MOOCs (Massively Open Online Courses) are online courses available to anyone with internet access. They can benefit students by supplementing AP classes and helping further student learning. MOOCs capitalize on connected learning principles since students already use online media like videos and blogs to support their interests. They allow educators to rethink their curriculum and instructional strategies. MOOCs are a great resource tool for motivated students and teachers, though their best application in K-12 is helping high-achieving students get ahead.

MOOC?
A MOOC is a massively open online course, which is available to anyone with
Internet access no matter where they are located.

this affect our
students?
Many schools and teachers
are bringing in MOOCs to
help further their AP
students and classes, but
they are not exclusively only
for AP students and all
students can benefit from
MOOCs.

4. Why bring in
MOOCs?
“One of the reasons that MOOCs have gained
prominence in both the literature and in practice is
because they capitalize on connected learning principles.
We already live and work in a networked society. We
draw on videos, blogs, tweets, paper, digital print, and
other media to support our interests, needs, and goals.
MOOCs can provide a way for educators to begin to re-
shape and re-think their curriculum and their instructional
strategies”
