During the whole construction period of the power
plant
“DURING THE WHOLE CONSTRUCTION PERIOD OF THE POWER PLANT,
VARIOUS WATER QUALITIES AND QUANTITIES HAD TO BE PRODUCED.
DEGREMONT INDUSTRY, VIA ONDEO IS, ENABLED THE CLIENT TO
HAVE A VERY FLEXIBLE, MOBILE AND TAILOR MADE SOLUTION AND
TO PROGRESS AS FAST AS POSSIBLE WITH THE POWER PLANT
COMMISSIONING.”
Mr Gérald RENSON, OMOBILE Operational Manager
Our client needed during the power plant commissioning, numerous water qualities and
quantities available, even when the permanent water treatment plants were not yet operational.
OMOBILE delivered various automated, reliable and flexible mobile plants to produce water for:
hydraulic tests, chemical cleans, cooling tower evaporation tests, condensate treatment for
rapid turbine start-up, steam blow and then ongoing demineralised water production caused by
a delay in the delivery of the permanent plant. This allowed the client to save a potential 6-
month delay in the commissioning of his power plant and so start electricity production within
the scheduled timeframe.
CLIENTS
During the construction and the commissioning of a
new power plant (or new unit within the power plant),
various steps of the commissioning procedure require
different types of water with regard to quality and
quantity.
Temporary water production units are also required for
the steam blow phase, that requires far higher flow
rates than the design capacity of the permanent
demineralised water plant.
The different commissioning phases which required mobile
temporary water production were:
> Hydraulic tests
> Chemical cleans
> Filling up of the cooling water circuits and evaporation
tests
> Steam blowing
> Condensate treatment to enable rapid turbine start-up
> Ongoing demineralised water production for steam and
filtered water production, should the permanent water
treatment plants be delayed.
The solution proposed by OMOBILE consisted of
fully automated mobile water installations to
produce the required flows and quality.
OMOBILE installed a multimedia filtration unit with
chemical dosing system, reverse osmosis units and
polishing mixed beds to produce demineralised water
quality at < 0,1 µS/cm from 10 to 150 m³/h. The water
produced served for the hydraulic tests, chemical
cleanings, cooling water fill up, steam blow and steam
production.
For the condensate treatment, a microfiltration unit
and an on-site regenerable ion exchange unit was
installed to treat 60 m³/h in serial mode, to get the
highest quality of condensate and to shorten as much
as possible the time to turbine start-up.
A 500 m³/h multimedia filtration system with chemical
dosing system was installed to produce the full
required cooling water volume, due to the delay of the
permanent filtration plant.

Ability to continue the commissioning of the power plant
The solution proposed by OMOBILE allowed the client to finish the overall commissioning of the power plant
within the scheduled timeframe, even with the permanent water treatment plants delayed.
Ability to reduce the size of the permanent demineralisation plant
The start-up phase of a power plant requires demineralised water production up to 5 times more volume than
during normal operations. Using OMOBILE to produced high quality demineralised water during the start-up
phase means that the customer can design the size of its permanent demineralisation plant for normal
operations, thus reducing its CAPEX and OPEX.
Ability to reduce time to turbine start-up
The solution proposed by OMOBILE to treat the condensates allowed the client to improve the condensate
quality and to reduce time to the turbine start-up.
> Temporary water production during any renovation projects.
> Temporary water production during any maintenance activities.
> Temporary emergency water production during any kind of breakdown.
> Water production instead of a permanent plant to avoid initial capital investment.
