North Devon Farms - Getting to know the Cloud 14th Oct 2015Get up to Speed
Cloud computing is becoming a standard way for businesses to access IT resources and applications over the internet. By 2016, Gartner predicts that using the cloud will be commonplace for most businesses. The cloud provides major advantages like reduced costs, flexibility, scalability, and mobility. It allows businesses to avoid large upfront capital expenses on infrastructure and instead pay based on usage. Various cloud models like SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS provide different options for businesses to leverage the cloud. Security concerns still exist but can be addressed through authentication, encryption, activity monitoring and contractual agreements with cloud providers.
Cisco has evolved its intranet over time from a basic web presence to a more integrated digital experience. Currently, Cisco is focusing on driving relevant digital experiences through its web, mobile, social, and video platforms. There is an emerging trend of convergence between Cisco's internal and external digital properties. Cisco's vision for the future is to create an integrated digital ecosystem and lead transformations through technology innovation and agility. Guiding principles for intranet transformation include user experience-centered design, agility, and establishing governance structures.

Under eventet berördes följande punkter:
- Big Data och Business Intelligence (BI)
- “The Google Big Data tools” – framgångsfaktorer och hur man kommer igång
- Google Cloud Platform och hur man genomför en framgångsrik molnsatsning
Vi presenterade case och berättade om viktiga lärdomar vi dragit i samarbetet med Google och våra kunder.

When cloud is NOT a fit
• When the points of integration are not well defined
• When security is so much of a risk that organization just cannot
trust systems that it does not completely control.
• When control is critical to business. If organization cannot afford
to outsource a critical component to anybody who is less than
100% reliable, then cloud computing is not right for it.
• When the core internal enterprise architecture is broken. If
enterprise architecture is dysfunctional, then extending it out to
cloud-delivered platforms is not a good idea.
• When the application requires a native interface.
• When cost is an issue and it has to be considered holistically.

Business case considerations
Is it an enabler of business growth or drain on cash
flow?
• Look at the total cost of ownership
– Has your current system paid for itself yet? Include residual
costs
– Include costs of specialist support for transition
– Costs/time for procurement and contracts
– Rollout funding, training and investment
– Migration and data cleansing budget

Data protection considerations
Protection of data: Businesses cannot delegate
responsibility of data security to their agents
– „Appropriate technical and organisational measures shall be
taken against unauthorised or unlawful processing of personal
data and against accidental loss or destruction of, or damage to,
personal data.‟
• There is great advice and tools on the ICO website:
• Access to data: What guarantees are in place to maintain access to
data?
services/initiatives/Pages/security-and-privacy.aspx
• http://www.microsoft.com/online/legal/v2/en-
us/MOS_PTC_Security_Audit.htm

Data protection concerns
Location of data: Where is your data held?
– Is it outside of county, UK, EU or safe harbor?
– „Personal data shall not be transferred to a country or
territory outside the European Economic Area unless that
country or territory ensures an adequate level of protection
for the rights and freedoms of data subjects in relation to
the processing of personal data.‟
• In practice – check cloud provider has data centre within EU
(Check the regulation around your website too)
• Check safe harbor here http://safeharbor.export.gov/list.aspx
• Check Microsoft compliance http://www.microsoft.com/online/legal/v2/en-
us/MOS_PTC_Security_Audit.htm
87. Serco Internal
Service level Agreements
• Service-level agreements (SLAs): Are there guarantees that the
cloud provider will meet required levels of service?
– What percentage of the time services will be available and any
service credits for failure to comply
– The number of users that can be served simultaneously
– Specific performance benchmarks to which actual performance
will be periodically compared
– The schedule for notification in advance of network changes that
may affect users
– Help desk response time for various classes of problems
– Dial-in access availability
– Usage statistics that will be provided.
– Have a look at HP‟s SLA https://www.hpcloud.com/SLA

• Disaster recovery: Which technologies are in place to provide
business continuity and backup/recovery needs?
• Check your supplier for disaster recovery service
• Plan for cloud failure – your back up plan might be another
cloud solution (DraaS) or other backup service
89. Serco Internal
Migration considerations
• Transfer timetable
• Migration plan
• Seek references
• Check data location
• Set in place deliverables from client and supplier
• Data cleansing plan
• Training roll out
• Change management plan
• Start small and work up

7 things to consider - Cloud
1. Start small, try it and see if it fits.
2. Consider cultural changes and build this into the plan
3. Consider due diligence of the software providers - How many
subscribers have you got – 200,000 then it has legs
4. Look for references, check testimonials
5. Select a supplier that can deliver high service levels –a
dedicated support team and round the clock monitoring
6. Be clear on how flexible and scalable your solution is –what is
their partner and API network like?
7. Check out their data security credentials – is the service
compliant with UK data protection law and your own client
contracts?

