2. What is a MOOC?
A MOOC is a massive open online course on different
topics—varying from the sciences and finance to music,
humanities and information technology, offered for free via
the web by top performing universities around the world.
MOOCs can answer and provide data for developing world
institutions to review their teaching and learning practices for
better quality and outcomes.
Anyone with a computer, tablet or smart phone and Internet
broadband connection can register with MOOC groups using
an e-mail. Each student may choose to sign up for as many
subjects he or she wants.
3. MOOCs in Schools
A teacher can use moocs to search and look up
work, they find hard to explain to the learners. It
can also be used to provide information for the
learners and as a guideline for the teacher.
Technology make the life of a teacher easier.
Teachers can release videos on a weekly basis.
Most courses have about two hours of video
lectures per week. A learner can access videos for
the current week and previous weeks.
5. Moocs were used as a online source in
universities, but expanded and everyone
can make use of this technology. It was
created to expand learning . Tutors,
teachers, lecturers and learners can use
MOOCS to expand learning.
6. MOOC is within networks that learning can
generate quite interesting experiences. This
leads us to the raise of MOOCs. The first
MOOC was launched in 2008. It was called
‘Connectivism and Connective
Knowledge/2008’ (CCK8), created by
educators Stephen Downes and George
Siemens. Building off a for-credit course at
the University of Manitoba, Canada, this was
the first class designed behind the acronym
of ‘MOOC’ and used many different platforms
to engage students with the topic, including
Facebook groups, Wiki pages, blogs, forums
and other resources.

9. As an English teacher, the best type of
MOOC I can use for interacting with
learners is xMOOC. It will provide
learners with an opportunity to reflect on
lessons and share opinions on ideas
that came about in lessons.
10. Learners will be able to argue about
different social ill, for instance, poverty in
their communities, HIV and AIDS, crime,
just to name a few. This will help raise
arguments and debates in class thus the
information shared will help with the
brainstorming of ideas for their essays.
