Manifest Destiny By James K. Polk
Manifest Destiny was the widely held belief that the United States of America
were destined to expand over a vast area through the will of God. The President of
the United States of America, James K. Polk, who had been elected into office in
1844. Polk won the election by showing his support of the re occupation of Oregon
and the re annexation of Texas. In doing so he was able to appeal to both the southern
and northern expansionists. Polk spearheaded the tasks soon after entering office.
Manifest Destiny is what urged The States to expand their territory, forming the
country we have today. Many United Statescitizens had migrated into Texas, which
was under the control of Mexico. Many also migrated from the United States and to
Oregon, which was occupied by both The United States and Britain. In 1824, Mexico
put in place a law that would offer cheap land and a four year exemption from taxes
for all Americans willing to migrate to Texas. Six years later, American immigrants
had outnumbered the Mexican population. The American migrant population had
become more than double of that of the Mexican population in Texas. Tensions had
been raised and led to conflict in Texas. In the Oregon Territory, both Britain and the
United States had claimed sovereignty, or authority, over the Oregon Territory.
Without any actual resolution, both Britain and the United States decided to sign an
1818 treaty that would allow both factions to occupy the territory. By 1820 American

comparison with the North American houses. The building materials used in

Chinese farmhouse is built of sun dried bricks or pounded earth, because wood is
too expensive and scarce to use. On the other hand, many typical Northern
American houses are built of wood. In addition to the variations of building
materials used in constriction, the architectural planning of a traditional Chinese

order to protect robbery and keep privacy. Nowadays, the traditional housing system
seldom appears in Hong Kong because it is too expensive and may cost millions of

Frankenstein As A Villain In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, the lead character Victor Frankenstein created life.
Towards the beginning of this novel the creature would be considered a victim.
Victor resented him for what he was even when Victor was his creator. This led the
creature to run out into the world on his own, and this led to his downfall of being
a villain. The creature was very compassionate to others in the beginning of his
life, but like all stories the villain isn t born evil they develop over time. The
creature murders people in cold blood, knowingly leads a woman to her death, and
threatens Victor of making his life horrible. The creature travels to Geneva in
search of Victor, his creator, upon arriving there he searches for a place to spend
the night. He woke up to a boy walking into his hiding place, the creature wanted a
friend so he grabs the child. Out of the fear the child screams and struggles to get
away. Amidst his screaming he yells out that his father is Frankenstein, the
creature thinking that he meant Victor, he decides to take his revenge. I have
sworn eternal revenge; you shall be my first victim (Shelley 122). The creature
strangles the kid to death. I gazed on my victim, and my heart swelled with
exultation and hellish triumph (Shelly 122). The creature felt joy in killing this boy.

Essay On We Real Cool
Strong Connection in We Real Cool
As well all know, connections are not easy to come by. Connections are made for
resembling one thing to another. In addition to the resemblance, the poem, We Real
Cool , has a strong connection that is shown by the author that help illustrate the
meaning of the poem. In the poem of, We Real Cool , by Gwendolyn Brooks, there is
a satisfyingly strong connection involving the poem, title, and author.
Firstly, to show the satisfyingly strong connection from Gwendolyn Brooks, is the
poem. In the poem, We Real Cool , Gwendolyn brooks uses a part of her background
in the stanza. The poem, we real cool , illustrates a gang of people that like to play
pool at late hours. The poems stanza begins with the word, We , to represent the
group of people. Gwendolyn writes, We lurk late, we strike straight. We sing sin, we
thin gin , in the second and third stanza, pointing out the attributes of these people
back in the 1960 s. Furthermore, the second and third stanza also commemorates their
life and what they did to consider themselves real cool, with the help of vivid words
that were used to show visual imagery in the poem, such as left school, lurk late,
strike straight, sing sin, thin gin, jazz June, and die soon, henceforth illustrating the
connection between the poem and title. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The title, We Real Cool , has a deeper in text meaning than just being 3 simple
words. Throughout the poem, the phrase We Real Cool and it s identity, is
described thoroughly. The name in essence, tells of what was to be considered cool

Blue Orb Recycling And Recycling Reduction
Executive Summary
Blue Orb Recycling is one of Minnesota s leaders in recycling and waste reduction.
The company accepted a diverse arrangement of programs and incentives to
achieve a recycling rate of 37%. While this recycling rate is high, Blue Orb
Recycling has adopted a far more enthusiastic goal of 50%, to meet the goals of the
state of Minnesota. Executives have chosen to focus on programs that will enable
them to achieve their 50% recycling rate.
Blue Orb Recycling was created to address the growing concern of the increase in
waste and the minimal amount of recycling that was taking place. The typical
materials that are derived from the waste that ends up at the Blur Orb plant include
various types of metals, plastic, paper and cardboard. These materials make up a
large component of the recycling industry. There are economic benefits that Blue
Orb takes advantage of in regards to recycling rather than letting all the waste go to
the landfill. There is a steady increase in the amount of buyers that enables recycling
companies to maintain a steady market growth for the business. We have focused
our business towards meeting the demands of the consumer and not solely on the
profits. Although, with the implementation of new programs over the years and the
work towards developing new ones, we have been able to retain customers and gain
new ones which drives our gross margins up. Blue Orb Recycling has drafted a
strategic plan to meet the needs of the business

Ray Bradbury Characteristics
Ray Bradbury was best known for his short stories. He worked very hard when he
was alive and was influenced by events happening around him. Many people were
kind and caring in the times that he wrote his stories but there were also a lot of
people who had many flaws. Mostly because of war or poverty but some had their
own reasonings. In turn, he implemented some of the characteristics of people in
that time, in his characters. In many ways, the main character in A Sound of
Thunder (Eckels) is flawed. He is arrogant, impatient, and believes that if he feels
regret, then anything bad he has done will be forgiven and fixed. He shares those
flaws with William, one of Bradbury s characters in All Summer In a Day. Although,
in some ways, the characteristics... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They always have to interfere with events where they don t like what is happening.
So, they decide that they should try and fix it themselves but they are just making
it worse. They also don t really think about what they are doing, they just do. In All
Summer In a Day, William is extremely rude to Margot and doesn t like the stuff
she does so he does things to try and change those things so he is happy but he
doesn t think about Margot s feelings he just shouts at her saying What re you
looking at? (Bradbury) and Speak when you re spoken to (Bradbury). He doesn t
think, he just does, he is very impulsive and impatient. Similarly, Eckels is
remarkably impatient and impulsive. He is frightened and nervous when he realizes
that killing a dinosaur is extremely dangerous and he he just took a few steps,
blinking, shuffling. Not that way! (Bradbury). He doesn t listen to the other people
shouting, he just walks off the path. He hurts himself by doing this because he
changed the future and he hurt the people around him because he didn t only change
the future he lived in, he changed everything. Although William and Eckels have the
same trait, they use it differently. William uses it to tear a person apart (Margot) and
Eckels uses it to change people s lives (unintentionally but still stupidly) and to
change the future. Both William and Eckels are to blame for the majority of their
problems in their story and one of the biggest reasons why is that they are impatient

Water Scarcity In Africa
Water scarcity occurs when there is the lack of sufficient available water resources
to meet the needs of water within a region. The continent of Africa is a main region
that deals with this scarcity; as the most impoverished continent in the world ( World
Bank Poverty Data 2016 ), almost all countries in Africalack major resources such as
water, causing several organizations and groups to donate their time and
contributions. Water scarcity is categorized by economic and physical levels.
Economic growth can result in physical water scarcity as water is channeled into
economic production. Physical water scarcity occurs when the demand of water
surpasses a region s ability to provide the populations with needed water. On the other
hand, economic water scarcity occurs when government investments in water
resources are so inconsiderably low that they are not able to meet clean water
demands for the population, which results in people drinking and using contaminated
water.
Groups such as non governmental organizations often work in water scarce areas to
help those in need. Non governmental organizations are not for profit groups that aid
countries worldwide through donated funding. There are over four thousand NGOs
throughout Africa helping to provide clean water sources, fighting for poverty, and
contributing to education (Edelman Haugerud, p. 113) By comparing celebrity and
non celebrity endorsed NGOs, the objective of my research is to gain a better

Essay On Dividend Allocation
Dividend allocation
Another key stream of the proposed carbon tax policy is to promise dividend to all
individual Americans on an equal and quarterly basis. The proposal argues that this
amount is sufficient to compensate increased financial burden on consumers due to
the carbon tax. However, equal distribution of dividend may not be able to
compensate appropriately because individuals are not worse off to the same extent by
the carbon tax. This is because not all individuals earn the same level of income, and
more importantly, the energy consumption has a negative relationship over income
level.
[Figure 3 places here]
As figure 3 shows that households have a different share of expenditure on energy
depending on the income level. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the carbon tax dividend needs to be adjusted based on the relative carbon
tax impact on different level groups to compensate different groups loss accordingly.
In addition, the government also needs to consider a dividend in terms of different
level of consumption of carbon intensive energy. As we have seen in figure 3, the
highest income level group consumes up to 4 times more energy than the lowest
income level group. Also, there is no incentive for high income individuals to reduce
emissions because even high energy consumption is a small fraction compared to
their high income level. Therefore, it is critically important to differentiate carbon
dividend depending upon the income level in the proper compensating perspective. In
addition, there is also an alternative way for the government to take in terms of
lowering the electricity consumption, which is consumed mostly by the high income
group as we discussed above. That is adopting non linear pricing for electricity and
gasoline. When the total energy consumption gets smaller, the total carbon emission
level will decline since energy supply only exists to meet the demand. Thus, this new
equilibrium of saving energy will eventually limit electricity price from soaring up
and protect the low income group from the additional burden.