• 5. HaaS - Hardware as a Service
• Hardware as a Service is more than just leasing PCs. HaaS
providers typically deal with the full desktop lifecycle including
procurement and replacement of PCs, proactive patching and
OS level software and IT monitoring. It's usually a pay-as-you-go
or subscription model. Some definitions of HaaS includes other IT
hardware. For this list, I refer to this as IaaS or Infrastructure as a
Service. I found that Haas providers served a local market. I am
sure this will change in the coming years.

• 3. DaaS - Desktop as a Service
• Desktop as a Service (Daas) represents a new paradigm of
desktop applications. We are used to Microsoft Office or our
favorite accounting application being installed and run on our
local computer. This works fine but when you need to deploy
an upgrade or patch one of the subsystems, this scenario
becomes very inefficient. Multiply this by a company with
10,000 desktop PCs and you see what kind of overhead this can
result in.
• DaaS results in a virtual desktop delivered on demand. While
many of the "as a Service" solutions are delivered from the
clould, Desktop as a Service applications can be delivered
from the cloud or just delivered from the organization's data
center. Local applications can be delivered remotely using
technology from VMWare or Citrix s well as others. There is a
trend in this space for Desktop as a Service (DaaS).

The market appears to be moving from a hype-driven, early-adopter push toward solving real business problems for enterprises and government agencies. http://pro.gigaom.com/report/cloud-and-data-first-quarter-2013-analysis-and-outlook/?utm_source=cloud&utm_medium=editorial&utm_campaign=auto3&utm_term=548912+dropbox-yes-we-were-hacked&utm_content=gigabarb

Software as a Service (SaaS):This is a complete preconfigured application environment, for example salesforce.com or Google Apps. The customer simply consumes the application as a service, usually on a per-user basis, and has no long-term commitment (but equally almost no control).Platform as a Service (PaaS): This adds a complete software stack; for example LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP/Perl). Each customer is then able to write or load applications into this known environment, with the provider responsible for expanding or contracting the Cloud infrastructure and/or the software landscape to meet changing demands.Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): The flexible provision of CPU capacity, data storage, network bandwidth and basic operating system. Each customer is responsible for running their software stack on top, and is able to re-size the underlying Cloud Infrastructure (CI) on demand.
Private cloud – separate stack. Google APPS is not private and can never be.

In last five years used a dongle to move around large files. Dropbox is a large dongle. Dropbox is the first to the party so has the market share currently. Not great for security Box.com or Skydrive shared and easy passwords. Big problems was passwords were not kept in encrpyted file. Not something you would rely the busienss on.
I currently have 9.25Gb storage
Drive has only been around for about a year, and this more enterprise and had far better understanding of security. Have to have a Gmail account and sep email address.
Weak and woolly response. 2 versions 1st is a public free service. 25gb is part of 365. It’s integration is excellent at base level.
Danger with these is that these type will want to end up with Google and 365 and dropboxHow many subscribers have you got?detailed syncing options, and can back up or sync any files or folders you choose on your system, SugarSync can work like a backup client, The service keeps an impressive revision history for each of your files, lets you share, lock down, or password protect individual files on the web or on the desktop, and even makes streaming media to your mobile devices easyget 5GB for free, desktop apps for OS X and Windows mobile apps for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone
Without using 365 or Google Apps
Great for server back up and a secure server second phase back up. Remote backup
CRM in Podio basic and few days –podio and google work well together
Big battle ground for the industry is the instant messaging war. MS are making massive strides intot he market by buying Skype. Email in the cloud and sending attachments to each other. The next logical step is seeing each others eyeballs. I’m sitting 280 miles away and we are building a presentation together. If you belive Google is great then Hangouts is great. All email contacts are in together. In Microsoft Lync/Skype a really important event. Lync world will have a telephone number attached to your Lync account. Skype will really blend into Lync.If you have a live.com email address, skydrive, skype connectivity and Facebook. This is the area that massively benefit with superfast broadband

Sharepoint marketplaceThis is designed to make larger companies to move to the cloud without loosing their ways of thinking. IT is about businesses that has already invested in MS like call centres, Dynamics CRM with other Dynamics, Lync,It is too difficult for larger businesses over 10 to APIMS know how to make their software talk to each other.Inside dynamics, take a call, allocate ticket to desk and allocate this. In Google using Google apps and Zen desk you can’t do a seemless transaction.Reseller 80% 365 a monthExtended CRM argumentKerry businesshas 30 staff and has to use 365 as Google’s promise doesn’t deliver. Religious debate. Maverick go with Google and if you want things to work fully in 3 years time use 365
