Oliver Twist Essay

Oliver Twist
How does Charles Dickens represent the crimes and criminals in the novel Oliver Twist ?
Introduction
In the novel Oliver Twist, Dickens was trying to show that the Victorian viewpoint of
crime was wrong. His novel shows that many criminals were forced to be
one(criminal) rather than being born as one. Dickens includes the condition of the
workhouses which were very basic and the work was hard and unforgiving, he
described this to set the scene of how young children coped when they were alone in the
world. He presents some criminals as innocent victims that have been pulled into a life of
crime through desperation and despair such as Oliver and Nancy, however ... Show more

He is trying to show that although most criminals shouldn t fit into the stereotype some
do and people should be wary of them. Bill Sikes is portrayed as the real villain in
Oliver Twist, he is a thuggish criminal who is violent and often takes advantage of
others, and he chooses his life of crime and enjoys it. Like Fagin, Sikes is shows as an
animal or something that is evil and corrupted. Sikes is often described with a heaving
chest and savage resolution . This shows characteristics of an animal with a savage
nature, the language indicates that Dickens is trying to show the fact that Bill is not
only a criminal he is a mean criminal who has no compassion or thoughts for anyone. In
comparison he thinks about himself a lot, and concentrates on not getting caught rather
than what he is actually doing. When Sikes is murdering Nancy, Dickens uses
vocabulary such as dragged, hurled, and struggled; these words imply anger and
brutality. Sikes uses his violence to take control of people and this amplifies the
Victorian view of a criminal. In Sikes character Dickens is trying to suggest that there
are some vicious and dangerous criminal in London that people should be wary of.
Sikes is a leader of the criminal underworld and is helping to trap innocent and naГЇve

De Tomaso Pantera The Value Priced Supercar From Ford
De Tomaso Pantera the Value Priced Supercar from Ford
Review the Exceptional Value of a 1970s De Tomaso Pantera
Do you know the Italian word for panther? That s right, it s Pantera. And this is a great
place to start. The De Tomaso Pantera that launched in 1971 provided an Americanized
version of an Italian styled supercar.
You didn t have to go to Maranello Italy to get one, because Ford made the car
available at your local Lincoln Mercury dealer. With a sticker price of around $10,000 in
1971, it s curious that the automobile wasn t a complete success.
Here we ll talk about one of the most misunderstood sports cars from the early 1970s.

Therefore, they would sell the Pantera under the sign of the cat. Just in case you don t
remember, the Lincoln Mercury dealer network used a cougar as a mascot in the 70s.
This was a perfect fit with the Italian panther moniker.
Pantera Problems and Solutions
Elvis Presley owned a 1974 bright Yellow Pantera. It s said, [he opened fire on the
automobile] when it refused to start at his Memphis, Tennessee, home. The reasons
behind the multiple issues surrounding the first full production Panteras are attributed to
a rush to production.
The sports car went from an idea on paper to cars rolling off the assembly line in less
than a year. Airflow was a big shortcoming in these sports cars. The engine overheated
easily due to an undersized radiator with poor airflow across its core.
Airflow was also an issue for the interior cabin. Drivers and passengers complained about
oppressive temperatures in the tight interior cabin. This issue was amplified when the
engine began to overheat. Owner s also complained about driver comfort.
The intrusion of the left front wheel well into the foot area made the car difficult to
drive. This is especially true if you have large feet. Jay Leno owns a 1971 Pantera. He s
on record of saying he has to take his shoes off to drive the car.
All Panteras came with Ford s ZF manual transmission. It utilized an Italian style gated
shifter that looked better than it operated. Although the ZF five speed is considered
durable and reliable,
An Underground Illegal Business
Running
I have been through alot of bad things in my life but nothing is the same as waking up
at 8 in the morning to the foul taste of smoke in your mouth. It was like the smell of
cigarette smoke except as a taste. My eyes started to water but right as I dried my eyes
off I saw them taking her.
My mother was the women I saw them taking her and I knew who they were too. Not
literally the men under the mask but the people they were working for. They were
working for an underground illegal business. They were called the A.W.E.G.
(Advanced Warfare Elimination Group) I knew them as the people I was running
from. Very few even knew about their existence. Now I had to get out of the house. As
I got out of the front I saw a van drive away, I knew they had my mother in there. I
turned around and the house exploded. I felt so many things at once if you ve ever
seen a rag doll get thrown around I looked more than likely exactly like that. Once I hit
the ground all the pain I didn t feel kicked in. The force of the explosion threw me into
the ground at a high speed. Once I hit the ground it felt like jumping out of a 5 story
building and splating on concrete. I looked at my arms and they had some first degree
burns It felt like a sunburn on steroids. I also couldn t feel my leg until I looked at it. A
piece of rebar went all the way through my thigh. There was nothing I had ever felt to
describe it. Once I pulled it out I started walking to an old friend s house. After limping