Appropriate carbon tax rate. As explained above, a carbon tax could play a pivotal
role in the economy and the
What Were The Similarities Between Mesopotamia And
Egypt
In early civilization a lot of advancements were used to help build into our society
today. From the geological aspect down to the basics that make up a civilization like
religion, government, a written language, to even the inventions that made a huge
impact. It all started as early as 3200 B.C. with Mesopotamiaand Egypt over by the
Mediterranean Sea. Although, both Mesopotamia and Egypt fall under the criteria of
being a civilizationwhen compared to each other they were vastly different
civilizations with how their people acted in that era. First, lets start with
Mesopotamia and what its civilization was like. It was in between the Tigris and
Euphrates rivers that established rich soil to be able to grow and harvest food, and

The area Mesopotamia and Egypt built their communities allowed a varied
response. This varied response was because Egypt had stability and protection
with the desert being a boundary line that no very many could survive through let
alone charge an entire army and with Mesopotamia the mini communities there
were in constant battle with each other for water and food for their people. Then
even though with religion they both were polytheistic Egypt took religion a lot
more seriously with the belief of an afterlife as a good thing, yet Mesopotamia
thought going to the afterlife was a punishment and more like our view today on
Hell. Mesopotamia s government was through strict brute force that ended up
leading to their own ruin and the Egyptians ruled through a kind of hierarchy with
the bloodline of the Pharaohs that lead to respect, as long as you didn t mess with
the worship of the Gods. The inventions were different as Mesopotamia had only
basic math and Egypt had algebra which created stepping stones to society s math
today. Egypt even went as far as to make one of the first kind of paper instead of
using clay tablets. Although Mesopotamia invented the wheel long before Egypt
Gender Equality And Women s Rights
Women in the world still face discrimination and gender equality takes action to
achieve women s rights. AAUW provides and gives women the chance to have an
education, while Catalyst reaches out to women to carry out equal pay, equal
participation in the workplace, and remove discrimination. UN Women attains to
human rights for women. Throughout history women have fought for genderequality
in the workplace and in education, and every year organizations like AAUW,
Catalyst, and UN Women have gotten closer to balancing equality. Improving
education for women and girls continues to stay the goal for AAUW. The article Girls
education and gender equality, reports that to improve education, women need life
skills and women role models to look up to (2). Role models play an important part
for young girls because girls need good examples to follow. In addition, well
educated role models will teach girls the importance of learning and why they
need it. Role models will inspire young girls to focus on education and overcome
the obstacles of education. Role models will help young girls accept themselves
because role models teach the importance of accepting their life. Having female
role models shows the importance of women and what they can achieve in the
world. Education provides girls the opportunity to learn life skills for example, life
skills will teach girls how to act correctly, in addition life skills will provide young

The Is An Old Proverb
Where there is a will, there is a way Where there is a will, there is a way is an old
proverb which almost everyone knows, but not everyone understand it very well.
This proverb means that if you are really resolved to do something, no matter how
difficult it might be, never give up, and you will find a way to do it at last. In our
life, many people are under too much pressure, just like a piece of heavy rock on
the shoulder. So we need to calm down and think about our future to find out a way
to release stress. We may wonder if there is no hope for us to become successful.
And we know that sighing is not useful, and the only way is that we must find a goal
or dream in our lives. The reason why people feel confused and futureless is that
they do not have clear aspirations, and they do not know what they live for. Without
goals, they will only stay in the same place and never go ahead. Without ambitions,
they will become lazy and resign themselves to fate. If we do not want
opportunities to slip away, we need to go out of the whirlpool of confusion by
setting up ideals and ambitions. A great person not only has a clear goal, but also
has a firm resolution and an inflexible spirit. Ninety percent of the failures that occur
are due to the fact that there is no strong will. On many occasions, people probably
say much more than the truth about difficulties, making the objective impossible to
reach. In fact, if a person has the will to succeed, then the size of

One of the most important factors that commercial bank must possess to be
successful in Dar es Salaam is branch network. Branches are the distribution channels
for the bank services and a well spread network of branches provide the bank with
ability to reach the mass population of the Dar es Salaam city. As important as the
number of branches is the location of these branches. Those banks that have managed

efforts by banks to Market themselves as well as trying to maintain good relations

one of the key success factors for a bank, but all these will be unfruitful if there is
no proper ICT platform to support them. To be able to take full advantage of the
opportunities in the market and combat threats a bank must have an up to date

Newspapers of the changes and their implication to the services offered. This is an

Systematic Synthetic Phonics Interventions
This research aims to explore the effect of Read Write Inc (RWI) as a systematic
synthetic phonics intervention on the development of children s reading in Key
Stage 1 (Miskin Website). The argument about whether the phonics or the whole
word approach to teaching children to read and spell has been around since the
1950s. It is no closer to being resolved nearly 70 years later. This advocates that
readingis a vital and crucial part of a child s education(Anderson, 2015). The current
government is in favour of using systematic synthetic phonics interventions to
develop reading in schools; where the children learn the sounds of the letter rather
than the whole words. Education Secretary Michael Grove is behind this
intervention and has provided funding for training and has introduced a screening
reading test for all six year olds to check their reading skills (Garner, 2011). Nick
Gibb cited by Garner (2011) agrees expressing that systematic synthetic phonics
should be incorporated into more schools, suggesting that it has major and long
lasting effects on children s reading and spelling. The government in 2005 has

2. The critics of Sapri Whorf Hypothesis had insisted the bond between culture and
language, doubts the relevance of person s view of the world. The example of
Shona which tribe has only three category of colors does not mean that Shona s
eye is psychologically different; and can t see rainbow as English speakers do. It s
just hard to speak the definition of the color. Moreover, Whorf probably didn t
consider dead metaphors for Hopi language.
For example, God be with you, doesn t mean that person will imagine God being with
him.
I do admit that Sapir Whorf Hypothesis s example has some risk of uncertainties as
it is hard to totally understand culture of Shona or Hopies for Whorf of other
people. However, I do not agree that it Sapir Whorf Hypothesis is wrong twofold:
one is the hypothesis is more related to mental state of people rather than
physiological state; and the other is dead metaphor still affects in other way. First,
even though it is true that people physiologically that human eyes are same, it doesn t
mean they recognize at the same way as others.

more than ignorance does. While many of us have heard people saying ignorance is a
bliss , however, it is just as real as boys are stronger than girls or the client is always
right . Ignorance can often involve when we lack adequate exposure to multiple
viewpoints, and when we allow another to think on our behalf, as can be observed in
Orwell s 1984 , as well as Plato s Allegory of the
Cave .
To begin with, the notion of ignorance has existed for a long time. As defined in
Cambridge Dictionary, ignorance is: lack of knowledge, understanding, or

because of the light of the fire. He snatches how the shadows are caused. This

The Influence Of Physical Therapy
Although I have been interested in a medical profession and helping people for as
long as I can remember, it wasn t until recently that my life was significantly
impacted by physical therapy. Being an athlete for the majority of my life, I
experienced my fair share of injuries and therefore I know the feeling of being
sidelined from an injury and how it seems to affect nearly every aspect of your
life. It s not just your body that is injured, it s also your mind and spirit. One of my
more serious injuries was a torn meniscus during my freshman year of college while I
was pursuing my dream of playing collegiate softball. This included post surgery
rehab, which required a significantly longer amount of time working with physical
therapists than

The battle for the state of Indiana is usually quite set. Indiana has long been
considered to be a staunch Republican supporting state, especially in Presidential
races. The Hoosier state has only supported a Democratic candidate for president five
times since 1900. These include Woodrow Wilson, Franklin D. Roosevelt in two
elections, Lyndon Johnson, and, by a mere 1% margin, Barak Obama. But, it is also
interesting to note that eleven Democrats have been elected Indianas governor during
that same time span. On the other hand, 14 Republican presidential candidates have
defeated a Democratic candidate by double digit margins, including six times when a
Republican won by more than 20%. Historically, Republicans have been strongest in

