LinkSys 802.11b wireless access point and LinkSys wireless NIC cards with desktop computers. Their primary use is for internet access. Recommendation The best technology system for the Naval Academy would be the 802.11a standard. It has 54 Mbps throughput capability as well as adequate range, sufficient for classroom use. Since the 54 Mbps is shared amongst all users, it would allow, at a minimum, 2 Mbps for each user in a class of 20 midshipmen operating simultaneously. It also has higher data rates at comparable distances ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, in order to demise child labor and include cultural sensitivity for immigrants; school social work began to take its form (Jarolmen, 2014). The school social worker has been charged with lifelong learning to increase professional development, awareness of local, state and federal laws; as well as the position to link services to students, families and co educators. Standard 4 (a) of the NC Professional School Social Work Standards 2004, informs you that as a professional school social worker you must be knowledgeable of strength based interventions. The school social worker must also include the support of other stake holders within the educational process of the student. For instance, principals, administrators, counselors and other support personnel may be solicited by the school social worker to implement Positive Behavior Support (PBS) which is an intervention used to deter negative behavior of a student demonstrating signs of behavior disorder even before it becomes a problem (Merchant, Anderson, Caldarelli, Young, Young, 2009 as cited in Jarolmen, 2014).In addition, NC Standard 4 (a) elaborates that school social workers must exercise assessments to correctly establish the need of the student as well as identify service gaps within the school setting. Authors Scott, Nelson, Zabala, (2003), explains the process of using assessments such as the Functional Behavior Assessment . Generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) are a set of uniform accounting guidelines health care organizations follow to determine the financial position of an organization. According to Finkler, Kovner, and Jones (2007) the most common and important GAAP are as follows: (a) Entity concept, (b) Going concern concept, (c) Matching principle and cash versus ... However, the materiality principle assists the professional judgment of a manager with these challenges on deciphering whether or not to deem an item as material. Usually if an item has an impact on the income, or affects the decision making of the professional using the financial statement, the item is material. Another GAAP is the full disclosure principle. This principle states that it is imperative to include all information in a financial statement of an entity that would affect the reader s understanding of the statements. This principle also includes the reporting of any current accounting policies as well as any changes of them. The last GAAP is the consistency principle. The consistency principle suggests that once an organization agrees upon the utilization of an accounting principle or method, they should consistently use the same method for future fiscal years. This will provide a more accurate comparison for the individuals dealing with the massive amounts of numbers and transactions each fiscal year. In conclusion, a health care organization s primary focus may be to provide quality care services; however the financial wellbeing and viability is critical to meet that focus. A substantial portion of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S. GAAP) applies specifically to reporting entities that are involved in the business of healthcare. Dystopian science fiction films of the past have frequently presented a critical dystopia, by projecting future cities that perpetuates corporate capitalism s prominent features. The binary opposition between man and technology is represented by three characters in the plot: Deckard, apparently a human. These replicants represent capitalism s oppressive characteristics and also to a certain extent the rebellion against exploitation. Deckard s realization of how the Tyrell Corporation exploits him, and the rebellion of the replicants against their oppressors, is the ultimate critique of capitalism. Since both sides killer and killed reject their status as servants of the corporation and refuse further exploitation. (Kellner, et all) The corporation in the Blade Runner that is used to illustrate capitalism s destructive characteristics is The Tyrell Coporation. The Tyrell Corporation invents replicants to have a controllable labor force that will perform difficult and dangerous tasks. Similarly applicable to today, where capitalism turns individuals into machines that have only the function of productivity. Ironically, the replicants form a human rebellion; while the actual human characters in the film seem to submit to corporate domination and live a life like the corporations sees them to. It seems as if the humans have become so dehumanized that the replicants form a rebellion against their oppressor instead of human beings. Pyramidal Cells (PC) Pyramidal cells(PC) are the source of excitatory input to the