Essay On The South African War
The war that occurred in South Africa from 1899 to 1902 has had several names throughout
history. Often, the title depends on who is discussing the war and on what side of the war they
were fighting for during the conflict. Several of these names include the Boer War, the Second
War of Liberation, the Anglo Boer War, and the South African War. Many historians today believe
that it should be referred to as the South African War, so as to include everyone who resided in
the South African region at that time. The conflict should be called the South African war as it
was not simply a war between white British and white Boers because there were many different
people and races involved and affected, including African workers, and foreigners who came to
work in the mines in the Transvaal.
The War in South Africa resulted from many different issues between the British Empireand the
Dutch, or the Boers. Two of the primary sources of conflict during the war were the diamond and
gold mines found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Black South Africans were the majority population and they were caught up in the white man s
war, or a gentlemen s war . The high number of black Africans in the British concentration camps
shows just one of the ways that the black and colored communities suffered from this war which is
considered to be the most devastating war in South African history .
On May 31st, 1902, the Boer s had surrendered to the British and signed the Treaty of Vereeniging
at Pretoria. The next years were spent negotiating peace and the future of the now British colony,
South Africa. A new governmental system had to be developed so to include the now four
provinces of the British colony. Also, there were many political changes, including the
establishment of three new South African capitals, located in the Pretoria, Cape Town, and

The War Showing No Signs Of Ending, The Watergate Scandal...
Davis Hinshaw Mrs Weide American History II 4 December 2016 The 1980s With the cold war
showing no signs of ending, the watergate scandal and the vietnam war it was no surprise that
the 1980s were a complete explosion of counterculture and mistrust in the government. The
election of former actor Ronald Reagan kickstarted the 1980s with his optimistic ideas he
appealed to many americans. He was running against former president Jimmy Carter, Reagan
won the election with 51% of electoral vote. He promised to work to get the US government out
of people s everyday lives and provide major tax cuts. These ideas won the support of many
throughout the US. The 1980s was the birthplace of a new era, an era of moviegoers and people
who loved to watch tv. At the end of the 1980s 60% of the population had cable TV. Movies such
as E.T., Back To The Future and The Breakfast Club all debuted in the 1980s. One major
contribution to TV being so popular was MTV because it went against the norm and showed all
kinds of music. MTV had a large span of artist that consist of Guns N Roses, Metallica, Public
Enemy, and many more. MTV was a way for people to get their unsaid feeling out without having
to face backlash. The 1980s experienced many things that have lasted through decades and are
even still around today, such as personal computers, MTV, and cell phones. The 1980s was a major
contributor in shaping the way the US and even the world is today. Some of the most impactful

The Nature Of Love By Harry Harlow
Harry Harlow was labeled as a man with a desire for learning about what he presumed love to be
and consequently, dedicated his later career to the subject. Life presented him with ups and downs
yet, he pursued his research with a vigor. He developed notions about the concepts of affection in
contrast to bodily needs and what could possibly derive from one not receiving love. This guided
him to establish observational research methods to study his ideas via the use of infant primates
which, yielded both positive and negative outcomes. Harlow s article titled, The Nature of Love,
relayed his explorations and discoveries, along with his future ideas. Harlow supposedly had a
quiet and uneventful childhood, and his exhibited traits of big ambitions eventually led him to
earn a Ph.D. from Stanford University. With respect to his personal life, Harlow s initial
marriage ended when his wife left him due to his extreme dedication towards work, and his
second wife passed away from cancer. Professionally, Harlow s career took place when
behaviorism ruled the psychological field, and it was his controversial work that made him well
known amongst his community. He was not intimidated by the status quo and thus, conducted
experiments with primates to study the unchartered territory of affection. However, after the death
of his second wife, Harlow had become distraught and depressed. His career started to falter, and he
eventually retired in 1973 (Harry Harlow, 2014). Harlow

copyrights in general do not need a copyright notice for works published after March 1, 1989.
Answer (c) is incorrect because a recent court ruled that programs in both source codes, which are
human readable, and in machine readable object code can be copyrighted. Answer (d) is incorrect

Answer (c) is incorrect because Summers offer was rejected by Fox s counteroffer. Answer (d)
is incorrect because with rare exceptions, silence does not constitute acceptance. 3.(c)Peters offer
had been revoked. Since revocation notice can be received either directly or indirectly, Mason,
in effect, received the revocation notice when he was told the mower had been sold to Bronson;
and therefore, Mason s acceptance was ineffective, even though the specified time of the oral
contract had not expired. Peters offer had been revoked prior to Mason s acceptance. There was
no obligation on the part of Peters to keep the offer open, since there was no consideration for
him to do so. CHAPTER 14 CAPACITY AND GENUINE ASSENT 1.(a)Where a mistake is

The Influence Of Popsicle Sticks
So for my math activity I choose to pick an easy 1st grade activity, and I am interested in teaching
1st grade. The activity requires the teacher to get Popsicle sticks, write on them from 1 20 and on
the other the plus, minus and equal signs. And do addition and subtraction using those Popsicle
sticks. The general principle of development states that all people develop at different rates, for
some students this will be an easy task, they are more mature in their thinking, and they are above
the average. Some students will struggle, they will be much slower in development and because of
that it can affect their schoolstudies. Also people development is in an order, the advanced student
will most likely be doing well in all other subjects,

Sammy In A P
Sammy is a teenage boy and main character of John Updike s short story A P . The story takes
place in a A P market outside of Boston. The young protagonist leads an uneventful life as a
cashier of the A P. Sammy spends his days observing the shoppers (sheep) of A P. Sammy is a
regular teenage boy, who falls under the spell of a girl he calls Queenie. She throws Sammy off
so much that he gives up his job for a chance to talk to her and to be her hero. Everyday, Sammy
stands at his cash register watching as the herd of sheep do their shopping. He observes their
movement with care and knows the patterns of the group of A P customers. He notices a trio of

She is obviously the leader of the other girls and more experience one. Sammy mentions that she
was teaching them how to do it, walk slow and hold yourself straight. (33) She has what seems to
be an unshakable confidence. She walks with a swagger that throws off Sammy. His usual skill
in observing and analyzing people is disrupted by her. His description of the girls goes on for
about a quarter of the story. He is starstruck by the girls. Stokesie and him turn into pigs by the
girl. They say Oh Daddy. Stokesie said beside me. I feel so faint. Darling, I said. Hold me tight.
(34) They both gawk at the girls as they mutter sexually inspired whispers at the checkout lanes..
In their defense this story takes place in the middle of town five miles from the beach during the
1950s. The attire that the girls are wearing is very unusual for that time period especially so far
from the beach. The time period this story takes place is very conservative. It is also a time of
very strict conformity. Sammy sees the conformity and he hates it. The whole time he narrates the
story he compares the shoppers to farm animals. He acknowledges his conformity when he quits
and talks about the uniform. He is aware that he is a part of the corporate structure and just one of
the pawns. When he quits he not only does it for the girls, but he does it for

