Gmo Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) can be a challenging
task due to the complexity and controversy surrounding the subject. The difficulty lies in the
need to balance scientific information, ethical considerations, and public perceptions. Addressing
the scientific aspects requires a comprehensive understanding of genetics, biotechnology, and the
specific modifications made to organisms. Furthermore, presenting this information in a clear
and accessible manner for a diverse audience can be a daunting challenge.
The controversy surrounding GMOs adds another layer of complexity to the essay. There are
strong opinions on both sides of the debate, with proponents highlighting potential benefits such
as increased crop yields and resistance to pests, while opponents express concerns about
potential environmental risks and long-term health effects. Navigating through these conflicting
viewpoints requires careful research, critical analysis, and the ability to present a well-rounded
argument.
Moreover, an effective GMO essay should also delve into the ethical considerations associated
with genetic modification. This involves discussing issues such as the impact on biodiversity, the
potential for unintended consequences, and the socio-economic implications for farmers and
communities. Balancing these ethical concerns with the scientific and economic aspects requires
a nuanced approach to create a well-rounded and persuasive argument.
In conclusion, writing a compelling essay on the topic of GMOs involves navigating through
complex scientific information, addressing ethical considerations, and acknowledging the diverse
perspectives surrounding the subject. It requires a blend of research, critical thinking, and
effective communication skills to present a comprehensive and balanced view on the topic.

Analysis Of The Film The Social Network
Essay 4: The Social Network Critique
The film that we watched in class is called The Social Network. Directed by David
Fincher and released in 2010, it is an informative film which attempts to shed light
on the real story behind the creation and rise of Facebook, starting from the
beginning and revealing all the possibly hidden or not as well known facts behind it.
Though some of the movie may be Hollywoodized and exaggerated for a dramatic
depiction, with exceptional acting and a compelling story, it does a fantastic job of
informing viewers all about Facebook while still engrossing them in the story and
captivating their interest.
The movie opens up on a scene when Mark Zuckerberg, played by Jesse Eisenberg, is
dumped by his girlfriend Erica Albright after an argument. From this moment, a
long chain of events is set into motion that ultimately lead to the success of one of
the most prominent and influential social media sites in internet and
communication history. After Mark is dumped, he is humiliated and set on
obtaining revenge. From his anger, he, along with his only real friend Eduardo
Saverin, who is played by Andrew Garfield, work to create a website that will
serve as payback for his girlfriend breaking up with him. Created on October 28,
2003, the site that they create is called Facemash, which is the very first version of
Facebook. Originally made to be a site for comparing photos, the site used pictures
stolen from the school database that were plugged into
Indian Ball Game Research Paper
Indian Ball Game
Lacrosse is an exciting and fast paced sport with almost nonstop action from start
to finish. The strategy is simple. Players move a ball down a field using sticks with
nets on them. A goal is scored by hurling the ball past the other team s goaltender
into an upright net. Lacrosse is played at all levels of athletics. There are
professional, amateur, and school teams, and there are scholarships for those who
play it in college.
Lacrosse was invented by American Indians in the 1400 s. Imagine if you went back
in time six hundred years to a game between Indian villages. The atmosphere was
like a festival. There was a dance before the game to celebrate the event. The players
painted their bodies with symbols and participated
The Preparation Plan for Redesigning Gadgets INC.
Network
Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to start redesigning the network for the small company.
They are requesting that the budget is kept as minimal as possible. The company
Gadgets INC. has many file and print servers that they would like to remain online in
the newly done network. This network has 100 workstations. With the workstations
they have 20 Windows 8 computers, 60 Windows 7 computers, 20 Windows XP
computers and four Windows Server 2003 machines. We have been told from the ISP
our internet access will be configured for us on the site. The ISP has routers and will
be giving us a static IP address. The agreement is that we have only one leased line
from our site to the ISP, the provided address is 64.249.169.4.
The newly configured network will have more capability and advantages to allow
the servers to get the data where needed quicker. With the new changes we will roll
out a new IP addressing scheme and it will not be static, it will be DHCP. This
network will have static IP s only addressed to servers and printers. We are going to
have DNS, WINS roles put onto some of the servers. We plan on delegating the
group policies where needed, any group policy that will be implemented will be
stated in the Group Policy section.
The advantages of this network will be to provide faster intranetworking, faster
speeds and allow the servers to delegate the permissions in a more efficient manner.
There are going to be exclusions, and reservations made for select
A Study On Micro Cracks Of Concrete Plastic State
In Sharif University, focus of bachelor program in civil engineering lies on
structural engineering. Therefore, it was not until the 7th semester that I was
introduced to the flied of transportation. It was then that my whole perception pf
academic life changed. I did not care about Micro Cracks of concrete in plastic
state, but I was impressed with the ability to assess value of time, or value of time
spent at bus stop for a person with specified characteristic. Therefore, instead of
running away from classes, I found myself wanting to explore more courses and to
expand my knowledge of the flied, I even expanded my bachelor duration, so that I

This research began by a concern about Tehran s ever decreasing air quality. We ran a
comparative review on studies conducted around the world and in Tehran, finding
out that the void was in fact in statistic approaches rather than deterministic. It was
vital to be organized and .... as possible in selecting our approach to overcome
limitations imposed by quality and quantity of the available data. The project
involved a comprehensive data base development mostly from online sources, such
as Open Street Map, google distance API, weather APIs, also, the land use variables
were extracted using ArcGIS. Now that variables responsible for spatial and temporal
variation of air pollution have been generated and merged, we are working on
econometrics models to explain the air pollution, using python. We are currently
gathering traffic data for another 2 month while developing our primary models with
a smaller sample of data. After finalizing the model with the full data set, we answer
questions such as to what extent length of road, traffic jams, residential heating
systems, etc. contribute to Tehran s air pollution.

Theme Of Cold In One Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich
WRITEEN ASSIGNMENT
Topic: How does the cold play an important role in the life of a person in the novel
One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhenitsyn? The word cold
plays an important role in the psychological mind set of a person and brings vivid
imagery. It has both, a positive and a negative aspect. People mostly perceive cold as
an energising climate where they can enjoy themselves with their families, friends
and spend memorable moments. But in the novel, One Day in the Life of Ivan
Denisovich, cold is described to an extreme, that people can t imagine. The concept
of cold completely changes in a person s mind when he reads the novel, One Day in

Doping is not Dope in Athletics
Doping is Not Dope Should athletes be able to use performing enhancement drugs.
Many athletes are trying to get a competitive edge on their competition and some start
by taking performing enhancement drugs, even though taking them could be
devastating and detriment to them personally. Using performance enhancing drugs
comes with many risks physically and emotionally. Performance enhancing drugs is
as known as doping . There are many kinds of steroids such as anabolic steroids,
human growth hormones, androstenedione, designer steroids and stimulants to name
a few (mayoclinic.com, 2012). Even though athletes see performance enhancing
drugs as a positive and a career advancement advantage, all of them are very
harmful to your body and has many side effects. Some of the advantages that the
athletes see in these performance enhancement drugs are promotion of muscle
building. It also helps them to recover after they have had a hard workout, which
when a normal person works out, they are a lot of times sore from the physical
activity; however these drugs make them less sore. In addition, these drugs
temporarily boost Chism 2 performance in the athletes. It does give them an
advantage over other athletes when it comes to performance of their sport. But it is
an unfair advantage. While taking performance enhancing drugs, comes many side
effects. For both men and women there are detrimental side effects such as
circulatory problems,
Disparate Discrimination And False Attachment

The State System Of Higher Education
The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) has, for decades,
provided an opportunity for students of all backgrounds to pursue higher education.
PASSHE has been an institution that allows students to gain knowledge, experience
and skills that can be applied to not only variables within their major concentration
but also within their everyday life. The state system has, for generations, developed
the traditional and nontraditional student s critical thinking and awareness that
allows these individuals to become contributing members of society whether it be
through monetary gains or social and environmental sustainability. However, through
many different outputs the state system is being threatened and faces problems that

This means a major decline for almost all universities programing as well as
environmental change to each school. This recent decline in the state budgeting
system primarily affects faculty, staff and students. Reasoning why a few Passhe
schools had to make cuts in their faculty and staffing rosters. Getting rid of professors
draws a two way deficit on both the programing system and students. Most programs
have been cut due to recent budgeting declining. Without a representative being able
to teach the subject, it no longer has any use to the department. Meanwhile, students
then have to be condensed in larger class sizes for the remaining professors to teach
them. Unfortunately, this brings a significant drawback on each university, making it
unsatisfying by some high school graduates who look into specific career paths which
are no longer an option. Enrollment is the next issue which continues to harm the
Passhe system. State funding being second to 70 percent of tuition dollars, is where
all universities under the Passhe branch will receive most of their funding. As we
discussed earlier on how the state system budgeting can affect Passhe. Enrollment is
another significant factor as well. When addressing enrollment, we must first look at
the loss of many high school graduates. Most high school graduates are
either exposed to two things, being opportunity cost or traditional learning. The
opportunity cost approach is where most

into Ferd. Through Or All the Seas with Oysters, Avram Davidson stresses the
importance of not being unduly curious about others personal lives. Readers are
able to see this symbolized throughout the story as Ferd delves deeper into
uncovering the objects secret, which he eventually does, as he recognizes that there
is more to them than what meets the eye. Because of Ferd s intrusive nature
surrounding the objects double lives, the coat hangers, the red racer, and Oscar