Electoral process for parliament
First past the post is used to elect MPs to the House of Commons and for local elections
in England and Wales. the UK or local authority is divided into numerous votingareas i.e.
constituencies . At a general or local election, voters put a cross (X) next to the candidate
they like.
Ballot papers are then counted and the candidate that has received the most votes is

STV is also used for electing the Northern Ireland Assembly, local elections in Scotland
and Northern Ireland and European Parliament elections in Northern Ireland.
Multi member constituencies are required for STV which means constituencies are
normally larger but elect several representatives rather than just one.
Under STV, voters rank candidates in order by marking who they prefer 1, 2, 3 and so on
next to the names of candidates on a ballot paper. A voter can rank as many or as few
candidates as they like or just vote for one candidate.
Each candidate needs a minimum number of votes to be elected. This number is
calculated according to the number of seats and votes cast and is called a quota. The
first preference votes for each candidate are added up and any candidate who has
achieved this quota is elected.
If a candidate has more votes than are needed to fill the quota, that candidate s surplus
votes are transferred to the remaining candidates. Votes that would have gone to the
winner instead go to the second listed on those ballot papers.
If candidates do not meet the required level , the candidate with the lowest rating votes
is eliminated and the second preference votes are carried to other candidates. These
processes are repeated until all the seats are
Veronica Roth
The style that Veronica used in Divergent is highly effective in the sense of tying you
together with the book. She does so in her method of incorporating actual landmarks
in her story and by having extreme detail in her description. By using actual locations
in Chicago as the location base for the story you are able to get a better view and a
more personal level. Due to the fact that Chicago is the location of the story, Veronica
was better able to put the factions in actual buildings and streets to give the reader a
good sense of imagery. Veronica incorporates the Sears Building, post end of the world,
as the the centerpiece of the city;... where children that are of the appropriate age choose
what faction they will join and delegate themselves... Show more content on

Just as in with the factions, you are only able to focus on what benefits with your
future and disregard others. This is a topic that Mrs. Ross was really able to
piggyback and tie in together with her writing due to the tragic reality of it. Along with
the mentality of focusing on your only growth, they were stressed just as much to leave
the factionless alone. The factionless are the people who aren t able to find or lose their
place in life, comparable to today s modern homeless person. Though most families don t
teach their children to disregard homeless at all costs, they still hold the same social
position and opinion from the
Bowling for Columbine Thesis Statements Essay

Bowling for Columbine Thesis Statements
1) The high casualties caused by guns are a result of how easy it is to obtain one. If
policies were made stricter, casualties would go down.
I do not agree with this because it would only affect the people who go to obtain their
guns legally. If you really wanted one all you would have to do is steal it, so the
policies would then have no effect on you.
2) Minorities and blacks are made to be scarier than they are because they are always the
ones portrayed on TV causing the crimes.
I agree with this statement because when I listen to the news 90% of the time when I
heard crimes talked about they were committed by blacks or Mexicans. Only rarely do I
hear of a crime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
6) Charlton Heston does have some contribution to gun violence because even after the
tragedies of Columbine and Buell he held pro gun rallies in those towns, after he was
asked to cancel.
I agree with this because it shows that even though he sees how guns have killed people,
he is still pushing for people to purchase them and supporting them fully.
7) Influence for violence is always put on the media and figure heads such as Marilyn
Manson but never on the president.
I agree with that because if you pay attention to society that s how it is. On the day
Columbine occurred the US also dropped the record number of bombs on Kosovo in the
war, but when people go to pinpoint the blame to say why Eric and Dylan shot up
Columbine nobody ever blamed it on the president.
8) Parents don t realize that it s harder for kids in school today than it was when they
attended school back in the day.
I agree with this because there is a lot more bullying in today s day in age than there
was way back when. Also kids take it more personally which messes with their self
esteem quite a bit.
9) The US is so gun happy and has as many murders as it does because the media is
continuously pumping fear into us even if it s not true so that they have good stories to
tell.
I agree with this because it has happened many times before. For example the Y2K bug
which was supposed to cause mass chaos with our computer systems never happened and

