APIs are increasingly being used by city authorities around the world to connect and share their data. This presentation describes five case studies of how third party developers are leveraging the API advantage to create viable business models. The presentation will summarize case studies across public transport, open 311, urban planning, citizen engagement, and crime prevention. The presentation will document a success matrix, describing the common factors that are making it possible for third party developers to create viable business models by leveraging smart city APIs.

Creating standalone apps is fun! Think angry bird. But once you want to connect to a enterprise backend and provide enterprise grade security (think a bank app), the mobile app developer productivity starts dropping. Using IBM MobileFirst Platform Foundation Server you can rapidly develop secure mobile apps. The MFP server can be on prem or on the cloud on Bluemix Docker Containers

APIs are driving business opportunities, but there's a lot that needs to be done to create a solid foundation for your API strategy. This presentation explains how.
Designing Usable APIs featuring Forrester Research, Inc.CA API Management
Deliver a Great Developer Experience (DX) as Part of an Effective API Strategy
Overview
Designing a great enterprise API is not easy. Exposing an interface is relatively simple but API designers have a great deal more to think about – business models, process context, transactional integrity, privacy concerns, data ownership… the list goes on.
For enterprise API designers, a clear focus on developer experience (DX) is often the best way to get things moving in the right direction. Creating an API that developers love to use will produce a wealth of benefits for any API program, such as:
Increasing API adoption rates
Reducing implementation costs
Ensuring the program is aligned with core business goals
Join this webinar with Ronnie Mitra of Layer 7 and guest speaker Randy Heffner of Forrester Research, Inc. to get practical tips on building APIs that will provide a great DX and truly contribute to your organization’s business success.
You Will Learn
What the term “well-designed API” means, in practical terms
Why developer experience matters and how it aligns with business goals
How to make rational design choices that will improve DX

My talk for the CodeTalks Commerce Edition, April 19 and 20 2016 in Berlin.
I explore the possibilities of APIs and API only products, explaining what APIs are, how one can participate in the API Economy, and what do look out for when selecting API products to power an e-commerce organisation
The 90s were disruptive for traditional business models in the race for a web presence, today, application programming interfaces (APIs) are the new must-have for the companies to their customers and community. What has changed? Social Networks, Social Commerce, Social Content and the extensions of that: Facebook, Twitter, Amazon and eBay, leading us to the generational culture of "simple": User Applications Intelligent and targeted conveyed by Apple, Android, and other Store. Mobile devices are the new appendix and our applications are the currency of exchange….
Business Challenges Solved by APIs: What Every Executive Should KnowElastic Path
It seems like everyone either has or needs an API these days. Analysts are touting how critical it is for businesses to engage their customers across every touchpoint. APIs are supposed to fuel innovation for these new applications, new channels, and, ultimately, new ways to generate revenue.
But getting your API strategy off the ground could be more difficult than it sounds. Even with the right strategy and architecture, there are very real technical challenges in your way.
Join API experts from Elastic Path Software as well as API Evangelist Kin Lane for a frank discussion on the current state of APIs.
Capgemini Connected Car Demo Using IBM Internet of Things Foundation on BluemixCapgemini
Does the buzz about IBM Internet of Things (IoT) and Bluemix makes you curious to see some real-world demos and implementations?
IBM and Capgemini are going to show you the future of vehicle technology, focusing on different ways in which vehicles can be connected using IoT and IBM Bluemix. We’ll demo an app named “Follow your Friend” that lets you connect with and exchange GPS positions with other vehicles.
We’ll also demo “Geofence” for location-based marketing: it knows about the drivers’ needs as they drive and informs retailers about potential customers, so they can push offers to their customer’s vehicle devices (or mobile devices) as they drive by.
Presented at IBM InterConnect 2015 by Capgemini's Avinash Vaidya.
Deliver New Customer Experiences Through AI-enabled ChatbotsAmazon Web Services
Chatbots allow companies to mimic human conversations with their customers. Built upon artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), they provide instantly available support that is adaptive to user needs and improves with use over time.
Learn how organizations are leveraging this new technology to improve customer engagement by better tailoring their marketing efforts, while at the same time reducing costs and overhead.
Deloitte Digital will showcase their conversational chatbot solution built on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and utilizing Amazon Lex. Discover how companies can rapidly build a proof of concept prior to integrating, launching, and rapidly scaling them to the market.

I’m just going to give an overview of mobile-first strategy. I’ll reserve most of the time for discussion. This slide or the next one will be the last slide I am planning to show. I left some slides about Twitter and crowdsourcing to follow these slides if the questions take us in one of those directions.
The next several slides will illustrate points from my February case study of how @statesman used Twitter effectively in the story of the terrorist plane crash into the IRS building in Austin, using material from people in the community on mobile devices.
I’ll mention Ushahidi as a new tool with great possibilities for mobile engagement.
I’ll discuss how TBD’s Mandy Jenkins is developing Crowdmaps to gather information from our mobile community.
