Volunteers from Stanford and Berkeley provide services like assisting with college lists, the application process, essays, and finding scholarships. Over 6 years, the program has helped over 800 scholars, with a 98% college acceptance rate including top schools. The majority of scholars are typically first-generation Latinx or Asian/Pacific Islander students with a GPA of 2.7 or above.

Mentoring Congress
The document summarizes research on the effectiveness of youth mentoring programs. It finds that, on average, mentoring has a small but positive effect on youth outcomes such as academic performance, social skills, and emotional well-being. Programs tend to be most beneficial for youth with some personal or environmental risks, when mentors are well-trained and form close relationships with youth, and matches last at least 6 months. Mentoring promotes positive development in youth by strengthening their relationships with mentors, parents, teachers and peers which supports improvements in cognitive, identity, and social-emotional development. More research is still needed to better understand how to maximize benefits and retain effects over the long-term.

Coming Together Across Cultures: Intentional Relationship Building
Friends for Youth held a webinar on building relationships across cultures through mentoring. Mentors and mentees will meet weekly and attend monthly events. The program designers intend to use Atkinson, Morten, and Sue's Minority Identity Development Model to inform event planning and match students at similar stages of cultural identity development. The program aims to address feelings of isolation that can cause Latino/Hispanic students to leave college without graduating.
