The Significance of the Open-Source Act and Linux Essay
The Significance of the Open Source Act and Linux
In the 1980 s hardly anyone knew what a DOS attack was, most people hadn t ever seen a computer.
There was one great OS for companies back then, UNIX. Unix was commercially made, very
expensive, but was a very strong Operating System. Because of the price of equipment, many people
wouldn t get into computers, but there was no reason to. Nothing of great significance was stored on
computers.
By 1985, computers hit the mainstream, providing many universities with links to each other and their
libraries. This all came along with the invention of the Internet. Suddenly there was a great amount of
information available to those who had access. There were many people who wanted to have ... Show

Before long, every hacker and their brother knew how to find a big error in the Unix code on any
server. They exploited the servers with many different attacks, mostly being troublesome for no
reason. Phone lines and networks were taken down left and right, and many devices came about to
help deal with the phone system. Many phreakers had developed boxes, named by color, that would
do things to the phone network, just by holding it up to the reciever to play recorded tones. There was
the red box: A box that could get you free long distance calls. There was a beige box: A box that
would make any calls you made untraceable by the FBI or Mamma Bell, a nickname for the Owner of
Packard Bell, a large phone company.
With the growth of the hackers, many new ways of protecting your systems had to come about.
Routers, firewalls, and many other types of security precautions came about. They prevented many
hackers from breaking in, but all it took is one to find a way around, and everyone would know. But
with the FBI and Mamma Bell handing out arrest warrants left and right, many hackers gave up on
their former lifestyles.
For the companies and the government, everything was taking a turn for the best, until 1996. In 1996
Linus Horswald released Linux under the Open Source Act. He originally made it for a calculator for
his grandfather, but it advanced into much more. By the time he was done with

A Brotherhood That Cannot Be Broken The flag rising on Iwo Jima, a very popular, famous, and
historic photo almost anyone can recognize at any given time. I think that this photo became so
popular and considered historic because it has been a symbol of our military s patriotism and valor
America s strength, honor, and brotherhood. A strength that cannot be shaken, honor that cannot be
abjured, and a brotherhood that cannot be broken. The battle for Iwo Jima was a bloody battle against
the Japanese forces. The island took the heaviest and longest bombardment compared to any battles in
the Pacific during the war ( Battle for Iwo Jima, 1945 , 1960). The battle for Iwo Jima started in June

intensity, if not more. On the other hand, I wasn t able to choose who I wanted to go after the EIB and

me throughout the whole testing. Relating back to brotherhood, I couldn t have conquered my island if
it wasn t for my brothers that were with me throughout the entire testing period. Stories of American
pride, dignity, and honor, much like the Battle of Iwo Jima, would not be a prominent, like it is today,
it would not have made history; the soldiers who fought would have just been embedded in the creator

Public School Vs. Home Schooling System
In society, people have their own techniques of teaching and learning. Parents have their own
preference on whether they want their children in a public school or home schooling system. They
have to look at the advantages and disadvantages that come with making the right choice for their
child s education. Being home schooled, does not give the child the ability to be around new people.
Some parents cannot afford for their child to be home schooled, and choose to have them enrolled in
public school. Having students in a public school has a better learning aspect and more affordable.
Parents have to look at the optimistic choices that come out of their child attending a Public school.
Public school is a place for students to interact and communicate with their peers. Students learn how
to act with their friends, either in a negative or positive manner. They have to learn to associate with a
diverse culture of people. Children have to understand different personalities because everyone is not
the same. Parents have to be willing to let a child go out and find their personality and some freedom.
A public school offers advanced learning and skills for children of all ages and disabilities. Public
school allows students to have full attention and extra help from their teacher. Especially if the child is
having problems at home, they have another adult person they can look to for help. They are given
counselors that are specialized to assist students with their difficulty either

The Admission Of A Grad School
Personal Essay to the Admission of a Grad School
1. What draws you to this program right now?
My desire has always been to venture into the field of arts and design. In the process of exploring the
right life and career path from the unprecedentedly prosperous diversification of art and design, I have
realized that since we live in the era of digital technology innovation, the rising demand of applied arts
(multimedia and industrial design) is far beyond the range of traditional arts (drawing, painting,
sculpting, etc.) in our society. With this observation, I have made a decision to target one of the most
recently emergent and burgeoning design discipline, human centered interaction design, after making
a comprehensive analysis of my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I see your graduate program as an excellent opportunity for me to pursue my dream, for it will allow
me to develop relevant design skills which will enable me to make positive impact to the society.
2. What experiences have best prepared you for this work in interaction design and community
engagement?
After I completed my bachelor degree, I realized that nothing would be more important to me than
being responsible for my own life. The next logical step for me was to drag myself to the right track.
To do so, graduate school was definitely the ultimate decision. In order to furnish myself with
essential knowledge of applied arts, I spent two more years studying digital art and design based on
Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Flash, InDesign is currently under
self taught progress), sound design (Pro Tools), and video design and editing (Final Cut Pro)
applications. I finished all of the chosen lab based design courses with satisfactory grades.
Additionally, I believe earning a mobile UX UI design certificate was definitely a significant
experience towards the graduate education which I intend to pursue. Throughout the challenging
activity based group project, I have learned about and practiced a human centered process, focusing on
hands on applications of user centered design approaches such as storyboarding user scenarios, user
testing of paper prototypes for designing and developing native mobile

Understanding contemporary organisational structures and contemporary people management
practices.
Introduction
For centuries organizations in business, government and military treat human resources either as part
of a leadership team driving the business or mission while others are expendable in war as soldiers or
clerks requiring ongoing direction and scientific systems in place (Taylor 1911). Aristole around 384
BC said this eloquently Some are by nature free, others are by nature slaves. The condition of slavery
is both beneficial and just (Aristotle in Kuhn 2009, pg. 10). Around nearly 2,500 later new companies

Auteurism In Alfred Hitchcock s Film Rear Window
Always a viewer, and never an active participant. When watching a film, an audience is allowed to
look in another person s life. All the audience can do is sit in their seat, and watch the events as they
unfold in front of them. The audience can laugh, cry, and scream in their seats, but nothing they do can
change what is about to happen. Alfred Hitchcock is famous for his suspenseful films, which leaves
his audiences screaming. In Hitchcock s film Rear Window, he portrays a wheelchair bound
photographer who spies on his neighbors from his apartment window and becomes convinced one of
them has committed murder. The perspective the film uses is the photographer s, L.B. Jefferies.
Although the film is from the perspective of Jefferies, Hitchcock ... Show more content on

