A mock interview is a practice interview that allows job seekers to prepare for an actual interview by simulating the experience. It provides feedback to help candidates improve their communication skills, confidence, and ability to answer potential questions. Candidates should research the company, prepare answers for common questions, and have questions prepared. Mock interviews help practice responding to questions like "tell me about yourself" or industry-specific questions. For one mock interview, a candidate researched the BBC and pitched a new TV program idea based on a book to receive feedback on their presentation skills and ability to answer follow up questions about their proposal.

A mock interview is also known as a practice interview and is a simulation of an actual
job interview. It allows job seekers to prepare and practise for an interview while
receiving feedback for their interview. A mock interview help you to:
• Improve confidence for real interview
• Receive feedback
• Helps calm nerves
• Helps the candidates prepare for potential questions
• Improve their communication skills
• See the structure of how an interview should be run

3. How To Prepare For An Interview?

Before taking part In the interview there are a few things that should be taken into
consideration before taking part in the interview.
• Have a positive attitude towards the interview
• Research into company/ industry that the interview is for
• Prepare for common interview questions
• Prepare questions for the interviewer
• Be confident in yourself/ answers
• Examine the job description
• Tie back your answers back to your skills
• Give the interviewer your full attention

In mock interviews it is important for the interviewer to take into consideration some popular and unpopular
questions that may be asked in a real interview. Some of the questions that may be asked are:
• Tell me about yourself
• Why do you want this job?
• What would you bring to the company?
• What are your strengths?
• What skills can you bring to the company?
• Name a situation where you’ve had to work in a team
• Why do you want to do this job
Media related:
• Why do you want to work in the media industry?
• What sector of the industry do you want to work in?
• Have you met any relevant people within the industry?
• What sector of the industry do you specialise in?
• What interests you about the industry?

Before taking part in any interview the candidate should always look into the company that they are applying for
this would be for:
• To see if the company is the right fit for the candidate
• To allow the employer to see that you are interested in their company
• Learn valuable information about their company and what they do
For my mock interview, I looked into the BBC beforehand as David from the BBC who deals with apprenticeships
within the company. We were given a brief to create a new programme idea for the channel and present it to him
and gain feedback off him.
The BCC is the world’s leading public services broadcasts, which was established on the 18th of October 1922,
London England. The BBC covers a range of genres from horror, reality TV, teen drama, thriller and comedy, due to
the wide range of genres available the BBC has a weekly viewer audience of over 364 million.

6. BBC Pitch

For our mock interview we had to create a show idea to pitch to David Longsworth, from this we received feedback
on our pitches. I decided to create a show idea of a TV adaptation of a book called ‘Nothing More To Tell’. In this
pitch I took into consideration: what channel it would stream on, what time of day, who would play the characters
and who it would appeal to. After presenting the pitch I was asked questions by David about specific parts of my
pitch.
Some of the questions I was asked were:
• How many episodes would the show be?
• Who would write the screenplay?
• What time would it stream on TV?
• How can you encourage your target audience to get off their phones and read?