When trying to win any election in Indiana, candidates need to focus on the issues
facing the everyday Hoosier. Specifically, the economy and jobs in Indiana are
paramount. Understandably, candidates try to focus on Indiana s largest economic
markets to get as much support as possible. For example, Northwestern Indiana is the
largest steel producing area in the U.S. Besides steel, pharmaceuticals and medical
devices reign king in central Indiana (Bureau of Labor Statistics, http://stats.bls.gov
/eag/eag.in.htm). This is largely attributed to the international headquarters and
research facilities of pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly, the state s largest corporation,
residing in Indianapolis. Similarly, the world headquarters of Mead Johnson
Nutritionals is located in Evansville, Indiana. Logically so, Indiana ranks fifth among
all U.S. states in total sales and shipments of pharmaceutical products and second
highest in the number of bio pharmaceutical related jobs (Terre Haute Economic

An explanation of the physiology of two named body systems in relation to energy
metabolism in the body. (P4)
In this assignment I will be explaining the physiology of two named body systems in
relation to energy metabolism in the body, the Respiration system and the Digestive
system. I will start off by giving a definition of energy metabolism in the body.
Metabolism in the body is a collection of chemical reactions that takes place in the
body s cells. Metabolism converts the nutrients in the food that we eat in to essential
energy which is needed to power all that we do, from something as little as thinking
to growing physically or carrying out a physical activity. In our body s, there are a
specific protein which controls the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Discuss the role of energy in the body (M1)
In our bodies we need energy so that we could do things that are possible such as
move our muscles, talk and all the other things that we do. Without energy all
humans would be useless not being able to do anything. Energy is needed to
extract the oxygen from the areas in our bodies and diffuse it into our bloodstream.
Supplying enough energy to support the functions of the body in a daily basis is
one of the main reasons for food. This energy comes from the fats, carbohydrates,
and proteins in the food you eat. Of the three, fat is the most concentrated source of
energy. Energy requirements are normally put in terms of calories. The energy
requirement for a person is spilt into two parts: basal metabolic requirements and
energy required for activity. Basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the heat taken from the
body at rest when temperature is normal. An average person requires 2000 2500
Calories per day while the difference for a large man doing heavy work may require
up to 6000 Calories per day. When you choose foods that have more energy, or
Calories than you need, the excess energy is stored as fat in the body which will
results in putting on some weight. If too little food is eaten to meet energy
demands, the body s stored fat serves as an energy source and this will result in
weight loss. Your weight stays about the same if the energy from food matches the
energy requirements of the body. As warm blooded

Examine and compare the ways in which Pat Barker in Regeneration and
Wilfred Owen in his poetry explore the nature of life in the trenches.
Pat Barker and Wilfred Owen are both successful writers in delivering an insight
into trench life from the perspective of a soldier, although in different ways. Owen,
being a soldier himself, has had first hand experience of trench life and describes
the pity of war, in that war is a waste of young, innocent lives, and the bitterness of
the soldiers towards the people who do not have to fight. Whereas
Barker recreates trench life through the nightmares, hallucinations and memories of
the soldiers. Despite the fact that Barker is a modern woman writer she still manages
to write a realistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Owen describes how the waiting for the inevitable keeps the soldiers awake as the
night is silent and this is worse than the noise of activity. All these soldiers have to do
is wait and wonder what are we doing here? But nothing happens. In the sixth stanza
Owen refers to the ghosts drag home almost suggesting that the soldiers are alone, not
even their spirits can survive the emptiness of the trenches. To begin with, the images
in the poem appear to contrast with those in Regeneration as we see Sassoon looking
forward to sleeping in clean whit sheets, although we realise that he feels guilty that
he can enjoy this luxury and his comrades cannot. He says to Graves as he is seeing
him off at the station Dottyville is almost bearable knowing you don t have to be
vomited on, this gives us an insight into the physical well being of some of the
soldiers.
After Graves has gone Sassoon hates everybody, giggling girls, portly middle aged
men, women whose eyes settled on his wound stripe like flies indicating his
bitterness towards anybody that didn t have to fight and especially towards people
who appeared to have done well out of the war. This is the same attitude displayed
towards shirkers and pacifists. In regeneration when Mr. Prior comes to
Craiglockhart and find Billy unable to speak, he is convinced that his speech comes
when it s convenient and goes when it isn t
How Did Perseus Become King
Perseus, son of Zeus, destiny was not giving to him. Born In a chamber locked
away because Acrisius (his grandfather) was told Perseus would kill him. They
were kicked out the tower when Acrisius found out he was born, and put in a chest
to drift away at sea. Heres the summary on how young Perseus became king.
Perseus and his mother landed on the island of Seriphos, where Polydectes ruled.
His brother Dictys was a fisherman. He found the chest and freed them. By then
Perseus had grown up to be a strong young man. This is important because
Polydectes wanted to marry Danae (Perseus mother), but Perseus didn t allow it.
Because of these actions Perseus was banished until he could bring back the head of
Medusa. Therefore Perseus set
Is Iconoclasm Acceptable
Is Iconoclasm acceptable? Today we have encountered numerous situations of
iconoclasm. Iconoclasm means icon breaking, which includes the religious as well as
the political destruction of images or monuments usually, not always, by those of
another group. There are many examples in the past and even recently that prove that
iconoclasmstill exists today. Thus, iconoclasm is the destruction of icons and
sometimes it is believed that it is done because of the difference between religious
beliefs. In fact, the word icon refers to many different things today. For example, we
use this word to refer to the small graphic symbols in our software and powerful
cultural figures. Nevertheless, these different meanings retain a connection to its...

could be a possibility that this man believed that they were not going to punish him

iconoclasts existed and also exist today since there has been plenty of cases about
people who have the urge to destroy meaningful art. Whether or not this was done by
someone with different beliefs, or just a person who was up to no good, it is still

Wrongful Convictions And Its Effect On Society
Introduction Many of us are familiar with historical films such as The Shawshank
Redemption , but the reality is that wrongful convictions have occurred throughout
history and although less frequently, still occur today. A wrongful conviction can
greatly impact an individual s life and may continue to be an issue even after
exoneration. Many people are under the impression that individuals who are
wrongfully convicted and later exonerated have won the battle over the justice
system, however this is rarely the case. Exonerees experience great amounts of
hardship once released back into society. There are flaws in the justice system, which
make it extremely difficult for exonerees to experience true freedom. Wrongful
convictions occur not only in the United States, but also across the entire globe. It is
a serious injustice when an innocent person is forced to experience life as a convicted
felon. Causes of Wrongful Convictions Although numerous cases of wrongful
convictions have been documented in the literature and in the media, criminologists
have yet to devise a methodology for estimating the extent of such errors in the
criminal justice system. (Poveda, 2001) Since DNA testing has been utilized in the
justice system, wrongful convictions have become less frequent and exoneration rates
have increased. There are many factors involved when consider the causes of
wrongful convictions. Eyewitness misidentification is a leading cause for wrongful
convictions. (Innocence

other elements to change the format of how the heading comes out as. The body

Other tags also edit your webpage layout such as the background tag that uses an

system only Mercury is smaller. In comparison to Earth, Mars is about half (53

amount of dry land as Earth. Mars has a diameter of 4, 222 miles (6, 794 km), but
from pole to pole the diameter would be 4,196 mile (6,752 km). Also, of course the
radius of Mars would be half of the diameter. The circumference of Mars around the

Scientist are not cognitive to whether there is active volcanism or not below the
planet s surface. Constant volcanic activity from the three largest volcanoes on

planet s rotation rate also as mentioned prior being an eccentric orbit. It has also
been implicated in Mars plate tectonics and possibly also changes in its climate.
Equally important, Mars shows a dry, dusty, and rocky surface. The Southern half of
the planet is much more rugged, with many more craters and highlands. The Northern
half of Mars has an abundance amount of smooth basins and what appear to be dry

surface characteristics is called the Martian dichotomy. Impact craters account for part

When I was younger, I used to play football. I was also tall compared to other

people who are actually dangerous, and are able to show it instead of thinking
about it and talking about it. For example, the Sniper from The Sniper by Liam O

because they are able to come out alive of situations when they should have or could
have died, many times. In the short story The Sniper by Liam O Flaherty, the main

shooter. 50 yards is quite a ways away, and he was injured with only a revolver left,
a gun that is not meant for long ranges, and it is in the middle of the night, so he
can not see the enemy very well either. The Sniper is still able to hit his target well,
and this is impressive and shows that the sniper is dangerous because of his
abilities. The Sniper is able to come up with a plan that is risky, and then he is also
able to execute the plan as well. The plan would go to waste if he was not able to

able to come up with magnificent plans and is able to execute them to. The Fear is