Then camera moves to Jefferies, asleep in his wheelchair with a cast on his leg. A picture of a broken
camera and picture of a car crash with the tire flying out towards the point the picture was taken, the
audience can assume that Jefferies broke his leg by taking that photograph. Alfred Hitchcock does this
with many of his films where he gives snippets of information to the audience, so they place two and
two together to understand the plot of the story. With the wondering camera the audience is able to
actively search with the camera for the hints or clues. When the audience finds the hints or clues a
sense of payoff is felt. The wondering camera is what allows Hitchcock to obtain suspense, because
when the audience sees that Mr. Thorwald sees Jefferies, the audience knows Thorwald is going to
come after Jefferies. While the audience also knows that Jefferies cannot leave his apartment because
he is in a cast, information that Thorwald does not know. Knowing that Jefferies cannot run makes the
audience sit on the edge of their seat because they want to tell Jefferies to hide, or something but they
are just as useless as Jefferies was Lisa was in the grips of Thorwald. Another way Hitchcock achieves
suspense is by using comic relief to act as the audience s release. This can be accomplished by
something as trivial as

An Audit Report On An Auditor
Introduction
An audit report is an opinion written by an auditor regarding the financial statements of an
organization. The report is prepared using a format that is standard and generally accepted. However,
there can be variations in the report; it only depends on the circumstances of the work and the
engagement of the auditor (Asare Wright pg. 198). An auditor s opinion can either be a clean opinion,
qualified opinion, adverse opinion or a disclaimer opinion. An honest opinion is given if the financial
statements show a fair representation of an organization s financial position. A qualified opinion is
offered if there were any limiting factors imposed on the work of the auditor. An adverse opinion is
delivered if there was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the two audit reports of 2014, and 2015 we can see that there was communication between both
parties that is the auditors and the accountants of the firm. The ISA was used as a guideline on how the
auditors communicated with the accountants by guiding the auditing team on the specific items that
needed communication with the governance group. This enabled both teams to understand matters that
related to audit and also was a base for a working relationship that was constructive. The auditors
focused on this ISA to ensure that they remained objective, transparent, and independent as they
conducted the audit of the financial statements of the enterprise and also the reporting of the audited
information (Andon O Dwyer, pg. 1400).
The audit reports of 2014 and 2015 use the ISA 570 where the auditor responsibility has to audit the
financial reports about how the management uses the going concern aspect when preparing the
financial statements. Therefore, the going concern assumption allows one to view a company as a
business that will continue with its operations in the future. Additionally, the management prepares
their financial reports using this assumption unless the organization intends to cease its operations or
liquidate their assets (Bhattacharyya, pg 20). Therefore, the auditors in both reports show that the
organization is going to continue with their transactions shortly because the assets together with the

Physics Of A Simple Wave Simulator
Physics in the Classroom The activity that I chose, Simple Wave Simulator, covers the ideas of what
the properties of a simple wave are. This simulator enables the student to choose whether they want to
make a rope wave, simulating a transverse wave, or a longitudinal wave, which simulates a sound
wave. The student is also able to change certain properties of the wave, such as frequency, amplitude,
and the speed at which the wave is traveling. While using the simulator, students are able to track data
such as values of wave speed, frequency, amplitude, wavelength, and period. The interactive activity
found on the link, pictured below, is something that I found to be very useful. It gives you the
opportunity to visually see the differences within the waves when you change the different aspects of
them. You can change one component at a time, or all at once and have the ability to compare and
contrast what each of them visually look like.
The core ideas for this activity is to, one, show that the wavelength and frequency are related by how
fast the wave travels. This will depend on what type of wave we are looking at, and through what type
of circumstances (medium), it is traveling. As stated before, the simulator shows the change in
structure of each of the waves created as its frequency or amplitude is changed. It also, as stated
before, shows how the wavelength and wave speed are related to each other.
One of the main cross cutting concepts is patterns. Patterns

The Effectiveness of the International Criminal Court Essay
There is a close relationship between human rights and criminal law. The scope of my paper will
surround human rights and the International Criminal Court (ICC) in addition to human rights and
international crimes. International criminal justice in this context speaks to those interested in
prosecuting against the background of international human rights and humanitarian norms. The use of
criminal law has many positive effects and pursues many goals that are worth considering. For
example, deterrence, accountability and punishment are important principles that will be discussed in
the context of human rights. Is the International Criminal Court an effective method to promote and
protect human rights internationally? If so, why and how? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To support my argument, I will first discuss the evolution of international criminal justice and the ICC.
Then I will address my three subsidiary arguments. First, I will argue that the International Criminal
Court is effective because it increases accountability of human rights violators. Secondly, I will argue
that the existence and use of the court increases disapproval and deterrence which protects human
rights making the ICC effective. Third, I will argue that the International Criminal Court is effective
because it allows for a universal standard of acceptable and unacceptable behaviour as well as
transcends and empowers national jurisdictions. Finally, I will address the counter argument and
conclude.
The Evolution of International Criminal Justice and the ICC
The evolution of international criminal justice is important to consider. Two ad hoc tribunals, the
International Criminal Tribunal of Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Criminal Tribunal of
Rwanda (ICTR), have facilitated the adoption of the ICC. The ICC came into existence on July 1,
2002. The court operates on the principle of complementarity which means that the court does not
function unless a state in question is unable or unwilling to investigate and, if warranted, prosecute for
one of the covered crimes. Whereas the ICTY and the ICTR had primary jurisdiction and could
supersede state action, the ICC only has the aforementioned

Single-Gender Classrooms Essay
It is no secret that, in general, boys and girls differ in their learning styles. Capitalizing on these
differences could advance classroom performance. With on going concerns about student success in
school, any changes in the classroom that could increase student achievement should be considered.
Recognizing the learning differences between boys and girls, one of the changes that could be
instituted is single gender classrooms.
Single gender classrooms would allow boys and girls to be instructed in a way that is conducive to
them. Literature choices could be offered to girls that are different from the ones offered to the boys.
Science experiments for the boys could be more hands on and messy as opposed to the girls science ...