The Simpsons is America s Household Essay
The Simpsons is America s Household Television shows such as The Simpson s portray
the deterioration of families in our society. From the outside they appear to be the
typical nuclear family consisting of a mother, father, and three children that live in
Springfield, which is basically Anytown, U.S.A., but as most families today The
Simpson s have their own problems. Marge and Homer are the quintessential American
couple. Homer is a blue collared worker, who spends more time eating doughnuts than
paying attention to being in charge of safety at the local nuclear power plant, and has
been married to Marge since they graduated high school. He is notorious for spending his

This coupon clipping mom ignores the faults in her rebellious son and drunken
husband. She may sound like her only weakness is being naive, but she has also made
her mistakes in the marriage. In one episode Marge almost had an affair with her
bowling instructor and deserted her family every night to go see him. Since, this is a
lighthearted show she didn t go through with the adulterous deed, but it shows us that
even Marge is fallible. (http://www.snpp.com) Marge and Homer may be unorthodox
parents, but their children do not seem to be much different. Bart is the oldest of the
Simpson children; at ten years old this boy has gotten in himself into more predicaments
and mischief than most children even dream of. He has done everything from cutting off
the head of the town s beloved Jebediah Springfield statue to getting the United States in
diplomatic discord with Australia. His rebellion is considered harmless boys will be
boys behavior, and never treated as the potentially dangerous conduct he demonstrates.
Whether his actions are out of a need for attention from his neurotic mother or to rebel
against the angst he has toward his inebriated father, the community around him is the
one that suffers from his delinquency. Though Bart may be the product of his
environment, Lisa, his seven year old sister, seems to have come out of this situation
with a remarkable amount of morale and intellect. She excels in school and playing the

Era 4 Western Religions
Era 4 Eastern and Western Religion Comparisons
All Religions are all the branches of the same exact tree. (Albert Einstein) Even
arguably the smartest or one of the smartest people to ever live says that all religions
are very similar in many ways. Era four was the beginning to four of these religions that
Einstein was talking about, and they took part in Eurasia at the time. Two of the religions
that were on they west side of Eurasia were named Christianity and Judaism. The other
two religions on the east side of Eurasia were named Buddhism, and Hinduism. Even

The Western religions, Christianity and Judaism even had the same moral codes and
that is the Ten Commandments (Thrall). These Commandments also known as the
Decalogue include: You Shall have One God and no one else; You shall have no idols;
You shall not use God s Name in vain; You shall keep the Sabbath day holy; You shall
honor your father and mother; You shall not kill; You shall not commit adultery; You
shall not steal; You shall not lie against your neighbor; You shall not covet anything of
your neighbors. In these religions you will be permitted into heaven if you follow all the
rules (Wikipedia). There is a very similar list of moral codes in the Eastern religions
called the eightfold path. The laws of this path involve: You must have the right view,
You must have the right resolve, You must have the right speech, You must have the right
conduct, You must have the right livelihood, You must have the right effort, You must
have the right mindfulness, You must have the right samadhi or you must know how to
meditate right. The religions that follow these morals are Buddhism, and Hinduism

enlightenment called Nirvana. Hinduism Follows these rules to have a better life in the
next life because they believe in rebirth. All these religions across Eurasia may have