cortex, similarly the granule cell in the cerebellum, core and matrix thalamocortical cells in the thalamus, and by STN in the basal ganglia. GABA is responsible for keeping a tab on excitatory activity in the brain and prevent the occurrence of a seizure (9). The process of surround inhibition occurs at every station(i.e. in the spinal cord, brainstem, thalamus, somatosensory cortex) for discriminative active touch and is regulated by GABA interneuron. These interneurons allow only the strongest input to go through resulting in precision and make it possible for two distinct points stimulated on the skin to be interpreted by adjusting the effective receptive field size(23).This... Inhibition mediated by basket cells is enhanced when excitability increases during preparation prior to movement(motor set)(7). Double bouquet cells(DBC) are responsible for restricting the activity of minicolumn and preventing a spread of activity(7). They also inhibit basal and apical dendrites of the CM cell (7,11). I wanted to research the thoughts and feelings someone who has cancer might go through. From the research, I found depression to play a big role in the outcome of the patient s therapies and quality of life with cancer. In fact, a study shows there is a direct correlation between the two, which is quite fascinating; it amazes me how the brain, the body, and the unconscious mind work together. This topic hits home when it comes to cancer. Sadly, we have all lost someone to the deadly disease or know someone who is battling it right now. I ve always wondered what my loved one might be feeling. Do they believe they can fight cancerous cells or will they succumb to the illness and fall into depression? I find it upsetting to see the second choice happen, but what if there was something we could do? These questions lead me to research the correlation between two hardships: cancer and depression. In the event of being diagnosed with cancer, one may experience many emotions, from anger to hatred, or sadness to even the feeling of guilt. Along with emotional strain, a patient will experience treatments and therapies to help fight the cancerous cells. The type of treatment cancer patients receive has multiple side effects, including depression as a dominant effect. • 15. Dna Database Ethics How would you feel about a DNA database having record of every man, woman and child in the United States? Many questions are raised on whether it is ethical to have, safe and beneficial. A national DNA database could help solve crimes, but it also allows for thousands of innocent people to be at risk. Many argue against having a DNA database and many are for a database. I am going to argue against having a national DNA databasebecause it has potential of being hacked, it is a violation of individual rights and DNA is not 100% accurate. A national DNA database would be under control by the government, but is the government able to create such a secure system to protect valuable information? Though there are many arguments against having a DNA database there are also reasons to have a DNA database. DNA is one of the leading factors in putting criminals behind bars. When DNA is evident in a criminal case, it makes that case a lot stronger. With a database of all citizens DNA it can help law enforcement catch criminals to make communities safer. DNA will not only be able to help solve crimes ongoing now and for the future but to help solve past crimes. DNA also allows for scientist to use the valuable information for research to get a better understanding of health and safety for individuals and to help link people who have the same medical condition. With an entire database of all people, it allows for the system to not be discriminatory. Minorities make up the vast majority of the criminal justice system. With every race, gender and ethnicity in the system it opens up the ability for all people to be at risk for being in the system with DNA placing them for a crime and making it harder to get away with one. There is also a possibility that having a DNA database will lower crime rates. People who feel they can get away with crimes now, will have a higher chance of getting caught. Those who fear getting caught because the government and police agencies have their DNA will be less likely to commit crimes. There are many comments but still nothing definitive about who is better. I will do my best to compare and contrast them to explain why I prefer Ronaldo than Messi in two areas: their styles and technical abilities. To an extent, their styles are determined by their own careers. For Messi, he came to Barcelona from Newell s Old Boys at the age of 13, with the club helping him for a growth hormone deficiency that threatened to limit his growth and paying for a treatment ( Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo ). • 17. The Prevalence of Younger Students Lying to Health... Communication is a functional, purposeful, and strategic aspect of human socialization. Individuals have the ability make conscious decisions to control their expressive language to manipulate the perceived interpretations of others (Burgoon, Callister, Hunsaker, 445). As people acquire language, they develop sensitivity to the Gricean maxims