Chimney Sweepers Poem Comparison
Comparison/Contrast Essay
The Chimney Sweepers (Songs of Innocence/Songs of Experience) are both poems about young
children who clean chimneys. The two poems while seemingly similar, are different in some ways.
Songs of Innocence starts with a very dark tone, but in the beginning of the fourth stanza there is a
tone change from dark to rescue/religion.
In Songs of Innocence the narrator begins to explain a dream that another chimney sweep had. Tom
Dacre, a child, was upset when they shaved his head but the soot could no longer spoil his white
hair. His head was shaved due to him contracting soot wart which is a cancer related to prolonged
exposure to the carcinogens of soot. Him and 3 other kids die and get put into coffins. (Tone

Major Themes In Tangerine
What is your favorite type of book? Romance, Adventure, Fantasy, etc.? Yet, these books don t only
contain the story, they contain themes that the wise listen to. Every story, every book, every tale,
and every movie have a purpose or a theme written mixed in with the plot the spice of writing. The
novel Tangerine, a book about the main character s(Paul) journey on figuring out how he got blind,
is no different. Edward Bloorwrote this book about the valuable and wise lesson about the theme,
seeing and not seeing. In this novel, there are many characters, such as Paul, and his parents, that

Now, there is one special type of seeing seeing into the future. Seeing into the future is not going
to a fake fortuneteller and asking them to see into the future, rather it means making important
choices by what is right, not what is easy. We wanted to find a way to keep you from always
hating your brother is one example where Paul s parent fail or are blind to see the effects. They
thought it would best not to punish Erick and have Paul hate himself for looking into a solar
eclipse their excuse on what happen to Paul s eyes. They were blind to see the ripples their
choice had on the timeline; it was the turning point in the timeline of the book. If they had
confronted Erick and punish him, much of the book wouldn t have happened. For example, Erick
would have never killed Lucius or done any robbery. Paul would have never had to live the life of
fear and intimadation, rather friendship and brotherhood with Erick. Just not making the right
choices, or not seeing into the future, you can ruin the life of your love ones. From now on, make
the right choices and live a good life or make the easy choices and suffer from the

Compare and contrast Alexander II and Alexander III Essay
Compare and contrast Alexander II and Alexander III
Although they were father and son, the reigns of Alexander II and Alexander III took off in
completely different directions. Alexander II was committed to his empire by vowing to reform
Russia, making it more in line with nineteenth century western society. His son, on the other hand,
was the unprepared tsar, whose actions were literally reactions to his father s unexpected
assassination. Consequently, Alexander II went down in history as much more productive in the
field of domestic policy; in dealing with revolutionaries; and in his foreign policy than his son Alex
III would ever be.
1855 was a tough time for Alexander II to take the throne. Russia was in the middle of a costly war

Alexander III s stance on domestic issues came as no surprise. As a youngster, he was tutored by
Konstantin Pobodonestev, a conservative, forceful man who strongly opposed Western ideology.
Pobodonestev s ideas and beliefs rubbed off on the young boy, and he blamed his father s liberal
minded reforms as the cause for his murder. Seeking to strengthen the autocracy, he gave officials
the power to declare a state of emergency, and to arrest or fine anyone unreliable. He also cleverly
cut off schools by setting up discriminatory admission rules, against women, poor families, and the
Jews. He then forced the expansion of Russian culture and language by forcing everyone in the
nation to speak, write, and think in Russian; otherwise known as Russification. Alexander III
preferred having as much control as possible over his people, something he did not have in
common with his father.
Despite all the work Alexander II did toward reforming Russia, the Era of Great Reforms left one
crucial aspect unaltered: the power of the emperor. The intentional neglect of this was what kept the
reforms from realizing their true potential. This led to dissatisfaction, which encouraged repression,
terror, and most importantly: revolution. The first was the Polish Rebellion, caused by the failure of
Russian authorities to suppress Polish nationalism. Although the Poles failed, other minorities
sprung up for their voice

elements included in the plot. (C) To emphasize, the most unbelievable element that the author
included in this book are the zombified humans and animals that are called eejits. (E) In detail,
when Tam Lin took Matt to the oasis for the first time they spotted an eejit that had died of thirst.
This then sparked the conversation in which Matt learns about what an eejit really is. To clarify
for Matt what the word eejit means, Tam Lin tells him, An eejit is a person or an animal with an

Media Activism And The UMM No DAPL Social Media Campaign
Media Activism and the UMM No DAPL Social Media Campaign
Media activism is using media and communication skills, mostly through technology, for social
and/or political movements. With the advancement of technology resulting in social media
formats, media activism has become more widespread. The rise of media activism in the world
has resulted in media activism becoming a type of public relations format. While there may seem
to be differences in the two, one can see the similarity in techniques used and bases of goals that
are trying to be obtained. This has made for a more open connection of the people then mass media
but in doing so has lost some clarity and potential audience in their public sphere. The main

For the interview videos they were short compared to mass media stories. They stayed at about 3
minutes or less to make the audience more willing to check the video out and stay watching till
the end. As the topics in media activism are more political or social in nature, the information
could be a turnoff for some people and the shortness of the videos combatted this through. Another
was formating the personal stories. For those we did big word headlines at the bottom and top of
the video to be eye catching. Media activism video materials tend to have this a lot as the words
hold key terms that either grab attention through what s this? or shock through what happened? to
their audience. This isn t seen in mass media as their corporate name will grab attention. On the
articles the pictures were more personal and sometimes radical to as to appeal to the activism

The Abnormal Role Of Flooding In New York City
A report by the New York Office of Emergency Management states that in the 1990 s the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineer found that New York City s low lying heavily populated neighborhoods
are more exposed to the threat of coastal flooding in a hurricane than was previously realized. This
projection was illuminated during Hurricanes Irene in 2011 and Sandy in 2012. The storm surgein
Battery Park along the lower east side of Manhattan during Hurricane Sandy was 9.41 feet
surpassing the record set by Hurricane Donna in 1960. New York Cityis close to the Atlantic Ocean.
Lower Manhattan defined by the North of 14th Street, the West by the Hudson River, the East
by the East River and the South by New York Harbor is surrounded by water and was one of the
hardest hit areas during Hurricane Sandy. The area is situated in Flood Zone A, a geographical
area designated by the Federal Emergence Management Association to be at risk for either coastal

Ferguson Fire Case Study
Massey had finally found the explanation for the start of the fire. But, he then needed to answer
the more urgent question of why the fire got so out of control, so quickly. Fires a regular hazard
on every carrier. On average, there s one every week. In 1967, each carrier had crews of highly
trained firefighters to tackle these blazes. But, Massey found the reason why those teams failed to
stop the fire. The leader of the team, gerald Farrier, reached the fire within 30 seconds, with the rest
of the team right behind him. But, 94 seconds into the fire, there came the first explosion, which
killed Gerald and 5 of the team, and disabled the remaining three. Untrained men then had to fight

94 seconds after the fire started, the first reached cook off point. It exploded violently, killing