Review of the Literature When it comes to the classroom, there are several differences between girls
and boys. There are physical differences in the way their brains work, differences in the room
temperature that is best for boys and girls, and differences in how girls and boys respond to various
tones of speech (Sax, 2006). While girls prefer soft spoken teachers, Sax (2006) notes that boys prefer
to be spoken to loudly and in short, direct sentences with clear instructions (p. 195). According to Sax
(2006), the ideal ambient temperature for boys is about 69 degrees and about 75 degrees for girls (p.
193 194). Further differences involve how boys and girls learn. McNeil states that boys may learn
better under pressure and when allowed to move around...while girls may perform better in group
situations and with a lot of encouragement (McNeil, 2008). Because of these many differences, it
would stand to reason that boys and girls would benefit from being in separate classrooms. According
to Hughes (2007), the teacher would be able to concentrate on the learning styles of each sex and use
the styles to bring out the academic best in each students. Lessons and activities could be designed
with a single sex in mind (p. 11). As Principal John Fox states, the single sex environment enables you
to actually focus on the particular needs of each gender, and those needs socially and

Italy Swot Analysis

Italy is situated is the center of the Mediterranean Sea. The main strength of geographical location is
that Italy belongs to the coasts of four different seas (Adriatic Sea, Ionian Sea, Tyrrhenian Sea and
Ligurian Sea). There are two large mountain ranges in Italy: Alps and Apennines. It is a big plus for
tourism sector of the country. Tourism is one of the fastest growing and profitable sectors of the
national economy. Italian climate is very different. It is comfortable to travel to this country in every

And now unemployment is growing too fast. The problem is that Italians tend to enter the work force
at an older age. They take longer to find jobs and tend not to leave those jobs once they have them. As
a result of it, many Italians turn to more flexible but illegal work. Speaking about criminality, it is
necessary to say about Italian mafia. Based on the report of 2009 year, commissioned by Italy s
parliamentary anti mafia commission, it is possible to say that now it is silently prospering, moving on
from spectacular crimes and massacres to business and politics, with a prudent dose of intimidation
and violence in a bid to take over the fundamental role of the state. The highest concentration of
people living under the shadow of the mafia, 95.9%, was in the province of Agrigento in Sicily,
followed by Naples, at 95%. (Tom Kington, guardian.co.uk, 2009). Now Italy has many problems in
economic sector. The first is that it has very high debt level. Because of it Italy now is in crisis
situation. Also Italian living standards have a considerable north south divide. Italy suffers from
structural weaknesses due to its geographical conformation and the lack of raw materials and energy
resources. The country has an inefficient state bureaucracy, low property rights protection and high
levels of corruption, heavy taxation and public spending that accounts for about half of

The Advantages Of Distance Education Vs. Traditional...
Distance education is a unique type of education that is available online. Lessons are given, along with
assignments; assignments are then completed and submitted through the internet. This type of
education is an alternative to traditional education. It is not for everyone; however, it has become
popular among people who work or stay at home. While distance education has its defects overall, it s
a great way to start or finish post secondary education. Nevertheless, distance education can help
people who decide to take this step. One of the advantages of distance education is its convenience;
imagine getting a college education without having to move to another city or state. With online
education, you can benefit from that and many other things. Online education is a great way to get
educated if one is unable or not ready to move. I am benefiting from this convenient way of learning,
and so far, it s been great. Besides its convenience, distance education also has a better price. The cost
of distance education is lower than traditional education. Tuition itself can result up to four hundred
dollars cheaper online than on a campus. While four hundred dollars may not seem like a big
difference after a while, four hundred dollars can accumulate into a lot of money. Apart from tuition
one can also save on other things like gasoline and parking fees. Since the educating is taking place
online, the only thing needed is internet; there is no need to buy gasoline since one

This paper will begin with an overview of the incorporation of child labour in Britain, the conditions
in which the children worked, and a summary of the elements of the Acts of 1833 and 1844 the two
laws that are regarded as having made the greatest impact on participation and treatment of the
children. Next, the varying stances of the aforementioned central critics on the effects of the laws
within the textile industry will be reviewed, followed by a discussion of their effects on the education
system; and to conclude the evaluation of the textile industry, a cross evaluation of the various critical
opinions will then be presented. Finally, the paper changes focus from the textile industry to the
effects of the child labour laws on the non textile industries.
During the Industrial Revolution, Britain s working landscape made a dramatic shift from agricultural
to factory based mass production of forged resources such as textiles, iron, and glass. With this change
of focus came the necessity for a greater amount of labour. Employers soon discovered that they could
employ a child in the place of an adult since all workers lacked experience due to the newness of the
technology; the machines were powered by forces other than a man s strength, and they could pay

The Oil And Natural Gas Resources
In North Dakota, the nation s second largest petroleum producing state after Texas, the number of rigs
has dropped to 65 from some 191 last year. More than 10,000 jobs have been lost. And unemployment
insurance benefits have risen by a reported 115 percent (Bobb). The Bakken Formation is the oil and
natural gas resource in North Dakota. The Bakken Oil Field in North Dakota is young, at only ten to
fifteen years old. It has experienced tremendous growth and success, but is now in its first recession or
bust cycle. The drop in oil prices on a worldwide level has forced oil companies to stop drilling. Prices
of Bakken Oil topped out over one hundred dollars per barrel, and now are in the teens. Because of the
drop, it is not profitable to drill new oil wells. The result of fluctuating prices is a continuous boom
and bust cycle in the oil industry. When oil prices drop, most people think of the positive sides and
personal benefits of inexpensive fuel. However, many people do not take into consideration the
negatives. People who rely on oil field production, as well as supporting industries are adversely
affected through job layoffs and company bankruptcy (Bringe). As a result of lower oil and gas prices
in the Bakken Oil Field, North Dakota has experienced overbuilt housing, a financial crisis, and
resource company bankruptcy. One effect of low oil prices in North Dakota is overbuilt housing.
Developers and towns accurately predicted a boom, so many houses and apartments

