twists, tragic moments, and stupendous actors who have studied under some of the
greats. One actress in particular, playing the Duchess of Malfi is Ms. Julie Granata
Hunicutt , studied the works of Ms. Uta Hagen. She successfully demonstrated some of
these magnificent techniques in the show tonight; I very much urge others to go and see
the well executed work for themselves.
For the purpose of this analysis essay, I ve decided to focus on the acting techniques of
the Duchess (played by Julie Granata Hunicutt). Her character has motivation, drive,
and quite a tricky situation on her hands. She s gained power from her late husband,
and now isn t suppose to get remarried since she s promised her brothers that she won t
do it without their permission. The Duchess however falls head over heels for Antonio,
her steward, and they get married in secret. Unfortunately, Bosola (a guy who s been
spying on the Duchess) finds out that the Duchess is with someone, and eventually all is
revealed when she gets pregnant and has three kids.
The Duchess has now lost all of her political power, and when her brother, Ferdinand,
tries to talk some sense into her, but leaves angrily when he finds out that she s actually
legally married to their old steward, then Bosla finds out she s legally married too!
Antonio, the Duchess, and their kids then run throughout Italy to escape her brothers,
whom are now chasing