Chemical Senses
Chemical Senses

Intro
The senses of smell and taste are chemically based senses that are unique to the other
senses in the way in which the brain interprets them. Unlike other senses which are
perceived and categorized analytically, taste and smell both pass through the
emotional response center of the brain on the way to their being stored as memories,
evoking an emotional association to their formation as engrams. Consider the
unlikely association between taste and smell and the emotional response that they
can trigger; a chemical reaction that gives off a gaseous odor , completely
quantifiable by scientific standards, can trigger a purely ... Show more content on

Unlike other senses, the sense of smell does not initially travel directly to the
analytical centers of the brain; instead it passes through the limbic system which is
the center of the brain that many of our emotions and motivations are controlled
(Smell and taste: Science of the senses [Video file], 2008). These motivations
include fear, anger, and emotions related to sexual behavior; structures of this
system also include the amygdala and hippocampus, which both play critical roles in
memory (Bailey, 2016). The amygdala decides where memories are stored in the
brain, it s thought that the size of the emotional impact that the memory holds plays a
large role in it s location in the brain (Bailey, 2016). The Hippocampus sends
memories the appropriate part of the cerebral hemisphere for long term storage and
then retrieves them when needed (Bailey, 2016). It is no surprise that with that the
sense of smell passing through these structures, that meals and tastes that are related
to emotional events, such as weddings, anniversaries, holidays, hold such visceral
reactions when triggered by a smell.

Rise Of Globalization
The rise of globalization following WWII generated three important factors that
define today s world. McNeill and McNeill agree with Pollard, Rosenberg, and Tignor
that multiple economic changes, such as the creation of financial institutions like the
International Monetary Fund (IMF) contributed to the globalizationof the world
economy. Carter and Warren further this argument by claiming that globalization
has caused shifts in the modern economy, namely the rise of Asian economic
powers. However, all three historians agree that the rise of globalization goes hand
in hand with the rise of inequality in today s world. Gaps in power, wealth, and
access to information have only widened due to the trend of globalization. The
final key factor defining our world today are the ongoing processes affecting
development countries. McNeill and McNeill argue similarly to Carter and Warren
that the end of imperialism generated new nations who quickly realized the free
market was a pathway to stability. However, Pollard et al. and McNeill and McNeill
place importance on financial institutions like the IMF forcing developing nations to
reform their economies to be subservient to the world s economy. Together, these
historians argue that the trend of globalization following WWII caused factors like
the modern global economy, the rise in inequality, and the development of new,
decolonized nations to be key determiners in the world today. As the world globalized
following WWII, the
The Denver International Airport Conspiracy Theory
Picture a place with murals portraying destruction and catastrophe, a system of an
underground city, inexplicable construction and excavation, and runways formed in
the shape of a swastika. This place is a place many people are in right now: The
Denver International Airport. The Denver International Airport has many serious and
questionable characteristics such as unexplainable symbols, images, and stories
inside and outside of the airport which lead to the conclusion that the Denver
International Airportis the headquarters for the New WorldOrder.
The whole airport is full of signs that lead to the belief of it being controlled by the
New World Order but many people don t know who or what the New World Order
is. The intentions of the New World Order are to have complete and total control
over every human being on the planet and to dramatically reduce the world s
population by two thirds. We will have a world government whether you like it or
not. The only question is whether that government will be achieved by conquest or
consent, Peter Warburg, a German born American banker, testified this before the
US Senate on February 17, 1950 (Peter Warburg). He was referring to the goals of
the New World Order. The Denver International Airport is where the New World
Order members plan and strategize their goals. The members are many of the world
s wealthiest people, top political leaders, and corporate elite, as well as the members
of the Black Nobility of Europe,
Theraputic Properties of Terminalia Arjuna
IThe potential therapeutic properties of T. arjuna have been reported extensively in
traditional medicine system and have been evaluated by various in vitro and
preclinical studies with the aim of characterising various pharmacological activities
(Table 2). Some studies have reported that the saponin glycosides content of T. arjuna
might be responsible for the inotropic effects, while the flavonoids provide free
antioxidantactivity as well as vascular strengthening, conforming the pleiotropic
actions of T. arjuna (Figure 3). Although, voluminous data is available from the
various preclinical experiments on T. arjuna, but a unifying hypothesis that accounts
for its biological activity and targets are still unidentified and under discussion.
6.1: Anti Oxidant, Anti Inflammatory Immuno modulatory actions: Till date only few

aortic endothelial cell stimulation and decreased the levels of inflammatory markers
such as TNF О± induced gene transcripts of cell surface adhesion molecules
(VCAM 1, ICAM 1, E selectin) and chemokines (MCP 1 and IL 8) showing the
promising anti inflammatory property of TA (Kokkiripati et al., 2013). Similarly, an
in vitro study carried out by our group demonstrated that bark extract of TA,

Equality In The Giver
Equality is not in regarding different things similarly, equality is in regarding
different thing differently. Tom Robbins, an American novelist, claims that
equality can t be made through imagining that everything is the same and
relatively equal. But instead, it is our perception that what we need to change;
how we see equality spread among the people, and how that equality is kept alive.
Through the drive for equality amongst the public, our modern day society shares
similar goals towards a dystopian world, while achieving it by using utopian
qualities. The Giver s society is similar to our modern day world, due to both
societies striving for equality. In Jonas s community, everybody lives an average life,
where everybody is similar in

from the blood of Medusa as it dropped into the sea after her head was severed by

The Contribution Of The Creation Of Money Essay
The creation of money is possibly one of the greatest accomplishments of human
civilization. Since the beginning of humanity, individuals have used money as a
way to pay for goods and services. Over the years, money has been used in various
forms and continuously changes to best fit modern society. Our society no longer
has to depend on gold coins, cocoa beans, or anything else of intrinsic value that has
been used in the past. In today s society, we use paper currency, which is fairly
convenient and easy to carry around with us. Over the past decade, our economy has
experienced tremendous changes due to the introduction of new cutting edge
technologies. Millennials are accustomed to a digital world and most likely will
experience the transition from paper moneyto digital money. The advancements in
technology over the past several years has allowed consumers the opportunity to
buy and sell goods over a computer network known as the Internet. The internet is
a much more convenient way of shopping compared to fighting crowds of people
at your local mall during the holidays. We must start to prepare ourselves for the
digital age of currency, an age in which a small amount of our money will actually
be tangible. Many individuals are concerned about the privacy and security issues
that may arise from the transition to digital currency. However, the more research

A Few Days By Michael Cunningham
The Hours, Michael Cunningham s telling of the lives of three women in the course
of a few days, reveals how the simplicity of objects can give insight into the
characters, just by the way they interact with them. His use of mirrors, water and
flowers explain the disparities between Clarissa s, Virginia s, and Laura s lives
suggesting that ultimately their weakness is themselves.
The constant appearance of mirrors sheds light on superstition, helping us better
understand Laura s connection with Mrs. Dalloway. She contemplates life and
whether or not it is worth living. Constantly thinking about suicide creates a dark
gloom over her that only leaves when she becomes truly free. A lot of her reasoning
behind not killing herself is because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She does not allow herself to look into the mirror because the mirror is dangerous;
it sometimes shows her the dark manifestation of air that matches her body, takes
her form, but stands behind, watching her, with porcine eyes and wet, hushed
breathing. (Cunningham 30). By not looking into the mirror, she gives into the
shadow s presence instead of facing it head on. This reflection of Virginia in the
mirror seems to be her real self who she tries to hide because she fears facing her
dark side thinking it will take over her normal self. Here dark side refers to her
insanity. Do not think of putrefaction or feces; do not think of the face in the mirror
(Cunningham 85). Virginia battles demons she cannot face alone but she still
refuses to ask for help. She feels apprehensive about her ability to write well so she
does not look in the mirror, since she might catch sight of the shadow that will disturb
her writing. Donald Winnicott, psychoanalyst in the field of object relations theory,
depicts suicide as involving a fantasy of destroying bad aspects of the self with the
remainder of the self surviving, or as a destruction of the entire self when the true self
is threatened with exploitation or annihilation (Winnicott 779). Virginia feels both
exploited and annihilated when she encounters the shadow that is actually her, so
through psychoanalysis the motive for her suicide becomes clear: escape from the
monster that is emerging.