The Assassination Of Dr. F. Kennedy Essay
On November 22, 1963, the world was stunned as they watched the president s brain be
spilt in the back seat of a limousine. President John F. Kennedy was riding in a
motorcade parade along Elm Street of downtown Dallas, Texas, when gunshots were
heard. Instantly, bystanders were running for their lives as a gunman, or gunmen, was on
the prowl. Lee Harvey Oswald, ex marine, the perceived assassin, was accused just
seconds later and captured merely an hour and a half after the search began. Oswald
was to stay in Dallas for the days prior to his transfer to the county jail. Whilst in the
basement of the Dallas Police Station before his transfer, just two days later, Jack
Ruby was able to waltz past countless guards, through locked doors, and place a gun on
the stomach of Oswald in an attempt to end his life. Soon after, the prime suspect of
the biggest assassination in history was pronounced dead. So, this leads to the 50+
years long question; Did Lee Harvey Oswald actually assassinate the president? Or was
he a simple fall man? . In Richard Belzer s New York Times Best Selling Book Hit List,
he utilizes a source from Richard Charnin, a control engineer/programmer for Grumman
Aerospace Corporation, to edge that.... In the 14 years that followed the JFK
assassination, there were a minimum of 70 unnatural deaths out of approximately 1,400
witnesses. The probability [of deaths]
Holococcus Pyogenes Research Paper
Streptococcus Pyogenes is a gram positive facultative anaerobic bacterium. It is also
known as a beta hemolytic group A streptococcus or Lancefield Group A
streptococcus. Streptococci are round, spherical bacteria that grow in pairs or chains.
Most microbiologists will say under the microscope they look like a string of pearls. S.
Pyogenes is the most commonly associated with the strep throat. It is responsible for
several other diseases as well as some post streptococcal infections. The invention and
advances made with antibiotics are greatly decreased the effects of Streptococcus
Pyogenes. Strep Throat is an infection of the tonsils and pharynx. Its symptoms include:
sore throat, high fever, chills, headache, swollen lymph nodes and trouble swallowing.
This disease usually effects school aged children. It is very contagious, and is spread
through close contact with those individuals coughing and sneezing. Once strep is
identified as the pathogen, with a rapid strep test, the doctor will prescribe a drug in the
penicillin family as treatment. Penicillin attacks the cell wall of the bacteriaas it is trying

How to Prepare a Thanksgiving Dinner Essay
How to Prepare a Thanksgiving Dinner
Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate our joys with friends and family. Unfortunately, if
you are the person designated to cooking the holiday dinner, the joys can turn into
complete and total fear. I ll never forget the first time I made Thanksgiving dinner for
twenty family members and friends. I waited until the last minute to start and the dinner
ended in a complete disaster. In the years following that failure, I have learned that
preparing a Thanksgiving dinner is easy...if you plan ahead.
Eventually the day arrives when you are selected to prepare the Thanksgiving dinner.
Don t panic. With a few hours of planning, your dinner can be a complete success. The

I believe that the menu is where your success will be ensured. Take your time and
consider all your guests. Be sure to be aware if someone is allergic to a specific meat or
spice. Also, you probably know what your family s traditions are, so plan accordingly. If
your family s tradition includes turkey and ham, try to keep to tradition as tradition
makes everything go smoother. You can also add side dishes to enhance the meal and try
to start new traditions.
Most Thanksgiving holiday meals include the traditional turkey, ham and prime rib. If
you are having a large dinner party, I would suggest making all three. Preparing three
different main dishes can be difficult, but as I mentioned above, planning is everything.
Remember, if you have a small oven, you can always cook the ham a day in advance,
roast the turkey on Thanksgiving Day and save the prime rib for the barbeque grill while
the turkey is cooking.
The next step in meal planning is planning the side dishes. Mashed Potatoes and Gravy,
Stuffing, Yams, Green Bean Casserole, Chili Casserole, Ambrosia, Dinner Rolls,
Cranberry Sauce, Deviled Eggs and an olive tray are our traditional dishes. Many of these
dishes can be prepared in advance so you have time to enjoy your guests.
The final planning stage of the dinner will be dessert. Thanksgiving Day just isn t the
same without the pies and desserts. My daughters are usually the ones in charge of
dessert. Not only does relying
Summary Of Golding In Lord Of The Flies
During this portion of the chapter, Jack, tired from running, stops walking through the
forest to catch his breath. The character continued on. His hair had grown longer and
was lighter from the sun s rays. His back was sunburn and was starting to peel. Only
wearing his distressed shorts and carrying a sharp stick in his right hand, Jack
crouches to within inches of the ground as the narrator notes, He closed his eyes,
raised his head, and breathed in gently with flared nostrils, assessing the current of
warm air for information. The forest and he were very still (Golding 48). Jack
continues walking forward. The forest is quiet, more overwhelming than the heat. As
the sound from a bird echoes through the trees, Jack crouches for cover and the
narrator notes, And for a minute became less a hunter than a furtive thing, ape like
among the tangle of trees (Golding 49). On his knees, Jack angrily scrutinizes the
ground, looking for a clue. Moving like a shadow under the trees, he stoops down
again and examined the ground. With his spear raised Jack walks deeper into the forest.
Finally, he comes across a pig run. After hearing movement Jack steadily rises to his
feet. Moving his right arm back, he threw the spear with all his might. The sound of
hoofs stammering comes from the pig run, which meant for Jack, meat. Running from
under the bushes, Jack picks up his spear ready to kill, but the narrator notes that the
pattering of pigs trotters died away in the distance (Golding
Analysis Of The Wounded Warrior Memoir
From January 8 to January 10, 2014, the first Wounded Warrior Pacific Invitational was
held in Honolulu, Hawaii. Hosted at the Pearl Harbor Hickam bases, this event included a
total of 150 athletes. The Wounded Warrior Pacific Invitational was the largest joint
service competition outside of the annual Warrior Games. At the event, servicemembers
from the Special Operations Command, Army, Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force and
Marines took part in the various competitions.
The goal of these events is to highlight the wounded warrior initiative and showcase the
potential that wounded warriors have to take part in everyday life like athletic events. To
support this goal, sailors throughout Hawaii volunteered their time and energy to help
wounded warriors get to each event. These sponsors created a lasting impact by providing
support and cheering on the competitors.

