2. Introduction
• This is my evaluation for the B1 personal
progression unit. In this unit we had to
focus on our inspirations and aspirations in
the media industry. We also had to work on
our brand identity such as logos business
cards. As well as this we had to talk about
our plans for after college whether that be
going into higher education or an
apprenticeship or work. We also made CV’s
that would help us get jobs in the industry.
In this post I will be talking about these
different topics and what they are and how
they benefited me.
3. Inspirations in the industry
• I started this unit by looking into industry inspirations this is people in
the media industry that I look up too. I chose to investigate 3 people in
the media industry, and I focused on their careers, what job they have
in the media industry. I also spoke about the work (tv and film) that they
produced because each of the people I researched into were either a
producer or director. I researched into Vince Gillian who is a producer
and director and his best known for his TV show breaking bad. I chose
to investigate Vince as I am a fan of breaking bad and I appreciate the
detail within the story. After I researched into RuPaul Charles who is
the producer of many shows but most notably RuPaul’s drag race
which is an Emmy award winning show. I chose to investigate RuPaul
and his career because I think the work, he has done for the LGBTQ+
community and he has also brought the art of drag into the public eye
and made it something that isn’t looked down upon. The final person
that I investigated was director Quinton Tarantino, who has won
multiple awards for his films over the years including a BAFTA and a
golden globe award.
4. Career goals in the industry
• After looking into my industry inspirations, I
started to investigate my possible job in the
media industry that I would be interested in. I
researched into what the job role is, what their
salary is and what skills you would need for that
job. For example, when I researched into a
camera operator I found out that they work
closely with the rest of the production crew and
therefore must have good communication and
listening skills. I also found out the average
Almaty of a camera operator in the uk.
5. Higher education
• After finishing my research into the industry this
led me to research into my higher education
opportunities which would create better career
path for me in the media industry. Before
applying for university, I researched into some
courses that interested me and what the
courses where about. I also only looked at
universities that’s where in the northeast as
these I would be staying at home for university.
I also research to UCAS and how the UCAS
points system works, this helped me get a
better understanding of what grades I would
need to achieve this year in order to pursue
one of the courses that I applied for.
6. UCAS and personal statements
After researching into different courses and universities it was time to
apply. I used UCAS to apply for university with UCAS you can apply for
5 course. While filling out your application you must complete a
personal statement which is a brief summary of yourself and your
academic history. A personal statement must be kept under 4000
characters. I done multiple drafts of my personal statement in order
to improve it. A personal statement is usually split into 5 paragraphs
the first paragraph is normally where you introduce yourself and talk
about why you are passionate about your chosen subject. In the
second paragraph you mostly speak about how college and your
chosen course at college has helped prepare you for higher
education. In the third paragraph you could talk about work
experience or volunteer work and how those helped you develop
useful skills. In the fourth paragraph you can talk about your hobby's
and personal interests. Finally you can finish your personal statement
with a conclusion that is a summary of everything that you have just
said.
7. Constructing a logo
• I made my logo on website called
looka it was very straight forward to
use and had lots of different icons. It
was important to have a logo as it
helps people recognise my brand. I
done multiple drafts of my logo but I
chose to use my final version as it
looks the most professional and the
feedback that I got on that logo was
the best
8. Business cards
• I wanted to incorporate my previous logo into my
business card I also chose to have my business
card fit the same colour scheme as my logo. My
business card creatures useful information such
as my contact information.
9. Analysing
digital profiles
• In this post I spoke about what a
digital profile is and I analysed
two peoples digital profile this
helped me get a better
understanding of what a digital
profile is and why it is important
to have a good digital profile.
10. Create Britain
• Create Britain is a online space for people
in the media industry to network with
each other. I made my own create Britain
account so that it would create a space
where I could network with others and it is
space to show my work. My create Britain
has links to my social media and to my
contact information. Create Britain has a
space where you can show your work as
well this makes it easier for others to see
what type of work you do.
11. Showreel
• A showreel is a short video that shows
some of your best work in my showreel I
had a mixture of videos and photography. I
edited the video on premier pro, I wanted
to use premiere pro as it is a industry,
standard editing software. My showreel
lasts for 2 minutes I wanted to keep it short
so that the audience would not loose
interest in it. I also used copyright free
music, the music I used also kept the
audience entertained. I know this because I
asked for feedback on each draft of my
showreel.
12. Mock interview and BBC pitch
• I looked into interview techniques
to help me prepare for my mock
pitch with the BBC. In my mock
pitch we had to pitch and idea for
a tv show on the BBC. I pitched an
idea for a competition reality
show. I think it was really useful to
do the pitch as it gave a glimpse at
what questions they ask in a real
pitch.
13. Networking
• Networking is when you
communicate with other
people in your chosen industry
to be able to expand your
contacts. This year I networked
with many different people
such as David Putnam who is a
film producer, Leo peal man
from Fullwell 73 a production
company and lee axon from
Digifin who is a Filmer
photographer and drone pilot.
14. Work experience
• I completed my work experience at Young
Asian Voices which is a youth organisation in
Sunderland, while at yav we worked on a
project which was a short 5 minute long film
about Christmas. We came up with plot of the
short film and the made the script and the
storyboards. After we filmed the footage and
recorded the voice over shortly after.

15. Conclusion
• In conclusion I am happy with the work I have done for this unit
and think the work has really benefited me for example I know
feel prepared to take my next steps into university. I also
enjoyed making a logo and business card as I feel like not only
did it help me with my technical skills it was also very useful to
have and helps make my brand look more professional. Mu
showreel was also a good opportunity to make something that
is useful to me as I now have a video of all of my best work but
making it also was good as I got to expand my technical editing
skills on premier pro. Having lots of networking opportunities
where good as I got to meat and hear from lots of people in the
media industry.