Alcohol vs. Marijuana Essay
Alcohol vs. Marijuana
Alcohol and marijuana are two drugs commonly used and abused in the United
States. Alcohol is the number one abused drug, while marijuana is number one
among illegal drugs. While alcohol remains legal, and marijuana illegal, this does not
necessarily mean that alcohol is better for you. There have been many arguments
where people suggest that marijuana should be legal because alcohol is more deadly.
On the other hand, there are alcoholics who would tell a pothead that smoking weed
is bad for you. Both substances are very bad for your health and should not be
heavily used by anyone.
Marijuana has an immediate effect during and for about 2 hours after smoking. With
alcohol, users feel slight effects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alcohol impairs judgment and vision, and causes speeding and reckless driving. On
the other hand, there has been debate over the effect of marijuana on driving. One
study by a computer software company reported that people who smoked a small
amount of marijuana drove faster and with fewer collisions in a driving computer
game. Another study said that marijuana causes abnormally slow driving, proneness
to distraction, and increases the time it takes to react, therefore greatly impairs your
ability to drive.
Long term effects of alcohol are liver cirrhosis, stomach ailments, impotence, vitamin
deficiency, increased stroke risk, decreased mental performance, heart disease, peptic
ulcers, hepatitis, and various forms of cancer. Alcohols effects on the brain are loss
of coordination, poor judgment, slowed reflexes, distorted vision, memory lapses,
and even blackouts. Long term effects of marijuana are mouth, throat, and lung
cancer, increased heart rate, decrease in testosterone levels for men, increased
testosterone levels for women, diminished sexual pleasure, increased blood pressure,
increased stress, decreased motivation, and respiratory problems. The THC in
marijuana damages the nerve cells in the part of the brain where memories are
formed, making it hard to remember things.
Both substances can lead to dependence, especially alcohol. If one abuses alcohol for
to long and becomes dependent, they are
Media Bias And Its Effect On Society
Over the course of the past years media has taken the nation by storm. Now that we
have everything right in front of us, we are able to easily post on all social media
roots to share a topic or a comment on a subject. Repetitively many people on social
media are used to taking content that is not theirs originally, instead of making their
own. This has effect on many. Rapidly it has caused debate on issues everywhere,
causing bias to seem good, bad and different in lack of perception. Media biasis out of

youth is made up of social media, living, breathing, and sleeping alongside social

Midas Wretchedness
In opposition to the two stories recounting King Midas wretchedness, the two stories
give the Golden Touch an alternate undertone. By telling the whole backstory and
determination, the short story considered a more positive undertone. This
conflicted with the sonnet s all the more premonition and discouraging state of
mind. All through the whole story, the ruler was upbeat about his fortune and girl.
He was so devoured by his need for gold that there was no space for distress or
torment. So as long as he had his kid and room of gold, there was nothing for him to
stress over. At the point when Midasinitially got the Golden Touch, he began up, in a

Speaker: Elizabeth Gilbert.
I would like to start this analysis by first noting that she engages her audience
during the speech. As Gilbert s speech progresses, it seems less like a speech and
more like a conversation that she is having with a close friend. . She engages the
audience throughout and that makes her very easy to listen to.She smiles throughout
the speech and makes good eye contact with the audience. She also laces her talk
with humor at appropriate points. All of these things help to shrink the distance
between Gilbert and her audience. They make her likable and being liked is very
important for a speaker.
She speaks with sincere passion. In class learnt that we should passionate about the

Gilbert makes many important points and backs them up with wonderful stories and
anecdotes. However, she often runs her ideas together quickly. Furthermore, often
when she comes to a point where it would be good to pause, she fills the space with
words like you know , right? and OK . These filler words eat away at the fabric of
our speeches and make them weaker.Pausing serves us well in many ways:It allows
our audiences to absorb and digest what we have said.It can be used to signal that

a second or two, but the effect can be profound. It s been said that music is what
happens between the notes. I believe that a great speech happens between the words,
during those moments when the audience internalizes our words. Always remember to
Sin In The Minister s Black Veil By Nathaniel Hawthorne
In The Minister s Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Mr. Hooper is hiding a sin.
Others may think that he wasn t hiding a sin, however in this essay we can come to
the conclusion that Mr. Hooper did commit a sin. The reader can understand that he
sinned because of the theme his sermon was about when he first had on the black
veil. Also We can understand what the sinwas and to whom it was committed towards.
Firstly, the reader can understand that Mr Hooper was hiding a sin from the world
that he has committed. The reason why Mr Hooper has a secret sin is because he
opens his most significant sermon by discussing secret sins which makes the
congregation speculate as to what his sin might be , as said in article 1. The fact that

Mabo Decision Of 1992 Essay
The Mabo decision of 1992 was hailed as a landmark case in the history of
indigenous white relations in Australia. Overturning centuries of injustice, as well as
the myth of right by terra nullius , the case prompted the passing of the Native Title
Act of 1993, which affirmed native title and asserted that native Australians
possessed their land under common law, and in doing so ushered in a new era of
equality in Australian society. However, though correctly lauded as a milestone in
recognition of aboriginals as valid legal entities, the act was not without its problems,
and in truth has had little impact on Australian society as a whole. As we shall see,
the trend of positive reform existent in the act was not supported in practice, and
aboriginal Australians remain at the mercy of Western courts when it comes to their
land. Though the Mabo decision and the subsequent Native TitleAct went some way
to correcting past injustices, its actual impact on Australian society has been
negligible.

unoccupied or have no clear ownership. Then there is the fact that any financial

that aboriginal communities themselves don t stand to profit.
Perhaps the best known example of the Native Title Act failing to support those it
purported to protect concerns the 1998 Yorta Yorta case. As one of the first legal
challenges by native people following the passing of the act, the Yorta Yorta case was
an opportunity to prove that things really had changed after Mabo. Sadly though, the
failings of the legislation were brought into sharp focus, and the Yorta Yorta claim

In class I used the empirical format in my project to determine the quantity of beef in
the market. I used alphas before each substitute to be able to change the slope of the
demand curve if needed. In this study, they used the empirical format and used corn,
premium of each quality of meat, fat cattle, feeder cattle, and carcass weight as
variables to create the equation. They also used functional format to determine
quantity demanded. In class we discussed how this can determine changes in
demand vs changes in quantity demand. We also stated that demand is a horizontal
summation of individual demands. Which simply means many different demands
form together to create one large demand trend line. Their equation is represented
as: PGT = f(LN[QGT], POPULATIONT, GDPT, LN[T], MT). The variables
included in this equation are the natural logarithm of lbs in the beef market,
population, GDP, Logarithm of their time dummy variables, and logarithm of
monthly dummy variables. In class we used simple variables such as income, tastes,
price of subs, exports, etc. to find supply and demand for the product. The results of
the first regression model were the least accurate in this study because it produced
the lowest R squared. It explained that the premium variability was most heavily
caused by the choice select spread in beef. This means that the greater the spread on

Las Vegas Movie Analysis
Before watching this movie, I thought Las Vegas is a place that shapes many people
s life and decides their destinies. And the only determine factor of winning money is
luck. For example, when two people bring the same amount of money to Las Vegas,
one of them may become a millionaire and another person may lose everything during
one night. However, after watching this movie, my impression to statistics has totally
changed. It seems that people can use statistics to help gain the greatest advantages in
many circumstances. Also, I saw the dark side in human nature. Teacher Mickey is a
main character in the movie. He is a greedy, ambitious person who uses his students
to earn money. Obviously, he is not a qualified teacher. Therefore, I think society
should pay more attention to select teacher, because teacher can directly influence the
next generation.
In this movie, the main character Ben is a college student who is good at math. He
receives Harford Medical School s offer, however, he doesn t have enough money

The Core Values Of Zappos
The holacratic model has, already, been adopted by for profit and non profit
organizations in several countries. For the purpose of an incubation chamber,
Zappos.com has been the first organizational reality to deploy it. Zappos is an online
shoe and clothing shop founded in 1999 and owned by Amazon since 2009. During
the negotiations with Amazon, internal management s primary concern was to
maintain the company culture intact throughout the acquisition process, because a
culture that embraces the idiosyncrasies of each individual is what keeps the firm
alive and healthy. Such an emphasis on employees manifested itself in drawing up
the ten core values of the Zappos family:
deliver wow through service;
embrace and drive change;
create fun and a little weirdness;
be adventurous, creative, and open minded;
pursue growth and learning;
build open and honest relationships with communication;
build a positive team and family spirit;
do more with less;
be passionate and determined;
be humble.
The company has, even, its own consulting unit to help others emulate the Zappos
way and folklore. In 2015, Zappos formerly adopted Holacracy. One of Holacracy s
most significant innovations is making governance something that happens at every
level of the organization. Governance becomes an ongoing process that happens in