Compare And Contrast The Outsiders And The Outsiders
In the 1950 s everything in America was great it was a very illustrious decade in history. We
stood, summit of the world as the Prime of Britain commented. The US had the strongest,
uttermost powerful military at the time. Our economy was booming. Cars, food, and house
were more available than ever. Equally important, was Tulsa, Oklahoma, dubbed as America s
Most beautiful city. Tulsa s economy was booming as well. the oil business was successful.
After World War II America was great. But like most things you can t judge a book by its cover.
The education in America was worse than ever. Some kids wouldn t receive proper discipline.
And with that, They didn t know right from wrong. Just like both gangs in The Outsiders
especially the Socs. In The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, Ponyboy Curtis is having a hard life not
only did his parents died 8 months before. He is a part of the greasers, a gang of poor, middle to
lower class teens who live in the slums. Still, that doesn t matter because they are family. On the
other hand, and side of town are the Socs a clan of rich stuck up children who get everything in
their heart s desire. The Soc do crime to get attention or just because they can. Likewise, they are
criminals that are made. Their family life/ situations make them into who they are and how the
Socs act. At the same time, the relationships in the Socs influence the traits that are perceived by
the Socs from the Greasers. Also, the society defines them, making barriers, some people break the
barriers. Still, more people spend their life inside the living by definitionof who they are, assigned

Glorious Revolution and American Revolution
Each revolution is an innovation , whether it is bloody or not. British did well in revolution, so did
America, though they happened in a different era. However, because British had achieved the
accomplishment successfully, such as ended the monarchy peacefully and distributed the rights to
the parliament. It set an example for other countries and this impacted them drastically. The
documents; the reason why they rebelled; the legacy they left are so similar that people generally
consider the Glorious Revolution as the forerunner of the America Revolution.

700 British troops march into Lexington. The British met only 77 minutemen, and at first were
pleased to allow them to leave. Suddenly, from some unknown place a shot was fired, and the
British opened up on the Americans. A cloud of musket smoke soon covered the green. When the
brief Battle of Lexington ended, eight Americans were dead and 10 others were wounded. Only one
British soldier was injured, but the American Revolution had begun. At this point it was obvious to
see that the British had a bigger and better army, and the American only had the militia. However, at
Concord, the militia used a tactic called guerrilla. Guerrilla was a kind of tactic that utilized the
geography feature to have advantage during the battles. Militias just shot enemies randomly and
then they hid, so that the British troops were really confused about where their enemies were. This
time the American militias were prepared, with this tactic, the Americans routed the British all the
way back to Boston. There were nearly 300 British casualties, including 73 dead and 23 missing.

Internet Piracy And Its Effect On Our Society
How many songs does the average person have on their Mp3 devices? The Apple iTunes
Company s statistics have shown that the average person s iTunes library has just over 7,000
songs downloaded onto it (Gurman). Those numbers seem substantially high, especially
considering that most songs on iTunes each cost $1.29. That would mean that the average
person spends roughly $9,030 dollars on their music library alone, right? Wrong. According to
Apple, the total spending per iTunes account is merely $43 per year, and that s across all media
types. $43 dollars for an average of 7,000 songs? Now that just doesn t add up. In recent years,
internet piracy or file sharing of copyrighted material has gained much popularity. It has been the
recent advances in our technology that has made it main stream in the eyes of the general public.
Film makers, record companies, and many other entertainment industries suffer from billions of
dollars in lost profits every year... this loss comes as a direct result of internet piracy (Cherry 1).
There is rising debate on the issue of file sharing as an unethical crime. Many consider it to be no
different than downright theft. But are internet pirates being looked upon like criminals? For years,
American authorities have made numerous attempts to stop piracy in its tracks. However, many
court cases involving software theft have shown that not all pirates are being punished equally.

Why I Got Into The Field Of Public Administration Essay
The reasons that I got into the field of public administration was the community needs and its
lifeblood. Plus, I have this desire to constant improve the overall policies for the ideal of good
government. Ever since I got into the graduate school for a Master of Public Administration at
the San Diego State University. I came from a small town in the east and moved to one of major
cities in the United States. Everything and everyone from there opened my eyes wide opened to
the world and all of its opportunities. I felt and recognized that the opportunity for this
fellowship will help me with my career development into full time with the local government.
Let me share my career goal with you, which is to be a City Manager at one day. Or even to be
higher and daring than my current goal. I wanted to make a difference like every public servant
wants. Despite of that comment I felt that I know what the hardship is like and I am ready to
face more of it. As deaf person, which already experienced struggles and constant breaking
barriers. While breaking those barriers I found out two key thinking are proactive and strive.
Both of them have enhanced my thinking. Just same necessity for the local government to be a
good government by being proactive and strive opposed to reactive or survival. I believe that I
am capable candidate with great potential to be one of LGMFs. Especially with plenty of room for
me to grow within this fellowship. I believe I am the right candidate to be

Analysis Of Katha Pollitt s The Hunger Games Feral...
In Katha Pollitt s essay entitled The Hunger Games Feral Feminism, Pollitt writes about what
reality television might look like if taken to extremes. Reality television is a huge part of our
culture today, and I not only agree with Pollitt s views and ideas of what reality TV would look
if taken to the extremes, but I believe that we have already gotten to that point. Today s reality
TV shows such as Keeping up with the Kardashians , The Bachelorette or any of the Real
Housewives are among many of today s popular shows that focus on extreme aggression,
bullying, physical beauty, and sex appeal. These TV shows teach us that it is not only ok to
compromise morals and values, but that type of behavior accepted and rewarded. In today s age,
reality TV generally has to go negative and go to the extreme in order for it to be interesting
despite the lasting impact that it may have on viewers. Reality TV has an impact on the values of
their viewers and alters how they may perceive real life situations. Therefore, it s important to take
a look at some of the standards portrayed by reality TV.
Reality television is a huge part of our television viewing culture and the line between right and
wrong is not always clear to many of the viewers. The fact is, the extreme behaviors displayed are
not real or normal in the world that exists outside of reality TV. Many reality shows depict women

The Effect Of Metal Chelation On Latin
Introduction
Chelate means claw in Latin. Metal Chelation is a process when a polyvalent metal ion form
covalent bonds with a drug and binds tightly to form a 5 or 6 membered ring. 5 and 6 membered
ring structure are very stable because their bond angle has no ring strain. Thus, when a compound
is chelated, it will not be able to pass through the biological membrane, in another words, it will not
be metabolise by the body but to be pass through the renal without being absorbed and being
excreted though urine. Essential metal such as magnesium, iron, calcium and zinc are easily found
in many food source and is vital to be included as part of our diet as these trace elements are
helping our body enzymes, hormones and cells to work. Insufficient intake of trace minerals can
cause symptoms of nutritional deficiency. (Glusker,1999) At certain times, these metal are also use
as an active ingredient or excipients in pharmaceutical industry.
Chelation of Alendroic Acid with Calcium
Alendronic acid is a bisphosphonate drug that is used to inhibit osteoclastic bone resorption .it
works by attaching to hydroxyapatite binding sites to impair the ability of the osteoclasts to

