13. ENTERING FRACTIONS
1. To enter a mixed number, leave a space between the whole number and the
fraction.
(Example 1 1/8).
2. To enter a fraction only, type in a zero first. (Example: 0 ¼) If you enter ¼ without the
zero. Excel will interpret the number as a date.
3. If you type (100) to indicate a negative number by (parenthesis). Excel will display the
number as -100
ENTERING NUMBERS FORMATTED AS TEXT
1. To treat a number as text just add an apostrophe (‘) character before the number.

15. USING AUTOCOMPLETE
The autocomplete function helps to enter data easily. It can be used when entering
labels down a column.
Automatically repeat values or data that already exist in the column
If the first few characters that you type in a cell match an existing entry in that column,
Excel
automatically enters the remaining characters for you.
LIMITATIONS of AUTOCOMPLETE
Excel automatically completes only those entries that contain text or a combination of
text and numbers. Entries that contain only numbers, dates, or times are not
automatically completed.
It only works for data being entered in columns, and not for those entered across a
row.
It only applies for columns of continuous data, as soon as gap is left in a column,
Autocomplete stops.

18. EXTENDING A SERIES WITH AUTOFILL
a. When typing a data that starts a series such as a day or month, AUTOFILL can complete the
series automatically. It works with days of the week, months of the year, or yearly quarters such as
second quarter.
b. If you use AUTOFILL on single value or text word, it will be duplicated.

19. EVALUATION: Write TRUE if the statement is correct, and FALSE if
incorrect
1. A cell can hold any of the three basic types of data.
2. A text is automatically aligns to the right, while number is
aligns to the left.
3. You can either enter dates by using a forward slash or a
hypen.