Acknowledging Domestic Violence In Gay And Gay
Relationship
In the past, intimate partner violence was only defined as abuse in a heterosexual
relationship. Scholars and researchers did not take into account that abuse can happen
in any relationship regardless if the relationship consist of two heterosexuals or
homosexuals. Acknowledging domestic violence in gay and lesbian relationships is a
new concept that has allowed researchers to understand the different dynamics that
may occur in a homosexual relationship in comparison to a heterosexual one. There
has not been a significant amount of research done on domestic violenceoccurring in
same sex relationship due to the generalization that it does not occur, when in
actuality, 1 in 4 homosexual partners will experience domestic violencein their
lifetime (Lehmann). As a result of this generalization, gays and lesbians are less
likely to seek help in domestic violence situations. 62% of 1,024 survivors reported
they knew their perpetrator (Kemp 331). Acknowledging abuse among sexual
minorities is the first step in spreading awareness that the LGBTcommunity
experiences domestic violence just like others. In Gender based violence: the lesbian
and gay experience Evashnee Naidu and Nonhlanhla analyze gender based violence in
same sex relationships. Naidu ad Nonhlanhla examine this type of abuse that occur in
same sex relationships and the nature of them. Physical abuse in LGBT usually

Ugly, Ugly Americans
At the heart of nearly every world conflict, the United States of America is either at
the epicenter, or in some way, majorly involved; this has caused disdain among many
nations of the world and their disdain for the United States and her means has been
demonstrated in various attacks, kidnappings, and other acts of terror. And while
there are plenty of Americans going off into the world making effective,
meaningful change that doesn t spur the resentment of other nations, it is easily
seen that there are many Americans a majority that continue to give other nations
the impression that Americans are pompous, ugly people. The criteria of
Americans being judged as either Good Americans or Ugly Americans is derived
from William J. Lederer and Eugene Burdick s genius novel, The Ugly American,
which gives in depth descriptions of good and ugly Americans through talented
storytelling stories based on actual people and events. The authors foster a sharp
contrast between what an Ugly American is and what a Good American is; they
begin their novel with an example of an Ugly American ambassador to Sarkhan:
Louis Sears. He is an American who believes everything is done better the American
way. He refuses to learn the language of the people he is an ambassador to because
he regards it as unimportant he believes that anyone who is important or worth

Critical Analysis Of Allen Ginsberg s Howl
The Beat Generation is a literary movement during the 1950s that consisted of male
authors including the widely known Allen Ginsberg, who explored American culture
in their poems. The Beat Generation could be described as misogynistic and
patriarchal due to their exclusion of women and concerns confined to only male
outcasts. In Allen Ginsbergs 1956 Howl, he brings his audience s attention to male
outcasts in society. In her 2015 Howl , a critical response to Ginsberg s Howl , Amy
Newman explores the oppression outcasted women endure in a male dominated
culture through the allusions of an admired female poet, Ginsberg s original stanza
form, and utilizing diction to convey a woman s perspective antithetically to Allen
Ginsberg s original.
In Amy Newman s Howl , she alludes to Sylvia Plath, an American female poet, who
is acknowledged for her hardships as a outcasted female in the poetry world due to
her oppressive marriage. Newman illustrates Plath as, [a] star spangled lost in her
housebound Eden curse with orchards and a million gossipy daffodils, writing and
nursing and not on the lists... (Newman). In Allen Ginsberg s original Howl he
adverts to male poets he admires of his time, opposingly Newman emulates
Ginsberg s technique and alludes to a feminist iconic poet Sylvia Plath. Newman
implements a biblical allusion referencing The Garden of Eden to depict Plath as a
successful female poet who was metaphorically locked in her household; where a

Henry V Theme Of War
Known as one of the greatest warrior kings in all of English history, Henry V has
left a hefty impression. In Shakespeare s play of the same name, the monarch battles
literally with France for the throne and figuratively with accountability and being a
just ruler and conqueror. Through the story, we can see the values Henry holds and
how the real implications of war aren t something the king cannot deal with in a
proper manner. The debate between King Henry and the common soldiers like
Williams and Bates illustrate fundamental problems with Henry s rule and asks
important questions about the motives behind war itself. In Act 4, Scene 1 of
Shakespeare s Henry V, the king does incognito in a cloak to interact with the

He ignores the responsibility of the king for putting all these lives in danger. He
denies the fault of the king for waging the war, and instead deflects the blame onto
the will of God. Basically, his response to the soldiers is that they must be
spiritually prepared when they go into battle because the king is not responsible
for their deaths. This is a believe that is horribly ignorant and unfair to the people
who might actually lose their lives. When the king conquers the French port on the
mouth of the Seine, he insults them and states that God is on their side. Eventually,
he implies that the French should feel badly for being responsible for the death of
their many citizens at the hands of English. However, the same doesn t apply for
himself when he could be leading his men to their deaths. This might be because he
thinks God s favor lies with England but it is of course foolish and hypocritical to
believe this. Using religion as a shield is a method Henry uses throughout the play,
stating the kingdom of England has God on their side on multiple occasions. This
aversion of guilt continually demonstrates Henry s doubt in himself and fragile
Stable Phenotypic Traits
Stable Phenotypic traits For fruitful purpose , the phenotypic traits caused by RNA
silencing must be stably transmitted from one generation to next. Earlier work on
suppressing flower colour biosynthesis by antisense or sense transgenes was not
always uniform which raised uncertainty about the relevancy of the technology
(Tanaka and Mason, 2003). Afterward, the phenotypic results from IR proved more
efficacious and stable than induced by antisense or sense (Nakamura et al., 2006).
The use of IR, which avoid the step of dsRNA synthesis by the RDR, become
visible to result in silencing that is not only more competent but also more stable.
Prolonged heritage studies of RNA silencing in different commercial programs are
underway. In our lab, the phenotypes of analogous single copy transgenic corn lines
produced by the RNA silencing of endogenous LKR/SDH or zein genes (Huang et
al., 2006b; Houmard et al., 2007) have been stably retained for more than seven
traits. Transgenic soybean lines with their FAD2 1 minify by an IR transgene (S.
Ivashuta et al. Manuscript in preparation) are now germinating in their tenth field
grown generation. Possibly, the best example of RNA silencing stability is the rice
mutant, LGC 1, (Kusaba et al., 2003). Feasible/potential benefit of RNA silencing for
plant biotechnology Despite the fact most biotech plants currently grown
commercially were cultivated by the expression of transgenes, different employing

The City Of Troy And The Trojan War
The Trojan War is a war that took place around c. 1200 BCE and is one of the many
events that contributed to the fall of the Bronze Age. It was a revolutionary war for
its time, yet its existence is questioned by many. Throughout this text I will answer
the question: In your opinion, is the existence of the city of Troyand the Trojan War
real or just a good story (an artistic creation)? I believe in the existence or the city of
Troy as well as the Trojan War because of all the written and archaeological evidence
that has been found on this topic.
First of all, written evidence plays a big part in why I believe the city of Troy and
the Trojan War were real events. The biggest written evidence is the famous poem
Iliad written by Homer which tells the story of the Trojan War through Homer s
eyes. He sees it as a war that began because of a love affair between the kind of
Greece and his wife, a beautiful young woman who fell for the prince of Troy. The
evidence that has been found throughout many years has shown that it was not a
war based on a love affair, but one that began because of desire. The city of Troy
was a very wealthy city found in a very strategic location which attracted civilizations,
therefore, civilizations such as the Mycenaeans wanted to take over. Furthermore,
written tablets are another big piece of evidence when it comes to the Trojan War.
These tablets provided information that archaeologists were looking for to answer the
question: Who fought

Understanding the different motives of why people choose to hasten their death may
help you decide if you are ever in this predicament. The possibility of doctor abuse
or coercion is discussed in both articles. Coleman informs the readers of her article
that doctors have a financial interest in aiding with suicides. These physicians,
according to Coleman, are allowed to come to the conclusion of which patients is
in need of their assistance and decides what information to discuss concerning
treatment for their illness. Coleman says, Oregon Law gives physician too much
power (Coleman). It allows the physician to say who is coherent enough to make
the decision and if this is a good choice for that individual. Although, Coleman
believes that physician is coercing patients, Tucker implies that doctors do not
encourage patients to hasten death. In Tucker s article Arthur Caplan states, I was
worried about people being pressured to do this. But this data confirms, for the
seventh year, that the policy in Oregon is working. There is no evidence of abuse or
coercion or misuse of the policy (Tucker). Tucker furthermore discuss that researchers
have establish that Oregon does not have any apprehension of physicians assistance
because they do not discriminate against patients. The authors have different points of
view when discussing doctor assisted suicide effects to society. Coleman believes that

The very first item made was a trunk for Napoleon III, which led to the rise of the
higher class of customers buying the products and to keep that stature they relied on
the word of mouth of these higher class customers to spread it around in their social
groups. After that Louis Vuitton cheap handbags became the must have around
Europe and the whole world going from kings in Italy to Asian upperclassmen to