Self Control In Mona Gardner s The Dinner Party
Women are like roses. Roses may seem delicate and fragile, but they ll surprise you with their
sharp thorns, similar to women. When you judge a women, you ll be surprise by her reaction.
The author, Mona Gardner, of The Dinner Party writes about an event that takes place in India at
a dinner party in the 1940 s. At the party there is a spirited discussion about women and their self
control in a crisis. A young girl believes that women has as much as self control as men. Unlike the
girl, the colonel says, A womans unfailing reaction in any crisis, the colonel says, is to scream
(paragraph 3). This spirited discussion between these characters reveal the thesis and the author s
point. Self control is not determined by gender.
To begin with, the colonel represents a rigid male perspective of the 1940 s. He helps reveal the
theme and author s point get across to the reader by showing the manly figure of the 1940 s,
stereotyping of women s self control in a crisis. In the story the colonel claims, And while a man
may feel like it, he has that ounce more of nerve than a woman has. And that last ounce is what
counts. (paragraph 2) The colonel believes this because since he is high ranking, he feels as if he

Wynnes supports the author s point, self control is not determined by gender. She reveals the author
s point because the situational irony proved that the colonel was wrong about women. The
hostess, Mrs. Wynnes, says at the end of the story that she knew the snake was in the room,
Because it was crawling across my foot. (paragraph 12) This proved that the colonel was wrong
about women s self control in a crisis. Mrs. Wynnes didn t scream when the snake crawled over
her foot, instead she told the native boy to put a bowl of milk out as bait to lure the cobra away.
This shows that she had as much control as the American naturalist when he shut the cobra outside

The Historical Trauma of Slavery in the Film Version of Toni Morrison s Beloved
The film Beloved was released in 1998 to mixed reviews. The movie, based on Toni Morrison s
novel, tells a ghost story from an African American perspective. It takes place only a few years
after the abolishment of slavery, with the traumatic scars still fresh and unable to be healed. In the
film the protagonist, Sethe, is revisited by the ghost of the daughter she murdered eighteen years
earlier. I shall argue that her daughter, Beloved, is the embodiment of the traumaof the African
American experience of slavery. In order to support this claim, I will explain what constitutes

All of the critics were writing for the public sphere, which is characterized by Inch and Warnick as
containing arguments that are intended for public or general audiences (52). In this case, the
argument for the public sphere is directed toward movie going audiences. The argument field is
the evaluation of films during the 1990 s, and could more specifically include historical films
created in the 1990 s. The argument field is an important point to my argument because historical
film contains many debatable points, all of which will be discussed after the reviews are
summarized.
The critics felt that the movie did not make a smooth enough transition from the novel, and felt
that the overall content was too complicated. Richard Blake from America argued, the
complexity of the novel becomes simply confusion in the film (1). Blake was also critical of the
director, Jonathan Demme, and said, [h]is use of sepia tinted film stock and oblique camera angles
calls attention to itself and distracts from the characters (2). The article Beloved It s Not, from the
Economist also responded negatively to the movie. The author states that [t]he main problem is the
film itself: most audiences are not eager to endure nearly three hours of a cerebral film with an
original storyline featuring supernatural themes, murder, rape and slavery (2). John Simon of the

Achilles Vs. Hector
Being an epic about war between Greeks and The Trojan, the Iliad confronts the fact that
everyone is destined to die. The battles in the epic are full of reports of the deaths of men who
appear in the story in order to die. To some, it s seen as natural because, Like the generations of
leaves, the lives of mortal men, as one generation comes to life, another dies away, (Book 6). Two
characters that are so alike yet so differing as a Greek warrior, Achilles, and the Prince of Troy,
Hector, know what it feels like to battle when death is around the corner. The focus on Achilles
and Hector enables the readers to regard both sides of the armies evenly. However, it also apprises

Society depends on the bonds of love and family, and Hektor encompasses and fights for those
bonds. This brief insight into Hector s life shows that Hector has something worth fighting for
and something worth protecting. This makes his character incredibly tragic, as it is well known
to the audience that Hector will certainly die and there will be no one to protect Andromache or
his child. His strength and humanity is also shown through his continuing to fight, instead of
staying in safety behind the Trojan walls with his family. This loyalty to Troy shows Hector s
importance to the Trojan cause. It is established in this scene that the Trojan success depends
entirely on Hector. This scene also foreshadows the death of Hector, the fall of Troy and of the
fate of Andromache and Astyanax. It is this foreshadowing which makes the scene all the more
poignant and therefore tragic. At the end of book six, Andromache stirs her servant women to
lament and mourn for Hector despite the fact that he is not yet dead. This shows the audience that
Andromache is certain Hector will die, it signifies the effect that his death will have on the citizens
of Troy, thus giving the impression that Hector is a tragic

Blackrock Essay
Blackrock Major Essay Assignment
Blackrock by Nick Enright is a drama piece constructed to challenge dominant social ideology of
twentieth century Australian youth. The text presents a very critical attitude towards Australian
society in particular the notion of mateship is criticised and exposed in a negative light, as are the
justifications, and outcomes of youth independence, and the marginalisation of females. Blackrock,
being inspired/based on a the real life rape and murder of schoolgirl Leigh Leigh (in Stockton, near
Newcastle, Australia on 3 November 1989), provides powerful, direct, criticism of dominant
Australian (male) youth culture, and highlights how seemingly harmless attitudes and ideologies

Tiffany s boyfriend Ricko, who is the dominant male in the Blackrock youth group, clearly
objectifies Tiffany through the symbolic use of his surfing trophy, representative of Tiffany,
through his eyes she is just a trophy, just an object which he desired and thus conquered. Ricko s
objectification of her is reinforced through the dialogue, Once, for him and Jason...I m not doing
nothing like that ever again, to which Ricko replies , You ll do what you always do...Cause you
are what you are. What you ll always be. So shut up and put out. Ricko s mind set and
personality are evident through this cruel and contemptuous verbal abuse, which demonstrates
his objectification of her, in that he only tolerates her for her body to satisfy his sexual lust and
that she is useless in every other way to him. Tiffany s character was created by Enright to be a
perfect example of female marginalisation and disempowerment, as she really has no power within
the Blackrock community and even in her attempts to assume rapport she is rejected Her
promiscuity is an attempt to gain status in the Blackrock community yet she is abused and
objectified by her boyfriend Ricko and pushed even lower in social status(as a sex object),

Adams infatuation love, or does it become a stronger love? I say all of the above, especially
stronger because his fantasies come true. And as Caroline finds out he can fulfill her properties
she looks for in a man. Until his heart fails once more this time leading to death. With this loss of
his life, Caroline is not whole anymore, she is only herself, that identity of them together is
gone. Now she will have to go on with a new identity because the one that was created with Adam
is no longer there physically. Where Nozicks view comes falls short of the relationship is when
he says that infatuation might hold people together until they are stuck, or in love. Because in this
relationship only one had an infatuation on the other. I totally agree with Nozicks view that if we
are in a good situation there should be no reason to ruin it by trading up. Caroline will have a hard
time finding the same romantic love she did with Adam because there isn t anybody who loved her