Fedex, An International Express Shipping Company
Page 1
Federal Express, or now known as FedEx, is an international express shipping company that ships
anything from envelopes and small packages to large freight. It was the brain child of college student
Fredrick Smith, when in 1965 at Yale a professor assigned the class to invent an industry. At that time
the only option companies had was to utilized passenger routes to ship packages, which was not very
efficient for time sensitive deliveries. Six years later after Smith left the military he bought a small
company and experienced how difficult it was to get supplies delivered within a couple of days.
Remembering the paper he had written in college, Smith founded Federal Express in 1973. Starting
with 14 small planes today it has grown into the world s largest al cargo air fleet.
By 1980 FedEx was way ahead of the competition and the company was growing by 40 percent per
year with 1 billion in revenue. Through many international acquisitions and mergers they have grown
internationally and now delivery to over 220 countries. As the demand for express freight shipments
increased so did the need to ship and receive documents overnight. The overnight letter service was
introduced by FedEx in 1981 and is now a part of standard business practices for most companies in
America and the world. Many companies have multiple overnight deliveries and pickups throughout
the day. FedEx saw the future potential of overnight letter, package and freight deliveries and started

Examples Of Pedagogical Model Of E-Learning
Pedagogical Models for e Learning 2.1 Preamble Pedagogical models constitute one of three main
components in the e learning continuum. The other two components are instructional strategies and
pedagogical tools or online learning technologies. All three components work in tandem to provide the
outline for a theory based design framework to facilitate the orchestration of learning activities to
deliver online learning. In simple term, the mechanism by which they function can be likened to a set
of cogwheels setting in motion all activities relative to the dimension of teaching and learning and
driving the dynamics triggered by a set of predetermined learning objectives to make learning
possible. Pedagogical models are pre cursors to defining instructional strategies. In turn, instructional
strategies provide the directions to educators to design learning activities which are accomplished
through the use of digital (learning) technologies, encompassing both asynchronous and synchronous
communication tools to orchestrate e learning. 2.2 Pedagogical Models for E learning Many
pedagogical models have been linked e learning. During the course of this essay, I shall attempt to

If I may conclude, both open learning and distributed learning are very much identical in essence, but
as to how and why educators have presented both models as separate entities, is somewhat baffling.
Just like open learning, distributed learning transcends the limitations of time and place, regardless of

Statement of Purpose to Pursue a Degree in Electronics and...
Coming from a time where black and white televisions and huge telephone boxes were a boon to the
age where the plasma, LED and LCD televisions and smart phones have become the norm of the day,
electronics have always been a wonder to me. As a kid, being able to see objects on screen without
any apparent action behind, talking on telephones and even further in time on wireless devices had
always intrigued me and this very fact of transmission has always been a compelling factor in
deciding my educational and career paths.
I am pursuing an inspiring four year undergraduate course in Electronics and Communication

In order to pursue my objectives I would need a good institution, which among other things aids
constructive learning and creates an ambience where ideas can be generated and implemented. The
United States is very well known for being technologically ahead of the other countries and for
conducting the latest research activities in various areas of chip designing up to the micro and nano
levels. Hence, I believe that pursuing a master s program in USA will help in channelizing my efforts
in the right path and in realizing my goals of setting up my own company.
In my search for a university that offers a suitable program, I came across your university and heard
about the high quality of education and availability of excellent research facilities and hence think that
it would be an appropriate place for me to learn and develop knowledge in the field of my interest.
From the information about current faculty research, which I have obtained from the university web
site, I find that pioneering research work is being done in the field of electronics at the university.
Being a part of such an excellent research team will be a major step in achieving my long term goal.
The highly competitive and intellectually stimulating atmosphere at the university will bring out the
best in me and thus excites me to apply for a post graduate program at the university. I

Karl Marx, Commodity Fetishism, An Objective, Valuable For...
To begin with I can t but mention that without assessing(considering, evaluating) Commodity
Fetishism both from the points of view of the philosophers of the past and economists and
businessmen of the present it s not an easy task to investigate the subject.
According to Karl Marx Commodity Fetishism is the perception of the social relationships involved in
production as economic relationships among the money and commodities exchanged in market trade .
In simple words it s the cult of the things selected and providing them with super valuation.
Commodity Fetishism transforms abstract, subjective aspects of economic value into real, objective,
valuable for people things.
Let me say a few words about the human nature. Each of us is material. We are sure we need more
than we really need to survive. That s probably, the main reason why socialism was unable to compete
with capitalism, especially former Soviet republics closed for bright, new, modern or brand new trade
marks. Big and small stuff becomes an integral part and an accompaniment(a supplement) to a
personality.
Speaking about the effects of Commodity Fetishism I should emphasize that they are not confined to
the sphere of production but permeate every sphere of social life. Social relationships become the
property of things and the form of false consciousness concealing real conditions.
The global effect of commodity fetishism is that we have become the society of consumers. We have
reached the freedom for but not

Economic Inequalities In Health Care
Alexis,
Inequalities surrounding both structural and distributive practices, places a greater emphasis on the
importance of using the two together. You also mentioned the relative income hypothesis from last s
week discussion. Thank you for presenting this connection. Indeed economic inequalities will
negatively impact mortality rates within any population. Sadly, higher inequality rates do lead to
worse health outcomes. For instance, Marlboro County in South Carolina has the highest income
inequality rate (5.3%). The County also has the highest premature death (11,700 per 100,000) and
lowest quality of life (physical, and mental health; low birthweight) rates (CHRR, 2016). When

I spoke about how the pharamactuel industry has been ungoverned, resulting in monopolies being
created. As new drugs are developed and marketed at higher prices, than those already on the market,
existing drug prices rise as well; even if the demand has not increased. Also, prices increase without
much knowledge of its effectiveness versus existing drugs.
I also found your discussion about Japan quite interesting. My family member has lived in Okinawa,
Japan for over a decade and he has mentioned that healthcare here is the least of his concerns; even
when he was uninsured. One year he developed a severe cold and recalled paying less than $100 for
the physicians service s and medication. In the U.S., a trip to the emergency room for just a headache
could cost anywhere from $15 to $17,797. And the median charge for an upper respiratory infection is
$740 (Fernandez, 2013). Of course, insurance policies covers many from high out of pocket costs, but
for the uninsured this amount can be crippling. As you briefly mentioned, the cost of medical services
are steadily rising, but the quality of care fails to do so. In last week s reading, Emanuel (2010), gave
an example of a fairly wealthy woman experiencing poor quality of care in some of this country s
great hospitals . Her example illustrates how quality of care is greatly being