While the Second World War had begun, Louis Vuitton had collaborated with the

Trace Evidence In Criminal Investigation
The chain of custody is perhaps the most important aspect of evidence procedure. If
trace evidence is improperly handled at any point during its journey from collection,
to trial, the entire case against the defendant could be in jeopardy. This paper will
examine trace evidence, its requirements, and the necessary steps required to prove
its validity during trial proceedings.
Physical and trace evidence collected at a crime scene can be an invaluable tool for
investigating officers, as well as prosecuting attorneys. However, it is imperative that
evidence be handled appropriately, and following the appropriate chain of custody
from collection to trial. Physical evidence can play both a direct or circumstantial
role in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Davis v. Mississippi, the Supreme Court stated that fingerprints where inherently
more reliable than eyewitness identification (Gardner, 2016). Although finger
prints are considered extremely reliable, steps must be taken to ensure that the
fingerprint was actually left at the crime scene during the time period that the
crime was committed. In order to prove a fingerprint s validity, the prosecution
must rely on both expert testimony as well as detailed, accurate, and proper chain
of custody documentation. In order to prove the correct timing of the latent print,
evidence can be provided through a few methods. One method is the use of an
eyewitness who can testify to the defendant s presence during the time of the crime
(Gardner, 2016). Additionally, testimony proving that the surface was just cleaned
or washed immediately prior to the crime is admissible (Gardner, 2016). Finally,
fairly fresh prints at a crime scene where the defendant did not have access, or prints
left in blood that could only be placed after the smear was made can be considered
admissible (Gardner,
Golf Is An Interesting Game
Golf is an interesting game. In golf there are ups and downs, good shots and bad
shots, great holes and disastrous holes. Golf can always be enjoyed no matter the
skill level. Everyone playing this sport will enjoy the intriguing and magical beauty
of the land around them, the golf course. Golf has the ability of incorporating mother
nature into the round. No two holes are the same. Each course has different
elevation, grass, style, geography, climate, yardage, par, green slopes, scenery, and
landscape. Weather can also extraordinarily affect how a golfcourse plays. Most
sports are always played on the same style court or field. Many sports are
beginning to be played inside, including some professional football and soccer
games. Golf is for the nature seeker, the architect, the designer, and the creative
person. Golf Courses are like paintings, they are works of art. Today, an insightful
analysis is going to be given on some of the best courses in the world and what
makes them so memorable.
The first course I am going to talk about is a more modern golf course with a lot of
edginess, Whistling Straits. When the course was first being erected, everyone
knew that it was going to be something special because of the world renown
designer undertaking the project, Pete Dye. Nonetheless there was skepticism about
the potential of the golf course, considering they were going for a rugged and a
sloping style course and it was being constructed from a low lying, pancake flat,
Pros And Cons Of Gun Control
Gun control is a very controversial topic for Americans. Many feel that due to the
recent tragedies, Congress should enforce stronger gun control law while others
believe that banning assault weapons will not help reduce crimes. In the article titled,
Treasure the Second Amendment, but Ban Assault Rifles , Miller argues that assault
weapons should be banned, but the second amendment right to bare arms should be
valued. While in the article titled, A Ban on Assault Weapons Would Not Reduce
Crime, Merino argues that banning assault weapons would not lower the crime rate
because most criminals will just find a loophole.
Miller believed that assault weapons should be banned, but our right to bear arms
should be kept safe. He brings up the mass shooting that occurred in 2012 in a movie
theatre located in Aurora, California. His main idea of his essay is that assault
weapons should be banned, but our second amendment right to bear arms should be
kept. He states that certain more dangerous weapons such as the AR 15 should only
be available to people who protect us, such as people in the military or law
enforcement.
Miller s first claim states, It s time for politicians to do something. He dreams to see
a few ex presidents team up, and honestly speak to Americans regardless of their
political parties. He imagined them saying, We all treasure the constitution and the
Second Amendment. We believe Americans have the right to own guns. But that
amendment does not entitle citizens to own combat weapons like the assault
weapon that the Aurora shooter used to kill 12 and wound 58 more in a Colorado
theatre. He believes in owning guns for safety and protection, but a highly powered
assault weapons is not needed to do that. In conclusion Miller believes our nation s
leaders should step up, come together, and educate Americans about gun control
issues because it is obviously needed.
Miller s second claim is that the second amendment grants us the right to own guns,
but not highly powered assault weapons. Highly powered guns such as the AR 15
assault rifle is meant to be used by men and women in the military. It is not your
everyday gun that you use to kill a deer or carry around for protection.

Edward Snowden and The Government Data Collection
Program
Lon Snowden, as well as others have compared Edward Snowden to Paul Revere
and have called him a Hero while others vilify him (Gidda 3). Technically what he
has done is a crime, yet many people rally to his defence. There is every reason to
believe the federal government has been collecting every bit of information about
every American s phone calls (Hertzberg 2). Through Edward Snowden s actions we
have learned of the governments data collecting program: Prism. This has provoked
the public to question the credibility of the government. It has also stirred politicians
and citizens alike into a frenzy, debating over the legality, constitutionality, and
necessity of these covert operations. Edward Snowdens revelations on the NSA data...

Anyone who has made a call, sent a text, or done anything on the internet has their
information filed into a database (Hertzburg 1). With all this archivation and
collection of data from average American citizens, the question has been asked, is
this constitutional? In 2012 FISA was renewed again and it will expire in 2017.
The White House says until then, Prism and its data harvesting are still legal. The
government though, has reacted in many different ways. General Keith
Alexander, director of the NSA, says, it s completely legal and says it keeps
Americans safe (Bucci). Other political groups, like Florida based activist group
Freedom Watch have said, The NSA s actions are illegal and Prism violates the
constitution (Kelion 3). The 4th amendment of the constitution prohibits
unreasonable searches and seizures . If you believe the average American citizen is
a probable suspect for terrorism then Prism is constitutional. The group has filed a
lawsuit against president Obama and several high ranking officials of the
NSA(Savage). Obama initially supported the NSA s actions 100% but recently has
changed his stance. He has announced that he has come up with a proposal that will
end the aspect that most alarmed Americans , the collection of calling data and
habits. This reform gives the implication that it will stop the NSA s largest area of data
Jeffrey Eugenides The Virgin Suicides
In The Virgin Suicides, Jeffrey Eugenides uses the characterization of Lux and the
sisters as a single entity to display the negative effects of the objectification and
othering of women in today s society. Out of the five Lisbon sisters, Lux and
Cecelia are the only two given distinct and individual personalities by the narrators.
Lux is seen almost as the ringleader to the sisters, and worshipped individually.
Cecelia is singled out from the beginning, as she is the first to commit suicide. The
other three sisters are not given the individuality that Lux and Cecelia are, and
therefore appear as a singular entity, rather than three different people. Jeffrey
Eugenides uses the characterof Lux to show the issues with the implementation of...

Eugenides writes both Lux and Cecelia as very distinct people with incredibly
specific personalities. However, throughout the entire story, both the reader and the
narrators have a difficult time discerning different personalities for each of the
remaining three sisters. Anytime the narrators bring attention to the inevitable
variances in the personalities of Bonnie, Mary, and Therese, it is done in a fashion
that prevents the reader from holding onto any of that information. Mary, Bonnie,
and Therese are given very little depth apart from the complexity given to the
sisters as a whole, unlike their younger siblings. When Cecelia s diary is found by
the narrators, they explain that many strange sentences conjure in the reader s mind
an image of a mythical creature with ten legs and five heads (Eugenides 39). This
is significant as it makes the sisters appear less human, once again. This further
objectifies and others them from the boys and the rest of the neighborhood, as it sets
them apart from their suburban norm. Louise Wandland explains in her essay
entitled We Couldn t Fathom Them at All , the novel presents us with an image of
women as others, which is problematic as it denies women subjectivity and a voice
to tell their own story (Wandland 4). The othering of the girls makes the Lisbon
sisters seem like
Bring Back Flogging Analysis
Is Violence the Response to Criminals Actions? In Bring Back Flogging, the author,
Jeff Jacoby suggests that people should adopt some of the Puritans tactics to punish
criminals instead of putting them in prison. Jacoby is basing his claim on the use
of irony, logos, and ethos. According to Jeff Jacoby, a moment of humiliation is
better than a couple of years behind bars. I do not agree with Jeff Jacoby s argument
because the examples he gives and the way he refers to the topic incite readers to
violence, also during the development of the subject he is too contradictory with his
own opinions making his arguments unclear. To begin with, at the start of his article
Jeff Jacoby mentions old tactics of punishmentpursued by Puritans. At the same time,
the author is giving ideas of how to take justice into our own hands. For example, in
paragraph 13 Jacoby mentions, Their sanctions (Puritan s actions) were humiliating
and painful, but quick and cheap. Maybe we should readopt a few, basically the
author is suggesting we should punish criminals with our own hands. Consequently,
Jacoby declares on paragraph 6, ...a stint in prisonbecomes a sign of manhood, a
status of the symbol, now the author is claiming that the prisons are unworthy and
incarcerate people is not the solution because according to him there are better ways.
Besides, on paragraphs 2 and 3, Jeff Jacoby mentions four cases of people that were
punished by the Puritans. This group committed crimes that today

