1. 1. I chose the movie it’s a wonderful life starring Jimmy Stewart, the movie deals with
depression. I chose this movie because I have yet to see the entire movie. Every holiday I
always get chided for not watching it’s a Wonderful life.
2. George Bailey whom exhibits classical signs of depression, he had thoughts of
hopelessness because the 8,000.00 dollars was gone. He also felt helpless so much to the
point that reckless behavior and loss of feelings caused him to plan suicide by jumping of
a bridge.
3. The character had a nursing diagnosis of:
P: Ineffective coping
E: r/t Change in usual communication patterns; decreased use of social support;
destructive behavior toward others; destructive behavior toward self; difficulty
organizing information; fatigue; high illness rate; inability to attend to information;
inability to meet basic needs; inability to meet role expectations; inadequate problem
solving; lack of goal-directed behavior; lack of resolution of problem; risk taking; sleep
disturbance; use of forms of coping that impede adaptive behavior; verbalization of
inability to ask for help; verbalization of inability to cope
S: Client exhibits lack of self control, rationalizing / planning how to commit suicide,
verbalizing no one cares its hopeless.
4. The societal and or cultural attitude regarding depression was captured and treated with
pray, which help came in the form of an angel named Clarence. The video showed that
everyone was uplifting by failed to recognize how George’s depressive state might new
therapy from a professional.
5. My reaction to the film was simple, individuals that have a great deal of stress and
pressure can ultimately breakdown causing indecisiveness on the well being of them.
Individuals who have a hard time with coping skills should utilize and seek professional
intervention in regard to making good sound judgment when coping skills are needed.

2. 6. I believe that the number one thing someone can do to foster a caring attitude and respect
for a mentally ill client. Is to never judge but rather treat each client as being human with
respect, and dignity. You cannot tell what a person went through in their own life, nor is
each client the same.
7. I feel that that by utilizing my introspect and knowledge gained thus far through
Psychiatric nursing that family will be able to benefit using proper illness directed
techniques and coping skills. Clients whether it be someone related or someone in the
clinical setting, will be able to come to me and discuss problem stressors and I will be
able to listen and give proper support.