At the Wounded Warrior Pacific Invitational, specialists helps wounded warriors work

The Need to Measure Transit System Performance
The necessity to measure transit system performance along with its different dimensions
has led to the development of a large number of quantitative performance indicators.
Nevertheless, depending upon the specific indicator assessed, one can reach to different
conclusions regarding performance. Furthermore, though performance and scale
economies are closely related issues, they have been generally examined separately in
the transit literature. There have been significant amounts of research undertaken in
order to examine the transit system performance, and in turn of assessing the
performance based on such methods but the two characteristics underline the work.
First, due to heterogeneity in getting different relationships between efficiency and
effectiveness, system performance, existence of scale of economies and various such
issues, the conclusion which have come out of different studies is not same. In other
words there are conflicting conclusions. Even researchers are not using the data which
is provided by NTD (National Transit Data base) and as a result the comparability of
findings across researches is questionable. A second problem arises because researches
have been using cross section time series data from largely heterogeneous systems and
have introduced a size related bias in their results (Berechman, 1993). Tomazinis (1977)
specified a set of indicators in order to measure the public transit systems s performance.
His measurement was built on three bases;
Why Did Ashoka Build An Imperial Empire
India could not maintain an imperial government and instead went with regional
kingdoms. Together Kautalya ad Chandragupta built a bureaucratic administration.
Chandragupta later left his thrown to become a monk. His son then took over the thrown
but the high point of the empire was throughout the reign of his grandson Ashoka.
Ashoka established a capital and ruled through a tightly organized bureaucracy. He was
unique however in his communication of policies. They were written in natural stone all
around the empire. Asoka s Empire depended on large corps of officials to administer
policies and a very strong army. The Guptas did something that not many people did, their

You will find there are a lot of similarities between all the empires/kingdoms. In Persia
they invested a lot of resources into the construction of roads and highways. They did this
to enable communications and military mobility. As trading grew different regions began
to specialize what they traded. Certain products were expected of each area. In China the
first emperor built roads to aid communication and the movement of armies. Han Wudis
actions while in the throne rapidly consumed the empires surplus wealth. India s Magadha
conquered neighboring states and gained control of overseas trade between India and
Burma. By 260 B.C.E Mauryan had control of former Kalinga trade routes. In Greece
Spartans used iron bars for money. Their colonies provided merchants with not only
fertile land but access to copper, zinc, tin and iron ores of Italy. Caravan trade transported
luxury goods because they couldn t carry heavier goods. Finally in Rome, they founded a
large regional state in Italy that gave them access to industry. Commercial wealth enabled
rulers to maintain powerful states and a strong military. They annexed Carthaginian
possessions in Africa and Iberia and used them to fund imperial expansion. Julius Cesar
spent tons of money on public spectacles to help him gets posts in the republican
government. Construction provided employment which caused population to grow