Chinese People Prefer Buy Luxury

$ 1,895. The price of more than 40% cheaper than in China.(Wang,H 2013) In my opinion, I
think the price is the most important reason behind why Chinese tourists buy more luxury goods
overseas.
On the other hand, The China Daily reporter Xiao He cites another reason for why people buy
luxury goods overseas. In 2012, 25% of global luxury goods were purchased Chinese people, 60%

Many Chinese consumers overseas have found that the same brand of goods abroad offer a much

Video games have been enjoyed by millions of gamers for decades, and the industry is wildly
popular. Video games are a great way for a person to sit back and relax and to have fun doing it.
In 2001, a game designing company known as DMA Design (now Rockstar North) changed the
video game industry forever with the release of Grand Theft Auto III (abbreviated as GTA III).
Grand Theft Auto III was one of the most influential video games because it was the first
massively popular game to include a fully explorable open world, combine many different video
gamegenres into a successful game, include a wealth of content, and spawn countless sandbox
games that attempted to recreate GTA III s success. No product can succeed in the market
without proper marketing and exposure. Grand Theft Auto III was very controversial, as it
included swearing, violence, prostitutes, and more. It received a lot of backlash and criticism
from the media, but that only led to its increased popularity among gamers (Leigh). GTA III s
media exposure is a part of what made it so popular, and that is what led to its large influence on
the video game industry. While it was not the first game to include an open world, Grand Theft
Auto III was the first game to include a fully explorable open city on a large scale. In addition to
the open world, players were not forced to mindlessly complete mission after mission until finishing
the game and letting it collect dust on the shelf. Instead, GTA III allowed

Slaughterhouse Five Themes
Slaughterhouse Five is a book that employs heavy themes to make the reader to not only delve
into a realm of thought but also into belief. The themes that the book seems to point to appear to
be free will, and human nature. The book seems to portray the idea that we are all destined for
something, and that no matter what choices we make it will always end the same. Due to this,
Kurt litters the book with religious messages, catholic prayers, inferences to the old and new
testament in the bible, and a very straightforward idea of a greater power (in this case the
tralfamadorians), in order to make the reader question if there is in fact destiny, free will. One
example referring to religion is part of the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. The quote,

Analysis Of The Story Cathedral
Cathedral The story Cathedral demonstrates that lack of sight does not necessarily prevent one
from perceiving things as they are, or live their life to the fullest. In the story, a middle age blind
man, who is a friend to the narrator s wife, and used to be her boss at one point, visits the narrator
and his wife. The narrator has never interacted with blind people before, and all he knew about
blind people was what he had seen on television. Blind people are stereotypically portrayed on
television as slow moving, dull people, who never laugh. Based on this perception, the narrator
was reluctant to meet the blind man and doubted whether they were going to connect. This is
evident when the narrator states, I wasn t enthusiastic about his visit. He was no one I knew. And
his being blind bothered me (Carver 1). The doubt the narrator had towards blind people his
further evident when the blind man arrives at his house. On seeing the blind man for the first time
in the parking lot, the narrator noticed that the blind man had a beard, but he thought that it was
unusual. This is evident when the narrator remarks, This blind man, feature this, he was wearing a
full beard! A beard on a blind man! Too much, I say (Carver 4). The skeptical view, the narrator
had towards blind people is further brought out when the narrator was being told about the death of
the blind man s wife. The narrator could not imagine a man marrying a woman, living together, and
having sex with

The Medicinal Purposes of Garlic Essay
One claim where additional research is being done on is the affect of garlic on cardiovascular
disease (CVD). According to the American Heart Association, one in every three American adults
has one or more types of CVD. The most common types of CVDs include high blood pressure,
coronary heart disease, heart failure and stroke. CVD has been the number one cause of death in
America since 1900, with the exception of 1918. On average, 2,300 Americans die each day from
some type of CVD (American Heart Association, 2010). Through different trials and tests, Garlic
has been found to help provide protection against various CVDs, which based on the statistics, can
help hundreds of thousands of people in America. Garlic has been found to lower... Show more

One study showed that garlic was able to reverse the buildup of fat and begin to clear the arteries.
However, for these results a large amount of garlic was needed to be consumed and over a lengthy
period of time (Fulder, 1997).
While studying animals, a scientist by the name of David Kritchevsky at the Wistar Institute in
Philadelphia, concluded that garlic reduced the cholesterols levels in the body by slowing down the
catalyst in the liver, which ultimately decreases the amount of cholesterol that is actually being
produced. One study which supports this conclusion was done by the U.S. Department of
Agriculture. In this study, pigs were fed their normal diet with the addition of garlic extract. The
LDL cholesterol fell by half, the HDL cholesterol increased by 20 percent, and the production of
fats in the liver also was reduced by half (Fulder, 1997). These studies performed on animals
proved garlic to be effective, but the real tests are the ones done on humans; those are the ones
which are more convincing.
In fact, multiple studies have been conducted on humans and have come to similar conclusions
about the effectiveness of garlic on cardiovascular disease prevention. In the late 1970s, several
studies were done testing the use of raw garlic consumption. Healthy subjects along with individuals
with ischemic heart disease consumed raw garlic for two to three months. The results showed a
reduction in blood cholesterol and triglyceride

Explain How The Enlightenment Influenced The American...
How ideas from the enlightenment influenced the American Revolution Our nation was born from
the idea that each person should have their own independence. They thought that the only way to
get that independence was to separate ourselves from not only King George III, but the entire
country of Great Britain. To make sure that there would not be any more tyrants to lead our country;
our founding fathers used ideas from the Enlightenment to establish our government and to ensure
our future as a nation. Many philosophers of the Enlightenment period had a crucial influence on
the documents that created The United States of America. John Locke, Voltaire, Montesquieu, and
Rousseau all had a hand in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. John Locke had
a focus on natural rights. He thought people were peaceful and moral. He believed in a direct
democracy, a government in which the people vote. Montesquieu sharply criticized an absolute
monarchy, which Hobbes was a fan of. He... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

should have a say in the government. All people could have a say in what the government does

the rest of the philosophers believed in. When drafting the Declaration of Independence, Thomas
Jefferson used ideas from John Locke. Jefferson expressed Locke s belief that if any government is
found unfitting for the citizens, then the citizens have the right to over throw their government.
Jefferson also used Rousseau s belief that all men had rights and were created equal. James
Madison used ideas from Voltaire s belief that humans had certain freedoms. Madison turned
Voltaire s ideas into the first amendment of the Constitution. Montesquieu s work on the separation

How Poliomyelitis Is A Contagious And Aggressive Virus
Poliomyelitis is a highly contagious and aggressive virus which attacks motor neurones attached
to the spinal chord and brainstem. There is no cure for Polio however there is a vaccine which
contains a mixture of live and weakened strains of the three types of polio; Bulbar polio, spinal
polio and bulbospinal polio. Poliomyelitisis an aggressive viruswhich is able to pass through the
three line of defence. It is passed through the first line by the faecal/oral route and enters the
bloodstream. It invades the T and B cells which are activated in the innate immune systemand is
fought by the antibodies in the stage of the Adaptive immune system, where symptoms are already
exposed. In order to eradicate Polio more accessible treatment in developing countries as well as
better sanitation is needed.
Poliomyelitis, or Polio is a highly contagious disease caused by the Polio virus, which can affect
the spinal cord and brainstem. Although 90 95 % of who are acutely affected by Polio are
Asymptomatic, 5 10% experience mild symptoms such as a head ache, fever, fatigue, throat pain
and stomach pain and 0.5 % experience muscle symptoms such as muscle weakness, muscle
spasming/twitching, loss of muscle tone and complete loss of movement in muscles. If the virus
makes it s way into the brain or spinal cord it can cause paralysis and even death. As mentioned
before the disease spreads very easily between person to person, particularly affecting infants