Schistosomiasis
When people think of diseases, they usually think about the diseases that are most
commonly known. In reality, there are tons of minimally known diseases out there
and some that people have not even heard of. Schistosomiasis, also known as
bilharzia, is one of those types of diseases. Although the pronunciation sounds deadly,
this diseaseis avoidable and the chances of getting infected can be slim if there is
awareness of the following information.
Schistosomiasis, also known as bilharzia, is a parasitic disease that is carried by

Unfortunately, there are no vaccines available to avoid the infection. An oral
treatment called Praziquantel is the most common treatment that is given for
Schistosomiasis. This treatment is effective, low cost, and safe. Reinfection can
occur but the risk for a severe case of Schistosomiasis to develop is much lower.
Schistosomiasis can also be prevented by avoiding swimming in freshwaters in
countries where Schistosomiasis is common such as the Caribbean, South America,
and Africa. It is advisable to research the country that you are traveling to beforehand
and inform yourself of diseases prevalent in that country. Also, the most important tip
is to drink safe water. Even though you cannot get infected with consuming
contaminated water, infection can occur if the contaminated water touches your lips
or skin on the face. Schistosomiasis is not prevalent in the United States. It is more
commonly found in tropical or subtropical areas and countries that are higher in
poverty with poor sanitation. It is highly important that travelers that plan to travel to
countries known to have Schistosomiasis cases avoid bathing or swimming in
freshwaters. It is also recommended that water used for bathing should be boiled for
up to 1 minute to get rid of cecariae.
Schistosomiasis is a serious disease that can become deadly if the proper treatments
or preventions are neglected. It s important to not be blind of the fact that diseases
The Crime Of Uniform Crime
Uniform Crime Report for 2014 states that there are four offenses in the Violent
Crime category, they include Murder, Forcible Rape, Robbery and Aggravated
Assault. They only collect their data from Law Enforcement Agencies from their
arrest reports. According to The Uniform Crime Report, Property Crime includes
these four offenses, Burglary, Larceny/ Theft, Motor Vehicle Theft and Arson. The
Uniform CrimeReport reported that there were 402,470 violent crime arrests in 2014
compared to 1,275,315 property crime arrests.
The National Crime Victimization Survey reported that in 2014 there were
5,359,570 victims of violent crime, and 15,288,470 victims of property crime. The
National Crime Victimization Survey only collects their data of nonfatal, not
reported to police and crimes reported to police against persons 12 or older.
Prevalence of crime is different than victimization because one person could be a
victim of an assault on two different occasions and they would be counted as a
victim twice yet only be considered once for the thought of prevalence. At a rate of
about 20 per a thousand people, individuals had become victims to violent crime in
2014. The prevalence of violent crime in 2014 was around 4 million people
victimized at least once, yet there were around 10 million households that had
become a victim of a property crime in 2014.
Crime is spread out fairly equally throughout the United States, the only slight
variation would be in the northeast. People in the
How Does Steinbeck Use Diction In Of Mice And Men
In the play, Of Mice and Men, Steinbeck uses imagery in conjunction with diction
to convey the moods of the chapters as the story progresses. A once very lively and
hopeful mood turns into a dismal and depressing mood through the use of these
literary techniques. To begin, in the very opening of the play, there is a stress on the
lightness and contentedness of the scene that is being described, whereas in the
opening of the concluding chapter, there is a stress on the dismalness and dreariness
of the scene. The water is warm too, for it has slipped twinkling over the yellow
sands in the sunlight before reaching the narrow pool... the golden foothill slopes

In regards to the noise found in the first chapter, far off toward the highway a man
shouted something, and another man shouted back. The sycamore limbs rustled
under a little wind that died immediately (Steinbeck 1). In this piece of text words
are used to convey a comfortable and safe environment that is near harm s way, but
also far enough away to be out of its grasp. In contrast, the shouts of men sounded
again, this time much closer than before. ... on the wind the sound of crashing in
the brush came to them (Steinbeck 6). This deeply contrast what is felt in chapter
one because words are now used to convey an unsafe, loud, and unpleasant mood,
and an image of the characters being in harm s way is portrayed. In chapter one,
words such as far off , little , and immediately exude an image and scene of safety,
that the characters are aware of the dangers of their environment, yet are unaffected.
The angry sounds of the men are described as being distant, and the loud and
distracting rustling of the leaves die down quickly, thus this use of imagery through
word choice displays the mood of safety. Opposing this, in chapter six, words such as
sounded , much closer , and crashing create this mood of unsafeness, peril, and
disharmony. In this chapter, the distant shouts of men becomes not so distant, and the
quiet and brief rustling of leaves is rather drawn out and
Kidney Stone Lab Report
Kidneys stones are a solid piece of mass most commonly made up of calcium oxalate
and are found in the kidney or ureter. Kidneys stones are formed when there is a high
concentration of a crystal forming substance such as, calcium, phosphorus, and
sodium, and the urine is unable to dilute it. Also, if the urinelacks the substances
which prevent the crystals from sticking together, this creates an ideal environment
for the stones to form. One type of a very common kidneystone is, calcium oxalate.
The build up of the calcium oxalate in the human body can be explained using
equilibrium. Calcium oxalate is able to break down into calcium ions and oxalic acid,
and the reaction is able to go backwards as well. When calcium oxalate (CaC2O4) is
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The way the reaction shifts is dependent on various factors which influence the
equilibrium and Chatelier s principle. These factors include concentration,
temperature, volume, and pressure. The Ksp equation for this reaction is Ksp=
[Ca+2][C204 2]. By looking at this equation, you can tell that the reaction is very
dependent on the concentration of the calcium ions and the acid. For example, if
the Ksp value is too large, that means that the concentration of the products is
much too high and the equation will shift to the left producing more calcium
oxalate which means more kidney stones will be formed. If the Ksp value is too
low, than that means that that concentration of the reactants is much too high and
the right reaction will be favoured producing more calcium ions and acid. Going
back to Chatelier s principle, if the amount of calcium or oxalic acid is increased
from equilibrium then the the reaction will shift to the left making more of
calcium oxalate. Therefore if someone were to have a diet high in oxalic acid, they
would be more likely to form kidneys stones compared to someone who doesn t eat a
lot of foods with oxalic acid. A very basic and easy way to prevent kidney stones
from forming is to drink plenty of water
Through My Creative Writing And Reading Experience, I
Have
Through my creative writing and reading experience, I have been exposed to a
variety of literary genres. My preferred genres have consistently been free verse
poetry, fiction, and non fiction. For the purpose of this class, I have chosen the
genre of creative non fiction. My focus will be literary essays that address
humanity s universal desire for a sense of identity and belonging; these essays will
be written from a personal perspective, containing anecdotes, internal conflicts, and
external opinions. Free verse poetry is one of the reasons I became a writer. In
high school, it was my outlet to express myself. When I took English 240 (Regent
University), I wrote a poem titled Open City, and I was convinced I would become a
great poet.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initially, I strongly disliked writing in this genre, mostly because of fear. Before
taking English 305, I hated writing about myself because it was too personal and
awkward. My professor for English 305 encouraged me to keep an open mind, and I
halfheartedly heeded his advice until I read How It Feels to Be Colored Me. After
reading Hurston s essay about racism and discrimination, I felt compelled to
respond. I wrote and struggled for weeks until produced an essay called A Ripped
Out Prologue. My work addressed how it felt to be an adopted from China. While I
had written several non fiction pieces before, this particular essay made me
understand why people write non fiction. Creative non fiction exposes truth in a
beautiful way. Non fiction tells stories of survival and endurance; it tells others that
they are not alone in their suffering. English 326 also heavily influenced my
decision to pursue creative non fiction. One of the required essays was a literary
journalism piece. My essay, Gender at the Pool, was about a lifeguard s experience
with gender inequality. Even though I do not plan to have a future in literary
journalism, this essay taught me that non fiction is much more than just about me.
Literary non fiction is about people real life people and their experiences. After
taking English 326, I knew creative non fiction was my desired future
Technology And Technology
Living in a world where there is new technology advances is an exciting and stressful
experience. Technology has become a social addiction and the phone has become
their heartbeat, something we cannot live without. How does all the advancements in
technology affect our sense of community? Does technology affect how we define a
community? By the end of reading this paper you will be equipped with the
knowledge to answer those questions justly. The biggest affects technology has had
on society is texting, online gaming, and social media. (Talk about what a community