The Duchess Of Malfi By John Webster
Written by John Webster, The Duchess of Malfi is an exquisite play filled with plot
twists, tragic moments, and stupendous actors who have studied under some of the
greats. One actress in particular, playing the Duchess of Malfi is Ms. Julie Granata
Hunicutt , studied the works of Ms. Uta Hagen. She successfully demonstrated some of
these magnificent techniques in the show tonight; I very much urge others to go and see
the well executed work for themselves.
For the purpose of this analysis essay, I ve decided to focus on the acting techniques of
the Duchess (played by Julie Granata Hunicutt). Her character has motivation, drive,
and quite a tricky situation on her hands. She s gained power from her late husband,
and now isn t suppose to get remarried since she s promised her brothers that she won t
do it without their permission. The Duchess however falls head over heels for Antonio,
her steward, and they get married in secret. Unfortunately, Bosola (a guy who s been
spying on the Duchess) finds out that the Duchess is with someone, and eventually all is
revealed when she gets pregnant and has three kids.
The Duchess has now lost all of her political power, and when her brother, Ferdinand,
tries to talk some sense into her, but leaves angrily when he finds out that she s actually
legally married to their old steward, then Bosla finds out she s legally married too!
Antonio, the Duchess, and their kids then run throughout Italy to escape her brothers,
whom are now chasing
A Report On The Mobile Clinic
The mobile unit itself must be equipped with one or more dental chair and an x ray
machine and a self contained Piezo scaler. There are two options. The first is a fully
functioning readymade dental clinic. These units can cost up to $300,000. They are
completely self contained and ready to begin service once delivered. The alternative
are portable clinics that pack up into a van, are unloaded at the secondary site and then
broken down with this use. (Mobile Dental Clinics, 2005) One is shown in figure 1.
Even though the dental clinic is more tedious, it is an affordable option, it allows for
the more patients to be seen with more chairs and allows customers to use building

The Evil of Armenian Genocide Essay
In order for us to find the foundation of our human nature, we must look beyond into our
early years where human nature is dug deep into the roots of our history and
involvements. About 97 years ago the horrific Genocide of the Armenians took place.
Turkey has shown a classic example of the evil that can result by human beings. Millions
of Armenians were slaughtered and murdered in front of their family members. The
destruction that constantly plays out throughout the world is cuased by human beings.
Hsun Tzu would have also agreed that the young Turks were in face by nature extremely
evil. April 24th is the day of grief for many Armenians. Almost every Armenian
reminisces on their loved ones that they have lost during this... Show more content on

They had no clue where their families were or even if they were alive. Children were
separated from their parents during the march to the concentration camps in the desert.
The authorities loaded the Armenians like animals on boats and sent them away. The
massacre of the Armenian race went on for two long years. 1.5 million Armenians
were brutalized and starved to death. Hsun Tzu is a Chinese philosopher whom
believes human beings are by nature integrally evil, and the only way they will be able
to be good is by their conscious activity. Humans learn from others and naturally follow
without knowing if it is good or bad. After realizing how imperfect the nature of man is
we understand as to why a man must become a student before he grows from his evil
nature. It is true horror that mankind can conflict on society. Society has many rules and
we humans always tend to follow them. The Turks followed their leaders which was the
Young Turk Government in which led them to believe the Armenians were trying to take
all of their land. This proves that Hsun Tzu is right about humans and society. Hsun Tzu
said, the progress of society would decay into barbarism, selfishness and violence. This
quote connects with the history of the Armenian Genocide and how evil the Turks were to
the Armenians. Their leader told them to have the Armenians starve to death and they
did. They thought what they were doing was totally right and for the best of their
country. Hsun

