What have you
learned from
your audience
feedback
Primary Research
 Primary research is any type of research that you go out
and collect yourself. Examples include surveys,
interviews, observations, and ethnographic research.
 We undertook a wide range of primary research such as
focus groups as well as survey monkey. By doing this
research it has allowed us to get peoples feedback on
our music video as well as helps us plan our music video
by collecting information about our target audience.
Ben Allard
Secondary research
 Our secondary research (involves the summary, collation and/or
synthesis of existing research) consisted of many different
concepts of text, Applications such as YouTube was very
helpful when it came to looking at our target market. By
looking at the most popular music in this generation, we
understood further about who we would aim at and what song
we should choose.
 Honne, known as ‘’alternative R&B’’ gives a specific genre to
our target market of 18-35. The reason why our target market
is such a wide range is because we know that many of our
audience can relate to such an emotional song. Other factors
on the internet and social media definitely gave us a guide to
the project itself. Although the research wasn't entirely
accurate, it still gave us an estimated view on how our project
would plan out.
Greg Harris
Survey Monkey
 Our results in comparison to last year weren't as helpful, we only received a
few responses from the questionnaire. Although the responses were limited,
we could still use it to understand what our customers enjoyed and wanted
when it came to the music industry.
 Due to the fact that 80% of our results preferred R&B to other genre’s such as
Rock, Hip hop and classical music, we attempted to find a band who were
most related to our overall market research. When discovering Honne through
our teacher it was evident that this band was perfect for our project. Honne
are well known for their alternative R&B and unique style to the music genre.
We decided that it would be best to base our project around this upcoming
band for many reasons. Due to them just starting to become a well known
band in the British, American and Japanese industry we thought that we could
create a unique project related to Honne to hypothetically make them look like
a successful band.
Target Market
 We aimed at people who have experienced similar
situations to those shown within our music. From our
survey we have collected a wide range of information,
one key finding that we have taken away from our
survey is that our age demographic is between the ages
of 18 to 35 as they are the ones who can relate to our
music video the most.
 We decided that it would be best for our music video if
we had a more mature age demographic as this would
allow us to create a more dark, sad and romantic feel to
our video. We believed that this could not be done if we
had a lower age target market, also we wanted to aim
our music video at the same target market as HONNE
so we believed we had to make it for a older audience.
Focus Groups
 We used the members of our media class as our focus
group. We provided them with a questionnaire midway
through our project to acquire some form of guidance
with our product developments.
 For our CD cover and poster we asked questions such
as ‘Do you think the colour schemes provide a
professional design?’ and “Do you think the design is
suitable for Honne’s style of music?’
 We received almost entirely positive feedback from
these questions however we did receive the response
that Honne are more abstract with their images.
 We took this on board and decided to approach the
images with a more abstract style by use of subtle
inversions.
Focus Groups
Continued
 For our video we asked questions such as ‘Do you
think the video has a professional look?’ and ‘Do
you think our narrative and style fits the mood of the
song?’
 We received extremely positive feedback about our
video with our focus group saying they liked the
style and tone of the video and that it fitted the
mood of the song well.

Online Analysis
 Our online research (secondary research) consisted of facts and
figures to help us develop our project to its maximum potential.
We used the internet for our analysis mainly to see which bands
and what type of music was most successful within the British
industry. Artists such as Justin beiber, was without a doubt one of
the most appealing artist to customers throughout Britain and the
U.S. To a certain extent his music can be related to the way
Honne produced their music. Reasons such as this is why we
decided to go forth with using Honne as our media project.
 We also discovered that in newspapers e.g. ‘’The Empire’’ has
given nothing but positive feedback towards the upcoming band
Honne, Reviews of a 4 out of 5 star gave us as a group certainty
that our project would certainly appeal to the target market we are
aiming at.
Online Analysis Continued
 We looked to Honne’s actual video for
All in the Value and the comments
that they received for the style of
video. On the right shows some
comments for the video on Instagram.
 We decided that the style of their
video and ours was popular and
professional after researching current
Honne fans reactions to their videos.
Advantages and
Disadvantages to our
research
 One advantage to using survey monkey was that
we could get our questionnaire out to a wide
audience from using social network such as
Facebook and twitter .By doing this we can find out
target audience age as well as what they like to see
within a music video.
 One disadvantage that we faced within our research
stage is that our feedback was very limited and that
in some areas of our audience feedback the
information that we got was not very useful, so
therefore we decided to take action and use what
we believed should be in a music video.
Overall audience
feedback & evaluation
 Overall our audience feedback gave us some
information as to how our video should look and
whether the final product worked but part of it was
down to our own initiative as our audience feedback
lacked in some areas
 Overall I think our products reflect the feedback we
received well.