TEXTING
Texting is a huge part of everyone s daily lives and has given us the ability to
communicate with anybody around the world without speaking a word, which is a
powerful thing. We could be in our college classes and texting friends in a group
chat while our friends are all in a different location in the world. This reality of
being able to communicate with anybody any time has an impact on what our sense
of community is. Texting can be problematic to speaking to a person or a group of
people, because according Professor Mehrabia, communication is only 7 percent
verbal and 93 percent non verbal. The non verbal component was made up of body
language (55 percent) and tone of voice (38percent). (http://ubiquity.acm.org
/article.cfm?id=2043156) Missing out on 93 percent of communication can have
detrimental results. This can lead to misinterpretations of what an individual is saying.
The Sociological Imagination, By Martin Luther King
Martin Luther King wrote the following in a campus newspaper, the Maroon Tiger
1947,
It seems to me that education has a two fold function in the life of man and in
society: the one is utility and the other is culture (King, 1947).
This essay will analyse via the sociological imagination, whose interests does
schooling serve and why? In addressing this question, one needs to discuss why is an
education so valued in Australia today.
Education has had three phases of development according, to Van Krieken, 2013.
Each phase being associated with a set of beliefs about the nature and purpose of
education. Firstly, the advent of the modern system from the mid 19th century to
World War II, influenced chiefly by liberal humanist ideas. Secondly, post World
War II expansion into the late 1970 s was influenced by social democratic beliefs.
Finally, the increased marketisation of education which has been influenced by
neoliberalism since the 1980 s (Krieken, 2013, p. 149).
In Australia, post World War II the federal government began to take an increasing
role over the states in education, as states were finding it increasingly difficult to fund
higher education due in part to the baby boom post World War II and the requirement
for more university trained teachers and by the late 1950 s. Furthermore, politically,
grouwing desire among politicians to enable more potential students to enroll in
higher education(Krieken, 2013, p. 150).
Moving forward in time, a series of government

The Movie Pocahontas Was Released By Disney Essay
The movie Pocahontas was released by Disney in 1995, and its sequel Pocahontas
II: Journey to a New World three years later. Together the movies depict, to a certain
extent, the story of Native American princess , Pocahontas. I will watch both movies
in their entirety, paying close attention to detail, and take note of how exactly the
story is portrayed. Afterwards, I will research as much as I can about Pocahontasand
compare it to what is presented in the Disney film. I will then asses why I think,
exactly, the filmmakers left out or changed what they did.
Due to the fact that I am dealing with a story that involves English colonization, a
situation that I know for a fact involved genocide and oppression of the natives, I
suspect that most of my findings will lead me to believe that Disney changed the
story in a way that makes it as innocent as possible.
There are a few historical inaccuracies in the movie that I am already aware of and
plan on questioning. Why doesn t the movie show more death? Why is her age not
accurate in the movie? Why is Pocahontas portrayed as an only child instead of a
sibling of 19 other children?
I will search the databases EBSCOhost and JStor with the following key words:

to find which articles offer the most insightful perspectives.

Feudalism In Song Of Roland Analysis
Feudalism in Song of Roland
Song of Roland, the oldest major surviving work of French literature, is an epic
poem based on the Battle of Roncevaux Pass in 778 C.E. between the Franks and
the Basques. It is believed that the epic circulated in song form before it was
written down between 1040 and 1115 by Turoldus, a Norman poet. The epic
served a political role in inspiring the Frank Christian warriors during the Crusades
of the 1100 s, a series of wars against the Islamic world over the control of
Jerusalem. The center of the story is Count Roland, a Christian knight from King
Charles army, and the fight against King Marsilion and the Muslims of Saragossa of
modern Spain. Due to the time in which it was written, the epic features the social,
political, and economic system of feudalism. Feudalism was based on the exchange
of land for military service (Alchin 1) between the king and his vassals. This system
was used in Christian medieval Europe between the 9th and 15th centuries. In Song
of Roland, feudalism is portrayed through the concepts of hierarchy, rights and
obligations, and the perfect knight.
Feudalism works through a socioeconomic hierarchy that is reflected in the epic. In
Christian medieval Europe, feudalism...resembles a pyramid, with the lowest
peasants at its base and the lines of authority flowing up to the peak of the
structure, the king (Alchin 1). However, the pyramid does not stop there, as God
and the Pope, in that order, occupy positions at the top. The king claimed
ownership of all the land in the country, but he sometimes granted areas of land
called fiefs. The recipients of these areas were lords, who were men of high office.
In the pyramid, these lords were below the king and pledged their loyalty by
swearing to serve and protect [him] (Alchin 1). The lords gave some of this same
land to the subordinate rank, the vassals. The vassals, also called dukes and counts,
were men who provided allegiance and services to the lords and the king in return
for fiefs. Among the vassals were the knights, who were less powerful military men
(Alchin 1) who fought for the lords and the king. Lastly, at the bottom of the
pyramid were the peasants, who belonged to the [vassal s] land and

position within the society is preordained with little to no wiggle room. In the case
of Stalin, he ensured there would be no question of his authority by surrounding
himself by subordinates who served him (did as they were told and served a
purpose within his regime) and those subjects who may have questioned him feared
him for those who offered the slightest bit of opposition were executed or exiled.
However, there were those who loved him. Strong and Killingsworth (2011) quoted

282). One of Stalin s tactics to establish his social power was through manipulation
and control of the media (Strong Killingsworth, 2011, p. 407). Stalin seemed to be
quite skilled in his use of the media to portray the image of himself that he wished
his followers to see. News articles were written in such a way to cause people feel
as if Stalin was synonymous with power. All of this media manipulation cemented
the growing bond between Stalin and his followers making them love him all the
more (Strong Killingsworth, 2011, p. 407). Thereby exerting his social power
through literature and by using the manipulation of media created a God like image
of himself that his followers loved and adored. Certain individuals believe that it is
unimaginable the atrocious acts a dictator will orchestrate to ensure the submission
of his followers to his rule. Leading them to wonder why people follow dictators?
In the book, The Psychology of Dictatorship by Fathali M. Moghaddam (2013), the
author addresses several aspects as to what it means to live under a dictatorship. The
first point of interest is how individuals tend to assume the worldview of their
particular culture (p. 47). Shiraev and Levy (2013) explain that when this happens, it
is called groupthink (p. 283) within a dictatorship, each
Federal National Mortgage Association ( Freddie Mac )
In 2008 two government sponsored enterprise (GSE), Federal National Mortgage
Association (Fannie Mae) and the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation
(Freddie Mac), received the second largest bailout in the United States, totaling $187
billion. The bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac drew attention to the problems
with too big to fail (TBTF) entities and government guarantees. The bailout
highlighted the lack of market discipline and encouraged moral hazard.
The erosion of the prerequisites of market discipline by GSEs creates moral hazard.
According Tony Fiennes (2016), market discipline is the way in which market
participants influence a financial institution to act in the best interest of shareholders,
through monitoring its risk profile and financial position (Fiennes,1). Fiennes (2013)
states that three conditions must be present for market discipline to exist and be
effective. Market participants must have access to relevant information and have
incentives to monitor corporations. Additionally, the market must have a competitive
environment so that investors can decide on the best investment (Fiennes, 1). Moral
hazard is the idea that, under certain circumstances, individuals will alter their
behavior and take on more risk (Pettinger,1). This paper will examine how market
discipline is destroyed in the mortgage industry by Fannie Mae s and Freddie Mac s
too big to fail size and government backing.

Yeh-Shen Myths
From the oldest and mysterious myths to the most tragic folktales, they all have a
story to tell. All myths, folktales, fairy tales, and fables are all still relevant in our
society. They remind us of our wrongdoings such as greed, envy, bloodlust, too
much pride and sometimes feelings like pain, heartbreak, suffering, sadness, etc.
Myths were very popular in Ancient Greece and were used to explain things that are
usually indescribable like nature or human emotions. Folktales were stories that are
passed down generation to generation due to tradition. Fairy tales are tales about
mythical creatures or a magical experience. As an extra, fables are an extension of
folktales yet a bit like fairy tales. Fables are stories that are told throughout... Show

It all started with an envious goddess, Eris the goddess of discord. She had caused
a problem between three Olympians, the goddesses Hera, queen of the heavens,
Athena, the goddess of wisdom and warfare, and Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty
and love. They were fighting over a golden apple with the message to the fairest
inscribed on the fruit. They had gone to a young man who was the prince of Troy,
yet he didn t know. He had chosen Aphrodite because she had offered the most
beautiful woman to be his wife. His greed got the best of him and that was when
he had caused a well known war, the Trojan War. He didn t think of the
consequences when he stole Queen Helen and caused the war. The excerpt from
the Iliad started with Eris and how even if she was avenging the insult of not
getting invited to the sea queen s wedding, she was envious and had blamed the
goddesses for their foolishness in The Apple of Discord by Kate Hovey. The Apple of
Discord is a parody of the Iliad and takes a perspective on Eris. She was blaming the
goddesses for their fighting but she was the one who started it
The Pros And Cons Of Comorbidal Energy In The United
States
We did a debate about different energy resources last week and there is no obvious
winner in the debate. This debate has no winner because there are different kinds of
energy in this debate. Every energy has its own advantages and disadvantages. For
example oil/gasoline is ideal for mobile combustion and cleaner burning than coal,
but it produces significant dust and emissions from fossil fuels used to power
earth moving equipment. As we know, oil is nonrenewable and will probably be
much less available in the next 40 years or so but it has a quick ignition among all.
Oil or gasoline has its own advantages and disadvantages so it is hard is to discuss
whether it is totally bad to the United States or not. Therefore the debate does not