Jesus Christ Change Over Time Essay
Christian ideas about Jesus Christ have changed over time from the first writings calling him a
prophet or the new messiah to the defining moment in Chalcedon deeming him one person with two
parts, human and divine. These changes can be attributed to the fact that after the death of Jesus
Christ, Christianity was still a relatively new religionand was still working out the exact
interpretation of JesusChrist and what he meant to Christianityas a whole. The Apostolic Era,
named after the twelve disciples of Jesus Christ, is known as the founding era of Christianity and
took place from 40 B.C.E., the death of Jesus Christ, to 100 C.E. In the early beginnings of the
church, Jesus was referred to as the Messiah, which connects back to a... Show more content on

to 600 and was named after the earliest Christian theologian writers, the Fathers of the Church.
Despite the images of Jesus that were produced and distributed by Paul and the four gospel authors,
there was still a general confusion about Christianity and what its followers believed in. This
ultimately is a result of Christians breaking from conventional Judaism that rejected the claim that
Jesus was the messiah, which was the central teaching of Christianity. Christian writers brought up
a connection between Jesus and the sin of Adam and Eve. The connection made was that the tree of
the knowledge of good and evil and the tree of the cross were incidentally one and Jesus death
paradoxically restored the immortality the first couple had lost for themselves and their descendant
through their sin (Cunningham, 51). This statement is what brought about the debate over Jesus
divinity that has plagued Christianity since the beginning. To bring this to a decision, in 325
Constantine called for Christian bishops to convene at the Council of Nicea and discuss the raging
debate about the equality of Jesus Christ with God (Cunningham, 51). Following this first
ecumenical council, Tertullian, a North African Christian, coined the term trintas which translates
to the idea of three persons making up one divine reality. (p. 51) This idea stated that Jesus Christ
was one divine being made up of three separate persons: Father, Son, and Holy

beneficial to human beings. Eventually, Bad sleep habits and long term sleep loss will add up
and will start to negatively affect your health. If you routinely lose sleep or choose to sleep less
than needed, the sleep loss adds up (Source 1, Paragraph 2). Not getting enough sleep will
always add up even if you only miss an hour a day that will still add up to seven hours every

only sleep at a certain time your biological clock allows. With sleep being a prerequisite for
human life and needed to live. Thus, you will not be able to pay back the sleep debt causing

J.R.R. Tolkien is often the first name that comes to mind when one thinks of popular fantasy
writers. Writing stories ever since he was a young child, he had always experimented with
language and the creation of his own little world. J.R.R. Tolkien s masterpiece, The Lord of the
Rings, has greatly influenced the fantasy genre and set an example for fantasy writers around the
world. John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born to Arthur and Mabel Tolkien in 1892 in the Orange

As a second lieutenant he was eventually stationed in Bouzincourt, a village located in France.
He was highly unaccustomed to the battlefield; he did not expect the dangers that he would face
every which way he turned. He suffered from trench fever and was shipped home to recover at
one point, though he never fully recovered until the war ended in 1918 (D. Rogers, I. Rogers,
21). After the war ended, Tolkien and his family settled in Oxford, where he found a job
working on the Oxford English Dictionary. He also met new friends such as C.S. Lewis, Hugo
Dyson, and Charles Williams. They formed a group called The Inklings where they would come
together and discuss literary works, including their own. Tolkien had begun writing The Hobbit,
pieces of which he would read aloud to his group of friends who very much enjoyed it.
Unfortunately, finishing the children s book with haste was not on the top of Tolkien s priority
list. The book was finally published by Allen and Unwin in 1937 and eventually enjoyed not
only by children, but by the general public as well (D. Rogers, I. Rogers, 22 23). Tolkien wrote a
number of stories after The Hobbit, but many were incomplete; very few works were published.
Everyone wanted to hear more about the curious hobbits. His fellow Inklings encouraged him to
keep writing, but the process was slow going, especially as he found more and more to write about.

The New Israeli Nation between 1947-1967 Essay
How was the new Israeli nation able to be born, to survive, and to prosper during the period of
1947 1967 despite being surrounded by hostile states? Introduction One of the biggest mysteries of
the 20th century was the sudden creation of the Jewish state. It had been the dream of almost
every Jew to have their own nation in which they would be free from persecution but its very
creation appeared to be beyond human possibility. Almost 6 million Jews been viciously massacred
under the Final Solution Plan of Nazi Germany and the remaining were dispossessed refugees. The

After the brutal anti Jewish pogroms in Russia in the 1880 s, Jews realized that remaining in
Europe would no longer be an option. As a consequence, they decided to create their own nation
state. On of the first Zionist movements (Zionist; meaning advocates of returning to Palestine) was
Hoveve Zion (Lovers of Zion). The movement originated in Russia in the 1880s. It established
several Zionist towns in Palestine. Eventually, in 1893 the World Zionist Organization was founded
by a correspondent of a Viennese newspaper, Theodor Herzl. He published a pamphlet; known as
The Jewish State in which he argued that since Jews were a nationality without land, they must
attain land in order to construct a nation state. (Mitchell, 2001) At the congress in Basel,
Switzerland in 1897, the World Zionist Movement was established whose goal was to create a
homeland for the Jewish people. Jews throughout the world donated 357 million in US dollars in its
first year of existence. After unsuccessful attempts of negotiations with the Uganda and Argentine
governments, they decided that the Jewish homeland would exist in Palestine. An old religious
Jewish community known as the Old Yishuv had survived in Palestine throughout the rule of the
Ottoman Empire and had virtually no conflict with their Arab neighbors (although there were laws
which forbade Jews from building synagogues higher than mosques). In his book, A History of the
Israeli Palestinian Conflict, Mark Tessler, a

Metamorphosis-Change Patterns In The Amulet Of Samarkand
Contradictions are something that, one way or another, are going to have to be faced at some point
in the average person s life. Some people must deal with more contradictions than the average
person does which leads to catastrophic events or a big change in their life. Young magician,
Nathaniel (John Mandrake), encountered changes in his life that differentiates him from others.
Similar to the archetypal story pattern Metamorphosis , Nathaniel dealt with many internal and
external changes from the beginning of the novelto the ending of the novel. In The Amulet of
Samarkand, the narrative follows the Metamorphosis/Change pattern in which the protagonist,
Nathaniel, undergoes excessive change from start to finish.
As the story opens, Nathaniel is displayed as a 5 year old, small pale faced boy who was
abandoned by his parents and adopted by a magician known as Mr. Underwood. Mr. Underwood

of the change Nathaniel must undergo throughout the novel. Nathaniel has multiple changes in his

change is shown the most for Nathaniel.
With the end of the story approaching, Nathaniel undergoes the greatest change of his journey

Museum Misconceptions
This thesis focuses on archaeology programming in museums and the common visitor
misconceptions about archaeology that museum educators face, especially those promoted by
popular culture. By recognizing the notions and understanding of archaeology that visitors and
program participants carry with them, museums can create truly educational programs that go
beyond the adventure/detective version of pop culture archaeologyand successfully introduce the
archaeological discipline to the general public. This thesis analyzes and explores what
misconceptions of archaeology are commonly held by museumvisitors, what their source is, and
how museum programming can address these notions.