of conversation. The first of these maxims is Quantity I , or the failure to provide enough information. The second of these maxims is Quantity II , or the provision of too much or redundant information. The third of these maxims is Quality , or veracity (Siegal, Iozzi, and Surian, 2009). These three Gricean maxims of conversation alone encompass the prevalence of various forms of lying in the context of human communication. The significance of lying is that it can change various outcomes that negatively impact various circumstances. In the realm of health care, patients may lieto health professionals for a number of reasons including to acquire unnecessary or excessive medications, to avoid embarrassment or judgment, and to reduce expensive medical charges that may accumulate over time. No matter how well intentioned the doctor faced with a patient in need of help may be, it is he who has the advantage resulting from the knowledge he has (the truth) and his skills: a disproportion occurs between these two parties (Tanasiewicz, 2005, 16). (George Harrison) Although things can come from the past, they must be put to use in the know, and although we like to plan for the future, we need to try and make an impact now. • 19. The Snow Man By Wallace Stevens In The Snow Man by modernist poet Wallace Stevens, the idea is brought up that one must have a certain mind to see things a certain way; in his poem, Stevens explores the idea of perception, challenging the realities commonly seen, with one common scene often interpreted. The poem describes a scene in the midst of winter s gloom, then shifts into the perceptionof this scene, saying how in reality there is no gloom. Stevens mentions how one must have a mindof winter (line 1) to refuse internal psychological interpretations on the outside world. But at the same time, he is leaning to the other side, saying how difficult something like that is. In an earlier line, Stevens says to regard (line 2), but he laters shifts to behold. (line 5) The word behold implies awe, and the words that follow it, the junipers shagged with ice/ the spruces rough in the distant glitter/ of the January sun; (lines 5 7) seem to evoke a sense of melancholy. He follows that set up with a sort of obvious fact tone in his next line by saying and not to think of any misery in the sound of the wind. (lines 7 8) Stevens is stating that one must have a mind of winter, or a mind that is like winter, in order to look at all the desolation, and not think of precisely that. But he uses language that sets up a very lonely mood, which is the reality of what he is trying to say. As something is seen and perceived, minds interpret it accordingly to what they feel; vise versa, something commonly associated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Learning s Reflection On The Experience Of Learning Back when I was a child, learning to me was memorising multiplication tables and grammar rules. That perception altered during my university years, when learning meant observing, researching, gaining experience through trial and error. I believe that it is the grand experience during my university days, which showed me that the time honoured custom of reading and remembering never did help me. I came to realise that learningis a mind altering process where, action during a mind engaging activity, begs you to learn, unlearn and re learn. I have also learnt through experience that learning cannot happen in a one size fits all approach. Each child has a combination of different intelligence and learning style (Howard Gardner). Some children would portray a balanced perspicacity, while others show certain dominating traits of intelligence. It is not up to the child to identify these traits and harness it. In fact the onus is on the teacher to identify and draw out the true potential of the learner, in a way the learner feels motivated and challenged. Traditional syllabi and formulaic methods of teaching aren t engaging and contradict many theories I ve learnt from this course. I believe that learning happens when the process is learner centred, wherein learners construct on previous knowledge (Bruner) with plenty of audio visual stimuli and the right amount of intervention from the facilitator (William Black), thus maximising the learning potential. Learning happens at one s own pace (Maria Montessori), that which is based on experience (John Dewey, Kolb s Experiential learning theory) and the learner should be encouraged to be curious enough to pursue bigger questions. I found some of the following teaching strategies to be of great value enhancing the learning process. Group work: Group work aids in students working together maximising their own and each other s learning (Johnson, Johnson Smith 1991). Group work allows productive in class discussions that can be successful in large classrooms. This has to follow with an exit card or a 3 2 1. This was also evident in my observation of EP, where the learners learnt from their peers and were confident to share with other peers thus making it a successful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As peacekeeping missions are organized on adhoc basis, each peacekeeping mission budget is authorized separately, and member states