The new scrubber uses technology that was developed for land based incineration systems.
specialized in removing PM and acid gases from the exhaust gas from incineration plants.
The original idea was that the exhaust gas was accelerated through orifice openings which produced millions of highly turbulent mixing zones downstream of the orifice.
The advantage of this was that there was no packing involved in the scrubber design, so there is nothing to plug.
The disadvantage was that there was a high pressure drop required on the exhaust gas side which would result in a high pressure blower required to prevent a back pressure on the engine.
The new design replaces the pressure drop on the gas side with a higher pressure drop in the wash water injection nozzles.
KEY POINTS OF NEW SCRUB CO. PM SCRUBBER SYSTEM
The higher pressure drop produces 3 effects:
1. The injected water is broken up into much smaller droplets at this higher pressure, resulting in more surface area for scrubbing.
2. The droplets leave the nozzle at a much higher velocity than the gas stream, producing better mixing 3. The droplets leave the nozzle at a much higher velocity than the gas stream, producing an eduction effect in the scrubber. This reduces the pressure drop across the scrubber.
If we look at the scrubber systems presently available, the main differences with the new design are as follows:
a. The quench section is contained inside the scrubber shell, reducing space requirements
b. The majority of the quench section is manufactured in GRE pipework, a less expensive material compared to the alloys used in existing designs.
c. Depending on the size it would be possible to build the shell of the scrubber also in GRE.
d. The design has no packing to plug. The mass transfer is obtained using higher injection pressure at the spray nozzles.
e. The de-mister is a "vane" design, which is less likely to plug compared to the wire mesh used in existing designs.
f. The water treatment plant is a pressurized design, which could result in the elimination of Return Pumps which are required in existing designs

State insurance agency ridesharing warnings: Rhode island consumer alertHarrison Weber
The Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation Insurance Division issued a consumer alert about potential insurance gaps for Rhode Island residents participating in ride-sharing programs like Lyft and UberX. Drivers for these programs may not have valid insurance coverage since most personal auto policies exclude coverage for driving passengers for hire. Ride-sharing drivers need to contact their insurance agents to ensure they have proper commercial coverage, and also need to be licensed as for-hire transportation services through the Rhode Island Division of Public Utilities and Carriers. Passengers also risk lack of coverage if they are injured in an accident with an uninsured ride-sharing driver.