Sometimes, Americans prefer to use some energy resources which have negative
impacts on the environment as they are not only have negative impacts on the
environment but other advantages as well. Just like coal, its mining practices
frequently risk human lives and dramatically alter natural landscapes. On the other
hand it is economically beneficial to the United States. Coal is easy to transfer,
which means companies do not need to use a large amount of excessing money for
transferring. Americans can choose more environmentally friendly energy resources
like geothermal or wind energy, but they choose to use coal or other depletable
energy as they consider of the economy of the country. Using renewable energy needs
to spend more money compared to the nonrenewable energy fuels. At the same time it
needs to consider different aspects, like the geographic or economic factors. They

My Very Detailed Trip to the Wildlife Zoo in Arizona Essay
My family and I went on a road trip to Phoenix, Arizona in late October. This is
going to be a little description of what went on during this trip and all the different
things I saw. Most of this will be about my trip to the Wildlife world zoo since that
was the biggest thing that happened during the trip. The first thing I should
mention, Since of course it was the first thing we saw, Is the amazing scenery on
the way up here. We passed through parts of Oklahoma, Texas, And New Mexico
that I ve never seen before Although going to all three places previously! Since it
was late in October when the road trip was taking place it was quite chilly all the
way until we hit Phoenix But the scenery was great, As I mentioned before.... Show

I m going to name and give a brief description of a few notable animals from the
Aquarium first. One of the most strange and different animals I saw there was an
Axolotl, A Mexican Salamander that lives in the water although they aren t fish,
But amphibians. The Axolotl is classed as critically endangered due to the fact that
they were sold in Mexico as food and the polluted water. The Axolotl is a really
special animal and very different from others due to the fact that it can regenerate
its own limbs and their rarity. Another really strange animal is the Blind Cavefish,
A fish that is born with eyes but as they age skin grows over their eyes, Making
them blind. They are warm water fish that like the deep and dark caves of Central
America. Although they can t see, They can sense light and swim away from it,
Naturally preferring the dark. I think this fish really suites its name and they are
very interesting to watch. Poisonous Dart frog: Tiny bright coloured frogs that
seemed very active. These frogs like moist, humid places, Including the tropical
parts of Central and South America. Many species of these frogs are endangered,
And overall they are some pretty cool little frogs with a huge sting! The Stonefish is
another remarkable fish that I saw. They are the most poisonous fish known, Having
13 venomous spines on its back that can be released into prey if
Senior Care
Paying for Senior Care An Overview Guide
When one advances in age and can no longer run their daily life in their own home
or with family members, they need care. Many people look to an apartment in an
assisted living establishment, where there are aides who help with care giving
throughout the day (and night, if need be). Regardless of the specifics, care is not
cheap, period. this is especially so for eldercare. The type of care and one s
geographic location within the US dictates the cost of senior care you will meet. At
this moment, perhaps the urgent concern is this: How will I fund this living?
People s circumstances are diverse and paying for senior care has no one size fits all .
Moreover, gone are the days when the State took ... Show more content on

For veteran families, the Aid and Attendance benefit is exceptionally helpful
however, there are strict qualifying requirements as regards income, assets, need and

benefit would cater for both home care and assisted living or nursing home expenses.
Qualified veterans spouses can also obtain this benefit, except they will qualify for

The Up Series Of A Longitudinal Study
The Up Series documents the lives of fourteen children in a longitudinal study. The
filmmaker interviews these fourteen individuals every seven years to examine how
their lives progress over time and to examine how their socioeconomic status affects
their life. In this paper, Suzy will be examined from age 7 to age 56. Over the course
of the Up Series, Suzy s personality and priorities changed dramatically in almost
all of the aspects of her life. From the small bits and pieces of her life that were
captured and shown on the series, the course her life could have taken could have
been much different. Her story shows that one life event can change the course of
your whole life. In the end Suzy was the poster child of how one life event can
change the rest of your life. She is not necessarily the poster child for wealth,
prosperity and privilege that the series paint her to be. Initially, she was because
that was the type of person the filmmaker wanted to portray her as. However, in the
end, she was successful at portraying herself very differently. It took her many
years to do so, but she was able to do it. By the end of the series, Suzy changed the
way she portrays herself, and much of this change has to do with the life events she
has experienced. She experienced being a resistant child and young adult on the
series, losing a parent at a young age, finding a successful marriage and experiencing
financial instability. All of these events happened at an age the made her grow
Clothes Before The Industrial Revolution
The world moves quickly as do change. Fashion has been a part of everyone s life
from the beginning of times. Fashion is industrialized all around the world, however;
as the clothing manufacturing technology evolves over time, so does the variety of
clothing style for the consumer. Making clothes more quickly meant styles did not
change more frequently as well. Clothes before the industrial revolutionwere made
and worn differently than they are now. It all started with family companies
producing their own clothingline to sell and exchange with others. Families back
then would have to create everything by hand, which took a lot of time and effort.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Stocks and Bonds
Introduction
Stocks and bonds qualify as the two major classes of assets that are used by
investors in planning their portfolios for investment. Stocks offer the investors an
opportunity to have a stake in the company, whereas the bonds are affiliated to the
loans that are made to a company. Generally stocks are considered to be very volatile
and much risky to invest in as compared to the investment in bond (Alexieff, 2014).
However there exist different stock and bond types that have with them varying
volatility levels and the risks also vary.

A stock holder has the right vested upon him to sell the stocks at a much higher
price as compared to what he paid for, whenever he or she deems it necessary.
A stock holder has a voice in the company as they are in a position to contest for the
post of being the directors in the organization, depending on the share capital that has
been invested by a shareholder in the company.
A shareholder in a company has the right to get involved in the bonus shares that
have been declared by the company. Bonus stocks are the additional stocks that are
assigned to the stock holders apart from the dividends (Alexieff, 2014).
Investing in stocks enables one to increase the chances of obtaining credit facilities
from financial institutions like banks and the macro financing institutions. The share
certificate is used as collateral for the loans.
Stocks are inheritable, this means that one can assign the shares to the next of kin
who is entitled to the stake in the company once the shareholder deems necessary to
exit the company.
Stocks are also advantageous as the holders are only subjected to the limited liability
in cases of a loss (Mobius, 2012). Therefore, in the event of liquidating the company,
the shareholder is only liable up to the capital limits invested in the company.
Stocks can again be used as leverage for investment.
Disadvantages of Stocks
The following are some of the negative implications of stock: Getting the Last

Libertarianism And Anti-Landmines
Motorolla, a multinational telecommunication company was involved in selling
electronic parts to mine manufacturers, indirectly contributing to the deaths caused
by anti personnel landmines. Back in January 1996, the news broadcasting
Motorola s semiconductor chip being found in a Chinese made landmine in
Cambodia spurred public debate over the company s ethical code of conduct (HRW,
1997). Anti personnel mines are explosive weapons built to harm and kill enemies,
they are placed just below the grounds to eliminate mass enemies during the war.
During that time, particularly in the USA people were aware of the atrocities
produced by anti personnel mines and the public held various campaigns to combat
against it. Despite war having ended, unexploded... Show more content on

In accordance with consequentialism, their actions are considered to be wrong
because of the atrocities produced by landmines inflict massive harm to the human
welfare. One million people have been killed by exploded landmines(Care, 2003). In
fact, a utilitarian would calculate the sum of all the pleasures that result from
Motorola selling its components to the Chinese mine manufacturer and subtract the
suffering that this action has caused anyone involved. Bentham, the father of
utilitarian also wrote, By the principle of utility is meant that principle which
approves or disapproves of every action whatsoever according to the tendency it
appears to have augment or diminish the happiness of the party whose interest is in
question (Anderson, 2004). Although Motorola has no intention of inflicting any
harm to the third party involved (in this case the citizens of Cambodia), the reality is
that the landmines being planted on the homes of these people significantly prevents
them from living a happy life. It is every individual, whether it is a single citizen or
an organisation to act in ways that will bring benefit to the aggregate utility. For a
company this means running a business that is not only concerned with its direct
benefactor, but also for other stakeholders such as local community, the environment,
suppliers and