The fashion and apparel industry is one of high profits and this is why it has attracted many

competition and this has caused an increase in the amount of competitors especially quite a bit of
small entrants within the industry. New potential entrants wishing to enter the industry can have an

The cost to enter the apparel and fashion industry does not require a large amount f capital by new

Confederate Archive
In The Afterlives of a Confederate Archive, Yael Sternhell encourages the reader to journey deeper
into the archive. Elucidating how archives are constructed by humankind people with agendas and
perspectives he quickly dispatches with some common misconceptions regarding archives. The annals
of amassed historic material have not, in fact, aged into apolitical constructions. Historical catalogs are
not only political at the date of their inception, but are also shaped by broader social and cultural
forces. With great disciplinary acuity, Sternhell provides an example of his argument, providing an
insightful critique of a supposedly objective archive. Sternhell examines the Official Records of the
Union and Confederate Armies, the quintessential ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Typically, I treat seemingly reputable historical analysis as fact, and only when pressed do I ponder the
author s motives and intensions. Even less often, do I question the political perceptions of the
organizers of chronicled archives. The sifters, and eventual arbiters of what historical ephemera
should live on. How did archives form? They are not compiled by an unemotional artificial
intelligence that omnisciently records all global human action. Moreover, to address the specific
example provided by Sternhell, it becomes obviously that the victors of various wars and political
squabbles possess more sway in how a historical record is remembered. The Union was victorious in
the American Civil War, and thus it was the leaders of the Union who got to pose the seemingly
apolitical presentation of history, which was obviously political in the very nature of its construction.
This information provided by Yael Sternhell, provides a concrete example of what Carr explored in
The Historian and His Facts. Carr argued that there was no purely objective history, that instead, it was
the historian that chooses to emphasize whatever he deems appropriate to

The Pros And Cons Of Taxing
Due to the complexity of your financial status there are four options to be chosen from regarding filing
status. You may elect to remain married filing separate with Michael. This option would not change
the landscape of the tax plan from previous years, leaving you with a tax liability of $10,438. The next
tax option implies that you divorce Michael and become a Head of Household tax payer. Filing as
Head of Household holds distinct advantages over filing married filing separately. There are
deductions available for those filing Head of Household that cannot be claimed under married filing
separately. For example, a taxpayer filing under married filing separately cannot claim a tuition credit.
Thus, a taxpayer filing separately will have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If this were the case, you could be stuck paying a higher marginal tax rate without the benefits from
Henry s additional income provided. The election to stay with Michael and file joint allows for the
lowest percentage of total income taxed.
Since the percentage of income taxed is roughly six percent when filing joint with Michael; there will
be more disposable income available compared to filing separately or electing Head of Household.
Although filing joint with Michael is the best tax plan, the most disposable income stems from the
election to marry Henry and file a joint return with him. The amount of itemized deductions available
depends on which filing status is elected. This is because of the variations presented within each
financial profile for each type of return possible. The largest amount of itemized deductions is from
the Married filing separate election due to being the only source of income available. The least amount
of itemized deductions allowed is from the election to file a joint return with Henry. This is due to
being taxed at a higher marginal rate along with Henry not providing substantial itemized deductions
of his own.
The amount of income taxed can greatly depend on the filing status elected; However, there are many
actions that can be taken throughout the year that will help lower tax liability and increase disposable
income regardless of the filing status selected. The limit for an IRA contribution in 2017 is $5,500 for

Spotify Pays Enough Revenues to the Music Industry Essay
I m not quite sure who it was that decided that music was supposed to be an insanely profitable
business. Mick Jagger has pointed out that it really only made serious money from the start of the 70s
to the end of the 90s, but somebody s written in to the NME the week complaining about Spotify and
how it doesn t pay artists enough for song plays. Compared to what? Album sales? While it s true that
an artist is unlikely to earn anywhere near as much money from streaming as they are from album
sales, this isn t really a comparison that works.

It would also be well to consider that with most music streaming services when you come across a
song that you would like to buy it is quite easy and convenient to do so from within the service, and so
in addition to greater pay, Spotify likely also causes more sales than radio play.
I wonder how many millions you need to make before you decide that you d rather a business give
you no money and zero new fans rather than a bit of both. We ve heard quite a plethora of well known
people such as Calvin Harris, Lady Gaga, and, as of a couple of weeks ago, David Byrne of Talking
Heads fame complain about Spotify, but you never hear about artists who are trying to make a name
for themselves slagging off Spotify s Business model because, even though it s probably far more
beneficial to shareholders than it is to musicians, they can still appreciate that it is an excellent
promotional opportunity that doesn t cost them anything, and might even leave them with some extra
cash!
Perhaps the consumers who don t morally agree with Spottily and its low rates should also bear in
mind that even if somebody listens to an album a lot on Spottily but doesn t quite like it enough to buy
it, or any of its creator s other products, at least the album artist has go something for their efforts. The
consumer could have just gotten their work off PirateBay, and then the musicians wouldn t have

Freedom Of Speech According To The Bill Of Rights
Freedom of speech has been part of a controversial debate for many decades. Whether or not
limitations should be placed on people s freedom to voice their opinions has become a compelling
discussion. The fact is that people feel that they have the right to full freedom of speech under the first
Amendment. But the dangers of speaking ones mind did not present itself when the first Amendment
was first created and now more than ever many view their freedom to speak as a tool to hurt others. So
there should be limits on our freedom of speech because actions may speak louder than words but
words have the power to hurt more.
People have always valued their right to speak their mind. According to The Bill of Rights Institute,

Going To The War And Dulce Et Decorum Est
The two poems To lucasta going to the War by Richard Lovelace, and Dulce et Docorum Est by

contrast each other in that, Lovelace s poem presents the prewar view of war because Lovelace never

Analysis Of The Phantom Of The Opera
This movie is one I ve came back to often, the acting, music, scenery, and the story itself is what
brought me back. I liked how every actor in this film not only fit their role, but also made it
believable. If they were to recast the actors today, I don t think they could find better actors to fit the
roles. Some of the roles in this are Viscount de Chagny Raoul played by Patrick Wilson, Christine
Daaé played by Emmy Rossum, The Phantom of the Opera Opera Ghost played by Gerard Butler,
these are just the main characters. The role of the Opera Ghost is played by Gerard Butler, his acting
was good which wasn t surprising I have seen some of his other roles and they were all well done also.
What surprised me the most how well he could sing. There any many characters that are seen

