This document discusses and analyzes the effectiveness of ancillary texts, including a magazine advertisement and CD cover, for a music video project. The student created the music video, advertisement, and CD cover for the song "Do WahDoo" aiming to incorporate typical codes and conventions of the Britpop and indie rock genres. Through textual and semiotic analysis of existing media, interviewing people, and ensuring consistency between the materials featuring the singer Naina, the student believes the ancillary texts are clearly linked to and effectively promote the music video.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is everywhere, promising self-driving cars, medical breakthroughs, and new ways of working. But how do you separate hype from reality? How can your company apply AI to solve real business problems?
Here’s what AI learnings your business should keep in mind for 2017.
Study: The Future of VR, AR and Self-Driving CarsLinkedIn
We asked LinkedIn members worldwide about their levels of interest in the latest wave of technology: whether they’re using wearables, and whether they intend to buy self-driving cars and VR headsets as they become available. We asked them too about their attitudes to technology and to the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the devices that they use. The answers were fascinating – and in many cases, surprising.
This SlideShare explores the full results of this study, including detailed market-by-market breakdowns of intention levels for each technology – and how attitudes change with age, location and seniority level. If you’re marketing a tech brand – or planning to use VR and wearables to reach a professional audience – then these are insights you won’t want to miss.
1. How effective is the combination of your main products and ancillary texts? By Stephanie Hakesley
2. Do WahDoo – The Song I chose This song is Britpop/Indie-Rock in terms of genre. There are particular codes and conventions associated with these two genres. Often there is a lot of movement in the videos, bright colours, lip syncing and dancing. These codes and conventions tend to be specific to such genres, which made it easier when storyboarding and doing my planning and research. Although many of these codes and conventions are known, I also confirmed that they are of the Britpop/Indie-Rock genre through textual and semiotic analysis’.
3. Genre Research I used both semiotic and textual analysis’ in order to clearly define the typical codes and conventions of existing media texts with similar genres. I also conducted primary research; in which I asked people what they would expect to see in a video to Do WahDoo. This also helped me with my inspiration for my video.
7. How effective were these ancillary texts? Personally I think that the three key parts to my Music Video (along with the CD Cover and Advert) are all closely linked and work effectively. Because I used Naina (the singer in the video) as the front of the marketing materials I think it effective because everyone can recognise they go together.
8. Links between the texts Obviously I have used the same person to front all three texts which I think shows a direct correlation between the three texts. I have clearly printed the song title ‘Do WahDoo’ on both marketing materials. The close up photos of Naina (main singer) on the marketing materials link to this genre particularly. Often images fronting such songs are computer generated images which link to the song, however, I used Ida Maria’s close up shot as my inspiration.
9. Looking back… I think there is an obvious and clear link between my three texts, research and planning materials and my mood board. I think that the texts are clear to the audience and all show part of what happens in the video, as Naina is the main part. The theme I chose was clearly defined through all parts of my production!