Gmo Essay. GMOs Argumentative Essay Aloja C Paulino - Academia.edu

  • 1. Gmo Essay Writing an essay on the topic of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) can be a challenging task due to the complexity and controversy surrounding the subject. The difficulty lies in the need to balance scientific information, ethical considerations, and public perceptions. Addressing the scientific aspects requires a comprehensive understanding of genetics, biotechnology, and the specific modifications made to organisms. Furthermore, presenting this information in a clear and accessible manner for a diverse audience can be a daunting challenge. The controversy surrounding GMOs adds another layer of complexity to the essay. There are strong opinions on both sides of the debate, with proponents highlighting potential benefits such as increased crop yields and resistance to pests, while opponents express concerns about potential environmental risks and long-term health effects. Navigating through these conflicting viewpoints requires careful research, critical analysis, and the ability to present a well-rounded argument. Moreover, an effective GMO essay should also delve into the ethical considerations associated with genetic modification. This involves discussing issues such as the impact on biodiversity, the potential for unintended consequences, and the socio-economic implications for farmers and communities. Balancing these ethical concerns with the scientific and economic aspects requires a nuanced approach to create a well-rounded and persuasive argument. In conclusion, writing a compelling essay on the topic of GMOs involves navigating through complex scientific information, addressing ethical considerations, and acknowledging the diverse perspectives surrounding the subject. It requires a blend of research, critical thinking, and effective communication skills to present a comprehensive and balanced view on the topic. • 2. Analysis Of The Film The Social Network Essay 4: The Social Network Critique The film that we watched in class is called The Social Network. Directed by David Fincher and released in 2010, it is an informative film which attempts to shed light on the real story behind the creation and rise of Facebook, starting from the beginning and revealing all the possibly hidden or not as well known facts behind it. Though some of the movie may be Hollywoodized and exaggerated for a dramatic depiction, with exceptional acting and a compelling story, it does a fantastic job of informing viewers all about Facebook while still engrossing them in the story and captivating their interest. The movie opens up on a scene when Mark Zuckerberg, played by Jesse Eisenberg, is dumped by his girlfriend Erica Albright after an argument. From this moment, a long chain of events is set into motion that ultimately lead to the success of one of the most prominent and influential social media sites in internet and communication history. After Mark is dumped, he is humiliated and set on obtaining revenge. From his anger, he, along with his only real friend Eduardo Saverin, who is played by Andrew Garfield, work to create a website that will serve as payback for his girlfriend breaking up with him. Created on October 28, 2003, the site that they create is called Facemash, which is the very first version of Facebook. Originally made to be a site for comparing photos, the site used pictures stolen from the school database that were plugged into
  • 3. Indian Ball Game Research Paper Indian Ball Game Lacrosse is an exciting and fast paced sport with almost nonstop action from start to finish. The strategy is simple. There was a dance before the game to celebrate the event. The players painted their bodies with symbols and participated
  • 4. The Preparation Plan for Redesigning Gadgets INC. Network Introduction The purpose of this paper is to start redesigning the network for the small company. They are requesting that the budget is kept as minimal as possible. The company Gadgets INC. has many file and print servers that they would like to remain online in the newly done network. This network has 100 workstations. With the workstations they have 20 Windows 8 computers, 60 Windows 7 computers, 20 Windows XP computers and four Windows Server 2003 machines. We have been told from the ISP our internet access will be configured for us on the site. The ISP has routers and will be giving us a static IP address. The agreement is that we have only one leased line from our site to the ISP, the provided address is 64.249.169.4. The newly configured network will have more capability and advantages to allow the servers to get the data where needed quicker. With the new changes we will roll out a new IP addressing scheme and it will not be static, it will be DHCP. This network will have static IP s only addressed to servers and printers. We are going to have DNS, WINS roles put onto some of the servers. We plan on delegating the group policies where needed, any group policy that will be implemented will be stated in the Group Policy section. The advantages of this network will be to provide faster intranetworking, faster speeds and allow the servers to delegate the permissions in a more efficient manner. There are going to be exclusions, and reservations made for select

The project involved a comprehensive data base development mostly from online sources, such as Open Street Map, google distance API, weather APIs, also, the land use variables were extracted using ArcGIS. Now that variables responsible for spatial and temporal variation of air pollution have been generated and merged, we are working on econometrics models to explain the air pollution, using python. We are currently gathering traffic data for another 2 month while developing our primary models with a smaller sample of data. After finalizing the model with the full data set, we answer questions such as to what extent length of road, traffic jams, residential heating systems, etc. contribute to Tehran s air pollution. This means a major decline for almost all universities programing as well as environmental change to each school. This recent decline in the state budgeting system primarily affects faculty, staff and students. Reasoning why a few Passhe schools had to make cuts in their faculty and staffing rosters. Getting rid of professors draws a two way deficit on both the programing system and students. Most programs have been cut due to recent budgeting declining. Without a representative being able to teach the subject, it no longer has any use to the department. Meanwhile, students then have to be condensed in larger class sizes for the remaining professors to teach them. Unfortunately, this brings a significant drawback on each university, making it unsatisfying by some high school graduates who look into specific career paths which are no longer an option. Enrollment is the next issue which continues to harm the Passhe system. State funding being second to 70 percent of tuition dollars, is where all universities under the Passhe branch will receive most of their funding. As we discussed earlier on how the state system budgeting can affect Passhe. Enrollment is another significant factor as well. When addressing enrollment, we must first look at the loss of many high school graduates. Most high school graduates are either exposed to two things, being opportunity cost or traditional learning. • 12. Chemical Senses Chemical Senses Robert J. Bernal June 6, 2016 Robert Levitt, Instructor University of Phoenix Intro The senses of smell and taste are chemically based senses that are unique to the other senses in the way in which the brain interprets them. Unlike other senses which are perceived and categorized analytically, taste and smell both pass through the emotional response center of the brain on the way to their being stored as memories, evoking an emotional association to their formation as engrams. Consider the unlikely association between taste and smell and the emotional response that they can trigger; a chemical reaction that gives off a gaseous odor , completely quantifiable by scientific standards, can trigger a purely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike other senses, the sense of smell does not initially travel directly to the analytical centers of the brain; instead it passes through the limbic system which is the center of the brain that many of our emotions and motivations are controlled (Smell and taste: Science of the senses [Video file], 2008). These motivations include fear, anger, and emotions related to sexual behavior; structures of this system also include the amygdala and hippocampus, which both play critical roles in memory (Bailey, 2016). The amygdala decides where memories are stored in the brain, it s thought that the size of the emotional impact that the memory holds plays a large role in it s location in the brain (Bailey, 2016). The Hippocampus sends memories the appropriate part of the cerebral hemisphere for long term storage and then retrieves them when needed (Bailey, 2016). It is no surprise that with that the sense of smell passing through these structures, that meals and tastes that are related to emotional events, such as weddings, anniversaries, holidays, hold such visceral reactions when triggered by a smell. • 14. Rise Of Globalization The rise of globalization following WWII generated three important factors that define today s world. McNeill and McNeill agree with Pollard, Rosenberg, and Tignor that multiple economic changes, such as the creation of financial institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) contributed to the globalizationof the world economy. Carter and Warren further this argument by claiming that globalization has caused shifts in the modern economy, namely the rise of Asian economic powers. However, all three historians agree that the rise of globalization goes hand in hand with the rise of inequality in today s world. Gaps in power, wealth, and access to information have only widened due to the trend of globalization. The final key factor defining our world today are the ongoing processes affecting development countries. McNeill and McNeill argue similarly to Carter and Warren that the end of imperialism generated new nations who quickly realized the free market was a pathway to stability. However, Pollard et al. and McNeill and McNeill place importance on financial institutions like the IMF forcing developing nations to reform their economies to be subservient to the world s economy. Together, these historians argue that the trend of globalization following WWII caused factors like the modern global economy, the rise in inequality, and the development of new, decolonized nations to be key determiners in the world today. As the world globalized following WWII, the

The Denver International Airport has many serious and questionable characteristics such as unexplainable symbols, images, and stories inside and outside of the airport which lead to the conclusion that the Denver International Airportis the headquarters for the New WorldOrder. The whole airport is full of signs that lead to the belief of it being controlled by the New World Order but many people don t know who or what the New World Order is. The intentions of the New World Order are to have complete and total control over every human being on the planet and to dramatically reduce the world s population by two thirds. We will have a world government whether you like it or not. The only question is whether that government will be achieved by conquest or consent, Peter Warburg, a German born American banker, testified this before the US Senate on February 17, 1950 (Peter Warburg). He was referring to the goals of the New World Order. The Denver International Airport is where the New World Order members plan and strategize their goals. The members are many of the world s wealthiest people, top political leaders, and corporate elite, as well as the members of the Black Nobility of Europe,