The Battle Of Lexington And Concord
By the rude bridge that arched the flood, their flag to April s breeze unfurled, here once the embattled
farmers stood, and fired the shot heard round the world... primary source Ralph Waldo Emerson s
poem Concord Hymn was written about the Battle of Lexington and Concord. Although this poem is
not a good answer on who shot first during this battle, it does open the idea about the battle itself and
makes you think who shot first. I believe that the Americans shot first at this Battle.
What happened at the Battle of Lexington and Concord? Though it has been called a battle, it was
more of a skirmish. It happened on April 19th the year 1775 in Middlesex Country, province of
Massachusetts Bay during the American Revolution. The British were marching to Concord because
of the arms depot of the Americans. The Americans were out numbered, out gunned, and not as well
trained at the British soldiers. On the side of the road there were 40 to 100 speculators of this event.
When the British arrived one of the officers rode forward waving his sword and called out to the
militia to disperse and go home, as well as telling them Lay down your arms, you damned rebels! But
the Americans did not lay down their arms so the British commander Major John Pitcairn told his men
to hold fire as did the Americans leader, Captain John Parker, who was a veteran from the French and
Indian War (1754 1763). But, a shot was fired from an unknown source. By the end of the fight eight

Canine Hip Dysplasia (CHD)
Canine Hip Dysplasia also known as CHD, is a severe condition in which as dogs begin to grow and
mature their ball and socket joints are not properly aligned, resulting in instability or laxity of the hip
joint. The malformation of the ball and socket joint cause a very painful sensation developed by the
joints rubbing and grinding together, instead of the normal comfortable smooth sliding of the hip joint.
Due to the laxity of the hip joint overtime the cartilage, making it a comfortable movement begins to
wear down. Once the cartilage starts to break down scar tissue will develop around the joint and
begins to form osteophytes. The failure of the hip joints will gradually deteriorate, eventually making
the dog s hip bones unable to function. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Constitution. According to the commerce clause, the Federal government has the right to regulate
commerce among the U.S. and foreign nations and some states. The commerce clause has led to great

or address a broad range of issues. The clause however does limit the congress to only the regulation
of interstate commerce. The interstate commerce allows business to be conducted across the state

