The QNX Photon MicroGUI was a technological feat in its time. It gained popularity in the mid-1990's when QNX released a 1.44Mb bootable floppy with the QNX Operating System, the Photon GUI, networking, web browser, file browser, and several demo applications.
QNX continued to develop and support Photon through 2014, but as GUI development systems matured — and users' expectations for GUIs increased — Blackberry's QNX is now focusing on the basics of drawing to the screen (e.g. QNX Screen) and left other aspects of Graphical User Interfaces to those who do it best (e.g. Qt)
This presentation would be of particular interest to people looking to upgrade their software from an existing Photon system to Qt. It discusses the differences and similarities between the Photon and Qt application development platforms and how one may migrate from one to the other.
OpenGL is a powerful, low-level graphics toolkit with a steep learning curve that allows access to accelerated GPU hardware. Using OpenGL, developers achieve high fidelity, animated graphics ubiquitous in games, screen productions and scientific software.
Join us for a one-hour webinar and we will give a comprehensive overview of the many aspects of OpenGL development where Qt provides advanced interfaces that let the developer focus on the tasks instead of dealing with repetitive and error-prone, platform dependent issues.
This presentation covers rarely discussed topics of porting Qt to a new smartphone platform. Goals, strategies, and technical challenges will be discussed.
Qt is a cross-platform application framework that is widely used for developing application software with a graphical user interface.
Qt for Tizen is a community-driven port of Qt 5 to Tizen smartphones and possibly cars, tablets and notebooks. It brings the legendary programming experience of Qt to Tizen application developers.
We’re sure you’ve heard by now about the release of Qt 6.0 — but are you ready? Join the conversation with our Qt Engineers to discuss the present and future of Qt 6. Ranging from API updates to porting tips, we’ll save you valuable time by giving a shortcut overview of changes that have made it into this first version.

Back by popular demand, we invite you to another informative webinar on OpenGL, a powerful, low-level graphics toolkit allowing access to accelerated GPU and hardware. Learn the many aspects of OpenGL development where Qt provides advanced interfaces to let developers focus on tasks instead of dealing with repetitive and error-prone, platform dependent issues.
This revised version the OpenGL webinar from last summer, will present information on the differences and the upgrade possibilities available for Qt-OpenGL applications converting from Qt 4x to Qt 5. In addition, we will touch upon best practices when converting legacy, fixed pipeline applications to modern OpenGL using Qt5.
Performance is a key component of usability and crucial for the user experience, especially in today's modern user interfaces where graphical elements are being animated and transitioned. Bringing Qt Everywhere means a significant need for speed across desktop and embedded platforms. This presentation will give you a brief overview of performance improvements done in Qt, and will be highly interactive with hands-on sessions on how to squeeze every last drop of performance out of your Qt application.

Creating Advanced GUIs for Low-power MCUs with QtICS
Microcontrollers, often referred to as MCUs, are used in a growing array of systems and devices, including vehicles, robots, medical devices, industrial automation and home appliances. MCU hardware is introducing touchscreens to more devices with great low-cost electronics. But building rich graphical user interfaces on MCUs can be challenging, especially when given limited development time and resources.
This webinar is for software teams considering to develop and design UIs for MCUs. We will cover:
User experience tips in an MCU world
Visual design tricks to allow you to optimize early
Software development in Qt for MCUs and how to make it all reality
From UX designers to software developers, everyone will learn some tricks to avoid pitfalls that will slow your product development.
Qt uses native style APIs on each supported platform, however there are some additional tricks you can use to make sure your Qt-based application looks, feels and behaves better. This presentation will run through examples, tips and ticks to help you make your applications look great on all platforms.

Since the 1980s, Motif has been a popular toolkit for developing graphical desktop applications. Despite its age, legacy applications written using the Motif toolkit are still in production. There are a number of reasons to migrate these applications to newer platforms. Porting Motif applications to the Qt framework can achieve many of the benefits without requiring a total rewrite. In this webinar we'll look at scenarios, strategies, and general advice for porting Motif applications to Qt, based on the wide experience ICS has gained over many Motif to Qt conversion projects.
Driving Down Automotive Costs for Richer HMIs with Qt & i.MX RT1170Qt
Automotive HMI solutions traditionally require complicated hardware and extensive architecture to accomplish every goal. In the world of microcontrollers (MCU), we can create dedicated systems to fit the requirements together with richer and snappier graphical user interfaces (GUIs). This reduces development time, cost and also distributes specialized parts of the system into separate hardware units.
Join us to start creating richer UIs with specialized parts of the system with a dual-core architecture.
We will cover:
- An introduction to Qt for MCUs, Qt Quick Ultralite runtime
- APIs to accelerate your next scalable HMI application
- Challenges creating vehicle solutions and why NXP i.MX RT1170 MCUs
- Rapid prototyping embedded GUIs on the hardware
- Distribution of system responsibilities between two cores
- Handling CAN bus on secondary core and passing the data between two cores.
Attendees will find the final dual-core architecture design using Qt for MCUs running on NXP i.MX RT1170 for optimized speed and power consumption. Take a sneak peek!

Software Development Best Practices: Separating UI from Business LogicICS
One of the most effective software engineering approaches involves separating the user interface (frontend) from the business logic (backend), especially when it comes to developing embedded-devices. This practice makes it far easier to code for a single specific functionality versus coding an overall product.
In this webinar we’ll explain not only what’s involved in separating the UI from business logic in your next Qt project, but explore some of the key benefits of this approach, including:
Parallel development
Modularity
Enhanced testability
Accelerated development
Architecture that easily accommodates future changes
We’ll also touch on a few of the drawbacks, chief among them the need to implement new strategies for independent testing, build and deployment — tasks that take extra time and resources

Graspan: A Big Data System for Big Code AnalysisAftab Hussain
We built a disk-based parallel graph system, Graspan, that uses a novel edge-pair centric computation model to compute dynamic transitive closures on very large program graphs.
We implement context-sensitive pointer/alias and dataflow analyses on Graspan. An evaluation of these analyses on large codebases such as Linux shows that their Graspan implementations scale to millions of lines of code and are much simpler than their original implementations.
These analyses were used to augment the existing checkers; these augmented checkers found 132 new NULL pointer bugs and 1308 unnecessary NULL tests in Linux 4.4.0-rc5, PostgreSQL 8.3.9, and Apache httpd 2.2.18.