  • 2. Oliver Twist Essay English Coursework Oliver Twist How does Charles Dickens represent the crimes and criminals in the novel Oliver Twist ? Introduction In the novel Oliver Twist, Dickens was trying to show that the Victorian viewpoint of crime was wrong. His novel shows that many criminals were forced to be one(criminal) rather than being born as one. Dickens includes the condition of the workhouses which were very basic and the work was hard and unforgiving, he described this to set the scene of how young children coped when they were alone in the world. He presents some criminals as innocent victims that have been pulled into a life of crime through desperation and despair such as Oliver and Nancy, however ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is trying to show that although most criminals shouldn t fit into the stereotype some do and people should be wary of them. Bill Sikes is portrayed as the real villain in Oliver Twist, he is a thuggish criminal who is violent and often takes advantage of others, and he chooses his life of crime and enjoys it. Like Fagin, Sikes is shows as an animal or something that is evil and corrupted. Sikes is often described with a heaving chest and savage resolution . This shows characteristics of an animal with a savage nature, the language indicates that Dickens is trying to show the fact that Bill is not only a criminal he is a mean criminal who has no compassion or thoughts for anyone. In comparison he thinks about himself a lot, and concentrates on not getting caught rather than what he is actually doing. When Sikes is murdering Nancy, Dickens uses vocabulary such as dragged, hurled, and struggled; these words imply anger and brutality. Sikes uses his violence to take control of people and this amplifies the Victorian view of a criminal. In Sikes character Dickens is trying to suggest that there are some vicious and dangerous criminal in London that people should be wary of. Sikes is a leader of the criminal underworld and is helping to trap innocent and naГЇve young

De Tomaso Pantera The Value Priced Supercar From Ford De Tomaso Pantera the Value Priced Supercar from Ford Review the Exceptional Value of a 1970s De Tomaso Pantera Do you know the Italian word for panther? That s right, it s Pantera. And this is a great place to start. The De Tomaso Pantera that launched in 1971 provided an Americanized version of an Italian styled supercar. You didn t have to go to Maranello Italy to get one, because Ford made the car available at your local Lincoln Mercury dealer. With a sticker price of around $10,000 in 1971, it s curious that the automobile wasn t a complete success. Here we ll talk about one of the most misunderstood sports cars from the early 1970s. Learn about the trials and tribulations of owning one. Uncover what these cars are worth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, they would sell the Pantera under the sign of the cat. Just in case you don t remember, the Lincoln Mercury dealer network used a cougar as a mascot in the 70s. This was a perfect fit with the Italian panther moniker. Pantera Problems and Solutions Elvis Presley owned a 1974 bright Yellow Pantera. It s said, [he opened fire on the automobile] when it refused to start at his Memphis, Tennessee, home. The reasons behind the multiple issues surrounding the first full production Panteras are attributed to a rush to production. The sports car went from an idea on paper to cars rolling off the assembly line in less than a year. Airflow was a big shortcoming in these sports cars. The engine overheated easily due to an undersized radiator with poor airflow across its core. Airflow was also an issue for the interior cabin. Drivers and passengers complained about oppressive temperatures in the tight interior cabin. This issue was amplified when the engine began to overheat. Owner s also complained about driver comfort. The intrusion of the left front wheel well into the foot area made the car difficult to drive. This is especially true if you have large feet. Jay Leno owns a 1971 Pantera. He s on record of saying he has to take his shoes off to drive the car. All Panteras came with Ford s ZF manual transmission. It utilized an Italian style gated shifter that looked better than it operated. Although the ZF five speed is considered durable and reliable,
  • 4. An Underground Illegal Business Running I have been through alot of bad things in my life but nothing is the same as waking up at 8 in the morning to the foul taste of smoke in your mouth. It was like the smell of cigarette smoke except as a taste. My eyes started to water but right as I dried my eyes off I saw them taking her. My mother was the women I saw them taking her and I knew who they were too. Not literally the men under the mask but the people they were working for. They were working for an underground illegal business. They were called the A.W.E.G. (Advanced Warfare Elimination Group) I knew them as the people I was running from. Very few even knew about their existence. Now I had to get out of the house. As I got out of the front I saw a van drive away, I knew they had my mother in there. I turned around and the house exploded. I felt so many things at once if you ve ever seen a rag doll get thrown around I looked more than likely exactly like that. Once I hit the ground all the pain I didn t feel kicked in. The force of the explosion threw me into the ground at a high speed. Once I hit the ground it felt like jumping out of a 5 story building and splating on concrete. I looked at my arms and they had some first degree burns It felt like a sunburn on steroids. I also couldn t feel my leg until I looked at it. A piece of rebar went all the way through my thigh. There was nothing I had ever felt to describe it. Once I pulled it out I started walking to an old friend s house. After limping around

