This document describes a micro-engineered machine (MEM) that can evaluate methods for enhancing heavy oil recovery. The MEM consists of a small glass channel that holds a sand column. Experiments involve introducing glass beads and oils to the channel and measuring fluid volumes over time. The MEM has successfully mimicked both water-wet and oil-wet conditions. Future work will test enhanced oil recovery techniques like chemical additives and heat at varied flow rates using different bead materials and grain sizes.