The President of the United States of America, James K. Polk, who had been elected into office in 1844. Polk won the election by showing his support of the re occupation of Oregon and the re annexation of Texas. In doing so he was able to appeal to both the southern and northern expansionists. Polk spearheaded the tasks soon after entering office. Manifest Destiny is what urged The States to expand their territory, forming the country we have today. Many United Statescitizens had migrated into Texas, which was under the control of Mexico. Many also migrated from the United States and to Oregon, which was occupied by both The United States and Britain. In 1824, Mexico put in place a law that would offer cheap land and a four year exemption from taxes for all Americans willing to migrate to Texas. Six years later, American immigrants had outnumbered the Mexican population. The American migrant population had become more than double of that of the Mexican population in Texas. Tensions had been raised and led to conflict in Texas. In the Oregon Territory, both Britain and the United States had claimed sovereignty, or authority, over the Oregon Territory. Without any actual resolution, both Britain and the United States decided to sign an 1818 treaty that would allow both factions to occupy the territory. By 1820 American interest in

  • 10. Ray Bradbury Characteristics Ray Bradbury was best known for his short stories. He worked very hard when he was alive and was influenced by events happening around him. Many people were kind and caring in the times that he wrote his stories but there were also a lot of people who had many flaws. Mostly because of war or poverty but some had their own reasonings. In turn, he implemented some of the characteristics of people in that time, in his characters. In many ways, the main character in A Sound of Thunder (Eckels) is flawed. He is arrogant, impatient, and believes that if he feels regret, then anything bad he has done will be forgiven and fixed. He shares those flaws with William, one of Bradbury s characters in All Summer In a Day. Although, in some ways, the characteristics... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They always have to interfere with events where they don t like what is happening. So, they decide that they should try and fix it themselves but they are just making it worse. They also don t really think about what they are doing, they just do. In All Summer In a Day, William is extremely rude to Margot and doesn t like the stuff she does so he does things to try and change those things so he is happy but he doesn t think about Margot s feelings he just shouts at her saying What re you looking at? (Bradbury) and Speak when you re spoken to (Bradbury). He doesn t think, he just does, he is very impulsive and impatient. Similarly, Eckels is remarkably impatient and impulsive. He is frightened and nervous when he realizes that killing a dinosaur is extremely dangerous and he he just took a few steps, blinking, shuffling. Not that way! (Bradbury). He doesn t listen to the other people shouting, he just walks off the path. He hurts himself by doing this because he changed the future and he hurt the people around him because he didn t only change the future he lived in, he changed everything. Although William and Eckels have the same trait, they use it differently. William uses it to tear a person apart (Margot) and Eckels uses it to change people s lives (unintentionally but still stupidly) and to change the future. Both William and Eckels are to blame for the majority of their problems in their story and one of the biggest reasons why is that they are impatient and
  • 11. Water Scarcity In Africa Water scarcity occurs when there is the lack of sufficient available water resources to meet the needs of water within a region. The continent of Africa is a main region that deals with this scarcity; as the most impoverished continent in the world ( World Bank Poverty Data 2016 ), almost all countries in Africalack major resources such as water, causing several organizations and groups to donate their time and contributions. Water scarcity is categorized by economic and physical levels. Economic growth can result in physical water scarcity as water is channeled into economic production. Physical water scarcity occurs when the demand of water surpasses a region s ability to provide the populations with needed water. On the other hand, economic water scarcity occurs when government investments in water resources are so inconsiderably low that they are not able to meet clean water demands for the population, which results in people drinking and using contaminated water. Groups such as non governmental organizations often work in water scarce areas to help those in need. Non governmental organizations are not for profit groups that aid countries worldwide through donated funding. There are over four thousand NGOs throughout Africa helping to provide clean water sources, fighting for poverty, and contributing to education (Edelman Haugerud, p. 113) By comparing celebrity and non celebrity endorsed NGOs, the objective of my research is to gain a better understanding of
  • 12. Essay On Dividend Allocation Dividend allocation Another key stream of the proposed carbon tax policy is to promise dividend to all individual Americans on an equal and quarterly basis. The proposal argues that this amount is sufficient to compensate increased financial burden on consumers due to the carbon tax. However, equal distribution of dividend may not be able to compensate appropriately because individuals are not worse off to the same extent by the carbon tax. This is because not all individuals earn the same level of income, and more importantly, the energy consumption has a negative relationship over income level. [Figure 3 places here] As figure 3 shows that households have a different share of expenditure on energy depending on the income level. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the carbon tax dividend needs to be adjusted based on the relative carbon tax impact on different level groups to compensate different groups loss accordingly. In addition, the government also needs to consider a dividend in terms of different level of consumption of carbon intensive energy. As we have seen in figure 3, the highest income level group consumes up to 4 times more energy than the lowest income level group. Also, there is no incentive for high income individuals to reduce emissions because even high energy consumption is a small fraction compared to their high income level. Therefore, it is critically important to differentiate carbon dividend depending upon the income level in the proper compensating perspective. In addition, there is also an alternative way for the government to take in terms of lowering the electricity consumption, which is consumed mostly by the high income group as we discussed above. That is adopting non linear pricing for electricity and gasoline. When the total energy consumption gets smaller, the total carbon emission level will decline since energy supply only exists to meet the demand. Thus, this new equilibrium of saving energy will eventually limit electricity price from soaring up and protect the low income group from the additional burden. Future study Appropriate carbon tax rate. As explained above, a carbon tax could play a pivotal role in the economy and the

From the geological aspect down to the basics that make up a civilization like religion, government, a written language, to even the inventions that made a huge impact. It all started as early as 3200 B.C. with Mesopotamiaand Egypt over by the Mediterranean Sea. Although, both Mesopotamia and Egypt fall under the criteria of being a civilizationwhen compared to each other they were vastly different civilizations with how their people acted in that era. First, lets start with Mesopotamia and what its civilization was like. It was in between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers that established rich soil to be able to grow and harvest food, and thus survival... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The area Mesopotamia and Egypt built their communities allowed a varied response. This varied response was because Egypt had stability and protection with the desert being a boundary line that no very many could survive through let alone charge an entire army and with Mesopotamia the mini communities there were in constant battle with each other for water and food for their people. Then even though with religion they both were polytheistic Egypt took religion a lot more seriously with the belief of an afterlife as a good thing, yet Mesopotamia thought going to the afterlife was a punishment and more like our view today on Hell. Mesopotamia s government was through strict brute force that ended up leading to their own ruin and the Egyptians ruled through a kind of hierarchy with the bloodline of the Pharaohs that lead to respect, as long as you didn t mess with the worship of the Gods. The inventions were different as Mesopotamia had only basic math and Egypt had algebra which created stepping stones to society s math today. Egypt even went as far as to make one of the first kind of paper instead of using clay tablets. Although Mesopotamia invented the wheel long before Egypt

  • 15. The Is An Old Proverb Where there is a will, there is a way Where there is a will, there is a way is an old proverb which almost everyone knows, but not everyone understand it very well. This proverb means that if you are really resolved to do something, no matter how difficult it might be, never give up, and you will find a way to do it at last. In our life, many people are under too much pressure, just like a piece of heavy rock on the shoulder. So we need to calm down and think about our future to find out a way to release stress. We may wonder if there is no hope for us to become successful. And we know that sighing is not useful, and the only way is that we must find a goal or dream in our lives. The reason why people feel confused and futureless is that they do not have clear aspirations, and they do not know what they live for. Without goals, they will only stay in the same place and never go ahead. Without ambitions, they will become lazy and resign themselves to fate. If we do not want opportunities to slip away, we need to go out of the whirlpool of confusion by setting up ideals and ambitions. A great person not only has a clear goal, but also has a firm resolution and an inflexible spirit. Ninety percent of the failures that occur are due to the fact that there is no strong will. On many occasions, people probably say much more than the truth about difficulties, making the objective impossible to reach. In fact, if a person has the will to succeed, then the size of