are assessed per mission. It is interesting to point out that the peacekeeping budget allocation since its creation has always been far more than the regular budget of the UN as a whole (McDermott, 2000). To demonstrate this, according to McDermott (2000), the budgeted expenditures of the UN in 1994 reached $8.3 billion, of which $1.3 billion went to regular budget; $3.3 billion to peacekeeping operations; and the remaining $3.7 billion on operational activities and programs supported by voluntary contributions. As noted in Article 17 of the charter, the expenses of the organization shall be borne by member states and approved by the General Assembly (UN charter). However, the charter does not point out the scale of contributions from member states. The system evolved over years with formulas that determine contributions based on the capacity of countries to pay. As a result of the special role played by the five permanent members of the Security Council, the system allocates to them a very high percentage (McDermott, 2000). In December 2000, the General Assembly reaffirmed this with resolution A/RES/55/235. (UNGA, 2015). The Importance Of The National Anthem The decision, made by Colin Kaepernick and a handful of other NFL players, to kneel or sit down during the playing of the American Nation Anthem is an immature and disrespectful gesture to this country and to our flag. There are better more respectful ways to protest and put out word about your cause. While it is our first amendment right to not stand up for the National Anthem, it is my opinion that kneeling for the flag shows disrespect for this country, our armed forces, and the flag itself. The flag has a section of code in the U.S. law books called the flag code. This was adopted on June 14, 1923, by the National Flag Conference which Navy and Army representatives attended. Title 4 chapter 1 section 9 states, All other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, or if applicable, remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. While there are no legal repercussions to violating these codes, it shows a great disrespect to the flag and to the country. This section of code also states that citizens of other countries should stand in attention to show respect for the nation. A great example of a foreign athlete showing respect to the United States National Anthem would be Usain Bolt. • 36. The Pros And Cons Of The USA Patriot Act Despite being the superpower of the world, the United States of America does not enjoy any exception from the global threats and challenges. The people in denial of such global threats finally woke up to the reality on the dawn of September 11th, 2001, when terrorists struck American financial hub in the city of New York. A badly shaken nation shocked by the magnitude of brutality quickly assembled behind its president to pass a legislation, known as the USA Patriot Act, to tackle internal and external threats to this nation on a war footing basis. The haste with which this legislation was passed made it controversial almost immediately. No doubt, the intent was valid and there was an absolute need to tackle threats to the homeland, however,... This is simply unacceptable what is the point of having a law of the land if we create and ratify legislation that destroys that supreme law? For instance, in clear violation of the Fourth amendment, the library surveillance introduced by the Patriot Act allowed monitoring of library s public computer terminals and use of secret search warrants to seize any tangible thing in a library without probable cause and court procedure. It also imposed a gag order on booksellers and librarians to prevent them from disclosing details of surveillance.()CITE The extent of surveillance in libraries is just another reason Americans need to realize that their privacy rights have been snatched from them under the disguise of the Patriot Act. It is important to realize that the surveillance does not stop at the district or township libraries. It has reached our residential doorsteps without us realizing it. In this era of digital communication, most people rely on technology to stay connected with the rest of the world. The students and protestors protested because they had a strong agreement of opposition about their current Chinese government system that needed to be addressed. Even though illegal organizations were violating laws such as forcibly occupying the Tiananmen Square and vandalizing establishments, it does not justify the poor government attempt to control the riots with fully armed military soldiers. This essay will talk about how different features of the musculoskeletal system functioning in terms of movement, support and load bearing, the factors which affect tensions in developed muscle and different roles of muscle and their roles in movement. The first part to start with is to understand what musculoskeletal system is and the function of it. The basic function of musculoskeletal system is to support the human body, allow movement, support and protect organs, it also known as the loco motor system. The system is formed by bones, cartilage, ligaments, muscles, tendons, joints and other connective tissue that supports and binds tissues and organs