Who would be the audience for your media
product?
•

The audience of my music magazine would be fans, producers, artists and technical staff that like / work in the music industry / like EDM. To
accommodate for them I have different sections in my magazine. For fans I have interviews with artists and reviews of festivals. For DJ’s and
producers I have how to articles and the artists being interviewed would go into detail about how they created certain features. Then for
technical staff there is information and reviews on visual equipment, lighting, etc. As the magazine is not limited to just fans it would able to be
sold at a larger audience making for a higher circulation and profit.

•

By having such a wide target market marketing does not have to be limited meaning it will be more effective. It also means that the magazine
can achieve a much higher circulation compared to a magazine that was very specific and only covered one topic.

•

The audience could also be people that are going to be attending a EDM festival or are looking for one to attend due o the the top 100
festivals feature in my magazine.

•

Other audiences of my magazine could be label managers so that they can follow the latest trends in the industry and make sure that there
label keeps unto date with the latest trends to keep it profitable.
How did you attract / address your
audience?
•

The audience I am trying to attract is the 16 to 30 year olds, male and female. I used bright colours that are vivid and vibrant like
yellow, red, pink, etc. This would draw the attention of the reader when they first look at the magazine. This could also be used to
draw the attention of the reader to a particular part or title. I included a wide variety of content to make the magazine appeal to a
as wide a audience as possible.

•

For the front cover I used a larger font on the titles and more important parts of the text which would draw the readers attention to
these parts. This would make it easy to show a clear page structure. This means that the title is the largest font size, next the subtitle is second largest and the other article titles are the third largest. Any other text is put smaller than the 3rd font size as this
information is less important so does not need to take up as much space. For some of the words like names and key words I
changed the words to bold so that emphasis would be put on them, making them stand out. If the reader was skimming the front
cover they would know what the main articles and features in this issue are. I included words like exclusive in the title which would
draw the reader in and purchase the magazine as they could only get the content from there. By filling in the background this
makes the magazine cover more full making it seem like there is more content than there would be without the white background.

•

The masthead is at the top of the page and off centred, This makes it one of the first items that the reader will see and is clear to
see as there is no other elements near / overlapping with it. This is important as the masthead contains important information about
the magazine and brand.
•

For the contents page I used a variety of colours like blues, yellow, pink in a alternating fashion to attract the attention of the
reader. I used a larger font on the word contents in the top right as this is the title. This makes it one of the first objects the user
sees. I added quite a few images to the contents page to break up the large amount of text to make the page more visually
appealing to the reader.

•

For the double page spread I used 1 large image on the right to draw the readers attention and to show of the artist in more detail
as he is the main article in that issue. I used a large title that is pink which stands out and has the most amount of contrast
compared with the other colours on the page. This makes it clear to see to the user what is on the page. I also broke the content
down into two columns so that it seems less to the reader.
What have you learnt about technologies from
the process of constructing this product?
•

To make my music magazine I used the following programs:
•

DSLR, Safari, Photoshop, Lightroom, Blogger, Indesign

•

During the process of creating the magazine I developed my photo editing skills. For example I am now more confident and able to remove
backgrounds from image. Remove imperfects from people and objects that are in the photos using the clone tool, changing the brightness and
contrast of the photos to make sure that they have a good exposure and the image is not over saturated.

•

I also developed my picture taking skills as I know now how to frame and setup the composition of the photo to make for a good looking photo. I
was also able to explore the different settings on my camera. This has allowed me to pick the most appropriate setting for what I am taking a
photo off. This has lead to my photos that I take being of a higher standard.

•

I have also learned about the workflow of the programs and how to export and important my photos between all of the various programs and how
to get around compatibility issues.