This document discusses various types of auto insurance coverage including liability coverage, personal injury protection, uninsured motorist coverage, medical payments coverage, collision coverage, and comprehensive coverage. It explains what each type of coverage protects against and things for drivers to consider when determining coverage limits and deductibles, such as their risk tolerance and financial ability to pay out of pocket expenses. The document stresses that state minimum coverage requirements may not provide adequate protection and recommends drivers evaluate their individual needs to ensure they have sufficient coverage.
Motor insurance provides protection against physical damage and liability arising from traffic collisions. It is mandatory in India to insure vehicles before driving them. Insurance protects one's life, money, and liability to third parties in case of an accident. Key factors that determine insurance premiums include the age of the driver, driving history, vehicle make, occupation, and location. There are two main types of motor insurance policies - third party liability only policies and comprehensive policies that also cover damage to the insured vehicle. Comprehensive policies cover various risks while excluding normal wear and tear, mechanical breakdown, and losses resulting from illegal activity.
Motor insurance provides protection against physical damage and liability arising from traffic collisions. It is mandatory in India to insure vehicles before driving them. Insurance protects one's life, money, and liability to third parties by covering expenses in case of an accident. Premiums are decided based on factors like age, driving history, vehicle type, location, etc. Policies can be liability-only or comprehensive. Comprehensive policies provide coverage for damages from various causes while liability covers third party liability. Exclusions include contractual liability, war/nuclear risks, driving under influence. A case study describes an insurance company unjustifiably delaying and rejecting a claim for a stolen car.
This document provides an overview of motor insurance policies in India. It discusses key aspects such as:
- The two main types of motor insurance policies - liability only and package policies. Liability only is mandatory under Indian law.
- Factors that determine premium rates like insured declared value, cubic capacity, vehicle age, and geographical zone. Higher premiums are charged for vehicles with more capacity, older age, and in certain zones.
- Perils covered by motor insurance like fire, theft, earthquake, floods, etc. The policy names specific risks covered.
- Key terminology used in motor policies like no-claim bonus discounts, voluntary deductibles discounts, and endorsements that modify coverage.
Bill 15 aims to reform Ontario's tow truck and auto insurance industries by creating greater regulatory oversight of towing and storage practices. It would establish rules to prevent unethical conduct like kickbacks between tow truck drivers and repair shops. The bill also seeks to reduce auto insurance costs by lowering payouts for legal fees, assessments, and bodily injury claims, in order to lower premiums for most policyholders who do not make claims. Overall, Bill 15 introduces protections for consumers and aims to reduce auto insurance rates in Ontario.
Auto insurance protects against financial losses from automobile accidents and ownership. To obtain a policy, one pays a premium, and the insurance company agrees to cover costs according to the policy terms. Given rising healthcare and repair costs, affordable auto insurance is important. Insurers consider factors like age, driving record, vehicle type, location, and credit score to assess risk and set premiums. Researching these factors can help obtain appropriate coverage at a reduced cost.
Automobile insurance is important because car accidents are common and even minor accidents can result in thousands of dollars in damages. An auto insurance policy is a contract where the policyholder pays a premium in exchange for the insurance company covering specific financial losses related to car accidents and incidents. Factors like age, gender, vehicle type, driving record, location, and more are used to determine individual premium rates and assess risk for the insurance company. Maintaining good grades and being a safe driver can help lower insurance costs over time.

"Does Foreign Direct Investment Negatively Affect Preservation of Culture in the Global South? Case Studies in Thailand and Cambodia."
Do elements of globalization, such as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), negatively affect the ability of countries in the Global South to preserve their culture? This research aims to answer this question by employing a cross-sectional comparative case study analysis utilizing methods of difference. Thailand and Cambodia are compared as they are in the same region and have a similar culture. The metric of difference between Thailand and Cambodia is their ability to preserve their culture. This ability is operationalized by their respective attitudes towards FDI; Thailand imposes stringent regulations and limitations on FDI while Cambodia does not hesitate to accept most FDI and imposes fewer limitations. The evidence from this study suggests that FDI from globally influential countries with high gross domestic products (GDPs) (e.g. China, U.S.) challenges the ability of countries with lower GDPs (e.g. Cambodia) to protect their culture. Furthermore, the ability, or lack thereof, of the receiving countries to protect their culture is amplified by the existence and implementation of restrictive FDI policies imposed by their governments.
My study abroad in Bali, Indonesia, inspired this research topic as I noticed how globalization is changing the culture of its people. I learned their language and way of life which helped me understand the beauty and importance of cultural preservation. I believe we could all benefit from learning new perspectives as they could help us ideate solutions to contemporary issues and empathize with others.

A toxic combination of 15 years of low growth, and four decades of high inequality, has left Britain poorer and falling behind its peers. Productivity growth is weak and public investment is low, while wages today are no higher than they were before the financial crisis. Britain needs a new economic strategy to lift itself out of stagnation.
Scotland is in many ways a microcosm of this challenge. It has become a hub for creative industries, is home to several world-class universities and a thriving community of businesses – strengths that need to be harness and leveraged. But it also has high levels of deprivation, with homelessness reaching a record high and nearly half a million people living in very deep poverty last year. Scotland won’t be truly thriving unless it finds ways to ensure that all its inhabitants benefit from growth and investment. This is the central challenge facing policy makers both in Holyrood and Westminster.
What should a new national economic strategy for Scotland include? What would the pursuit of stronger economic growth mean for local, national and UK-wide policy makers? How will economic change affect the jobs we do, the places we live and the businesses we work for? And what are the prospects for cities like Glasgow, and nations like Scotland, in rising to these challenges?