Theraputic Properties of Terminalia Arjuna IThe potential therapeutic properties of T. arjuna have been reported extensively in traditional medicine system and have been evaluated by various in vitro and preclinical studies with the aim of characterising various pharmacological activities (Table 2). Some studies have reported that the saponin glycosides content of T. arjuna might be responsible for the inotropic effects, while the flavonoids provide free antioxidantactivity as well as vascular strengthening, conforming the pleiotropic actions of T. arjuna (Figure 3). Although, voluminous data is available from the various preclinical experiments on T. arjuna, but a unifying hypothesis that accounts for its biological activity and targets are still unidentified and under discussion. 6.1: Anti Oxidant, Anti Inflammatory Immuno modulatory actions: Till date only few studies have reported the anti inflammatory actions of T. arjuna on pro inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. Since the beginning of humanity, individuals have used money as a way to pay for goods and services. Over the years, money has been used in various forms and continuously changes to best fit modern society. Our society no longer has to depend on gold coins, cocoa beans, or anything else of intrinsic value that has been used in the past. In today s society, we use paper currency, which is fairly convenient and easy to carry around with us. Over the past decade, our economy has experienced tremendous changes due to the introduction of new cutting edge technologies. Millennials are accustomed to a digital world and most likely will experience the transition from paper moneyto digital money. The advancements in technology over the past several years has allowed consumers the opportunity to buy and sell goods over a computer network known as the Internet. The internet is a much more convenient way of shopping compared to fighting crowds of people at your local mall during the holidays. We must start to prepare ourselves for the digital age of currency, an age in which a small amount of our money will actually be tangible. Many individuals are concerned about the privacy and security issues that may arise from the transition to digital currency. However, the more research you do on digital payments, the more you will realize that it is very safe and efficient when compared to paper money.

The constant appearance of mirrors sheds light on superstition, helping us better understand Laura s connection with Mrs. Dalloway. She contemplates life and whether or not it is worth living. This reflection of Virginia in the mirror seems to be her real self who she tries to hide because she fears facing her dark side thinking it will take over her normal self. Here dark side refers to her insanity. Do not think of putrefaction or feces; do not think of the face in the mirror (Cunningham 85). She feels apprehensive about her ability to write well so she does not look in the mirror, since she might catch sight of the shadow that will disturb her writing. • 35. Kidney Stone Lab Report Kidneys stones are a solid piece of mass most commonly made up of calcium oxalate and are found in the kidney or ureter. Kidneys stones are formed when there is a high concentration of a crystal forming substance such as, calcium, phosphorus, and sodium, and the urine is unable to dilute it. Also, if the urinelacks the substances which prevent the crystals from sticking together, this creates an ideal environment for the stones to form. One type of a very common kidneystone is, calcium oxalate. The build up of the calcium oxalate in the human body can be explained using equilibrium. Calcium oxalate is able to break down into calcium ions and oxalic acid, and the reaction is able to go backwards as well. When calcium oxalate (CaC2O4) is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The way the reaction shifts is dependent on various factors which influence the equilibrium and Chatelier s principle. These factors include concentration, temperature, volume, and pressure. The Ksp equation for this reaction is Ksp= [Ca+2][C204 2]. By looking at this equation, you can tell that the reaction is very dependent on the concentration of the calcium ions and the acid. For example, if the Ksp value is too large, that means that the concentration of the products is much too high and the equation will shift to the left producing more calcium oxalate which means more kidney stones will be formed. If the Ksp value is too low, than that means that that concentration of the reactants is much too high and the right reaction will be favoured producing more calcium ions and acid. Going back to Chatelier s principle, if the amount of calcium or oxalic acid is increased from equilibrium then the the reaction will shift to the left making more of calcium oxalate. Therefore if someone were to have a diet high in oxalic acid, they would be more likely to form kidneys stones compared to someone who doesn t eat a lot of foods with oxalic acid. A very basic and easy way to prevent kidney stones from forming is to drink plenty of water

Texting can be problematic to speaking to a person or a group of people, because according Professor Mehrabia, communication is only 7 percent verbal and 93 percent non verbal. The non verbal component was made up of body language (55 percent) and tone of voice (38percent). (http://ubiquity.acm.org /article.cfm?id=2043156) Missing out on 93 percent of communication can have detrimental results. This can lead to misinterpretations of what an individual is saying.
  • 38. The Sociological Imagination, By Martin Luther King Martin Luther King wrote the following in a campus newspaper, the Maroon Tiger 1947, It seems to me that education has a two fold function in the life of man and in society: the one is utility and the other is culture (King, 1947). This essay will analyse via the sociological imagination, whose interests does schooling serve and why? In addressing this question, one needs to discuss why is an education so valued in Australia today. Education has had three phases of development according, to Van Krieken, 2013. Each phase being associated with a set of beliefs about the nature and purpose of education. Firstly, the advent of the modern system from the mid 19th century to World War II, influenced chiefly by liberal humanist ideas. Secondly, post World War II expansion into the late 1970 s was influenced by social democratic beliefs. Finally, the increased marketisation of education which has been influenced by neoliberalism since the 1980 s (Krieken, 2013, p. 149). In Australia, post World War II the federal government began to take an increasing role over the states in education, as states were finding it increasingly difficult to fund higher education due in part to the baby boom post World War II and the requirement for more university trained teachers and by the late 1950 s. Furthermore, politically, grouwing desire among politicians to enable more potential students to enroll in higher education(Krieken, 2013, p. 150). Moving forward in time, a series of government

  • 40. The Movie Pocahontas Was Released By Disney Essay The movie Pocahontas was released by Disney in 1995, and its sequel Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World three years later. Together the movies depict, to a certain extent, the story of Native American princess , Pocahontas. I will watch both movies in their entirety, paying close attention to detail, and take note of how exactly the story is portrayed. Afterwards, I will research as much as I can about Pocahontasand compare it to what is presented in the Disney film. I will then asses why I think, exactly, the filmmakers left out or changed what they did. Due to the fact that I am dealing with a story that involves English colonization, a situation that I know for a fact involved genocide and oppression of the natives, I suspect that most of my findings will lead me to believe that Disney changed the story in a way that makes it as innocent as possible. There are a few historical inaccuracies in the movie that I am already aware of and plan on questioning. Why doesn t the movie show more death? Why is her age not accurate in the movie? Why is Pocahontas portrayed as an only child instead of a sibling of 19 other children? I will search the databases EBSCOhost and JStor with the following key words: Pocahontas, John Smith, Jamestown, and Powhatan .... And comb through the results to find which articles offer the most insightful perspectives. Rasmussen, William M.S., and Robert S. Tilton. Pocahontas. American History 30.3 (1995): 40. • 42. Feudalism In Song Of Roland Analysis Feudalism in Song of Roland Song of Roland, the oldest major surviving work of French literature, is an epic poem based on the Battle of Roncevaux Pass in 778 C.E. between the Franks and the Basques. It is believed that the epic circulated in song form before it was written down between 1040 and 1115 by Turoldus, a Norman poet. The epic served a political role in inspiring the Frank Christian warriors during the Crusades of the 1100 s, a series of wars against the Islamic world over the control of Jerusalem. The center of the story is Count Roland, a Christian knight from King Charles army, and the fight against King Marsilion and the Muslims of Saragossa of modern Spain. Due to the time in which it was written, the epic features the social, political, and economic system of feudalism. Feudalism was based on the exchange of land for military service (Alchin 1) between the king and his vassals. This system was used in Christian medieval Europe between the 9th and 15th centuries. In Song of Roland, feudalism is portrayed through the concepts of hierarchy, rights and obligations, and the perfect knight. Feudalism works through a socioeconomic hierarchy that is reflected in the epic. In Christian medieval Europe, feudalism...resembles a pyramid, with the lowest peasants at its base and the lines of authority flowing up to the peak of the structure, the king (Alchin 1). However, the pyramid does not stop there, as God and the Pope, in that order, occupy positions at the top. The king claimed ownership of all the land in the country, but he sometimes granted areas of land called fiefs. The recipients of these areas were lords, who were men of high office. In the pyramid, these lords were below the king and pledged their loyalty by swearing to serve and protect [him] (Alchin 1). The lords gave some of this same land to the subordinate rank, the vassals. The vassals, also called dukes and counts, were men who provided allegiance and services to the lords and the king in return for fiefs. Among the vassals were the knights, who were less powerful military men (Alchin 1) who fought for the lords and the king. Lastly, at the bottom of the pyramid were the peasants, who belonged to the [vassal s] land and

The bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac drew attention to the problems with too big to fail (TBTF) entities and government guarantees. The bailout highlighted the lack of market discipline and encouraged moral hazard. The erosion of the prerequisites of market discipline by GSEs creates moral hazard. According Tony Fiennes (2016), market discipline is the way in which market participants influence a financial institution to act in the best interest of shareholders, through monitoring its risk profile and financial position (Fiennes,1). Fiennes (2013) states that three conditions must be present for market discipline to exist and be effective. Market participants must have access to relevant information and have incentives to monitor corporations. Additionally, the market must have a competitive environment so that investors can decide on the best investment (Fiennes, 1). Moral hazard is the idea that, under certain circumstances, individuals will alter their behavior and take on more risk (Pettinger,1).