  • 2. Essay On The South African War The war that occurred in South Africa from 1899 to 1902 has had several names throughout history. Often, the title depends on who is discussing the war and on what side of the war they were fighting for during the conflict. Several of these names include the Boer War, the Second War of Liberation, the Anglo Boer War, and the South African War. Many historians today believe that it should be referred to as the South African War, so as to include everyone who resided in the South African region at that time. The conflict should be called the South African war as it was not simply a war between white British and white Boers because there were many different people and races involved and affected, including African workers, and foreigners who came to work in the mines in the Transvaal. The War in South Africa resulted from many different issues between the British Empireand the Dutch, or the Boers. Two of the primary sources of conflict during the war were the diamond and gold mines found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The high number of black Africans in the British concentration camps shows just one of the ways that the black and colored communities suffered from this war which is considered to be the most devastating war in South African history . On May 31st, 1902, the Boer s had surrendered to the British and signed the Treaty of Vereeniging at Pretoria. The next years were spent negotiating peace and the future of the now British colony, South Africa. A new governmental system had to be developed so to include the now four provinces of the British colony. He was running against former president Jimmy Carter, Reagan won the election with 51% of electoral vote. He promised to work to get the US government out of people s everyday lives and provide major tax cuts. These ideas won the support of many throughout the US. The 1980s was the birthplace of a new era, an era of moviegoers and people who loved to watch tv. At the end of the 1980s 60% of the population had cable TV. Movies such as E.T., Back To The Future and The Breakfast Club all debuted in the 1980s. One major contribution to TV being so popular was MTV because it went against the norm and showed all kinds of music. • 4. The Nature Of Love By Harry Harlow Harry Harlow was labeled as a man with a desire for learning about what he presumed love to be and consequently, dedicated his later career to the subject. Life presented him with ups and downs yet, he pursued his research with a vigor. He developed notions about the concepts of affection in contrast to bodily needs and what could possibly derive from one not receiving love. This guided him to establish observational research methods to study his ideas via the use of infant primates which, yielded both positive and negative outcomes. Harlow s article titled, The Nature of Love, relayed his explorations and discoveries, along with his future ideas. Harlow supposedly had a quiet and uneventful childhood, and his exhibited traits of big ambitions eventually led him to earn a Ph.D. from Stanford University. With respect to his personal life, Harlow s initial marriage ended when his wife left him due to his extreme dedication towards work, and his second wife passed away from cancer. Professionally, Harlow s career took place when behaviorism ruled the psychological field, and it was his controversial work that made him well known amongst his community. He was not intimidated by the status quo and thus, conducted experiments with primates to study the unchartered territory of affection. However, after the death of his second wife, Harlow had become distraught and depressed. His career started to falter, and he eventually retired in 1973 (Harry Harlow, 2014). Harlow ... Answer (d) is incorrect because with rare exceptions, silence does not constitute acceptance. 3.(c)Peters offer had been revoked. Since revocation notice can be received either directly or indirectly, Mason, in effect, received the revocation notice when he was told the mower had been sold to Bronson; and therefore, Mason s acceptance was ineffective, even though the specified time of the oral contract had not expired. Peters offer had been revoked prior to Mason s acceptance. There was no obligation on the part of Peters to keep the offer open, since there was no consideration for him to do so. CHAPTER 14 CAPACITY AND GENUINE ASSENT 1.(a)Where a mistake is made by only one party (a unilateral mistake), the rule is that the mistaken party is bound by the contract unless the nonmistaken party knew of the mistake or should have known of the mistake. In this question, the nonmistaken party knew of the mistake; thus, the mistaken party is not bound by the contract. Whether the mistake was a result of gross negligence is irrelevant. 2.(a)Answer (b) is incorrect because a disaffirmance need not be in writing. His description of the girls goes on for about a quarter of the story. He is starstruck by the girls. Stokesie and him turn into pigs by the girl. They say Oh Daddy. Stokesie said beside me. I feel so faint. Darling, I said. Hold me tight. (34) They both gawk at the girls as they mutter sexually inspired whispers at the checkout lanes.. In their defense this story takes place in the middle of town five miles from the beach during the 1950s. The attire that the girls are wearing is very unusual for that time period especially so far from the beach. The time period this story takes place is very conservative. It is also a time of very strict conformity. Sammy sees the conformity and he hates it. The whole time he narrates the story he compares the shoppers to farm animals. He acknowledges his conformity when he quits and talks about the uniform. He is aware that he is a part of the corporate structure and just one of the pawns. • 11. Compare and contrast Alexander II and Alexander III Essay Compare and contrast Alexander II and Alexander III Although they were father and son, the reigns of Alexander II and Alexander III took off in completely different directions. Alexander II was committed to his empire by vowing to reform Russia, making it more in line with nineteenth century western society. His son, on the other hand, was the unprepared tsar, whose actions were literally reactions to his father s unexpected assassination. Consequently, Alexander II went down in history as much more productive in the field of domestic policy; in dealing with revolutionaries; and in his foreign policy than his son Alex III would ever be. 1855 was a tough time for Alexander II to take the throne. Russia was in the middle of a costly war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alexander III s stance on domestic issues came as no surprise. As a youngster, he was tutored by Konstantin Pobodonestev, a conservative, forceful man who strongly opposed Western ideology. Pobodonestev s ideas and beliefs rubbed off on the young boy, and he blamed his father s liberal minded reforms as the cause for his murder. Seeking to strengthen the autocracy, he gave officials the power to declare a state of emergency, and to arrest or fine anyone unreliable. He also cleverly cut off schools by setting up discriminatory admission rules, against women, poor families, and the Jews. He then forced the expansion of Russian culture and language by forcing everyone in the nation to speak, write, and think in Russian; otherwise known as Russification. Alexander III preferred having as much control as possible over his people, something he did not have in common with his father. Despite all the work Alexander II did toward reforming Russia, the Era of Great Reforms left one crucial aspect unaltered: the power of the emperor. The intentional neglect of this was what kept the reforms from realizing their true potential. This led to dissatisfaction, which encouraged repression, terror, and most importantly: revolution. The first was the Polish Rebellion, caused by the failure of Russian authorities to suppress Polish nationalism. Although the Poles failed, other minorities sprung up for their voice ... With the advancement of technology resulting in social media formats, media activism has become more widespread. The rise of media activism in the world has resulted in media activism becoming a type of public relations format. While there may seem to be differences in the two, one can see the similarity in techniques used and bases of goals that are trying to be obtained. This projection was illuminated during Hurricanes Irene in 2011 and Sandy in 2012. Reality television is a huge part of our culture today, and I not only agree with Pollitt s views and ideas of what reality TV would look if taken to the extremes, but I believe that we have