  • 2. The Significance of the Open-Source Act and Linux Essay The Significance of the Open Source Act and Linux In the 1980 s hardly anyone knew what a DOS attack was, most people hadn t ever seen a computer. There was one great OS for companies back then, UNIX. Unix was commercially made, very expensive, but was a very strong Operating System. Because of the price of equipment, many people wouldn t get into computers, but there was no reason to. Nothing of great significance was stored on computers. By 1985, computers hit the mainstream, providing many universities with links to each other and their libraries. This all came along with the invention of the Internet. Suddenly there was a great amount of information available to those who had access. There were many people who wanted to have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before long, every hacker and their brother knew how to find a big error in the Unix code on any server. They exploited the servers with many different attacks, mostly being troublesome for no reason. Phone lines and networks were taken down left and right, and many devices came about to help deal with the phone system. Many phreakers had developed boxes, named by color, that would do things to the phone network, just by holding it up to the reciever to play recorded tones. There was the red box: A box that could get you free long distance calls. There was a beige box: A box that would make any calls you made untraceable by the FBI or Mamma Bell, a nickname for the Owner of Packard Bell, a large phone company. With the growth of the hackers, many new ways of protecting your systems had to come about. Routers, firewalls, and many other types of security precautions came about. They prevented many hackers from breaking in, but all it took is one to find a way around, and everyone would know. But with the FBI and Mamma Bell handing out arrest warrants left and right, many hackers gave up on their former lifestyles. For the companies and the government, everything was taking a turn for the best, until 1996. In 1996 Linus Horswald released Linux under the Open Source Act. He originally made it for a calculator for his grandfather, but it advanced into much more. By the time he was done with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Iwo Jima Research Papers Ralph Capistrano 20141006 1400 1515hr M/W A Brotherhood That Cannot Be Broken The flag rising on Iwo Jima, a very popular, famous, and historic photo almost anyone can recognize at any given time. I think that this photo became so popular and considered historic because it has been a symbol of our military s patriotism and valor America s strength, honor, and brotherhood. A strength that cannot be shaken, honor that cannot be abjured, and a brotherhood that cannot be broken. The battle for Iwo Jima was a bloody battle against the Japanese forces. The island took the heaviest and longest bombardment compared to any battles in the Pacific during the war ( Battle for Iwo Jima, 1945 , 1960). The battle for Iwo Jima started in June of 1944 but the invasion of the island didn t start until February 19, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 20, 2012. That is when the actual testing for the EIB took place. The testing was hard, challenging, and too steep to conquer so to say. I m sure climbing Mount Suribachi almost offers the same intensity, if not more. On the other hand, I wasn t able to choose who I wanted to go after the EIB and compete with me but I was able to choose whom I wanted to be with in this journey on going after the badge. Essentially, my company commander and four other non commissioned officers accompanied me throughout the whole testing. Relating back to brotherhood, I couldn t have conquered my island if it wasn t for my brothers that were with me throughout the entire testing period. Stories of American pride, dignity, and honor, much like the Battle of Iwo Jima, would not be a prominent, like it is today, it would not have made history; the soldiers who fought would have just been embedded in the creator s memories, if it weren t for the witnesses present to tell the tale. • 4. Public School Vs. Home Schooling System In society, people have their own techniques of teaching and learning. Parents have their own preference on whether they want their children in a public school or home schooling system. They have to look at the advantages and disadvantages that come with making the right choice for their child s education. Being home schooled, does not give the child the ability to be around new people. Some parents cannot afford for their child to be home schooled, and choose to have them enrolled in public school. Having students in a public school has a better learning aspect and more affordable. Parents have to look at the optimistic choices that come out of their child attending a Public school. Public school is a place for students to interact and communicate with their peers. Students learn how to act with their friends, either in a negative or positive manner. They have to learn to associate with a diverse culture of people. Children have to understand different personalities because everyone is not the same. Parents have to be willing to let a child go out and find their personality and some freedom. A public school offers advanced learning and skills for children of all ages and disabilities. Public school allows students to have full attention and extra help from their teacher. Especially if the child is having problems at home, they have another adult person they can look to for help. They are given counselors that are specialized to assist students with their difficulty either ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Admission Of A Grad School Personal Essay to the Admission of a Grad School 1. What draws you to this program right now? My desire has always been to venture into the field of arts and design. In the process of exploring the right life and career path from the unprecedentedly prosperous diversification of art and design, I have realized that since we live in the era of digital technology innovation, the rising demand of applied arts (multimedia and industrial design) is far beyond the range of traditional arts (drawing, painting, sculpting, etc.) in our society. With this observation, I have made a decision to target one of the most recently emergent and burgeoning design discipline, human centered interaction design, after making a comprehensive analysis of my ... After I completed my bachelor degree, I realized that nothing would be more important to me than being responsible for my own life. The next logical step for me was to drag myself to the right track. To do so, graduate school was definitely the ultimate decision. In order to furnish myself with essential knowledge of applied arts, I spent two more years studying digital art and design based on Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Flash, InDesign is currently under self taught progress), sound design (Pro Tools), and video design and editing (Final Cut Pro) applications. I finished all of the chosen lab based design courses with satisfactory grades. Additionally, I believe earning a mobile UX UI design certificate was definitely a significant experience towards the graduate education which I intend to pursue. Throughout the challenging activity based group project, I have learned about and practiced a human centered process, focusing on hands on applications of user centered design approaches such as storyboarding user scenarios, user testing of paper prototypes for designing and developing native mobile ... • 7. Auteurism In Alfred Hitchcock s Film Rear Window Always a viewer, and never an active participant. When watching a film, an audience is allowed to look in another person s life. All the audience can do is sit in their seat, and watch the events as they unfold in front of them. The audience can laugh, cry, and scream in their seats, but nothing they do can change what is about to happen. Alfred Hitchcock is famous for his suspenseful films, which leaves his audiences screaming. In Hitchcock s film Rear Window, he portrays a wheelchair bound photographer who spies on his neighbors from his apartment window and becomes convinced one of them has committed murder. The perspective the film uses is the photographer s, L.B. Jefferies. Although the film is from the perspective of Jefferies, Hitchcock ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then camera moves to Jefferies, asleep in his wheelchair with a cast on his leg. A picture of a broken camera and picture of a car crash with the tire flying out towards the point the picture was taken, the audience can assume that Jefferies broke his leg by taking that photograph. Alfred Hitchcock does this with many of his films where he gives snippets of information to the audience, so they place two and two together to understand the plot of the story. With the wondering camera the audience is able to actively search with the camera for the hints or clues. When the audience finds the hints or clues a sense of payoff is felt. The wondering camera is what allows Hitchcock to obtain suspense, because when the audience sees that Mr. Thorwald sees Jefferies, the audience knows Thorwald is going to come after Jefferies. While the audience also knows that Jefferies cannot leave his apartment because he is in a cast, information that Thorwald does not know. Knowing that Jefferies cannot run makes the audience sit on the edge of their seat because they want to tell Jefferies to hide, or something but they are just as useless as Jefferies was Lisa was in the grips of Thorwald. Another way Hitchcock achieves suspense is by using comic relief to act as the audience s release. This can be accomplished by something as trivial as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The report is prepared using a format that is standard and generally accepted. However, there can be variations in the report; it only depends on the circumstances of the work and the engagement of the auditor (Asare Wright pg. 198). An auditor s opinion can either be a clean opinion, qualified opinion, adverse opinion or a disclaimer opinion. An honest opinion is given if the financial statements show a fair representation of an organization s financial position. A qualified opinion is offered if there were any limiting factors imposed on the work of the auditor. An adverse opinion is delivered if there was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the two audit reports of 2014, and 2015 we can see that there was communication between both parties that is the auditors and the accountants of the firm. The ISA was used as a guideline on how the auditors communicated with the accountants by guiding the auditing team on the specific items that needed communication with the governance group. This enabled both teams to understand matters that related to audit and also was a base for a working relationship that was constructive. The