It contains information on the mineral nutrition of of plants. the food of plants. it is very important for a student, especially middle school. it is not lenghthy and complicated and it contains only 5 slides.
2. DEFINITION
IT IS THE STUDY OF THE SOURCES, MODE OF
ABSORPTION AND UTILISATION OF MINERALS BY
THE PLANTS FOR THEIR GROWTH, DEVELOPMENT
AND OTHER PHYSIOLOGICAL PROCESSES.
SOME OF THE MINERAL ARE ESSENTIAL FOR THE
STRUCTURE AND PHYSIOLOGY OF PLANTS AND
WITHOUT THEM PLANTS CANNOT COMPLETE THEIR
LIFE CYCLE.
3. MICRONUTRIENTS
• Macronutrients: These nutrients are needed
by the plants in larger amounts.
• Nitrogen, potassium, calcium, etc. are the
macronutrients.
MACRONUTRIENTS
• Micronutrients: These nutrients needed by
the plants in small amounts.
• Iron, zinc, manganese, etc. are the
examples of micronutrients.
• Iron is actually a micro nutrient, but it is also
involved in the process of photosynthesis
and in the development of chloroplast.
Therefore, it is often regarded as a
macronutrient..
• THE ESSENTIALS NUTRIENTS ARE OF TWO BASIC TYPES – – –
MACRONUTRIENTS AND MICRONUTRIENTS.
4. AUTOTROPHIC NUTRITION IN PLANTS
• “Autotrophic nutrition is a process where an organism prepares its own
food from a simple inorganic material like water, mineral salts and
carbon dioxide in the presence of sunlight.” The term “autotrophic” is
formed by the combination of two terms, “auto” meaning self, and “trophic”
meaning nutrition.