already gotten to that point. Today s reality TV shows such as Keeping up with the Kardashians , The Bachelorette or any of the Real Housewives are among many of today s popular shows that focus on extreme aggression, bullying, physical beauty, and sex appeal. These TV shows teach us that it is not only ok to compromise morals and values, but that type of behavior accepted and rewarded. In today s age, reality TV generally has to go negative and go to the extreme in order for it to be interesting despite the lasting impact that it may have on viewers. Metal Chelation is a process when a polyvalent metal ion form covalent bonds with a drug and binds tightly to form a 5 or 6 membered ring. 5 and 6 membered ring structure are very stable because their bond angle has no ring strain. Thus, when a compound is chelated, it will not be able to pass through the biological membrane, in another words, it will not be metabolise by the body but to be pass through the renal without being absorbed and being excreted though urine. Essential metal such as magnesium, iron, calcium and zinc are easily found in many food source and is vital to be included as part of our diet as these trace elements are helping our body enzymes, hormones and cells to work. These transformative dialogues was aimed at creating cultural harmony and mutual understanding between these two reducing prejudice and hostility. According to Ellias, the reason behind continuous failure of the dialogues between Israeli Jewish and Palestinian could be the differences in their cultural norms and values and their speech codes emerged from their history. An Arab speaker who is engaging in his speech code called musayara is polite, indirect, courteous, and nonconfrontive to the other member of a conversation, whereas the speech code of Jewish is found sharp contrasting to that of Arabs. The communication code of Jewish is termed as dugri which means straight talk. Jews who is engaging in his speech code dugri employ a direct, pragmatic and assertive style. Since, speech codes are culturally distinctive and the meaning and significance of messages lies on codes, it is very important for those who engaged in the dialogues to understand and predict each other during any intercultural communication or dialogue. My team s technique was that we found the tare weight of the beaker with the beans to be 49. 912g. Next we found the overall weight to be 95.301g. Then we found the average massof ten beans, which was .47 g all together. After we found that we subtracted the mass of the beaker with the beans from the tare weight to find the weight of the beans. After my team found the weight of the beans we divided it by the average weight of the beans and got 97 beans. We repeated these steps with the information from the large jar and got our estimate of 1,992 beans. Our estimate was close to the actual amount of beans, we were only 59 beans away from the true amount. • 40. Grand Theft Auto IIi ( Abbreviated Iv ) Video games have been enjoyed by millions of gamers for decades, and the industry is wildly popular. Video games are a great way for a person to sit back and relax and to have fun doing it. In 2001, a game designing company known as DMA Design (now Rockstar North) changed the video game industry forever with the release of Grand Theft Auto III (abbreviated as GTA III). Grand Theft Auto III was one of the most influential video games because it was the first massively popular game to include a fully explorable open world, combine many different video gamegenres into a successful game, include a wealth of content, and spawn countless sandbox games that attempted to recreate GTA III s success. No product can succeed in the market without proper marketing and exposure. Grand Theft Auto III was very controversial, as it included swearing, violence, prostitutes, and more. It received a lot of backlash and criticism from the media, but that only led to its increased popularity among gamers (Leigh). GTA III s media exposure is a part of what made it so popular, and that is what led to its large influence on the video game industry. While it was not the first game to include an open world, Grand Theft Auto III was the first game to include a fully explorable open city on a large scale. In addition to the open world, players were not forced to mindlessly complete mission after mission until finishing the game and letting it collect dust on the shelf. Instead, GTA III allowed ... • 42. Analysis Of The Story Cathedral Cathedral The story Cathedral demonstrates that lack of sight does not necessarily prevent one from perceiving things as they are, or live their life to the fullest. In the story, a middle age blind man, who is a friend to the narrator s wife, and used to be her boss at one point, visits the narrator and his wife. The narrator has never interacted with blind people before, and all he knew about blind people was what he had seen on television. Blind people are stereotypically portrayed on television as slow moving, dull people, who never laugh. Based on this perception, the narrator was reluctant to meet the blind man and doubted whether they were going to connect. This is evident when the narrator states, I wasn t enthusiastic about his visit. He was no one I knew. And his being blind bothered me (Carver 1). The doubt the narrator had towards blind people his further evident when the blind man arrives at his house. On seeing the blind man for the first time in the parking lot, the narrator noticed that the blind man had a beard, but he thought that it was unusual. This is evident when the narrator remarks, This blind man, feature this, he was wearing a full beard! A beard on a blind man! Too much, I say (Carver 4). However, for these results a large amount of garlic was needed to be consumed and over a lengthy period of time (Fulder, 1997). While studying animals, a scientist by the name of David Kritchevsky at the Wistar Institute in Philadelphia, concluded that garlic reduced the cholesterols levels in the body by slowing down the catalyst in the liver, which ultimately decreases the amount of cholesterol that is actually being produced. One study which supports this conclusion was done by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In this study, pigs were fed their normal diet with the addition of garlic extract. The LDL cholesterol fell by half, the HDL cholesterol increased by 20 percent, and the production of fats in the liver also was reduced by half (Fulder, 1997). These studies performed on animals proved garlic to be effective, but the real tests are the ones done on humans; those are the ones which are more convincing. In fact, multiple studies have been conducted on humans and have come to similar conclusions about the effectiveness of garlic on cardiovascular disease prevention. Jesus Christ Change Over Time Essay Christian ideas about Jesus Christ have changed over time from the first writings calling him a prophet or the new messiah to the defining moment in Chalcedon deeming him one person with two parts, human and divine. These changes can be attributed to the fact that after the death of Jesus Christ, Christianity was still a relatively new religionand was still working out the exact interpretation of JesusChrist and what he meant to Christianityas a whole. The Apostolic Era, named after the twelve disciples of Jesus Christ, is known as the founding era of Christianity and took place from 40 B.C.E., the death of Jesus Christ, to 100 C.E. Despite the images of Jesus that were produced and distributed by Paul and the four gospel authors, there was still a general confusion about Christianity and what its followers believed in. This ultimately is a result of Christians breaking from conventional Judaism that rejected the claim that Jesus was the messiah, which was the central teaching of Christianity. Christian writers brought up a connection between Jesus and the sin of Adam and Eve. The connection made was that the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and the tree of the cross were incidentally one and Jesus death paradoxically restored the immortality the first couple had lost for themselves and their descendant through their sin (Cunningham, 51). This statement is what brought about the debate over Jesus divinity that has plagued Christianity since the beginning. To bring this to a decision, in 325 Constantine called for Christian bishops to convene at the Council of Nicea and discuss the raging debate about the equality of Jesus Christ with God (Cunningham, 51). Following this first ecumenical council, Tertullian, a North African Christian, coined the term trintas which translates to the idea of three persons making up one divine reality.