auditors focused on this ISA to ensure that they remained objective, transparent, and independent as they conducted the audit of the financial statements of the enterprise and also the reporting of the audited information (Andon O Dwyer, pg. 1400). The audit reports of 2014 and 2015 use the ISA 570 where the auditor responsibility has to audit the financial reports about how the management uses the going concern aspect when preparing the financial statements. Therefore, the going concern assumption allows one to view a company as a business that will continue with its operations in the future. Additionally, the management prepares their financial reports using this assumption unless the organization intends to cease its operations or liquidate their assets (Bhattacharyya, pg 20). Therefore, the auditors in both reports show that the organization is going to continue with their transactions shortly because the assets together with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Physics Of A Simple Wave Simulator Physics in the Classroom The activity that I chose, Simple Wave Simulator, covers the ideas of what the properties of a simple wave are. This simulator enables the student to choose whether they want to make a rope wave, simulating a transverse wave, or a longitudinal wave, which simulates a sound wave. The student is also able to change certain properties of the wave, such as frequency, amplitude, and the speed at which the wave is traveling. While using the simulator, students are able to track data such as values of wave speed, frequency, amplitude, wavelength, and period. The interactive activity found on the link, pictured below, is something that I found to be very useful. It gives you the opportunity to visually see the differences within the waves when you change the different aspects of them. You can change one component at a time, or all at once and have the ability to compare and contrast what each of them visually look like. The core ideas for this activity is to, one, show that the wavelength and frequency are related by how fast the wave travels. This will depend on what type of wave we are looking at, and through what type of circumstances (medium), it is traveling. As stated before, the simulator shows the change in structure of each of the waves created as its frequency or amplitude is changed. It also, as stated before, shows how the wavelength and wave speed are related to each other. One of the main cross cutting concepts is patterns. Patterns ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Third, I will argue that the International Criminal Court is effective because it allows for a universal standard of acceptable and unacceptable behaviour as well as transcends and empowers national jurisdictions. Two ad hoc tribunals, the International Criminal Tribunal of Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Criminal Tribunal of Rwanda (ICTR), have facilitated the adoption of the ICC. The ICC came into existence on July 1, 2002. The court operates on the principle of complementarity which means that the court does not function unless a state in question is unable or unwilling to investigate and, if warranted, prosecute for one of the covered crimes. There are physical differences in the way their brains work, differences in the room temperature that is best for boys and girls, and differences in how girls and boys respond to various tones of speech (Sax, 2006). While girls prefer soft spoken teachers, Sax (2006) notes that boys prefer to be spoken to loudly and in short, direct sentences with clear instructions (p. 195). According to Sax (2006), the ideal ambient temperature for boys is about 69 degrees and about 75 degrees for girls (p. 193 194). Further differences involve how boys and girls learn. McNeil states that boys may learn better under pressure and when allowed to move around...while girls may perform better in group situations and with a lot of encouragement (McNeil, 2008). Because of these many differences, it would stand to reason that boys and girls would benefit from being in separate classrooms. To begin with I can t but mention that without assessing(considering, evaluating) Commodity Fetishism both from the points of view of the philosophers of the past and economists and businessmen of the present it s not an easy task to investigate the subject. According to Karl Marx Commodity Fetishism is the perception of the social relationships involved in production as economic relationships among the money and commodities exchanged in market trade . In simple words it s the cult of the things selected and providing them with super valuation. Commodity Fetishism transforms abstract, subjective aspects of economic value into real, objective, valuable for people things. Let me say a few words about the human nature. Each of us is material. We are sure we need more than we really need to survive. That s probably, the main reason why socialism was unable to compete with capitalism, especially former Soviet republics closed for bright, new, modern or brand new trade marks. Big and small stuff becomes an integral part and an accompaniment(a supplement) to a personality. Speaking about the effects of Commodity Fetishism I should emphasize that they are not confined to the sphere of production but permeate every sphere of social life. Types Of Silver Imolices At C-Nannowires Fig. 1a shows the UV vis absorption spectrum of the as prepared Ag@C nanowires suspended in deionized water, exhibiting a main peak at 386 nm and a shoulder peak at 360 nm, corresponding to the optical finger print of silver nanowires. The absorption peak at 360 nm is attributed to the longitudinal plasmon mode of silver nanowires and is similar to that of the bulk silver, and the absorption peak at 386 nm is attributed to the transverse plasmon mode of silver nanowires. These two absorption peaks suggest that pure Ag@C nanowires were successfully synthesized, and the Ag@C nanowires had a sheath thickness of ~10 nm, consistent with our electron microscopic studies shown in Fig. 2c. A few functional groups such as C O, C=C, and OH were present on the surface of Ag@C nanowires and would be useful for linking other organic molecules with diverse functions and thus can provide good compatibility between the Ag@C nanowires and the PVDF matrix. Raman spectroscopy and X ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used for further confirming the surface composition of the Ag@C nanowires. Fig. 1d shows the Raman spectrum of the as prepared Ag@C nanowires, in which the two strong peaks at 1378 and 1597 cm 1 can be attributed to the in plane vibrations of disordered amorphous carbon and crystalline graphite, respectively, indicating the formation of a carbonized layer. This carbon based layer might have originated from polymerization, aromatization, and carbonization of glucose, based on previous studies demonstrating that the hydrothermal process enables glucose to carbonize in the temperature rage 140 160 °C. Besides the two peaks corresponding to amorphous and graphic carbon, the curve showed one broad peak at 2935 cm 1, attributed to the asymmetric stretching vibration of CH in the skeletal chain of glucose. Elucidating how archives are constructed by humankind people with agendas and perspectives he quickly dispatches with some common misconceptions regarding archives. The annals of amassed historic material have not, in fact, aged into apolitical constructions. Historical catalogs are not only political at the date of their inception, but are also shaped by broader social and cultural forces. With great disciplinary acuity, Sternhell provides an example of his argument, providing an insightful critique of a supposedly objective archive. Even less often, do I question the political perceptions of the organizers of chronicled archives. The sifters, and eventual arbiters of what historical ephemera should live on. How did archives form? They are not compiled by an unemotional artificial intelligence that omnisciently records all global human action. Moreover, to address the specific example provided by Sternhell, it becomes obviously that the victors of various wars and political squabbles possess more sway in how a historical record is remembered. The Union was victorious in the American Civil War, and thus it was the leaders of the Union who got to pose the seemingly apolitical presentation of history, which was obviously political in the very nature of its construction. This information provided by Yael Sternhell, provides a concrete example of what Carr explored in The Historian and His Facts. You may elect to remain married filing separate with Michael. This option would not change the landscape of the tax plan from previous years, leaving you with a tax liability of $10,438. The next tax option implies that you divorce Michael and become a Head of Household tax payer. Filing as Head of Household holds distinct advantages over filing married filing separately. Although filing joint with Michael is the best tax plan, the most disposable income stems from the election to marry Henry and file a joint return with him. The amount of itemized deductions available depends on which filing status is elected. This is because of the variations presented within each financial profile for each type of return possible. The largest amount of itemized deductions is from the Married filing separate election due to being the only source of income available. Whether or not limitations should be placed on people s freedom to voice their opinions has become a compelling discussion. The fact is that people feel that they have the right to full freedom of speech under the first Amendment. But the dangers of speaking ones mind did not present itself when the first Amendment was first created and now more than ever many view their freedom to speak as a tool to hurt others. Although this poem is not a good answer on who shot first during this battle, it does open the idea about the battle itself and makes you think who shot first. I believe that the Americans shot first at this Battle. What happened at the Battle of Lexington and Concord? Though it has been called a battle, it was more of a skirmish. It happened on April 19th the year 1775 in Middlesex Country, province of Massachusetts Bay during the American Revolution. The British were marching to Concord because of the arms depot of the Americans. The Americans were out numbered, out gunned, and not as well trained at the British soldiers. On the side of the road there were 40 to 100 speculators of this event. When the British arrived one of the officers rode forward waving his sword and called out to the militia to disperse and go home, as well as telling them Lay down your arms, you damned rebels! But the Americans did not lay down their arms so the British commander Major John Pitcairn told his men to hold fire as did the Americans leader, Captain John Parker, who was a veteran from the French and Indian War (1754 1763).
