Question 7 : looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?
I believe that compared to when I started the course my skills and abilities have improved greatly.
This is in all stages of creating a media piece from pre production to post production. As a result of
this I think that my final film opening is much better than my preliminary task.
Some of the things I changed when creating my full product were:
 I made sure that my camera was in focus when recording footage as this was a problem in
my preliminary task
 I also used a much wider variety of shots such as long shots and point of view shots that
were not used within my preliminary task.
 With regards to sound I spent a lot more time planning what tracks to place into my film for
effect and even went to the efforts of writing and playing my own score for the second half
of the film opening on guitar. When looking at he Diegetic sounds used I also placed a lot
more care directing and editing afterwards how and what exactly the actors said. I also spent
more time choosing sound effects such as the gun effect at the end of my shoot-out sequence
this was because in my preliminary task a sound effect that I used sounded unrealistic and
ruined the the sound quality of the piece.
 When comparing my titles it becomes evident that the ones I created for my film opening
are a lot more professional. I believe this is due to the fact that I used After effects to create
the titles for my film opening ( The Bounty Hunter )whereas I used a pre set title sequence
from premiere pro for my preliminary task (The Firing ).
 A big improvement I made between the two pieces was the directing of my actors. This is
because in my preliminary task at one point an actor suddenly jumps to the side of the room
for no apparent reason. I believe this improvement came about because of an increased level
of planning through means such as storyboards.
What went well ?
I am relatively pleased with some features of my film opening, such as the sunset time-lapse that I
believed worked as a good transition between the two major parts of my opening (the montage and
the shoot-out ). I am also pleased with the shoot-out as I think that it looks fairly exciting and builds
suspense well.
What would I do differently next time ?
If I where to start this task again I don’t think that I would have chosen such an ambitious film
genre as I found it very difficult to create a quality film without the resources needed to
authentically follow the conventions of the genre (such as a western looking setting ).
I would have also spent more time planning the timing of when I was going to shoot each part of the
film and build in extra time in case things go wrong. This is because I left a lot of my filming too
late and had difficulties with weather leading to a lot of my work being rushed .