Systematic Synthetic Phonics Interventions This research aims to explore the effect of Read Write Inc (RWI) as a systematic synthetic phonics intervention on the development of children s reading in Key Stage 1 (Miskin Website). The argument about whether the phonics or the whole word approach to teaching children to read and spell has been around since the 1950s. It is no closer to being resolved nearly 70 years later. This advocates that readingis a vital and crucial part of a child s education(Anderson, 2015). The current government is in favour of using systematic synthetic phonics interventions to develop reading in schools; where the children learn the sounds of the letter rather than the whole words. Education Secretary Michael Grove is behind this intervention and has provided funding for training and has introduced a screening reading test for all six year olds to check their reading skills (Garner, 2011). Nick Gibb cited by Garner (2011) agrees expressing that systematic synthetic phonics should be incorporated into more schools, suggesting that it has major and long lasting effects on children s reading and spelling. Understandably, candidates try to focus on Indiana s largest economic markets to get as much support as possible. For example, Northwestern Indiana is the largest steel producing area in the U.S. Besides steel, pharmaceuticals and medical devices reign king in central Indiana (Bureau of Labor Statistics, http://stats.bls.gov /eag/eag.in.htm). (P4) In this assignment I will be explaining the physiology of two named body systems in relation to energy metabolism in the body, the Respiration system and the Digestive system. I will start off by giving a definition of energy metabolism in the body. Metabolism in the body is a collection of chemical reactions that takes place in the body s cells. Metabolism converts the nutrients in the food that we eat in to essential energy which is needed to power all that we do, from something as little as thinking to growing physically or carrying out a physical activity. In our body s, there are a specific protein which controls the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Discuss the role of energy in the body (M1) In our bodies we need energy so that we could do things that are possible such as move our muscles, talk and all the other things that we do. Without energy all humans would be useless not being able to do anything. Energy is needed to extract the oxygen from the areas in our bodies and diffuse it into our bloodstream. Supplying enough energy to support the functions of the body in a daily basis is one of the main reasons for food. This energy comes from the fats, carbohydrates, and proteins in the food you eat. Of the three, fat is the most concentrated source of energy. Energy requirements are normally put in terms of calories. The energy requirement for a person is spilt into two parts: basal metabolic requirements and energy required for activity. Basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the heat taken from the body at rest when temperature is normal. An average person requires 2000 2500 Calories per day while the difference for a large man doing heavy work may require up to 6000 Calories per day. When you choose foods that have more energy, or Calories than you need, the excess energy is stored as fat in the body which will results in putting on some weight. If too little food is eaten to meet energy demands, the body s stored fat serves as an energy source and this will result in weight loss. Your weight stays about the same if the energy from food matches the energy requirements of the body. As warm blooded

Pat Barker and Wilfred Owen are both successful writers in delivering an insight into trench life from the perspective of a soldier, although in different ways. Owen, being a soldier himself, has had first hand experience of trench life and describes the pity of war, in that war is a waste of young, innocent lives, and the bitterness of the soldiers towards the people who do not have to fight. Owen describes how the waiting for the inevitable keeps the soldiers awake as the night is silent and this is worse than the noise of activity. All these soldiers have to do is wait and wonder what are we doing here? But nothing happens. In the sixth stanza Owen refers to the ghosts drag home almost suggesting that the soldiers are alone, not even their spirits can survive the emptiness of the trenches. To begin with, the images in the poem appear to contrast with those in Regeneration as we see Sassoon looking forward to sleeping in clean whit sheets, although we realise that he feels guilty that he can enjoy this luxury and his comrades cannot. He says to Graves as he is seeing him off at the station Dottyville is almost bearable knowing you don t have to be vomited on, this gives us an insight into the physical well being of some of the soldiers. This is the same attitude displayed towards shirkers and pacifists. A wrongful conviction can greatly impact an individual s life and may continue to be an issue even after exoneration. Many people are under the impression that individuals who are wrongfully convicted and later exonerated have won the battle over the justice system, however this is rarely the case. Exonerees experience great amounts of hardship once released back into society. There are flaws in the justice system, which make it extremely difficult for exonerees to experience true freedom. In Allen Ginsbergs 1956 Howl, he brings his audience s attention to male outcasts in society. This allowed companies to cut retail costs and redistribute the savings. A lot of waste material is produced, and companies spend thousands of dollars on disposing it. Since 2007, Lovell discovered a new method of production that can use the by product of chocolate manufacturing companies. 3.3 Sociocultural Analysis Consumers want a larger variety of chocolates and healthier alternatives to the traditional chocolates. Dark chocolates provided several health benefits by adding a flavonoid in the chocolate that prevents various cardiovascular problems (Chocolate Trading Co., 2005). 3.4 Technological Analysis The chocolate and cocoa industries lack supports of Non Government Organizations (NGO), which restrict the farmer s access to business guidance, funding, and continuing education. Farmers can t learn new technologies making them less efficient. This prevents the chocolate manufacturers from gaining cocoa efficiently to create more chocolates
  • 37. Henry V Theme Of War Known as one of the greatest warrior kings in all of English history, Henry V has left a hefty impression. In Shakespeare s play of the same name, the monarch battles literally with France for the throne and figuratively with accountability and being a just ruler and conqueror. Through the story, we can see the values Henry holds and how the real implications of war aren t something the king cannot deal with in a proper manner. The debate between King Henry and the common soldiers like Williams and Bates illustrate fundamental problems with Henry s rule and asks important questions about the motives behind war itself. In Act 4, Scene 1 of Shakespeare s Henry V, the king does incognito in a cloak to interact with the everyman of his army. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He ignores the responsibility of the king for putting all these lives in danger. He denies the fault of the king for waging the war, and instead deflects the blame onto the will of God. Basically, his response to the soldiers is that they must be spiritually prepared when they go into battle because the king is not responsible for their deaths. This is a believe that is horribly ignorant and unfair to the people who might actually lose their lives. When the king conquers the French port on the mouth of the Seine, he insults them and states that God is on their side. Eventually, he implies that the French should feel badly for being responsible for the death of their many citizens at the hands of English. However, the same doesn t apply for himself when he could be leading his men to their deaths. This might be because he thinks God s favor lies with England but it is of course foolish and hypocritical to believe this. Using religion as a shield is a method Henry uses throughout the play, stating the kingdom of England has God on their side on multiple occasions. This aversion of guilt continually demonstrates Henry s doubt in himself and fragile

Earlier work on suppressing flower colour biosynthesis by antisense or sense transgenes was not always uniform which raised uncertainty about the relevancy of the technology (Tanaka and Mason, 2003). Afterward, the phenotypic results from IR proved more efficacious and stable than induced by antisense or sense (Nakamura et al., 2006). The use of IR, which avoid the step of dsRNA synthesis by the RDR, become visible to result in silencing that is not only more competent but also more stable. Prolonged heritage studies of RNA silencing in different commercial programs are underway. In our lab, the phenotypes of analogous single copy transgenic corn lines produced by the RNA silencing of endogenous LKR/SDH or zein genes (Huang et al., 2006b; Houmard et al., 2007) have been stably retained for more than seven traits. Transgenic soybean lines with their FAD2 1 minify by an IR transgene (S. Ivashuta et al. Manuscript in preparation) are now germinating in their tenth field grown generation. Possibly, the best example of RNA silencing stability is the rice mutant, LGC 1, (Kusaba et al., 2003). Feasible/potential benefit of RNA silencing for plant biotechnology Despite the fact most biotech plants currently grown commercially were cultivated by the expression of transgenes, different employing RNA silencing have been recognized by

One after the other; a partnered duo after the mysterious vigilante, who wreaked havoc, and tarnished Samuel s name and records. Samuel s feet burned, his chest ached, but his steps didn t falter. The Scourge was almost in their grasps, despite manoeuvring expertly around trash canisters, fallen objects, trying to shake them as they darted through the darkness of the backstreets. With Kushan s help, they had managed to locate and find their target. The two had approached The Scourge, each had his gun held up, and about to call out freeze! when The Scourge suddenly bolted. On they ran, further and deeper into the ruins of the old city, until, eventually, The Scourge took a wrong turn into a dead end. Cautiously, with gun still raised, Samuel approached The Scourge and unclipped and removed the helmet. He faltered, his eyes widening, his hands shaking. He lowered the ground with a clank.
  • 40. The City Of Troy And The Trojan War The Trojan War is a war that took place around c. 1200 BCE and is one of the many events that contributed to the fall of the Bronze Age. It was a revolutionary war for its time, yet its existence is questioned by many. Throughout this text I will answer the question: In your opinion, is the existence of the city of Troyand the Trojan War real or just a good story (an artistic creation)? I believe in the existence or the city of Troy as well as the Trojan War because of all the written and archaeological evidence that has been found on this topic. First of all, written evidence plays a big part in why I believe the city of Troy and the Trojan War were real events. The biggest written evidence is the famous poem Iliad written by Homer which tells the story of the Trojan War through Homer s eyes. He sees it as a war that began because of a love affair between the kind of Greece and his wife, a beautiful young woman who fell for the prince of Troy. The evidence that has been found throughout many years has shown that it was not a war based on a love affair, but one that began because of desire. The city of Troy was a very wealthy city found in a very strategic location which attracted civilizations, therefore, civilizations such as the Mycenaeans wanted to take over. Furthermore, written tablets are another big piece of evidence when it comes to the Trojan War. These tablets provided information that archaeologists were looking for to answer the question: Who fought

