Prof Seggane Musisi presented on the mental health challenges of HIV/AIDS in Africa. He discussed the progression of the HIV/AIDS epidemic from the 1980s to present day waves. He outlined the major mental health problems associated with HIV/AIDS including mood, anxiety, substance abuse and cognitive disorders. Orphans and elderly caregivers also experience significant psychosocial problems. The presentation calls for integrated mental health services in HIV care programs and policies to support orphans and vulnerable groups. It recommends research on mental health issues in HIV care, especially for underserved communities.