together. The skeletal part of the system works as storage system for calcium and phosphorus. It is essential for bones to regulate mineral balance in the bloodstream, and then the variation of minerals is high, these minerals are stored in bone; when it is low, minerals are withdrawn from the bone. The skeleton system has a critical relationship with blood production (hematopoietic) system. The hematopoietic system locates in long bones and there are two distinctions of bone marrow. The yellow marrow has fatty connective tissue, the body uses the fat in yellow marrow for energy; the red marrow is important for blood cell production. The bones also provide stability to the body; muscles keep bones in place and also play a role in movement of the bones. When movement happens, different bones are connected by joints and ... Dilated Cardiomyopathy Cardiomyopathy is the deterioration of muscles within the heart which in turn causes the heart to become thick, rigid or enlarged; this physiological change causes decreased contractility and may lead to arrhythmias or heart failure (VanMeter and Hubert, 2013). In the case study, the client is a seven year old girl from Chetwynd who is recently diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy. When she was ten months old, she underwent a hearttransplant for her hypoplastic left heart syndrome. The rapid degeneration of myocardial fibers and diffuse inflammation lead to ventricular dilation and hypertrophy which cause atrial enlargement and stasis of blood in the left ventricle (Park, 2008). The enlargement of the remaining heart chambers is mainly due to left ventricular failure, but it may also be secondary to the primary cardiomyopathic process. Dilated cardiomyopathy is associated with both systolic and diastolic dysfunctions, with decreased systolic function being the predominant abnormality (Parker, 2008). This dysfunction leads to decreased contractility and general contractile dysfunction (Parker, 2008). Progressive dilation can lead to significant mitral and tricuspid regurgitation, which may further decrease the cardiac output and increase end systolic volumes and ventricular wall stress. In turn, this leads to further dilation and myocardial dysfunction (Friedberg, 2008). Dilated cardiomyopathy is the most common type of heart muscle disease in pediatrics (Chow, Ateah, Scott, Ricci, Kyle, 2013). Dilated cardiomyopathy can be a life threatening condition and can decrease life expectancy if severe damage occurs. Currently, the five year survival rate for children diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy is between forty and eighty percent. • 41. Spanish American Colonization British American and Spanish America were born as a result of European exploration. Starting with Spain in the 15th and 16th century, European superpowers began sending people to America to claim lands and grow their mother country s wealth and power. Spanish people came over for wealth and economic gain, while the British came for wealth, and to escape from persecution. When settled, Spanish America functioned as a decentralized monarchy, with representatives of the Spanish King in each colony. In British America, each group of colonies was governed by one of three systems: Royal, Charter, and Proprietary. Both colonies engaged in slavery and the exploitation of natives and Africans to work on plantations and mines to produce goods to send back to the mother country. England did include their colonies in the Transatlantic trade system, however, Spain restricted trade from their colonies to minimize the power the colonies had. Both of these strategies helped maintain power in the mother countries because England was gaining wealth from its colonies resources, and Spain kept a strong hold on its colonies by keeping them economically weak. Since the beginning of human evolution, there has been a saying that money cannot buy anyone happiness. Happiness refers to emotions, and it is dependent on people s choices (Landau, 2008). Paul had passed through Galatia during his ministry and he had preached and established churches there. The letter to the Galatians was written around C.E. 51 and later tradition will assert without certainty that Paul had written to the Galatians from Ephesus. Paul s letter to the Galatians is sometimes compared with his letter to the Romans in the respect that the Galatian letter was written to a church that Paul founded and visited where his letter to the Romans was written to a church he had never visited. The Galatian letter was also very hostile where the Roman letter was friendly and joyous (Kee, 5th Ed., 240). Paul had a great attachment to the Galatians. He makes reference to the first time he preached the gospel in Galatia and how he had fell ill and the Galatians cared for him. This marked the beginning of a tender, honest and privileged relationship with them and even in the face of their doubt in his gospel, Paul was still able to refer to them as quot;my dear children quot; (Jervis, 1). Paul wrote the letter to the Galatians because, after his departure from the Galatian churches, Jewish Christian fanatics came into Galatia and corrupted Paul s Gospel of man s free justification by faith in Christ Jesus (Luther, 9).
