One cold January morning while my dad, brother, Wyatt, and I were completing the daily barn work, I noticed that my heifer was in her early
stages of labor. She was making low mooing sounds and trying to push out her calf. We penned her up in the labor pens so she could be by herself
and came back out to check on her throughout the day. By the time nine o'clock rolled around, we still didn't see any signs of a calf. My dad and I were
worried because she had never had a calf before and we didn't know if she would have it on her own or if we would have to assist her and pull it. The

The Farm Tour At La Luna Dairy Farm
On October 5th, 2017, the class went on a farm tour at La Luna Dairy Farm. This was my first time being on a dairy farm and learning about the
production of milk as I have never experienced anything like this. On the way to the farm, Courtney was driving and I was the navigator and at
times we thought that we were lost because we were in the middle of nowhere. After missing one of the turns and looping back, we finally made it
to the farm where the class was meeting. As soon as I open the door, the smell of manure assured me that I was in the right place. I could not get
use to smell, however, at times I would be distracted that the smell was not bothersome to me anymore. The farm owner, Jon Slutsky, and one of
his employ greeted the class and gave us a brief overview of the farm. Jon explained that when he started the business in the 1980s, they have
around 60 cows, but today they have about 1,400 cows that they milked. The breed of cows that Jon have at the farm is called Holstein and that
his calves are born on the farm with artificial insemination. There is about 28 employees that works with Jon o take care of his cows. Eleven of

cows. It was late January and all of our cows started having their calves. Every three hours the cows need checked so everyone in my family had
their turn. Now that it was my turn, I crawled out of bed and got dressed to go out into the dark of the night to see if we get to bring another baby calf
into this world. I have grown up on a farm with 9,000 pigs, 40 cows, 6 hunting dogs, and 150 acres of alfalfa which requires work that is usually
