In gas chromatography, the sample is first converted to the vapor state or volatile compound is
used which are injected into heated port along with a carrier gas. Analyte in the vapor state
distributes between the stationary phase and the carrier gas. As the analyte elute from column
signal is displayed in the form of chromatogram. Measurements of GC are rapid and convenient.
Retention times are used for qualitative identification. Peak areas are used for quantitative
measurements.
The GC produces a graph called a chromatogram, which shows peaks: the size of a peak indicates the amount of each component reaching the detector. The number of peaks shows different compounds present in the sample. The position of each peak shows the retention time for each compound
Design of Electronic Nose System Using Gas Chromatography Principle and Surfa...TELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
Most gases are odorless, colorless and also hazard to be sensed by the human olfactory system.
Hence, an electronic nose system is required for the gas classification process. This study presents the
design of electronic nose system using a combination of Gas Chromatography Column and a Surface
Acoustic Wave (SAW). The Gas Chromatography Column is a technique based on the compound partition
at a certain temperature. Whereas, the SAW sensor works based on the resonant frequency change. In
this study, gas samples including methanol, acetonitrile, and benzene are used for system performance
measurement. Each gas sample generates a specific acoustic signal data in the form of a frequency
change recorded by the SAW sensor. Then, the acoustic signal data is analyzed to obtain the acoustic
features, i.e. the peak amplitude, the negative slope, the positive slope, and the length. The Support
Vector Machine (SVM) method using the acoustic feature as its input parameters are applied to classify
the gas sample. Radial Basis Function is used to build the optimal hyperplane model which devided into
two processes i.e., the training process and the external validation process. According to the result
performance, the training process has the accuracy of 98.7% and the external validation process has the
accuracy of 93.3%. Our electronic nose system has the average sensitivity of 51.43 Hz/mL to sense the
gas samples.
High-precision Ultrasonic Flowmeter for Mining Applications based on Velocity...TELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
The flowmeter is widely used in coal mining because of its higher measurement
precision and simple installation without channel project modification. In this paper, a flow
measurement method based on velocity-area is investigated, and a functional flowmeter for
mining applications with higher precision is designed. The two key parameters, the liquid level
and flow velocity are required to be obtained for achieving the proposed method. The proposed
flowmeter is composed of three main functional modules: (1) flow velocity detection module
based on ultrasonic time difference method, (2) liquid level detection module, and (3) mud level
detection module based on ultrasonic pulse echo method. All the measured data are transferred
to the monitoring station for analysis and displayed in real-time through M-BUS. The flowmeter
is designed focusing on mining applications, and has higher benefits for preventing water
disasters in coal mines.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Methods for the Determinationof AdsorptionIsotherms
The many different procedures which have been devised for the determination of the amount of gas adsorbed may be
divided into two groups: (a) those which depend on the measurement of the amount of gas removed from the gas phase (i.e.
gas volumetric methods) and (b) those which involve the measurement of the uptake of the gas by the adsorbent (e.g. direct
determination of increase in mass by gravimetric methods). Many other properties of the adsorption system may be related
to the amount adsorbed, but since they require calibration they will not be discussed here. In practice, static or dynamic
techniques may be used to determine the amount of gas adsorbed.
In the static volumetric determination a known quantity of pure gas is usually admitted to a confined volume containing the
adsorbent, maintained at constant temperature. As adsorption takes place, the pressure in the confined volume falls until
equilibrium is established. The amount of gas adsorbed at the equilibrium pressure is given as the difference between the
amount of gas admitted and the amount of gas required to fill the space around the adsorbent, i.e. the dead space, at the
equilibrium pressure. The adsorption isotherm is usually constructed point-by-point by the admission to the adsorbent of
successive charges of gas with the aid of a volumetric dosing technique and application of the gas laws. The volume of the
dead space must, of course, be known accurately: it is obtained either by pre-calibration of the confined volume and
subtracting the volume of the adsorbent (calculated from its density), or by the admission of a gas which is adsorbed to a
negligible extent Nitrogen adsorption isotherms at the temperature of the boiling point of nitrogen at ambient atmospheric
pressure are generally determined by the volumetric method; they provide the basis for the various standard procedures
which have been proposed for the determination of surface area. Recent developments in vacuum microbalance techniques
have revived the interest in gravimetric methods for the determination of adsorption isotherms. With the aid of an
adsorption balance the change in weight of the adsorbent may be followed directly during the outgassing and adsorption
stages. Agravimetric procedure is especially convenient for measurements with vapors at temperatures not too far removed
from ambient. At both high and low temperatures, however, it becomes difficult to control and measure the exact
temperature of the adsorbent, which is particularly important in the determination of mesopore size distribution.
In principle, a 'continuous' procedure can be used to construct the isotherm under quasi-equilibrium conditions: the pure
adsorptive is admitted (or removed) at a slow and constant rate and a volumetric or gravimetric technique used to follow the
variation of the amount adsorbed with increase (or decrease) in pressure. A carrier gas technique, making use of
conventional gas chromatographic equipment, may be employed to measure the amount adsorbed provided that the
adsorption of the carrier gas is negligible. In all types of measurement involving gas flow it is essential to confirm that the
results are not affected by change in flow rate and to check the agreement with representative isotherms determined by a
static method.
