RESEARCH
We started off this project by researching a lot of
different music videos of all genres. This helped as it
showed to us what was needed and expected in a music
video.
Even though some of
these ideas were not
for the song I was
using they still helped
a lot as they were all
of the same genre so I
knew what
conventions I needed
to include
One of my strengths during the research task was it that I
felt I really annotated and analysed each music video
including what shots were used, editing techniques and
types of character. In doing so this helped me come up
with ideas to put into my music video. Another strength is
that I can now determine the genre of a music video by
watching it and picking out the different conventions.
However a weakness in my research was that I only
analysed music videos of the indie genre as that’s the
genre I knew I was going to do for my final project.
Analysing these helped me with my project however I think
it could have been beneficial for me to explore into
different genres to see differences between all the genres.
Apart from that I feel like my research went quite well and
was helpful
PLANNING
I think in terms of planning I planned my music video
pretty well as it was quite detailed and was almost like a
to do list i could just check off when I had filmed that. It
also helped me get organised as I knew where I was
going to go to film my shots and what my actors were
going to wear and what props I needed for my music
video. I also drew up a storyboard to know what order
my shots were going to go in.
Another part of my research that I found was very helpful was my
shot list as it made it very easy to be organized and really plan
what I was doing and when. This was helpful because I put the
estimated duration of each shot and that helped me gage how
much I needed to film.
I also put together a mood board of pictures of the same
aestethic I wanted to have in my music video so I knew the
types of outfits and locations I needed in order to achieve
it.
TIME MANAGEMENT
I think my time management was ok but it could have
been better as I didn’t have enough footage to fill the
entire audio however I did manage to fill more so it
completed it. I think I would have preferred to have 1 full
week of filming and 1 full week of editing if we could as I
think it would have helped me stay motivated and I
would have probably got it finished quicker. Next year I
will make a schedule and make sure I stick to it and leave
a few days spare incase I need to film extra footage.
TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
EDITING/POST
There isn’t one music video in particular that I think my final piece is
similar too as my music video didn’t have a storyline or anything.
However if i had to compare my music video to any I would say it is
quite similar to the ‘lucky girl’ music video by fazerdaze as it gives off
the same vibe and is essentially just aesthetic videos put together just
like mine.
TECHNICAL QUALITIES -
CAMERA
Again like the editing, the only music video I can think of which has
similar camera angles in it to mine is the fazerdaze ‘lucky girl’
music video. I think this video is the most similar to mine as it has
some location shots and some mid shots of a girl walking and that
is essentially whats in my music video
AESTHETIC QUALITIES
I think my music video definitely went to plan and fitted the aesthetic I
was going for, I especially like the shot of Lloyd skating in the
skatepark. For this shot to ensure it was smooth I actually filmed it
whilst being pushed in a trolley, I didn’t expect it to turn out as well as
it did. I also really liked at the start and the end of my music video I
encorperated the la’s album cover. Another thing I did is cut the beat
as there she goes have a distinctive beat that everyone recognizes
AUDIENCE APPEAL
I think that my music video appealed to my target audience as it is
quite modern. I think the outfits especially would have appealed to
my target audience as they were all very in trend and could be used
as inspiration. I also think the style of my video would appeal to my
audience as the vintage and retro style is very in trend at the minute.

make sure all my shots are up to the same standard and not let any of
my clips be shaky.