Understanding the different motives of why people choose to hasten their death may help you decide if you are ever in this predicament. The possibility of doctor abuse or coercion is discussed in both articles. Coleman informs the readers of her article that doctors have a financial interest in aiding with suicides. These physicians, according to Coleman, are allowed to come to the conclusion of which patients is in need of their assistance and decides what information to discuss concerning treatment for their illness. Coleman says, Oregon Law gives physician too much power (Coleman). It allows the physician to say who is coherent enough to make the decision and if this is a good choice for that individual. Although, Coleman believes that physician is coercing patients, Tucker implies that doctors do not encourage patients to hasten death. In Tucker s article Arthur Caplan states, I was worried about people being pressured to do this. But this data confirms, for the seventh year, that the policy in Oregon is working. There is no evidence of abuse or coercion or misuse of the policy (Tucker). Tucker furthermore discuss that researchers have establish that Oregon does not have any apprehension of physicians assistance because they do not discriminate against patients. The authors have different points of view when discussing doctor assisted suicide effects to society. Coleman believes that people with disabilities

If trace evidence is improperly handled at any point during its journey from collection, to trial, the entire case against the defendant could be in jeopardy. This paper will examine trace evidence, its requirements, and the necessary steps required to prove its validity during trial proceedings. Physical and trace evidence collected at a crime scene can be an invaluable tool for investigating officers, as well as prosecuting attorneys. However, it is imperative that evidence be handled appropriately, and following the appropriate chain of custody from collection to trial. Physical evidence can play both a direct or circumstantial role in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Davis v. Mississippi, the Supreme Court stated that fingerprints where inherently more reliable than eyewitness identification (Gardner, 2016). Although finger prints are considered extremely reliable, steps must be taken to ensure that the fingerprint was actually left at the crime scene during the time period that the crime was committed. In order to prove a fingerprint s validity, the prosecution must rely on both expert testimony as well as detailed, accurate, and proper chain of custody documentation. In order to prove the correct timing of the latent print, evidence can be provided through a few methods. One method is the use of an eyewitness who can testify to the defendant s presence during the time of the crime (Gardner, 2016). Additionally, testimony proving that the surface was just cleaned or washed immediately prior to the crime is admissible (Gardner, 2016). Finally, fairly fresh prints at a crime scene where the defendant did not have access, or prints left in blood that could only be placed after the smear was made can be considered admissible (Gardner,

Golf can always be enjoyed no matter the skill level. Everyone playing this sport will enjoy the intriguing and magical beauty of the land around them, the golf course. Golf has the ability of incorporating mother nature into the round. No two holes are the same. Each course has different elevation, grass, style, geography, climate, yardage, par, green slopes, scenery, and landscape. Weather can also extraordinarily affect how a golfcourse plays. Most sports are always played on the same style court or field. Many sports are beginning to be played inside, including some professional football and soccer games. Golf is for the nature seeker, the architect, the designer, and the creative person. Golf Courses are like paintings, they are works of art. Today, an insightful analysis is going to be given on some of the best courses in the world and what makes them so memorable. The first course I am going to talk about is a more modern golf course with a lot of edginess, Whistling Straits. When the course was first being erected, everyone knew that it was going to be something special because of the world renown designer undertaking the project, Pete Dye. Nonetheless there was skepticism about the potential of the golf course, considering they were going for a rugged and a sloping style course and it was being constructed from a low lying, pancake flat,
  • 45. Pros And Cons Of Gun Control Gun control is a very controversial topic for Americans. Many feel that due to the recent tragedies, Congress should enforce stronger gun control law while others believe that banning assault weapons will not help reduce crimes. In the article titled, Treasure the Second Amendment, but Ban Assault Rifles , Miller argues that assault weapons should be banned, but the second amendment right to bare arms should be valued. While in the article titled, A Ban on Assault Weapons Would Not Reduce Crime, Merino argues that banning assault weapons would not lower the crime rate because most criminals will just find a loophole. Miller believed that assault weapons should be banned, but our right to bear arms should be kept safe. He brings up the mass shooting that occurred in 2012 in a movie theatre located in Aurora, California. His main idea of his essay is that assault weapons should be banned, but our second amendment right to bear arms should be kept. He states that certain more dangerous weapons such as the AR 15 should only be available to people who protect us, such as people in the military or law enforcement. Miller s first claim states, It s time for politicians to do something. He dreams to see a few ex presidents team up, and honestly speak to Americans regardless of their political parties. He imagined them saying, We all treasure the constitution and the Second Amendment. We believe Americans have the right to own guns. But that amendment does not entitle citizens to own combat weapons like the assault weapon that the Aurora shooter used to kill 12 and wound 58 more in a Colorado theatre. He believes in owning guns for safety and protection, but a highly powered assault weapons is not needed to do that. In conclusion Miller believes our nation s leaders should step up, come together, and educate Americans about gun control issues because it is obviously needed. Miller s second claim is that the second amendment grants us the right to own guns, but not highly powered assault weapons. Highly powered guns such as the AR 15 assault rifle is meant to be used by men and women in the military. It is not your everyday gun that you use to kill a deer or carry around for protection.

With all this archivation and collection of data from average American citizens, the question has been asked, is this constitutional? In 2012 FISA was renewed again and it will expire in 2017. The White House says until then, Prism and its data harvesting are still legal. The government though, has reacted in many different ways. General Keith Alexander, director of the NSA, says, it s completely legal and says it keeps Americans safe (Bucci). Other political groups, like Florida based activist group Freedom Watch have said, The NSA s actions are illegal and Prism violates the constitution (Kelion 3). The 4th amendment of the constitution prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures . If you believe the average American citizen is a probable suspect for terrorism then Prism is constitutional. The group has filed a lawsuit against president Obama and several high ranking officials of the NSA(Savage). Obama initially supported the NSA s actions 100% but recently has changed his stance. He has announced that he has come up with a proposal that will end the aspect that most alarmed Americans , the collection of calling data and habits. This reform gives the implication that it will stop the NSA s largest area of data

Jeffrey Eugenides The Virgin Suicides In The Virgin Suicides, Jeffrey Eugenides uses the characterization of Lux and the sisters as a single entity to display the negative effects of the objectification and othering of women in today s society. Lux is seen almost as the ringleader to the sisters, and worshipped individually. Cecelia is singled out from the beginning, as she is the first to commit suicide. Eugenides writes both Lux and Cecelia as very distinct people with incredibly specific personalities. However, throughout the entire story, both the reader and the narrators have a difficult time discerning different personalities for each of the remaining three sisters. Anytime the narrators bring attention to the inevitable variances in the personalities of Bonnie, Mary, and Therese, it is done in a fashion that prevents the reader from holding onto any of that information. Mary, Bonnie, and Therese are given very little depth apart from the complexity given to the sisters as a whole, unlike their younger siblings. When Cecelia s diary is found by the narrators, they explain that many strange sentences conjure in the reader s mind an image of a mythical creature with ten legs and five heads (Eugenides 39). This is significant as it makes the sisters appear less human, once again. This further objectifies and others them from the boys and the rest of the neighborhood, as it sets them apart from their suburban norm. Louise Wandland explains in her essay entitled We Couldn t Fathom Them at All , the novel presents us with an image of women as others, which is problematic as it denies women subjectivity and a voice to tell their own story (Wandland 4). The othering of the girls makes the Lisbon sisters seem like
  • 49. Bring Back Flogging Analysis Is Violence the Response to Criminals Actions? In Bring Back Flogging, the author, Jeff Jacoby suggests that people should adopt some of the Puritans tactics to punish criminals instead of putting them in prison. Jacoby is basing his claim on the use of irony, logos, and ethos. According to Jeff Jacoby, a moment of humiliation is better than a couple of years behind bars. I do not agree with Jeff Jacoby s argument because the examples he gives and the way he refers to the topic incite readers to violence, also during the development of the subject he is too contradictory with his own opinions making his arguments unclear. To begin with, at the start of his article Jeff Jacoby mentions old tactics of punishmentpursued by Puritans. At the same time, the author is giving ideas of how to take justice into our own hands. For example, in paragraph 13 Jacoby mentions, Their sanctions (Puritan s actions) were humiliating and painful, but quick and cheap. Maybe we should readopt a few, basically the author is suggesting we should punish criminals with our own hands. Consequently, Jacoby declares on paragraph 6, ...a stint in prisonbecomes a sign of manhood, a status of the symbol, now the author is claiming that the prisons are unworthy and incarcerate people is not the solution because according to him there are better ways. Besides, on paragraphs 2 and 3, Jeff Jacoby mentions four cases of people that were punished by the Puritans. This group committed crimes that today