At a general or local election, voters put a cross (X) next to the candidate they like. Ballot papers are then counted and the candidate that has received the most votes is elected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... STV is also used for electing the Northern Ireland Assembly, local elections in Scotland and Northern Ireland and European Parliament elections in Northern Ireland. Multi member constituencies are required for STV which means constituencies are normally larger but elect several representatives rather than just one. Under STV, voters rank candidates in order by marking who they prefer 1, 2, 3 and so on next to the names of candidates on a ballot paper. A voter can rank as many or as few candidates as they like or just vote for one candidate. Each candidate needs a minimum number of votes to be elected. This number is calculated according to the number of seats and votes cast and is called a quota. The first preference votes for each candidate are added up and any candidate who has achieved this quota is elected. If a candidate has more votes than are needed to fill the quota, that candidate s surplus votes are transferred to the remaining candidates. Votes that would have gone to the winner instead go to the second listed on those ballot papers. If candidates do not meet the required level , the candidate with the lowest rating votes is eliminated and the second preference votes are carried to other candidates. These processes are repeated until all the seats are
  • 6. Veronica Roth The style that Veronica used in Divergent is highly effective in the sense of tying you together with the book. She does so in her method of incorporating actual landmarks in her story and by having extreme detail in her description. By using actual locations in Chicago as the location base for the story you are able to get a better view and a more personal level. • 7. Bowling for Columbine Thesis Statements Essay October 17, 2010 Bowling for Columbine Thesis Statements 1) The high casualties caused by guns are a result of how easy it is to obtain one. If policies were made stricter, casualties would go down. I do not agree with this because it would only affect the people who go to obtain their guns legally. If you really wanted one all you would have to do is steal it, so the policies would then have no effect on you. 2) Minorities and blacks are made to be scarier than they are because they are always the ones portrayed on TV causing the crimes. I agree with this statement because when I listen to the news 90% of the time when I heard crimes talked about they were committed by blacks or Mexicans. Only rarely do I hear of a crime ... I agree with this because it shows that even though he sees how guns have killed people, he is still pushing for people to purchase them and supporting them fully. 7) Influence for violence is always put on the media and figure heads such as Marilyn Manson but never on the president. I agree with that because if you pay attention to society that s how it is. On the day Columbine occurred the US also dropped the record number of bombs on Kosovo in the war, but when people go to pinpoint the blame to say why Eric and Dylan shot up Columbine nobody ever blamed it on the president. 8) Parents don t realize that it s harder for kids in school today than it was when they attended school back in the day. I agree with this because there is a lot more bullying in today s day in age than there was way back when. Also kids take it more personally which messes with their self esteem quite a bit. 9) The US is so gun happy and has as many murders as it does because the media is continuously pumping fear into us even if it s not true so that they have good stories to tell. I agree with this because it has happened many times before. For example the Y2K bug which was supposed to cause mass chaos with our computer systems never happened and

Only wearing his distressed shorts and carrying a sharp stick in his right hand, Jack crouches to within inches of the ground as the narrator notes, He closed his eyes, raised his head, and breathed in gently with flared nostrils, assessing the current of warm air for information. The forest and he were very still (Golding 48). Jack continues walking forward. The forest is quiet, more overwhelming than the heat. As the sound from a bird echoes through the trees, Jack crouches for cover and the narrator notes, And for a minute became less a hunter than a furtive thing, ape like among the tangle of trees (Golding 49). On his knees, Jack angrily scrutinizes the ground, looking for a clue. Moving like a shadow under the trees, he stoops down again and examined the ground. The Need to Measure Transit System Performance The necessity to measure transit system performance along with its different dimensions has led to the development of a large number of quantitative performance indicators. Nevertheless, depending upon the specific indicator assessed, one can reach to different conclusions regarding performance. Furthermore, though performance and scale economies are closely related issues, they have been generally examined separately in the transit literature. There have been significant amounts of research undertaken in order to examine the transit system performance, and in turn of assessing the performance based on such methods but the two characteristics underline the work. First, due to heterogeneity in getting different relationships between efficiency and effectiveness, system performance, existence of scale of economies and various such issues, the conclusion which have come out of different studies is not same. In other words there are conflicting conclusions. Even researchers are not using the data which is provided by NTD (National Transit Data base) and as a result the comparability of findings across researches is questionable. A second problem arises because researches have been using cross section time series data from largely heterogeneous systems and have introduced a size related bias in their results (Berechman, 1993). Tomazinis (1977) specified a set of indicators in order to measure the public transit systems s performance. His measurement was built on three bases;
